With its bold new direction, superbly overhauled handling and some of the best, wheel-to-wheel racing out there, Project CARS 3 is a gamble that has resulted in one of the year’s best racers.

Project CARS 3 is a good meeting point between arcade and simulation. It’s not a perfect product: there are some flaws here and there, such as for example a not too impressive audio department. But overall, it knows how to entertain, thanks especially to an impressive amount of content and to its accessibility.

Project CARS 3 says goodbye to the ambition of being a full sim and drives fast to a safe simcade haven, made of an old-style career mode, car porn and linear progression. It works, it's a fun solid experience and in multiplayer even shines, but somehow the new identity struggles a little bit to find a proper balance.

At last a racing game carefully and entirely built around drive well instead of just driving fast.

Project Cars 3 is going to annoy some people and I completely understand why. This is a huge deviation from the series that people are aware of, it honestly is like the series has lost its identity. However, this doesn't mean it's a bad game. An undeniably less sim-like experience, this is infinitely more accessible than earlier Project Cars titles and it doesn't completely drop the elements that made the series great, featuring a massive number of cars and tracks with a huge amount of customisation and detail throughout. It isn't without flaws, such as the first third of the campaign, but the pros far outweigh the cons and this is, simply, a very fun game.

Project Cars 3 is bustling with things to do. It’s as accessible as the series has ever been, and while marred by some inconsistencies in its presentation, is for the most part a joy to play.

More-user friendly, more fun, but still boasting all of the bark and bite you'd expect from a top tier racing sim.

Project CARS 3 leaves you with mixed feelings. It has wonderful controls and good arcade physics, but its tracks are too plain and boring for an arcade racing game. It’s even worse if you’re a sim fan – the game will leave totally disappointed. [Issue#248, p.54]

Project Cars 3 might not be the sequel you expected from the series, but its shift to a more arcade style of racing is one that makes the series approachable for the first time. It's not a clean cut from its roots, and Project Cars 3 retains just enough of its simulation options to provide enough of a challenge with all of its assists turned off. The transition isn't seamless, with some confounding racing objectives and uneven AI that takes the sting out of some events. But if you're looking for another way to get out on a virtual track, Project Cars 3 is an exhilarating new alternative.

The arcade approach actually works – in a way. But with outdated visuals, AI problems and a few other issues this is less enticing than its predecessor and a racing game that fails to define its character.

Those who expected a chapter capable of making the classic leap in quality to the series created by Slightly Mad Studios, will probably be disappointed by a clear change in the driving model, which is still pleasant and immediate, although decidedly shallow.

Project Cars 3 is a great way to get into sim racing for newcomers thanks to its overtly gamey career mode, but the move into proper ‘simcade’ territory feels odd and unfulfilling.

Project Cars 3 would’ve been more successful if it was called something else. It leaves far too many important features on the table for hardcore racers, with an AI that’s too buggy and weird for new players. It feels rushed and could use some serious patches.

As the existing fans look on with shock, Project Cars 3 decides to make a franchise U-turn. It doesn't cause any huge accidents and merges into the new lane with decent grace, but it's already trailing the pack of other arcade racing games, leaving many to wonder if it was worth doing.

The first Project CARS game designed not only for hardcore simulation fans, but also for more casual racing enthusiasts, was supposed to be love at first sight. Well, it wasn’t. It does boast one of the most enjoyable driving models you can come across nowadays, but it’s not enough. The rest of the game (including the single-player campaign that should have been named Project Grind) falls short of what the best racing games on the market offer. [11/2020, p.52]

Slightly Mad has changed a lot of things with Project Cars, and it's not going to appeal to gamers looking for outright simulation.

Project Cars 3 has an identity crisis, with it’s lacklustre AI and many failings and dropping of many simulation aspects that made the core of the franchise developed by the community. It is a ruthless and utter disappointment to any who backed it. At the same time, it can’t be described as an utterly bad game, because underneath of all of its flaws, some true fun can be found.

Project CARS 3 could have been a nice venture into the arcade genre, but the result is quite disappointing, and overall, we recommend gamers opt for Project CARS 2 which is better, for probably cheaper.

Project CARS 3 is easy to pick up and play but impossible to recommend to Project CARS 2 fans.

A confused identity mixed in with its awkward transition to simcade makes Project CARS 3 one of the least satisfying racing games I've played in years. There may be potential for its more arcade focused design to be developed upon but Slightly Mad Studios is certainly not there yet.

Project Cars 3 is the first game to feature the all-new 8th generation Corvette, a car that driving enthusiasts were itching to get their hands on. It is used in the opening tutorial where its grand first impression is wasted on a two-lap quagmire of bad AI drivers and garish UI popups. Maybe that Mad Box console will come out one day and make things better

If you’re a racing fan, be it arcade or simulation, I recommend you avoid this game – it’s a thoroughly unenjoyable experience from a once great series.

Slightly Mad's expansive world of motorsport arguably works better as a hard-edged arcade racer than it ever did as a sim. [Eurogamer Recommended]

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Project Cars 3 is like you wanna buy your 3rd racecar from the same manufacture but you just got a bad show-car. Codemasters abuse slightly mad studios for their mainstream punk. they formed a sim-race game to a arcade-race game. they use the title to got a better reach and attention. they are lying to the community and told them that the changes came from user feedback. this is the end of project cars. this is game over. Awesome game. It's just not a successor to Project Cars 2. Had a lot of fun with it. It's a very fun simcade game. The only thing wrong withAwesome game. It's just not a successor to Project Cars 2. Had a lot of fun with it. It's a very fun simcade game. The only thing wrong with it is it's name and marketing behind it.
