I played a lot of LoL and some DOTA 2, and this game is very, very similar in terms of mechanics and gameplay. The view and lack of auto attack (every auto attack is actually a skill shot) is enough to totally set this game apart though.
It feels slower than LoL and easier to pick up and play as a noob. The gold difference between someone that's dominating and someone that's getting owned

It feels slower than LoL and easier to pick up and play as a noob. The gold difference between someone that's dominating and someone that's getting owned is much smaller than in LoL. It's therefore much harder to snowball, and any advantage gained in early lane is quickly caught up.
One of the hardest things to get used to is running from a battle with low health, having to turn your back on the action. With LoL obviously you can see the action even when running away. In Smite you can only see what's in front. You may turn around and run because of low health, only to have a look back and find that your team has won the battle after all.
I play this game at 2560 x 1600 max settings and it looks wonderful and it's perfectly smooth on Xfire 290x cards.
There is no chat to all in this game, only your own team. Somehow between this and the fact that you're using WASD to move, the chat in game is minimal and much less agro than LoL.
    Pros
    - Good tutorials and good learning curve
    - Looks great and is very smooth with pretty much 0 lag
    - Much much MUCH less flaming / agro / abuse than LoL and far fewer trolls
    - Less snowballing and domination from an early game advantage

    Cons
    - Doesn't quite feel as addictive as LoL
    - Hard to learn a whole new set of champions and spells
    - Not many gods available to start with just the weekly rotation, every match feels the same

Compered to other mobas such as LoL and Dota2, this game really stands out with its TPS + action style gameplay.

The only thing bothers me the most is it's very slow exp rate. I mean the currency drop for purchasing new gods is just too low.

Because 3rd person element the majority of abilities are skillshots, adding another layer of depth, but also satisfaction to the gameplay. While there is some toxicity in the community, I have found that is much less extreme than in other games of the genre (LoL mostly). As a mythology buff this game lets me play as Gods I have always though were bad-ass. I really recommend checking Smite out if you have not already, its free after all, and you will certainly enjoy yourself without having to invest a penny into it (though by the end you will probably want to). So this game, unlike most MOBAs, is more of a mixture of FPS and MMO-PVP than anything else. That's what makes it fun to me. I came from MMOs and in my ancient history, FPS games. This is by far my favorite game so far. There is very few games I come back to everyday and this is always my first choice game to play when bored. Starting by playing classic MOBA's, like LoL and Dota 2 was very frustrating. Smite is an easy to pick up game except for the fact its based off of skill shots. The third person view while using W,A,S,D is a lot more entertaining then point and click

This a nice game for a MOBA and I have not been able to really get into those types of games. I just sort of lost interest after awhile because the teaching mechanic doesn't really work well. If a PUG is really green they get stomped without knowing why and other issues that games have that are in this genre. I think Smite does a good job to try and curb these as much as possible. Try it out!

This game is pretty good. I didn't like Dota or LoL, but the 3rd person perspective makes this game really fun. I feel like I'm actually playing the game, instead just commanding a champion.

The Gods in this game are great, they have 7 different pantheons to choose from. 5 different classes that each feel really different. Although the game does have way more mages than any other class.

There are 5 game modes to choose from, and for each time you win you get extra favor to purchase more gods and skins.

And speaking gods, there are over 50 to play as right now, and more and more keep being added. You'll definitely find one that you like, my favorite is Sun Wukong. Each god has a great design and multiple skins to make them look even better.

This game is pretty good, but there are some flaws. The matchmaking isn't the greatest, as sometimes you'll face someone with a master 10 Diamond Ares, and you're a master 1 Ymir. And the wait times for some of the match's are a little long.

    Overall 9/10.

I like Smite. It´s a nice change from all the DOTA and LOL and all that. The only thing that is different is camera angle. It has a third person view instead of a top-down perspective. i´ve heard that smite "steals" some abilities from LoL but the beta of Smite started way, waaay long before LoL's beta and peak.

