    Pros:

    - jumping adds parkour mechanics - highly improved texture and polygon quality thx to UE5 - classes make the game more accessible and customizable - auto revive, melee builds, .... - they still reuse a lot of elite enemies as bosses, but at least they give them now new moves and game mechanics - very clean 3D minimap and general map - core gameplay loop is pretty addictive -

    - very clean 3D minimap and general map
    - core gameplay loop is pretty addictive
    - a lot of well hidden secrets to find in the world
    - high amount of replayability
    - 20–30 hours of playtime on the first run
    - the game does not handhold you
    - no microtransactions
    - no ingame shop
    - no battlepass

    Cons:

    - bad netcode in coop play (desynced boss fights)
    - resource starvation (extremely low currency/scrap drop rate)
    - many pointless dead ends level design wise (procedural generation)
    - stuid enemy AI that does not see you even if you stand right before them, which may work in a melee based dark souls game, but does not work in a shooter.
    - very unevenly paced enemy density in some of the more open areas. You can walk for minutes without seeing an enemy and then suddenly 20 enemies spawn out of the ground at once.
    - boss design relies heavily on adds, constantly reuses elite enemies as bosses, mostly balanced around multiplayer
    - worst optimization ever (only runs fluid on nvidia 3000+ gpus with dlss turned on, if you want to play on high graphic settings with 1440p/4K and a high framerate ( 80-140 fps ) a 4090 gpu is mandatory )
    - some animation have just way too many recovery frames ( literally all melee animations , standing up after getting knocked down takes 6 seconds, vaulting )
    - writing is bad (nonsensical story, annoying voice acting, pointless ESG tutorial, your own character sounds like Steve Urkel, absolutely forgettable NPCs for the most part, 2nd grade philosophical storytelling, the story in the first one was slightly better and less intrusive )
    - flat and static lighting
    - stiff facial animations and outdated looking faces
    - gunslinger class gated behind preorder bonus

    Conclusion:

It is a pretty fun game overall. Quality-wise, it's roughly on the same level as the previous game.
They improved in some areas (texture quality, polygon count, giving your character the ability to jump, improved 3D mini map and 3D map in the menu, more accessibility with certain classes having access to self revive and summons right from the start) but at the same time they also deteriorated in other areas (atrocious writing, forgettable NPCs, dreadful technical performance, low enemy density in some more open areas, resource starvation, gunslinger class locked behind preorder bonus, 50 $ price point for an AA game)

    Overall Rating: 7.8

I would give the first game "Remnant: From the Ashes" a Rating of 8.2

More often than not you are going to find yourself aimlessly wandering around the map searching for the one path that leads to your destination. Some say that in this way the game forces you to explore its world, but there is not much to discover after all. All you will find, is some generic post-apocalyptic mess covered with slightly above-average textures. Like yes, it all looks fine, yet remembering this game was developed with Unreal engine 5 leaves you decently disappointed. Overall, it consists of the typical Souls formula: You are passing through lots of minor and large dungeons while exploring, killing enemies left and right with a very solid combat system and earning more and more of the worlds lore with each boss you „fell“. If that is enough for you, go have a good time! If you are expecting anything more, like a compelling and motivating narrative, memorable characters or a beautiful world design, do not waste your time with this, alternatively wait for a sale. I do not intend to sound too negative by the way. If you are a fan of Souls games, it is an enjoyable experience, especially in coop. I just don’t want the average player to be fooled by some paid of testers or overly excited You-Tubers with a huge preference for these kind of games. Expand

Online functions need more work as it is frustrating to get into a game and never get revived, or getting kicked as soon as joining a game. Netcode has issues as well.

The rest of the game is fine but nothing special or extraordinary, there are better implementations of every noteworthy feature of this game in other games. I would have given this game a score of 6 or 7 if it didn't have the issues described above.

I think the game is fine for console peasants, but it is not good enough for pc gaming standards.

What's new is the slower grind, outrageous bugs and glitches, and worse performance.
Leaving a relic menu can lock character inputs, performance issues can cause input lag resulting in double inputs or no input. Dodge rolling this time around is not as precise as other similar games and levels often are unforgiving (death ledges and narrow hallways). Scaling this time around makes most, but not all weapons feel like you're never getting any more powerful. For example, my starting rifle killed first zone normal enemies with two body crits, and at +7, the mobs still remained two body crits kills.

