Risk of Rain 2 is a third person shooter roguelike full of items to unlock and enemies to kill. However it is a little short of breath.

Risk of Rain 2’s early access hooked me with its fluid 3D action and distinct classes, and held my attention long after I’d seen everything it had to offer with its berserk roguelike progression, and the ability to squad up with friends. It’s networking woes could use some TLC, but that’s the only bad news. What’s here now is polished, fun, and immensely replayable, and what’s on the horizon leads me to believe I’ll be playing Risk of Rain 2 for a very long time to come. [Early Access Review Score = 90]
  2. It’s such a shame. Risk Of Rain 2 is delightfully weird, with an enviably eclectic menagerie of beasties. Runs that go well can branch off in wildly different directions, where items twist character abilities into novel new uses. But the sad truth is that I can’t click with any of the early characters, and the path to unlocking the good ones is long and paved with too-quick deaths. Stick your neck out if you want to – I’m headed indoors.

The core loop of kill enemies, buy random items, find and kill the boss, proceed to the next stage and repeat was done excellently and with the (at the moment) 10 completely different characters with multiple alternative attacks, the many stages, enemies and of course items you won't get bored so easily.
Unlockable artifacts can spice up your game like team damage, for you and the enemies double the enemies or choosing what items you get you to play additional hours, even more if you can play with friends.

And if all of that is not enough for you there are dozens upon dozens of fan made mods on thunderstore. There are all kinds of different mods, from entire new characters like the bandit from the first game, goku from dragonball or different LoL characters to completely new items, difficulties etc. I advise to install a mod manager to easily choose whit which mods to play as the moving and deleting the files in the game files can and will become tedious. The best/easiest to operate is (at the moment of writing this) r2modman.

For what it is, it's just about perfect, the most videogame of all videogames. An exercise in how RNGesus can elevate your humble survivor from weak obscurity to near godlike power. A world of stylized aesthetic full of secrets and a smooth soundtrack that just absolutely slaps. But there's no time to stop and smell the roses, the game gets harder every minute, so you must balance your greed with speed. Unlock a cast of 9 survivors that are all their own unique gameplay style. Discover and earn Artifacts that change how the whole game plays. And once you learn the ropes, drop down to the planet with a few friends so you can all have YASD together.

Risk of Rain 2 stands tall among the best roguelites ever made, evoking memories of Spelunky and The Binding of Isaac