You need look no further my friend. With every single god you can think of (except christian Jesus, which they might add) and some of them are amazing. They have turned each god into your typical champions whilst making the creeps into "mortals". It is a brilliant idea. May I first state that the camera angle is amazing. You switch your standard top-down view for a TPS-RPG-MOBA type game feel to it.... if that makes sense. It is so refreshing to just have a cmaera that moves and looks where you want, when you want. It also makes ganking as an assassin FUN and MEANINGFUL as you can sneak up on your enemy. I main Loki and have recently bought Fenrir. Loki is the mainstreamed trickster god from norse mythology. He is brother to thor and son to Odin. Fenrir is Loki's son... but is a wolf... i dont really know how that all works but I am LOVING fenrir so far. If I want to play serious, I'll role loki and go 20-2-5... if I want to have a lot of fun whilst playing I will role Fenrir and go more 10-5-7. The items are unique and builds are fun whilst easy to comprehend. It has a detailed jungle that makes it so much fun to jungle (in fact I only Jungle) howver laning is still fun. Having played many a MOBA, Smite is more than a step in the right direction. I love the third person view over the top down as most MOBA's do. The only complaint is that you do not get master in co-op. You get 3 mastery in normal (pvp) but I think you should get at least 1 mastery in co-op. Do not force people to pvp or you lose players.

Smite is a refreshing change of pace in the MOBA genre with mythology from various cultures creating the rather broad lore around the game and heroes (gods). The 3rd person perspective is well-done and creates interesting tactical situations where 'sneaking up' on someone is more possible than traditional MOBA's where the player has a 360-degree view around their character. Smite also has abilities that involve gods flying up into the air way above the combat and shooting/raining down projectiles. This was a lot of fun. The game is polished, game play skill-based (lots of skill shots), graphics are sharp, sound is good, and the interface in-game and out are well-done. The game modes already provided are interesting and will only get better. I have not played the game enough to comment on the balance of the gods, but this should only improve over time if there is any lack currently. With 50+ gods (and they all seem fun to play in different ways) and more on the way, this game will only get better. From someone who has played a substantial amount of Heroes of Newerth, Dota 1, and Dota 2, I give this a very strong recommendation! I have a feeling I will be playing and enjoying it for years if the developer stays true to the vision. Expand

Before playing smite, I didn't realize how much better first person is compared to overhead/top-down type view. First person allows you a faster play style and also more strategy (maneuvering behind others). I wonder if other mobas will try to create a first person view for their games.

My new favorite moba and well worth a try.

Once again, another great MOBA comes along that is simply so unique that it makes me love the genre again.

The good thing about SMITE in my opinion, is that it feels more like an action game than a pure MOBA, and in my opinion, that's a great thing because I was really getting tired of the constant samey MOBA experiences. Controlling your hero feels more like you are actually in control, not just giving commands to a hero. Every auto-attack and skill use feels good, because you are in control.

The game features *now* great graphics, fluid movement, good interface and a huge variety of items and active skills to customize your hero. The game barely had any of those things 2-3 years ago, but Hi-Rez put their head to it and made the game so much more than what it was. It's really great.

The VGS (voice guided system) is pure gold. Probably one of the best features that I have seen in any MOBA, ever. It allows for quick communication with your team without hindering the gameplay at all. All the commands are appropriately labelled and you can learn the whole system quickly. This increases the whole cooperation with your team, without voice chat in the game. You can even customize the V commands with a voice pack of your choice by your favourite gods.

Great thing about this game, is that it's based on mythology, and all the gods you know and love are back in and fighting with each other.

Before, the UI, matchmaking and graphics were my main gripes with this game, but Hi-Rez is making constant HUGE updates with revamped graphics, characters , maps, game modes , skins, etc.

My main two gripes with this game are kind of minor, but they are there: HORRIBLE voice acting except for few characters like Tyr, and silly auto attack animations which seem be needlessly spectacular (like, does my character really need to do a 720 degrees backflip every other auto attack? Hi-Rez is getting better, but some AAA are still silly).

SMITE also has a great business model, a step up from LoL. You can not only buy characters with in-game currency and real currency, but you can also rent gods and pay a lifetime fee of £20 and get every god + every future god in the game.

Overall, SMITE is a great f2p package and everybody who loves MOBA games AND action games should check it out, it's really fun.

The game play is where this game really shines, its mechanics are so simple yet so good and are implemented very well through out all game modes. The God selection is huge and is still growing, there are Gods for all types of people to play meaning no one is left out. In comparison to LoL ,which I played for a few days previous to playing Smite, I found myself getting bored of the game and sick of the player base due to their toxic and very unfriendly attitude towards new players. Should you play this game? Yes! Will you enjoy it if you like the MOBA genre? Very much so! Expand

The game is amazing fun, though it has it's issues with the ban system and the deserter system. As well as unoriginal skills.