The story is nothing noteworthy. As this is a spoiler-free review, you be the judge. All in all- the game is a decent co-op experience, but slightly more boring as a solo experience. The move for diverse classes and multiple archetypes is a highlight. If you missed the last game you have more of the same in this version.

This game is the definition of fun due to its unique procedurally generated levels, enemy combinations and tons of secret hunting which secures itself fresh each time you are going after something in the game.

Dual archetype combinations of more than 11 archetypes( currently known ) alone result in 55 different playstyles, not including the limited set of trait points so that you can't max it out and you have to swap them according to your playstyle, tons of rings, amulets, weapons, weapon mods and mutators on top of them.

Story consists of scattered randomly generated storylines that serve the larger focused storyline and giving you bits and pieces about the world by putting you in the place of a character, while explaining it through different npcs and visual story telling.

The combat in this game is fluent and brutal, it's a combined dance of mechanics at play coming together and boosting the fun by a huge margin. There are many melee and long ranged weapons that you can find in the game and upgrade. You really feel like your character is getting advanced as you keep playing it. This is such a great feeling and it nails this formula by borrowing it from its grand ancestor Dark Souls. I especially liked what they did with the melee system now and I can play a dedicated melee build to wreck my opponents. This game is 100% doable solo if you want to keep your pace to yourself.

The game has a lot to offer and it's an upgrade to the Remnant : From the Ashes. There's a high number of build variety resulting in many different playstyles. Puzzles are eye opening and require you to think deeply. The game gives you all the necessary tools to overcome its meaty challenges.

If you are looking for a game that is a challenging rpg, souls-like and a shooter that combines together the greatness of several genres into one hella meaty game that you'll not even notice hours going by while playing it solo or coop, then this game is definitely worth a check.

You may have performance issues based on your system and your video card's upscaling technology. I personally had no issues and no bugs except for one when I had lost internet connection and the game locked me in the connecting menu when I tried to connect back again manually. These issues will mostly likely be fixed and it's not detrimental to the experience overall.

Gameplay: Gunplay is easily the best part of the game even though it's truly average at best. That's all I have to say about it. You shoot things. World Design: Randomized floor plans are barely random. Imo, not a single area is really worth replaying. Every world is bland and small. Nothing wowed me with world design. Class System: The majority of classes that can be obtained will be obtained pretty late into the game. By this point, you most likely won't level your subclass by the time you finish the campaign. With the bad world design that isn't very repayable, you won't use that class to its full potential basically ever. Customization: There are not a lot of armor options in the game. Actually obtaining these armor pieces requires following a 40 step guide in order to find it. Weapons: Not a single weapon felt very fun or interesting to me or my friends that I played with. Boss Design: The boss design is passable but you aren't going to be too impressed. Difficulty: The game isn't very hard. For majority of boss fights, I was able to solo and first try them. The boss fights that were hard threw infinite spawns of ads at you while you tried to fight the actual boss. Overall: Every single aspect of the game was either generic (enemy design, weapons, armor, worlds, bosses) or lacking in some degree. I genuinely think this game deserves a 4/10 MAX in comparison to the Souls games which this game is directly choosing to compete with, it truly fails on every single thing it tries to do. Expand

The game is ok with graphics and level design, but the bosses fight are terrible. They are not fun. Boss have terrible movesets and the only thing to figure it out about them is in what window to heal. They alone are pretty easy, and the devs saw that, so they put someone shooting and attacking your back. This is a terrible solution to make the fight harder.

Enemy designs are unique and the boss battles mechanics are also super entertaining.
Me and my friends died like 10 times at the first boss and it was such a big achievement to kill it for the first time. We listen to all the dialogues and follow the story together while trying to unveil all the secrets on our way.

Overall if you want to play something fun with your friends and you like souls like shooters, go no further Remnant 2 is 100% for you. Don't let the fake negative reviews fool you, try it yourself.

