The game has been having multiplayer sync issues for more than 2 years, But they keep releasing DLCs instead of fixing the base game
Promised no Microtransactions : added them and made them almost Pay2Win
    5$-7$ DLC every month. Weapons-characters-maps
    Before that, it was fun.

I didn't mind all the DLC 100%. It did bug me, admittedly, I never liked staring at a mostly blacked out in-game store of weapons I couldn't get because I didn't own the DLC. But it got worse, so much worse, when they threw in microtransactions and stat boosts. This isn't a freemium game, this isn't a free to play where these kinds of things to support the devs are okay. This is a game that costs money to buy, then costs more money to have fun later on, and even more money to get things quicker if you're not looking for spending a few hundred hours getting points. I wouldn't recommend this game, it was enjoyable at first but it quickly fell out of the tree, then proceeded to pick up a shovel and bury itself. Expand

PAYDAY for the developers as they vacuum money out your pocket. I'm happy paying full price for a game, pissed when I'm buying partial games and completing them with piece-meal DLC. Microtransactions need to die, I wonder how many great games and communities we've missed out on because of Pay2Win & microtransactions.

After Overkill went back on their word two years after release, I cannot recommend this game to anyone in its current state. This used to be a fantastic game. Then crimefest came along with its 'FREE' 10 day content event, featuring microtransactions on the first day which were originally stated to never happen.

Now Overkill have resorted to microtransactions, where players can purchase skins for the guns similar to CS:GO. Sounds fun doesn't it? How can that be a bad thing, you might think? Well, unfortunately these skins give stat boosts to the player's weapon. It doesn't matter if you have the same gun with the same modifications as someone else, if their gun is painted purple and yours isn't, they have an advantage.

A month after crimefest and the microtransactions disaster and what happens? Overkill updates their microtransactions system by allowing some skins to even provide an experience and money boost. Not only that, the boost stacks if other players also have a skin which provides boosters.

TL;DR: Overkill are not the be trusted. Game is pay to win. Stay away.

Must I really reiterate what many others have said before me?

It's been a couple of months, but people are still displeased.

Overkill can NOT be forgiven for this.

Très décevant, des développeurs qui trahissent leurs promesses...
Il y a un paquet de DLC, même avec les promos Steam, pour tous les avoirs on se retrouve quand même a 27 Euros passés. Ca fais mal.

Went Pay2Win micro-transaction BS after most of us put $150 or more into the game and DLCs with the promise of no micro-transactions or pay to win. This game company is just another sack of lying garbage like so many others.

Microtransactions. Bad Developers. Used to be a great game and had tons of DLC which cost an insane amount of money for a game but it was all worth it. Now they got even more greedy and added microtransactions. They lied and cheated all the fans. Terrible move.

The game has always been amazing but micro-transactions have ruined it.

Last played when the game was brand new, decided to give it another go.

I came back to find a ton of paid dlc (not always so bad) BUT...

---> PAY TO WIN stat boosting microtransactions are unacceptable in a game I paid full price for, expecting that I could play it properly in the future.

---> What a joke! If I could get any kind of refund now, I would.

He respected his people, promising never to implement micro transactions, and to provide free content updates. But as time passed in this wonderful land of PAYDAY 2, the kings lust for money grew. He began to create pricey DLCs, rather than fix the bugs throughout the land, and turned free content into useless content, like playable characters with no relevance to the plot or even the concept of PAYDAY. One day, the king, mad with greed, had an idea. At the end of this years annual CRIME-FEST, he'd do to the people the one thing he promised never to do. He released a system of loot boxes, safes, which could only be opened by paying money directly to the king himself. The people we're outraged. Their fair king had descended into madness. Safes were popping up everywhere their loot used to be. The people who embraced this new system were rewarded with skinned weapons with better stats, while those who couldn't afford drills were forced to suffer. While their teams would be fitted with these newer, better weapons, the people who didn't buy drills got left in the dust, just like with the DLCs. Noticing a mob gather at his castles doorstep, the king panicked. He knew he had pushed it too far now. He locked himself in his castle for a week, leaving his people lost and confused about what he had done. Finally, he emerged from his sanctuary. He figured the only way to disperse the crowd and keep his wealth was to make the drills, which he planned to profit so greatly from, available as a loot drop as well. He made sure to cut his losses as close as possible, making them an even rarer drop than most items in the land. Most of the people left, trusting their king did the right thing. But when those who didn't leave began asking their questions about the micro transactions, the king quickly spoke about "bringing balance to the land" with the new weapon skins advanced stats, then retreated back to his castle. Today, the people still willing to follow heir greedy, immoral king is far too many for a full revolt, but as the king pushes more overpriced DLCs into the peoples hands, the tension throughout the land builds. One day, the king will be brought to his knees, and will be forced to pay for his crimes against the people. Expand

