Horrible game, no idea why people like it.
    Super Grindy and repetitive.
the worst part is when you try to go online.
you can join any game but you can't really play. all you can do Is spectate.
some matches take hours, I am mean many hours.
so all you do for let's say 3-4 hours is watch someone play without an ability to spawn.
    Waste of money.

The issue isn't that things get repetitive in less than 10 minutes and only get worse from there. The issue is that things were never fun in the first place. RoR2 has been my least-fun gaming experience in recent memory.

It turns out that "Visual Clutter: The Game" really doesn't work in 3D. Maybe it was possible to make a good sequel to Risk of Rain in 3D, but my goodness this isn't it. It's just a pity that Hopoo didn't learn anything from the example of Trine 3.

I loved the original Risk of Rain and really, really wanted to like the sequel. Unfortunately, the switch from 2D to 3D did no favors. The game looks generic and plays poorly. I didn't play until the full release and now that it's fully released I'm sad to say that it plays like a day 1 early access game. It's just a big, sloppy, janky mess of stuff that doesn't work together. This gameI loved the original Risk of Rain and really, really wanted to like the sequel. Again, huge fan of the original (and Deadbolt) but for me, this is a big swing and a bigger miss. Expand

Waste of time. Learn to communicate with your audience. Game needs quicker updates and relevant information shouldn't be hard to find.

I have almost 100 hours of this in co-op, and yet I struggle to find any kind of fun in its extremely uninteresting gameplay loop. Each run feels like it's almost exclusively controlled by the random items you get, with everything else barely mattering at all. Even then, none of the items I've seen change the playstyle (unless you get one of the godlike lunar items that will let you beat the entire game without pressing left click whatsoever). The game turns out to be extremely easy (except that one part everyone hates) even on the hardest difficulties and even if you stroll through the levels at granny pace - the difficulty timer at the top of the screen is completely ignored by everyone after their 3rd run. Top it off with nauseating FOV and you got one of the most boring roguelites I have ever played. Expand

broken multiplayer, can never find matches. great when you can actually find a match which is rare otherwise your waiting for a good 15-20 minutes for the next match to be over and theres no clear indicators which matches have started or not....

    Hopoo Games what a joke

Actually the most overrated game of the past decade developers make 2 hours worth of content and stuck in into a randomizer and call it a game. Gameplay’s not even fun. Just run around in circles and kill a bunch of things over and over and over and over, all with Minuscule changes, pathetic excuse for a gameplay loop, mildly enjoyable for 2 hours and that’s it. I find it hard to understand the 'Overwhelmingly Positive' review score on Steam. There are so many issues with this game.

I find it hard to understand the 'Overwhelmingly Positive' review score on Steam. There are so many issues with this game.

This is a roguelike with poor balance and terrible RNG systems, which means that every so often you have a fun run and the rest of the time its a total drag to play. There's only a few levels and they get samey really fast. There's only a few bosses and they get samey really fast. Movement always starts off super slow and clunky, and this only changes if the RNG allows it to.

There are many things that could have been done to improve the experience, but the main one for me is that the game should give the player more agency over their build. The way things stand, the player is a slave to layer upon layer of RNG. There is RNG as to how many loot item boxes spawn in a level, where they are, what type they are, and of course what's inside them. There is one loot box that is a choice of three, but often one or two of the three is a question mark, aka, a random item! (why???)

Roguelikes work best in these ways: either let the player choose between two or three pickups most of the time so that they can consciously move toward a build (like Slay the Spire or Hades), and/or make sure there are enough pickups that the player can figure it out on the way (like Dead Cells, Binding of Isaac). ROR2 does neither. And on top of that, it slaps you with a countdown, making the levels harder if you take time to look for more loot.

I can only assume the people rating this highly are rating it off of their rarer god-like runs and are forgetting about the drudgery runs. A good game should be FUN first and foremost, from the get-go, not promising potential fun somewhere down the line, and only if you're lucky enough to snag it.

What a dumb game, no story, no tutorial, just start the game and shoot, die and start again, shoot and repeat.

A shooter with a roguelike’s soul, Risk of Rain 2 is pretty much devoid of any deeper meaning, but at the same time perfectly executed and brilliant in its simplicity. [11/2020, p.33]

Risk of Rain 2 does a great job at creating an engaging world full of frantic moments, although sometimes its procedural features get in the way.

We have finally lived through the full release of Risk of Rain 2. With the full release comes a new character, who is excellent, and a true final level, final boss, and an ending. On top of that, we get even more excellent music from Chris Christodoulou. It cements Risk of Rain 2 as one of the best roguelikes of all time, and certainly one of the best co-op roguelikes too. There are a couple of things I was hoping to see with the full release, like more skills for the other survivors, but I’m sure they’ll arrive somewhere down the line. As it stands, if you’ve not played Risk of Rain 2, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