I played Remnant 2 alone on normal mode and it’s pretty good. Playing alone was alright. The gameplay is very fun and the enemies and bosses are challenging but not too difficult to the point where I start screaming at my TV. The story is okay but I never felt any emotions for any of the characters because they just weren’t around enough. It was just me and my guns against the world. The game needs a major update. There are sudden drops. I defeated the mounted boss with a melee weapon, standing next to him. He didn't even react. It's funny that if you shoot the enemy's feet or shoot him in the head, he gets the same damage.

Very solid and fun third person shooter with lot of replayability. You don't come for a plot or good written characters, it's all about shooting stuff and it excels at it. Need some balancing (weapons and resources drops seem limited) and many bosses could use a bigger arena. Otherwise highly recommend it.

Was just trying to fill time before bg3 or exilecon , but to my surprise this turned out to be my favorite game of the year so far, maybe even including last year as a second place after Elden Ring.

The highlight for me has been the extremely fun, engaging and unique bossfights, theyre thouroughly well-designed and more mechanically interesting than any I have seen in any shooter, even the side-dungeon bosses. The gameplay is refined and fun, there is satisfying character progression and loot, very interesting puzzles and secret hunting.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the range of interesting builds you can make with skills, rings etc. it seems as if other reviewers are review-boming and has not actually played the game, since they heard that the developers reduiced the trait cap from a bloated number in the first game, and assumed this meant less room for buildmaking. Althought I did not play the first game, I would argue the opposite, as it forces you to decide on a gimmick or a few, rather than just speccing into everything without any regard to what you choose. Theres also the multiclassing, and selection of skills within the classes, which by itself would usually be considered by most as more than enough for a coop shooter of this type.

The game is also very innovative in how it randomizes the entire campaign, incentivizing me to play both on my own and with my friends, without fully commiting to either, and not having to do almost any duplicate content.

Performance drops after extended play like others have mentioned, but for me having to restart every now and then is not a big deal, as I get at least a couple hours with 100+ fps.

A souls-like getting a sequel is, at this point, a guarantee that I'm going to be subjected to bull**** stemming from a developer trying to one up the difficulty of their previous game rather than actually make something fun and not frustrating, and that was confirmed for me not even 5 minutes into my first side dungeon with a enemy that takes minimal damage before you blow open a weak point, and who has a five hit (maybe more, I didn't count exact numbers) combo that will definitely hit you at least once because of it's ability to pivot and move between each swing, and this is compounded by the fact that they made dodge distance a ****ing SKILL that you need to sink points into, and good luck healing considering they never fixed how agonizingly slow it is when you can dodge one attack, think you have an opening, then get interrupted or killed because the enemy/boss busted out a gap closer into another hit/combo.

I intended on persevering out of love for the first game.

And then I encountered a mini boss in another dungeon whose main attack was to BLIND you by glitching your screen, TELEPORT you, and then proceed to smack you about either itself or with it's minions while you try and re-orient yourself.

Nah, that's a Did-Not-Finish, uninstall and refund for me. FOH.

The RNG progression also is just a stupid marketing gimmick only done so the devs can brag "how many secrets our world have" - those are not secrets, just a RNG slot machine. It hurts the experience massively. And no, it does not make me wanna replay the same level 30 times so i can get the desired boss randomly spawn for me this time, maybe. The incompetent devs completely misunderstood what in Diablo 2s procedural levels made the game great and overdid it in an insanely bad way. The combat is again, just like in the first game, a chore. While the mere act of shooting by itself is undoubtedly fun, everything else about the combat drags it down. Overall, a **** game that i cannot recommend to anybody.
And no, this is not "Dark Souls" with guns. Its insulting to FromSoft's masterpiece to even put this AA jank trash in the same sentence as Dark Souls.

so as a huge mega fan of the first game i was overly hyped after they announced the sequel and after 30 hours in i must say that the game is well.... good but also bad

    pros:

    - the game looks superb and also doesn't crash and now can finally not be called from the crashes

    - the gunplay feels great most of the weapons are just *chefs kiss*

    - the level designers need to get a raise really great level design and every new map feels super unique

    - a lot of cool bosses and now most of them aren't just bullet sponges and almost every boss has a cool unique game mechanic like a mini mmo raid that you need to do while fighting them. it adds a lot to the boss fights and actually gives a lot of character and personality to every fight and not just shoot and win

    - the build diversity is a lot more focused thanks to the job system they added. you can easily create a melee build or switch jobs to something else and have more personality with your own gameplay.