So pretty much it's one of the most enjoyable games ever, and pretty much everyone could like it, but if you have a bad internet or are just plain unlucky, you won't be able to play much.

Mechanically, this game is sound. I'm not a MOBA fan, but I loved the action SMITE brings to the table. It's so funny how a different perspective can lead to such a different result, but it's true here. If this game were it's own, and not just a MOBA, but more like UT, it'd still be kick ass.

The Gods are really cool. Though they have made some Gods look more LoL-like (Kali, He-Bo, New Ao), overall, they have done a great job to actually acknowledge the pantheons they come from. My favorite is Neith, followed by Bastet, then Bacchus. Though I may only play certain Gods, I love all of them. There characters stick out, their VP's are top-notch, and the costumes that keep coming only further the personalities of the Gods (and, in turn, the players).

I may return to it at some point. I've played for a loooonnnngggg time and have seen SMITE undergo many many changes. Every step Hi-Rez has made has been the right step towards making an engaging MOBA worthy of e-sports fame (and I'm being generous here, as I find e-sports to be "What, you can't catch a football?")

All in all, this is a solid game. If you have a 2-4 friends that like this type of stuff, I'd say bring the malong if you haven't already. SMITE is doing it's best to stand out among the many, monotonous MOBA's out there.

    Gameplay
Probably the most important thing of a MOBA, besides good looking/catchy gods.
Movement and combat feel natural, as does skill placement.
Sometimes it can be very hard to land a certain skill or spell, but when you do... It feels just AWESOME!

I also quite like the fact that you move slower when go sideways or backward, this adds more depth to the game, because you actually have to think how you move your character!

If we talk about items, they are well balanced and versatile, yet it's simple to understand what they do.
The only thing that's nagging me is: you CAN't sell 'active' items, which instantly makes no-one use them before late game.

    What about the game modes?
Some are really cool, others suck. I think it's good that they have these different game modes, eventually it's your choice what you like to play!

    Graphics
Lets be honest: most gods look really, really cool! As do there skills/spells and attack animations.
But of course there are some gods that look really lame.

Map wise they made it come to life, it looks like a battleground worthy of the gods.
But again, some maps are cool others are not. It depends on your preference.

    Conclusion
Overall this game is fun to play and has an OK community, especially when considering this game is a MOBA. It has a nice skill cap with many different gods, some easy, others hard to master.
The different game modes are fun to play, I personally like to switch them up once in a while.

Gods are pretty balanced, but can easily get out of control when running away with kills early on.
They look good, feel good as do their skills/spells.

The overall control over your god feels a lot better than in a standard MOBA!

    This game deserves a 8/10.

    4. Let's say you make account today. You get 5 gods for free that are unlocked forever and 5 gods that are rotation. Then you friend makes account later and he gets different 5 gods and 5 gods that are rotation. (I don't know how often those new account god rotation takes to change)

I am terrible at MOBA games, but at least Smite looks good and feels good. I have tried many MOBA games including DOTA2 and League of Legends. Latter I played some time, but then I found Smite and that was the end of LoL for me. :D

Finally the free to play model is really good, with no necessity for high grinding. There are no runes or masteries so that there is no Pay2Win. It's fun and free, theres no talents, runes or anything you need to pay for to enjoy or compete at high levels, just cosmetics if you want to look different.

Not only does it take well over 10 minutes to find a game because someone is leaving the lobby or not locking in, but you face harassment after actually getting into a game. If you are good, you have no life and you are a hacker.... but if you play a bad game you suck you need to delete your account and go kill yourself. No matter how much you get harassed, and even if you report someone, it still stays the same. The person never gets a penalty in any way, and they continue to harass you even if you play a good game with them. It goes well beyond the game as well, even after the game has ended they private message you to continue being crappy. This game would be perfect if we could actually block someone so that I can never read their raging messages. I've tried blocking them though it still pairs them in a game with me, and I can still read messages in game. The only thing it solves is private messages. This game actually has made me delete it so many times just because of people being such ass faces about every little thing. All in all I like how this game plays, but if you can find a way to weed out the little **** faces that ruin the whole experience it would be perfect. I've had less ****ing from players on call of duty and I thought that game was bad. On this game we have guys with no life that just sit here and play 24/7 to complain to other people. Then they always seem to get stuck on MY team. Even if we are winning and he/she is the only one on the team dying at all they still freak out and tell the whole team they suck etc. This game should come with free anger management for those that obviously well beyond need it and a zanax so we can put up with their crap. If you can get past all the B.S from the community online, then by all means play this game. It is quite good, provided you grow up before you download it because all the little children playing this game are making it unpleasant for us that actually enjoy games for FUN. It's not the end of the world if you lost, and if it is then kindly ask your mother to wipe your butt and give you a new diaper before you log back in. I give it a 8/10 just because the game was great, and yet I still would rather eat glass than play it. Expand

