It's all right. Finished in under ten hours in co-op.

Boring level design, rather bland bosses, no need to interact with any of the upgrade systems and whatnot. Pretty easy.

    Enjoyable, but nothing special.

the game looks cheap in some moments and wants to seem serious (and it doesn't work out because of the cheapness of what is happening) transitions between locations are also annoying, but overall a good soul like p.s. sequel should be better

I went through the game in solo, so I will evaluate it this way, since the game claims itself that it has a company that can be played like this. And about the solo: in most cases it is true, it's interesting to pass it alone. Even on YouTube there are some videos of a solo walk-trhouw at the apocalypse difficulty. But besides this, the whole game, anyway, constantly hints to you that it would be better if you play in a cooperative. And some really difficult and stuffy events, like endless enemies during the destruction of the Reanimators in Yaesha World, and in general the whole game-play and environment for example. I liked walking between the Worlds, creating stand-alone adventures... but the problem is that these adventures, along with the missed bosses and events, could be put into the main game story and not to make small zones from the Worlds from which a couple of intestines leave-corridors came in different sides. Looks like a walk-through the great closed halls, but not like a journey through the Worlds. And I generally did not like the situation with the fact that some bosses may or may not appear in their places. The second negative thing was that I periodically felt "crooked hit boxes" when the enemy got me hitting the air next to me, and when my bullets flew through the enemy(in situations of accurate hits, not "the ear hurt"). I also didn't like the abundance of save-points: the fact that there are save and/or transfer stones in important places at the entrances and near the bosses is very convenient and well done. It is possible, for example, not to save where it is not necessary. But the problem is that if you died, you can be resurrected not at a such stone, but at the moment of transition between zones, which is NOT! comfortable. The main interest of mine were bosses. They were great! Some not really interesting, some awful with their unfair difficulty in solo(), but the most(80%) were good or great. There were a lot of them and I returned to this game, by and large, for the sake of bosses, to find everyone who I could not meet in the main story. Thanks to the game for this. There was only one exception: The final boss of the main game. He wasn't hard or bad in general. He was awful as the final boss, as the character whom you must to defeat to end the story. For this, you need to buy DLC, because it makes this boss only a part of the walk-through, and the real final boss fight(in DLC) is better implemented... but he has it's own problem: Disney cliché with "the all-conquering power of love". Too childish for such a dark game.
The main story itself and the DLC story were simple but somewhat interesting... Just OK.
Crafting the different weapon from the different boss elements was a good idea. Healing heart, weapons and armor upgrades - too. But all this was very simplified implemented. On the second World(1/5 of the game), I didn't have to collect anything at all or pay attention to the ingredients. Only consumables like "elemental resistance". Accordingly, the loot was also not interesting too.

It runs well, looks good, and even plays well. Unfortunately, the entire thing feels bland. The world, the enemies, the battles, the guns, the story all feel bland. It’s a technically proficient basic attempt at a souls like game with guns that has nothing worth experiencing.

Funciona bien?

    Overall a solid game, BUT!
    - Terrible boss design (except very few) where it's just full of annoying add-on gangbang.
    - Toggle-to-run only, come on! in a souls-like shooter boss fight? It's unacceptable. - Some lazy enemy design, such as a stupid ass triangle shooting fire and calling it a boss fight. - Incomplete ending (unless you brought DLC) - Okay-ish dry storyline. - Lastly,

Free drop on Epic Store. Game has a whole low rent vibe to it. Local looked dull and uninspiring. Graphics look generally dated (PS3/360). This game is a mish mash of gameplay and visual styles all done previously better. Games that popped in my head when playing this was Hellgate London, Gears, Dark Souls. Seen this all done before and a lot better, meh.

Dark Souls with guns, but the story and characters are bland. The gameplay is quite fun, but the ads in the boss fights, while being necessary for the ranged gameplay (and them providing ammo) they take away from the quality of the actual boss. A solid souls-like that is distinctive enough to be on your list.

The bosses are boring and cheap, they're all normal enemy types with buffed stats and one special attack. What makes them even worse is the fact that they all have normal enemies on the side which was always an issue with Dark Souls type combat - many enemies at once is more frustrating than a fair challenge.

The areas are generic, the story and characters are insufferable, and the progression is your usual AAA incremental stat increases.

It might be decent fun with friends if you're thirsty for Dark Souls type combat, but otherwise I'd avoid wasting your time with this.

Here's the actual review: The game is fine, the story is nothing special, you just have to have interest to read every piece of lore disseminated in book across all the map.
There are some mechanics that are clunky and kinda RNG based:
-You can't cancel the melee animation
-Some debuff are actually so strong that make the game even harder
-in Apocalypse difficulty to complete the game you need to pray that the RNG god to bless you, me and a friend of mine formulated some kind of code to understand how the RNG worked to make the game easier for us, because you die with one hit even from the first enemy of the game. This difficulty isn't "hard" it's just rng based.
-some mechanics are difficult to understand and some "traits" (I think it's the right word for the skills) are not really clear what they do and actual improvents aren't that strong in harder difficulties (we can shave off half of them that become useless, actually 3 of them are in some way useful).

Disclaimer: I've tried playing Remnant solo and was left dissatisfied, dropping it. Then after some time, I was lucky to get a friend play it through with me, and saw a drastic difference. I consider the later to be the intended way to play and base my review on that experience, yet I do account for the solo one in the final score as well.

I consider the later to be the intended way to play and base my review on that experience, yet I do account for the solo one in the final score as well.

Remnant is a game that follows Dark Souls formula somewhat loosely, but the general design outline is kept close to the obvious influence: gameplay is on the forefront, while lore, story and atmosphere try to be obscure and cryptic. I consider this type of games to rely heavily on the former, and Remnant realises that too. It comes through with confident and polished gunplay, tactically challenging encounters that mainly require you to focus on your positioning and timings, and to keep that up - engaging, if derivative, progression loop. All of that comes together even stronger when you count in all the different build synergies in co-op. My only gripe is that some encounters, especially bosses, might be a little to random - frustratingly so at hard difficulty.

Levels are somewhat procedural, which makes them really linear, superficial and, ironically, not interesting to replay. Environments, on the other hand, are quite stylish, while not being that rich or detailed. Visuals are serviceable as well, some designs are quite striking, others - not so much. The same goes for music, that really begs to be more adaptive in boss fights, and sounds.

The story and worldbuilding are kept relatively timid and mainly shown off in one non-hostile location near the very start of the game - in a form of blocks of text on some abandoned computers, of course. They also lack any sort of thematic direction, but seem relatively fresh to me.

Remnant: From the Ashes is a horrible title, but a thought-out and well-built, lean gaming experience for you and a buddy or two, that'll keep you well invested while you're not trying to scrutinize it too much. Nowhere does it say that the game is also really boring on your own, so that knocks off a point to a 6 out of 10 in total.

The levels are badly designed and uninspired, they don’t spark curiosity or desire to explore them – but you still have to, because new weapons and armor aren’t dropped by the enemies, they must be found in obscure spots scattered across the maps. [Issue#241, p.44]

The combat is solid glue holding together a solid product, offering some fun cooperative shooting and a good amount of interesting items and weapons to build. Gunfire Games has already supported the game with two new modes and hopefully post-launch support will continue. While those who need a constant influx of new loot to parse through may find this game a bit on the slow side, those who are more familiar with games like Dark Souls may feel more at home here. The experience isn’t a perfect one, but there’s plenty to love in Remnant and excitement to be had in its future.