    - the secrets and the puzzle are a warm welcome as always ,adds a lot more depth to the game.

    - your character as a personality and finally talks and interacts with the co op partners and npcs and now its not just random shout outs that feel out of place

as you can see the devs doubled down on most of the things that made the first game special and made almost everything perfect almost everything , there are a lot of things that just felt.. bad

    cons:

    - the job system, although now more focused feels out of place and restrictive in the first game everything was open which led people to make a lot of make shift cool builds but now you need to follow a very specific way of play because of the job system. plus most of the jobs are out there for you to find which becomes just a giant chore. also after all that you have to level up your job which also just becomes a giant chore to do.

    - why almost every unique item i find is a ring it drove me crazy to finally figure out a puzzle and get a lack luster ring for it plus why is there barely any armor sets in the game and why do i need to pre order the game to get cool armor sets WHY JUST NOT ADD IT TO THE GAME GUNFIRE ?!?!?!

    - the ending was meh and the final boss was ok he felt hard just for the sake off didn't feel special at all really just a lot of build up for a mini dragon that hits like a truck

    - why is the main hub so huge found myself just running most of the time back and forth for basic items
plus the hub lacks secrets and cool areas like in the first game felt like an oversized nothing

    - i know that technically there is more maps in this game but 3 giant maps labyrinth and final area felt short this game deserves a lot more in my opinion

    - the story was very meh and felt like a bait for dlc where did ford go why did he activate the portal it all felt very much rushed and lackluster

    - the maps even after re roll felt like they are the same not a lot of diversity in the re rolls and after 30 hours it feels like i completed 80% or even 90% of the game

    - the game lost its unique thing with alt kills to bosses i was very disappointed to see that the alt kills are just small secrets here and there and not special cool ways like in the first game

in conclusion the game is fun especially with friends but plays a lot different from the first one in my opinion slightly for the worst

i do hope the dlc makes the second game better like the 2 dlcs made the first 1 a lot better which leads me to my final score a 7.5 out of 10 i do recommend this game but at a discount or wait it out for the master edition with all the dlcs

Average game. There were a lot of lags and bugs. Optimization at the start was terrible. Bosses are easy except for the last one like in the 1st part. Watched all the cutscenes but didn't really understand the plot. Could have done better.

A rare beauty with beautiful voice acting, amazing character classes, untold number of secrets to discover and satisfying gunplay+melee fighting.

It is well worth your time.

The devs halve already put out a balance and optimization patch 2 weeks after release.

Buy this game, you will not regret it.

Weapons play differently and each one has it particularly, same for the classes and dual classes is really fun to try to mix and match.
Secrets and dungeons are really fun.
You can reroll your campaign or play an adventure mode that let you replay a biome you previously played but arranged differently with new story points and dungeons.

The game was 8 or 9 for me at the point.

Now for the bad. The scaling is bad. It takes into account your 2 highest classes levels and 3 highest weapons levels. And you cannot scale down only up.
It means you better level your new weapons if you want to test them and see if you like them which is already time consuming just to test and play a bit with new weapons. Meaning upgrading your gears makes the game harder with no going back.
However, the more you "level up" the more the enemies do damage. But you can't level your armor so you are forced to use gear that increases damage resistance instead of using what you want.

I kinda stopped at this point, I had fun with the game but it wasn't anymore when I reached level 10+. Continued to 14, and got near the final boss but since I wasn't having fun I decided to stop altogether, which is annoying since I had fun with weapons and builds.

