Feb 9, 2026Despite its narrative shortcomings, Relooted makes a deep impression. It’s a history lover’s dream, offering factual glimpses into a vibrant continent that Western civilizations have long been groomed to view as backward and conflict-ridden, while offering thoughtful puzzle designs, fast-paced action, and a charming cast of characters. It demands a fundamental change in how people view Africa and its place in the world, one that resonates more with every reclaimed artifact.

Feb 13, 2026Smart design, a fantastic script, and a stellar soundtrack all make Relooted a delightful indie surprise to seek out.
-
Mar 4, 2026The workaday plot aside, the fact that my main complaints about Relooted boil down to wanting more of it says something about its quality. The heists are satisfying, the escapes are exciting, and the characters that get a chance to shine are charismatic. Relooted has the bones of an all-timer, but it falls short of building the perfect reliquary to keep them in.
-
Feb 9, 2026Relooted turns a fantastic premise into a fun heist game. Putting its weaknesses in writing and plot aside, repatriating African artifacts is fun, swift and captures the emotional spikes and troughs of the heist genre nicely. Relooted also never loses sight of why these artifacts should be repatriated, treating them not as empty collectibles but instead as a way to help players understand their cultural significance and why they should be returned.
-
Feb 9, 2026Relooted makes you feel like you're a mastermind, and escaping is thrilling, but there are just enough problems that drag the experience down to the point you can't ignore them.
-
Edge MagazineMar 19, 2026Until these closing stages, though, Relooted doesn't match its cast's bold determination and flexibility. Despite well-laid plans, the execution isn't as slick as it might be. [Issue#422, p.116]

Feb 11, 2026Relooted is a big, Black middle finger to the lingering violence of colonialism. It’s a game that does more than ask, “What if Indiana Jones was actually the good guy he claims he is?” It’s spiritual wish fulfillment. Instead of relying on the benevolence of colonizers to do the right thing, Relooted lets you take back what should have never left in the first place.