This gives it a different, yet similar play style as DOTA 2 and League of Legends, but the game play is faster, and you have to aim your attacks, making the learning curve slightly steeper than other games in the genre. The third-person aspect of the game allows for many flanks and ganks, putting you directly into the battle at all times. The playable characters are Gods from multiple different pantheons, which currently consist of Greek, Norse, Roman, Egyptian, Chinese, Hindu, and Mayan with hopefully more to come. There are currently 70 Gods overall and each player starts with five free Gods: Neith, Thor, Guan Yu, Ra, and Ymir. The rest of the Gods can be purchased using in-game currency that is earned by simply playing the game, or they can be purchased with gems that cost real currency. The game also offers the Ultimate God Pack which contains every God currently out, and all Gods that come out in future updates. The pack only costs $30 US, so it is very worth the cost.

There are five different classes that each God is under based on their abilities; these classes are: Mage, Assassin, Warrior, Guardian, and Hunter. Mages have magical based attacks, and generally are ranged, they also generally have low health, and high damage/support. Hunters have physical based attacks, and are almost always ranged, they generally have low health, and are your Attack Damage Carry, or ADC for short. Warriors have physical based attacks, and are melee, they generally have medium to high health, but have medium to low damage. Assassins have physical based attacks, and are melee, they have very low health, but high damage. Guardians have magical based attacks, some are ranged, and some are melee, they have very high health, and generally low damage.

Smite consists of six game modes: Conquest, Joust, Arena, Assault, Siege, and the Match of the Day, or MotD for short. Conquest is your normal 5v5 MOBA style map, consisting of a jungle, three lanes, each with two towers per team, and a phoenix per team. The objective is to destroy the opponent’s Titan which is in the enemy base. Joust is a 3v3 map, consisting of a jungle, one tower per team, and one phoenix per team, the objective is to destroy the opponent’s Titan. Arena is a 5v5 team death match map. The goal is to deplete the opponent’s tickets, which start at 500; five tickets are taken off for every player kill, one ticket is taken off if your team gets the final hit on an enemy minion (Note that if your minions kill an enemy minion, no points are deducted), one point is taken off if one of your minions enter the enemy portal, and 15 points are taken off if a siege minion enters the enemy portal. Assault is a 5v5 map, consisting of one lane, no jungle, two towers per team, one phoenix per team, and you cannot recall, or walk back onto the fountain, and the objective is to destroy the enemy titan. God selection is random. Siege is a 4v4 map, consisting of two lanes and a middle jungle. Each lane has two towers per team, and a phoenix each per team, the objective is to destroy the enemy titan. The MotD is random, and changes daily, so be sure to check in every day to see what it is.

The item system is similar to that of other games in the genre, consisting of Consumables, Actives, and Passives. For the first few games of Smite, play with the Auto-Buy and Auto-Level option on, the game will then make your God a basic item build. Once you are use to the God, you can go into the God Builder section, and create an item build, and ability build, so while Auto-Buy is on, it will by the items you preset. Sometimes you’ll need to adapt your build based on the enemy team, so don’t be shy to turn off Auto-Buy in the middle of a game to change your build to fit the scenario.