I thought, to be honest, that the plot part would be bigger, but not the point, we have a good sequel that removed many of the inconveniences and jambs of the original, and this was already enough for many to fall in love with this game. I, however, am ready to evaluate only a little higher than the first part, because development still has room to grow

What some people could dislike - difficulty - secrets
    - not everything is explained/obvious and you have to explore/try out things
    - a lot of text to read/listen to
    - to get some special things you might need to replay worlds a few times

    Would give this game 9.5/10

I love this game, the art, the gameplay, even though I don't usually like shooters. Build variations feel endless, exploration is fantastic and in-depth, especially when considering team play. Awesome to explore alone, but for a different but equally fun experience, team up easily with friends (not this **** you have to go through in Dark Souls to play together, just click & go).

I'm soon 100 hours played and that's a rarity for me.

I see people whine about the plot but the beauty of the plot is that it's much like DS, obscure, but not as obscure as DS. By just playing through the zones you get a general idea of what's going on, but if you take time to read journal notes or look at items, you can discover more. I don't usually enjoy serve-and-eat plots and having to click through a million RP options and stuff, this game does NOT do that which is great - instead it is much more geared towards exploration, tough boss fights, yet somehow the lore of the zones intrigued me and I loved being mystified by it and working out what was going on.

I'd actually give it 10/10 but there are some glaring performance issues that rear its head at random times, such as certain buffs causing serious framedrops, but in general the game runs well enough for my old ish gaming pc. The dev teams seem on top of the issues and are listening to community for wish list changes and performance updates as well as balancing the classes.

Leaps and bounds over the original. Requires a pretty beefy rig to run smoothly as expected of an Unreal 5 Engine game but I have that beefy rig so my score is not impacted.

Very good game, graphics are very very good, it's a pleasure for the eyes (well, ok, optimization is not good, but if ur PC runs it well, it's beautiful). It's more like a 7/10 but i want to balance the 6, which is not deserved IMO. A lot of things to do, secrets, good gameplay, cool bosses... My biggest disappointment is the build system

This review is assuming you are playing co-op. I can't imagine this would be very fun alone.

I will start with the one problem I have with the game. Since everything in the game is procedurally generated, you can get stuck with some really BAD zones. I started in the medieval zone, and it was an amazing experience. I won't spoil anything, but it was incredible. Then I spawned an 'adventure' of that same world, and it was AWFUL. It seemed like I got the most frustrating areas all strung together, and I hated it. It was really concerning to me right away, that a new player might be stuck with that world in their main game and just come to hate the game based on that.

And what I like about the game: Pretty much everything else. Sure some bosses are way harder than others, but it seemed like the required bosses were the easier ones and that is understandable to me. A lot of people are complaining about crashes, and I received one of those in about 20 hours. A lot of people are complaining about performance issues, and the worst I had was sometimes my game would hitch for like 1 second, but it was hardly even a distraction it happened so infrequently. (3070ti laptop)

Out of the around 25 bosses I remember fighting, only one was kind of meh. The rest were bangers, and had varied mechanics that kept me interested. I even fought a boss that looked VERY similar to another boss, and I was getting ready to be disappointed at fighting the same boss twice, when he pulled out like 5 all new mechanics and absolutely murdered me for 3 hours straight. It was awesome.

Overall, I have a whole lot of positive experiences with this game and very few negative ones.

When the game initially dropped, it was definitely poorly optimized but now that the patches have gone through, I rarely drop below my monitor threshold of 144 fps. Anyone that wasn't and still isn't able to get 100+ frames on their 4090s needs to learn more about their machine and how to optimize game settings. You signed up to to be a PC player... stop whining or go back to console lol. I had this game running over 100 fps within 15 minutes and I use a 2080TI. Learn your hardware people.

It's unfortunate that this game got as much hate as it did, because the devs have been very communicative and have clearly doubled down on making this game into something great.

Realistically, this game should be about an 8. Nothing ground breaking but a very very fun game. Giving it a 9 due to all the excessive hate though.

First off, this game is not for everyone. But what game is? I'm going to list some attributes and feelings and observations on Remnant II, both good and bad. It will be interesting to see what triggers people who played and disliked the game, and what excites people who played and really enjoyed the game.

It will be interesting to see what triggers people who played and disliked the game, and what excites people who played and really enjoyed the game.

    THE BAD

Difficulty - While there are 4 different levels of difficulty, the game is punishing at times. Not because the game has bad or cheap mechanics, it is because you just don't have the skill or patience to get better.