This is one of the greatest games you could ever hope to play with friends. Even the pubs aren't THAT bad if you know how not to act like a jerk. It's clever, funny, and it tends to skirt the boundaries between "serious bank-robbing scenario" and Metal Gear levels of just plain odd (I wish it would just hop the fence already but its still just skirting enough to kind of hold interest). This is one of the greatest games you could ever hope to play with friends. Payday is a one of a kind series, and it does a lot of stuff in different and interesting ways, but i'm not going to list them. Do not start PAYDAY 2. Buying the base game is the equivalent to a gateway drug, and I don't care resistant you think you are to paying for DLC because you will wake up one day and realize just how little you've gotten from how much you've given. The companys standing is in a very unsteady position right now, and the new director or head or whatever is making some odd decisions on how to handle the separation with the community.

I wish I knew what was really going on inside Overkill studios. You can be certain that if I knew, I would let you in on it, for better or for worse. Unfortunately, the current state of this game is painting a rather grim picture of it's future. Believe me when I tell you, it's better to just cut out and find something else. Maybe you can check on it every now and then, just to see if things improve.

Let me start by saying this: At this point in time, the base game feels almost like a demo.

What may have once been a fun and interesting co-op shooter has clearly devolved into a microtransaction hell, with an increasing difficulty creep to match it's DLC power creep, leaving vanilla players left in the dust at the harder but oh-so much more rewarding difficulties and creating a community and game where owning the DLC is a requirement. This has resulted in what i'd wager is OVER HALF of the game being paywalled, in both content, difficulty, enjoyability and multiplayer aspects. Although there are ways to circumvent this using the vanilla game on a lucky day, such as having a friend host a DLC mission or using the one or two vanilla loadouts that will actually function on higher difficulties, by and large it is impossible to access these things without DLC. Thankfully enough, Overkill has finally attempted to address this issue of DLC overabundance.

Unfortunately they've somehow managed to completely botch their solution. While before one could attempt to cope by simply buying the meatiest and most important DLCs to compete with those who owned all the DLCs, they've now amalgamated them into a 40 dollar "Ultimate Edition" bundle, essentially forcing those who wish to delve deeper into what the game has to offer to fork over a full 40 dollars. This has resulted in the full price of what is a 4 YEAR OLD GAME with primitive AI, graphics that were respectable but below-average even for it's time, and a sore lack of optimization and stability costing 80 DOLLARS. You are paying the price of a modern AAA game for this lovable but clearly overvalued package. And if you've happened to hear about DLC unlockers recently, don't even bother. They render the game nigh unplayable online and there's no way to circumvent this.

All in all, unless you have money to burn I would not recommend buying Payday 2, and even then supporting such extortionate business practices like this is dubious at best.

This is truly a crying shame because, from a gameplay perspective, Payday 2 is one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played and quite possibly the best co-op game I've ever played. The action, although occasionally disorienting, is intense and fun, with the mayhem enjoyable not only with strangers online but even more so with friends. The guns feel great and their sheer level of customization on top of being able to pick different skills, perk decks and builds gives the game a level of variety that I've not felt in a long time (This variety will disappear in the vanilla game at higher difficulties unless you have the DLC though.)

The stealth is interesting, but isn't the games main point, nor should it be yours. If you're seeking a stealth game look elsewhere, as the stealth in Payday 2 is buggy and mediocre, although crafted stealth heists like Shadow Raid are quite enjoyable.

The game leaves plenty of room for progression, with most players never even reaching the full endgame.

Sure, it might be unrealistic as all hell and some might complain about the "repetition" of blasting through waves of cops or stealthing the same heists, but I honestly never found the gameplay to get old, and I doubt most people will.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
