Volition missed the mark in every aspect possible with this game, insulted their stablished fanbase to appease to a potential new fanbase that didn't even like the game either, this could be a lethal hit for the studio since their reputation is extremely tarnished with their prior fanbase and everyone would think twice to support them in the future even if they correct their path an apologize for insulting their fans.

This is somewhat average game. It is neither terrible nor unplayable, despite some very nasty bugs. But there is nothing to write home about either. This game definitely lacks a soul. You cannot make a good black humor game and be afraid to offend anyone - it is like trying to make an omelet without breaking any eggs.
It can be played for a change for a few evenings and then forgotten

For players who never played Saints Rows game before it would be 5/10 average game which does not deserve any hype, but does not deserve much hate either.
For players like me who did played all previous Saints Rows and thus unable to avoid comparison with predecessor - that is 4/10 and after playing for several hours I just want to go back playing previous games again.
In a few months after some polishing and removal of critical bugs this game can get +1 to it's final score from me, but that is all.

the graphics are so old gen they sacrifice everything to be able to release it on old gen consoles instead of making two different versions of the game for old and new gen consoles and PC, the pop in and out is the worst thing about this game cars comes out of thin air or disappear in thin air even with my graphic setting set to ultra.
the story isn't enjoyable and it's boring as hell between the bad dialogue to the awful voice acting to the sound bugs.
the side hassles kind of ok nothing mind blowing it's just mindless fun sometimes.
the combat is so bad which don't work correctly most of the time, the guns feel cheap as hell and the NPC are bullet sponges even without the armor.
the city has nothing to memorize it by and not much going on you might see a cop has and NPC car stopped and that's all so nothing to get your attention.
driving feels like you're driving a balloon the cars fly like no gravity the only enjoyable thing is side slam cars with the new system they implemented.
for the performance the game runs so good because it's not the graphics are last gen i had no crashed no frame drop nothing at all.
for the last part bugs and more bugs and a lot more bugs everything is buggy i had a bug where the main character was driving a bike while standing another were i was stuck under the map and wasn't reloading didn't fix it another one where NPC disappear from the Custance and another with the phone app with a blank background and can't do anything not even the ability to close it and another where enemies spawn outside mission boundaries and so many more that i need a 5 page assignment to write them down.
i gave the game a 4 out of 10 because of the performance and the side hassles plus the combat when it works.
just wait for a big sale then get the game otherwise it's not worth the price tag they are asking for.
BTW i haven't finished all of the main story because i couldn't get myself to do it.

-2 a wide variety of gameplay bugs, starting with everything related to physics. The gravity in this game is on the level of Goat simulator, and while everything from trees to fences will crumble to pieces and cars explode like fireworks from any given vehicle crashing into it, there is always that one little rock that is barely visible and will still stop you in your tracks. Aiming, just like most of the controls, is bothersome, which in a game that pretty much has shooting as the central game mechanic is unforgivable. Stairs can become true obstacles, just like your

-2 AI companions that tend to pile up right behind you and won't budge or move. The NPCs are true Zoomers, starting with the AI that has also been born in the late last century. Given the amount of babysitting that you have to do because they storm into danger and get themselves killed, watching them do so would be satisfying, but also ends the mission. It's the same with them riding cars or phasing out and not moving anymore. They have a lot to say, but unfortunately only three lines to chose from, and they say it with

-1 the worst audio I've heard in a while. While the voiceovers aren't terrible, it always sounds like someone is speaking into a mic and directly next to you. Volition always had trouble with vehicle sound for some reason, but even the guns pop peas and popcorn. Which is fitting in my favorite section, which would be

+2 the LARPing. I wouldn't be caught larping in real life if you paid me, but all the weaknesses of the game suddenly make sense; for example the finishers that never connect to whoever you are handling - in LARP they are not supposed to. And of course the guns sound like someone shooting you with thumbtacks. And of course the vehicles can't take any damage, because you can't drive cars into other cars in real life, DUH. The cringe humor and way too nice disposition of everyone suddenly makes sense; these people wouldn't commit genocide on a daily basis, but they would certainly *pretend* to do it while roleplaying. A part of me really wonders if Volition wasn't onto something when they created that part of the game, and it scratched an itch I've had since Rockstar's "Bully" - all the sandbox madness of a GTA game, but ... nobody dies. I like that. Of course you will have a 4-digit-deathcount a few hours in, except for...