Graphics - If you don't like every zone to look basically the same and have a cohesive aesthetic, then go play Tears of the Kingdom or Elden Ring. This game offers multiple different biomes and they all have their own look and feel. It could be very jarring to normies.

Music - If you are not a music lover or don't appreciate when music moves your soul, then please stay away from this game. Each area and every boss fight (even alternate versions...oops spoiler) have a soaring and emotional soundtrack that captures the bond between you and your next challenge.

Level Design and Layout - This game will suck for you if you are the type that hated when the layout of Orgrimmar completely changed after Cataclysm and you had to relearn where everything was. Don't play this game if you like replayability and a fresh playthrough on your "new game +".

Story and Dialog - Christopher Nolan must have helped write the witty dialog branches and overall story. At no point does the story hold your hand, and it makes you think about what is happening around you. Ughhhh! When I beat a game, I want everything explained to me on a silver platter. If I wanted mystery and lore, and had to interact with NPC's and story cues scattered around the environment, I would go play Balder's Gate 3.

Game Optimization, Stability and Bugs - I personally had zero problems playing even during early access before the first huge hotfix.
Here are my PC stats: Game ready updated GFORCE drivers, Windows 11 with no malware or Pronhub viruses, I don't have the TEMU app downloaded and I spent a little extra money (still $30 cheaper than Lightfall deluxe) on the Deluxe Edition so I could make sure that they let me download a premium copy from Steam.

    THE GOOD

This game f*cking rocks! I have had an absolute blast playing mostly solo. It has been dam hard at times, but the sense of satisfaction I have after I finish a rough encounter (Nightmare Laby Cube fight, I'm looking right at YOU) is so exhilarating. The graphics are gorgeous and the world designs are absolutely stunning. The story leaves a lot of mystery and there are clues and hints at some bigger picture that we can't see just yet. I'm really looking forward to the 3 planned DLC's to flesh out what is really going on and how we are going to kill the Root for good!!! Oh, and the puzzles, secret classes, hidden interactions, alt-boss fights and so much more intrigue have made my 3 playthroughs so much fun. Thank you Gunfire! I loved From the Ashes, and I am a huge fan of 2. This might just be my GOTY. Let's see how Baldur's Gate plays out.

There are a good amount of different classes that allow for so much variance in game-play either solo or multiplayer.

Moving to the story. It's a straight forward story that also offers variance based on where you are and what parts of the game you get generated into you're play-through. This offers a tremendous amount of variance each time you play the game. If you aren't happy with a current play-through, no problem, re-roll your campaign and get the parts you desire.

Overall the game is challenging and is so enjoyable and one of the better games of the year.

Do you follow the latest releases? Consistently playing different games or new releases? Then thats harder to say. This is the type of gamer i am now so my thoughts are complicated. My experience with this game was soured at the start. Note there is no set world order but getting N'erud first really made it feel like a slog thru a barren mono-colored world after seeing so much about how the zones were visually interesting and unique and even screenshots of detailed worlds. This was such a let down. If this happens to you, rest assured that it will end. If you are fine with the zone well thats even better.

A lot of my disappointment was based on early impressions. I heard great things about the bosses. Yes, some were pretty good but most were either fine or boring with the same mechanics ive seen lots of times. If i went in blind im sure i would have enjoyed it more. The gun play with soulslike elements is fun. They nailed that foundation and i hope they continue making these games because that could lead to a masterpiece of a game in the future and nobody else has done it nearly as well as they have.

Remnant II is a great evolution of ideas from the first installment, making each adventure feel unique in its own way. It is one of the few Soulslike games with full co-op.

While it might be convenient shorthand to describe Remnant II as Dark Souls with guns, it must also be said that it is its own genre-defining achievement — a co-op looter shooter that finds its own unique, otherworldly identity without succumbing to the worst instincts of the genre.

Remnant 2 follows its predecessor to the letter albeit by improving every single aspect. It doesn't really need to innovate the genre, thanks to its utterly satisfying gunplay, myriads of secrets, excellent replayability and a diverse set of levels, enemies and bosses.