There are no auto attacks and all skill (unless they are buffs) need to be aimed which means you have to play much closer attention to what you are doing. Smite uses Gods form different mythologies as there "Hero's" and it has meant that I have learnt more about ancient cultures and their beliefs. It has a few game modes which are all unique. It has the normal MOBA game mode with the 3 lanes and the jungles but it also has an arena where you just need to kill the enemy and the Match of the day changes things within each game mode and it adds variety to what the game has to offer. Most of the community is good but there are some very toxic players. There are balancing issues and some items or gods are much more overpowered than others. You can customize your account with new icons, music themes, card borders, stands and god skins but there is so much that it can fell overwhelming and it can take awhile to gather gems (which is what you use to buy most of the stuff). Favor is the currency you get for playing the game but the stuff you can buy with it is limited. It also has some connection problems but if you have decent WiFi then you should be OK.

Probably the best MOBA I have ever played. The community isn't too bad for being a MOBA and you can buy all the characters for $30.

Also best of all... Voice commands. One of the best ways of communicating in a moba I have ever seen.

The second MOBA I play after HoTS and I must say that SMITE It's amazing, combining all the gods of our mythology with a fantastic third person camera.

Smite is good moba, maps are balanced, graphics are good, game play and system is ok, but they need balanced the game obviously like others mobas each character has a counter pick, but i really think the gods are unbalanced certain picks has a ridiculous chance to win against

Some people will find it a as plus but for me it is a bit more negative note is that it is a bit more forgiving then my other favourite, DOTA 2, but it is not something that changes my general impression.
Graphic may not appear insane but it is definitely currently the pretties of all big MOBA games, aesthetics are nice and interface is very clear.
The nicest thing about Smite for me is that players seem a bit less salty then any other game of this type.
I am very keen to invite you to play Smite.

Matches are very competitive and there are several different game modes such as arena a 5v5 match were you all just attack each other and also try to get minions from one side to the next or something like joust which is a 3v3 with objectives that need to be achieved using team work and skill. Smite is a game that focuses on player skill most moves are skill shots and I love that. All that and the game is free!!! well you get a few gods that you get to play for free and if you want to unlock others you can do so with in game currency but if you want certain skins or voice packs then you have to pay. Definitely a game worth trying you have nothing to lose! Expand

Just thinking about those long summer nights playing season 4 all night with my friends brings me very nostalgic/happy emotions. That being said, the game still has major problems that it has had for a long time. Smite is known for its terrible matchmaking which basically makes it unable to compete along side other major MOBAs like LoL or Dota 2. Hi-Rez (game developers) keep releasing new gods and content that keep breaking the game instead of trying to balance what they already have. This are the 2 main problems with Smite which IMO makes it not suitable for a 9 or 10 rating, though, the matchmaking system is totally being remade and Hi-Rez is slowly winning back the community's trust, we'll see how the game improves but as of right now, 8/10 for me. Every Gas has it's own unique ability thus giving you a chance to make your own tactics and attack on several different ways.

In the end of 2018 we have clearly saw a change in designers and the team that is creating the content for the game. First the arenas and the playgrounds that they implemented are very weird and ugly.
Maybe the biggest problem (at the current time in January 2019.) is their launcher Everything worked fine for years and then in late 2018. Hi-Rez created a new launcher that makes you update the game very time you start the game. For users with fast connection, it will take up to 5 or 10 minutes to update every time in order to play. For other, it will take a lot longer.
If you plan to play this game, I highly recommend it. But maybe it would be better to play it via Steam as you won't have any problems with updates. Only hope stays that the Smite team and Hi-Rez will leave the path that leads to poor graphics and really weird arena's and playgrounds and continue with the path that lead the game to be one of the best MOB games available.

While I'm not always in the mood to play Smite, it has a lot of staying power and is fresh enough to keep coming back to for weeks or months at a time. The 3rd person pov is also a nice touch, and the theme is obviously terrific.

Artstyle of the gods is probably my favorite part.
Mythology instead of "made up" characters is pretty cool!

A different kind of MOBA, but not for everyone. Unfortunately, I don't see myself playing this game too often; it's not my type of MOBA. Nonetheless, it's undeniably impressive. I genuinely wished I could get into this game, and I did try, but it just doesn't resonate with me.

There's a chance that this game might be your cup of tea. If you're not into games like DOTA, LoL, or HotS,

Third god perspective freshens up the MOBA genre but its potential was not fully utilized (e.g. you can jump, but there’s nowhere to jump to). Smite makes up for that with varied game modes and accessibility to inexperienced or casual players. [06/2014, p.58]

The product of Hi Rez Studios is well made, and offers different feelings from those of its competitors, thanks to the different camera angle and a fast paced gameplay.