-1 the forced stealth section, are you f*ing kidding me. It's like you made a list of things that people really hate and then decided on a dare to bring it all back. That's where I quit, by the way.

-1 the open world is every bit as dead as you have heard, and looks more like a first draft overall.

+1 unlike everyone else I did at least enjoy the "tourist" action where I have a good look at landmarks while a narrator explains the history of a place to me, because it's one of the few instances where the city gets some character. Also, it's one of the few moments where I don't leave a trail of corpses and trashed properties, which wouldn't be a problem if

    - 2 the writing wasn't that terrible. This new old new Saints Row takes itself way to serious and ends up mixing the comedy of "Friends" with mass murder, and if you are thinking right now that this would make sense because if you had to live with these people no one would survive... no. It completely lost that particular sense for irony that made the old games so great.

+1 for the extended character creator that might be even better than the one in Saints Row 2. There are of course limitations, and shopping for clothes has become one of the thousand collectathons on the map without any real highlights, but it sticks out as something that feels finished.

Which may be the overall problem. I hope they don't just throw this away and give up on it. Volition already knew how to make a great Saints Row game. With a little time they might remember and patch it back in. Potential buyers should wait until they do.

The aiming in this game is simply atrocious, you are better off just letting your crosshair on the middle of the screen and moving your character around to line up the shots.
You cant choose what to turn off from the hud, its either everything on or everything off even the crosshairs.
Bugs, bugs, bugs, you cant wear what you want because it bugs out and makes you wear whatever. The map

I got this game for free thanks to AMD. I wouldn't spend more than 20 euro for it, at least at the moment.

Firstly because the game has a lot of bugs, i.e. you get undressed and completely unequipped after restarting it sometimes. Or it happens you get messed up by the really weird arcade like physics and fly around like a football just because someone hit you with a melee weapon.

Secondly the game feels like an outdated game from around 2015 even if you ignore the fact that it is really bugged. That is because the voice acting and animations are cheap, the plot is weak and overall the world feels dead. It's basically a polished arcade game with a bad story and an open world with unused potential, just to justify the price tag. I've read the story is around 15 hours, although I won't make it that far - too boring game play, frustrating bugs and repetitive side activities.

But there are some good things, that may bring some people to like this game, i.e. the nice tuning options near GTA standards, the good character editor with the option to share characters or even the pretty nice graphics with the setting in Mexico. I mean this game can be fun for a lot of people but it doesn't feel like a AAA title from 2022.

The game feels outdated, and I'm not just talking about the graphics. Boring characters, story and missions. The city is lifeless (saints row 3&4 definitely had more effort put in their cities). I guess it can be fun if you like brainless open world games but if you want something different and good this is not it.

BLAND. I've played the last 2 SR games several times through. This one has irritating / vapid teammates and all the super crazy fun stuff is gone. They could have written in interesting gangs like the Sons of Samedi, or just anything. Most missions were so on the rails, they should've been animations. The glitches didn't end the game for me, but they are there through every mission.

