Risk of Rain 2 stands tall among the best roguelites ever made, evoking memories of Spelunky and The Binding of Isaac

The core loop of kill enemies, buy random items, find and kill the boss, proceed to the next stage and repeat was done excellently and with the (at the moment) 10 completely different characters with multiple alternative attacks, the many stages, enemies and of course items you won't get bored so easily.
Unlockable artifacts can spice up your game like team damage, for you and the enemies double the enemies or choosing what items you get you to play additional hours, even more if you can play with friends.

And if all of that is not enough for you there are dozens upon dozens of fan made mods on thunderstore. There are all kinds of different mods, from entire new characters like the bandit from the first game, goku from dragonball or different LoL characters to completely new items, difficulties etc. I advise to install a mod manager to easily choose whit which mods to play as the moving and deleting the files in the game files can and will become tedious. The best/easiest to operate is (at the moment of writing this) r2modman.

While at times empty, Hopoo Games' faith in the player's dedication is admirable, and the cooperative gameplay works well for it's template. The transition from Risk of Rain I to 3D graphics is a head scratcher at first, but it ends up working well enough to warrant a sequel

Most of the people that gave this game a score between 0 and 6 either have played less than 10 mins or just have the attention span of a toddler. This game shows that you don`t need a huge team to achieve one of the best indie titles in recent memory.

This game is really good. Every character is unique in how they play and results can be achieved when playing as any of them. The unlocks will keep you playing while the difficulty continues to be challenging without ever becoming too difficult. The primary game play loop is both satisfying and fun to play, and I could easily recommend this game to anyone.

Gorgeous art, amazing soundtrack, astonishing replayability, unique aesthetic - this game has everything I want in a game and more. It's my favourite game. There are no microtransactions whatsoever, although currently they're planning on making some DLC to fund continued development which I'm really excited for! I can't recommend this game enough. I never played the original and doubted I could enjoy RoR2 because it just isn't my style of game.

I can easily set out to play for an hour and end up playing two. I even like the art style even though it seemed odd and over-saturated to me when I watched re-plays. It's perfect, and the soundtrack is amazing.

People call it a roguelite because it is just impossible to put this game into any regular category. Risk of Rain 2 is like very few other games, which is why it feels so fresh.

Buy this game if you think you might like it. Buy this game for your friends and support the devs so they keep making more great games like this.

I've got 600 hours clocked on this game. Which, on it's own, says a lot.

If you're into going from peasant to literal GOD within a few minutes, with a nice splash of good old RNG along the way, destroying thousands of enemies at a time, with or without friends, for HOURS on end, this might just be the perfect game for you.

600 hours. Let that sink in.

Hundreds of hours of pure action-oriented fun! This game has a lot to offer, a lot to discover and a addictive gameplay that gets better every run. You can play alone and online, with friends and random people (and you can pick good partners). Recommended to everyone that loves third person shooters and rogue-lites.

There’s hundreds of hours of fun to be had in RoR2, if you approach it with the right mindset and sometimes a friend or two. It’s not for everyone, but I found it a lot more forgiving than e.g. Dark Souls, and it’s got a Chris Christodoulou soundtrack to boot, so your ears will enjoy themselves even when you reach your inevitable and abrupt demise.

Es un buen juego si tiene mucho tiempo libre y te gustan los desafíos, jugarlo con amigos te garantizara mas diversión, pero jugarlo solo no esta para nada mal. Un juego que vale completamente la pena

Fun rogue-lite with a nice challenge to it even though the last boss promotes tacking less good items atm this will change hopefully in the better.
so the only real critic I would have with the type of game its trying to be is that it can get a bit stale at some point (imo)

A good basis for an early access game...
    Its definitly not finished.
Mostly empty maps. Stat check items. Long, painful runs that can and will stretch for hours. Multiplayer is very unbalanced. Either one player gets everything and just rolls or everyone gets a little and get crushed. No middle ground. Characters are a blast to play, each and every one of them is very unique.

Definitly the highlight of the game.
But they're just dropped in a map with same-y enemies and uninteresting items that do not change how they behave in a fight.
It just feels like a demo showcasing character designs.

    Mediocre roguelike at best.

Horrible game, no idea why people like it.
    Super Grindy and repetitive.
the worst part is when you try to go online.
you can join any game but you can't really play. all you can do Is spectate.
some matches take hours, I am mean many hours.
so all you do for let's say 3-4 hours is watch someone play without an ability to spawn.
    Waste of money.

The issue isn't that things get repetitive in less than 10 minutes and only get worse from there. The issue is that things were never fun in the first place. RoR2 has been my least-fun gaming experience in recent memory.

It turns out that "Visual Clutter: The Game" really doesn't work in 3D. Maybe it was possible to make a good sequel to Risk of Rain in 3D, but my goodness this isn't it. It's just a pity that Hopoo didn't learn anything from the example of Trine 3.

I loved the original Risk of Rain and really, really wanted to like the sequel. Unfortunately, the switch from 2D to 3D did no favors. The game looks generic and plays poorly. I didn't play until the full release and now that it's fully released I'm sad to say that it plays like a day 1 early access game. It's just a big, sloppy, janky mess of stuff that doesn't work together. This gameI loved the original Risk of Rain and really, really wanted to like the sequel. Again, huge fan of the original (and Deadbolt) but for me, this is a big swing and a bigger miss. Expand

Very fun and addicting experiance if you get over the inital learning curve and massive dificulting spikes.. The entire game is built around RNG and progression is time gated.. So if you stick with the game long enough to beat it, its not cause your skilled, its because the game allowed the right items to roll and didnt implement 1 hit insta kills.

    Fun game with some issues.
    + Fun combat
    + Fun upgrades
    + Fun secrets
    - Maps are pretty much the same every time
    - The difficulty is really bad and you get one shot way too often
    - Awful last boss and stage.

A shooter with a roguelike’s soul, Risk of Rain 2 is pretty much devoid of any deeper meaning, but at the same time perfectly executed and brilliant in its simplicity. [11/2020, p.33]

Risk of Rain 2 does a great job at creating an engaging world full of frantic moments, although sometimes its procedural features get in the way.

We have finally lived through the full release of Risk of Rain 2. With the full release comes a new character, who is excellent, and a true final level, final boss, and an ending. On top of that, we get even more excellent music from Chris Christodoulou. It cements Risk of Rain 2 as one of the best roguelikes of all time, and certainly one of the best co-op roguelikes too. There are a couple of things I was hoping to see with the full release, like more skills for the other survivors, but I’m sure they’ll arrive somewhere down the line. As it stands, if you’ve not played Risk of Rain 2, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