TLDR: a tremendous disappointment it wants to be saints row but gives a fortnite type of vibe in terms of the audience that should play it, they made it a little more friendly feels like, SR3 felt like they actually targeted an actual mature player base but here its like they aim for idk 10-16-17 yr olds. A great example is Borderlands where they added streaming and social media into the story like it is not their place in these types of video games. The game is just BLAND

Idk why this comparison came to mind SR3 feels like an actual action movie with jokes but when i think of the reboot i outright think of it as being Toys Story from Disney xD

I believe it can 100%be enjoyed by some people and 100% hated by others however i am in the middle cant give it a 6 either because we waited too damn long just to get this one of the games ever made but i do say TRY IT see if you like the game

Then you have to wait some seconds for the game to continue normally, it is ridiculous.... This is no pop in, it is poop in... Jesus... The story doesn't make much sense in the beginning, but some dialogues are ok, it is SR, nobody is expecting a masterpiece on this part yk, what everybody likes of SR is the action, but what you liked on SR3, the crazy action, the op guns when they are fully leveled, they took out or dumbed down in this one... Why... Why let devs who looks like they didn't like SR or never even played a game before to make a SR game... Then aside from all this we have the weapon challenge tracking that every sane person would expect to be easily tracked in some menu but in this game you actually have to travel to a gunshop just to see the progress of the weapon leveling, it is like those old super nintendo games that at that time the devs hadn't thought on such obvious feature yet but, hey, it was the beginning of game developing, but to do that on a 2022 game, it just looks like the devs of this game never played a game to not know that! How Deep Silver chose this team? Everything looks very amateur, char creation is worst than SR3, if you turn on Nvdia's RT the game looks very glitchy, if you turn it off the game looks just like SR3 but it is much, MUCH heavier, how can they made a game this heavy looks like the super optimized SR3 is a mystery... Game looks ugly compared to literally everything else coming before AND after it. Every mechanic you find is just better in other games, we're talking Just Cause 2.
Mechanically speaking it's a very subtle improvement from SRTT. Melee though, is flawed.

I can't understand why, and yeah, dismiss any review as a bigoted one, but they went with characters only "relatable" to the 0.1% of liberal college students.
I can't understand FOR THE LIFE OF ME why the characters are so massively unappealing but EVERYONE who has played all the Saints Row games recently knows this might as well had been a spin-off, why they went with these lunatics instead of gangstas is beyond anyone's guess.

So yeah. Call me an offended right winger but I'd rather play SR2 a dozen times than this mess. It's buggy, a dissapointed and a betrayal of an actual legendary saga, specially when they could have EASILY dethroned GTA if they had made it any appealing and improved anything instead of bugging everything that wasn't bugged.

As an Embracer Group shareholder I am beyond dissapointed and I expect them, from now on, to do REAL QA and not just "yeah ship this, it's 'good enough'" because this game was anything except even "Good enough".

I will admit there are some fun parts in this game and the graphics are pretty decent, but the fun wears off quickly and you're left with a boring and repetitive game. Instead of a brand new game, it feels like some sort of SR3 DLC or what SR4 should’ve been instead of that president, alien and superhero abomination that was put out. If this was released in 2013 It maybe would’ve been exciting, but in 2022 it's a mediocre game with mediocre voice acting, cringe dialog, mediocre characters, boring and repetitive combat, a plethora of bugs (many game breaking ones) and the same animations and engine Volition has been using for over 10 years. It's also been very clear since the reveal trailer that this game is made for younger kids of this generation, it's obvious Volition and Deep Silver don't care about old SR fans. They would rather pander to kids who have never played a Saints Row game in their life than the actual long time fans. Volition had a great opportunity here to capitalize on the open world, third person shooter market with the absence of Rockstar over the past 9 years, but they would rather dumb down their games so that 13 year olds who enjoy Fortnite can hop on this game and have fun. We told them from the start, "this is not what we want" "this looks terrible" "bring back the old saints" and all they could do is call us haters, well as it turns out the fans and consumers of the product were right yet again. I hope that Volition & Deep Silver will one day realize that they messed up bad with this game and the 3 before it just because they outright refuse to listen to their fans. I would like to see them publicly apologize for this poor excuse of a "Saints Row" game, but that will never happen, they will never admit that they were wrong, even if this was the final nail in the coffin for their already downward spiraling company. This is not Saints Row it only has the name because they knew it would sell decent numbers and make them some money. If you are a true fan of Saints Row, save your money. Do not buy this game. Expand
