The gameplay is pretty self-explanatory, you go into banks, nightclubs, harbors and etc. And rob the daylight out of them. This game can be pretty funny with some bugs that's been yet to be fixed.

The controls in this game is average, i would say it lacks the options for the video settings. And the vsync is this game adds in immense amount of input lag. (Use a 3rd party software like MSI AB to limit your FPS to 58/59).

The guns in this game, for now, lacks variety and it kind of gets really boring in higher reputation levels. If the upcoming DLCs would add in more weapons, there would definitely be awesome.

Some weapon modifications like the laser sight might be a bit too hard to acquire as they seem to never drop.

Masks are just plain cosmetics with really unique & nice customization options.

Now onto the A.I, different mobs have different roles and they would fight their way to get you. I won't say that the A.I is 10/10 but would give it a 7/10. It is not that bad that it sucks or neither horrible, but also, not as good and intelligent that it could really give it a real challenge.

To close it up here, this is a honest review unlike those some critics that just gives off some 'paid' opinions. For 29.99, this game out-beats most modern games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for an example (****ty one, yes).

Great improvement over the original game. There's much more variety to mission types, skill trees, and weapon/mask customization. More dynamic events keep things fresh, and if a shootout becomes forced, there's less a feeling of "there's a million cops out there and they all have ridiculous amounts of HP." Worth every penny.

One of the best co-op games I have ever tried. There are so many ways to play each mission. Stealth it? Or go guns ablazing? The choice is yours. Definitely game of the year for me.

Huge fun, when you play it with friends you may be amazed what you can do, what I love on this game the most is the play system, you can do anything as you want, sneaky or just come there and shoot everyone as rambo.

Pretty great game. I hate the idea of having to pay for everything even if i own it though. why do i need to pay $100k to put on a sight i already own? In real life it doesn't cost that much.

Guards sometimes seem to have eyes on their backs, the online play has synchronization issues between players and enemy hit-boxes don't quite match up with their model while an animation, such as staggering, is being played on them.

The guns seem pretty generic, but there are some that are very enjoyable to use. The ability to take a saw as your primary weapon and grab a submachine gun to go with it as secondary is awesome. Some guns lack the feeling that they actually deal damage because of their sound. Weapons can be customized to a great degree from silencers and sights to stocks and barrels. Almost anything you would customize in your favorite weapon, you can, except for visuals.

Mask customization is a big part of the game, too. After each successful job, you get a payday that consists of money, experience and a card draw. From this card you can get masks, weapon parts, money, materials, patterns and colors. Materials and patterns can be put on your mask and colors can be used to further customize the patterns. I would criticize the developer for the fact that you can only customize a mask once, but it adds to the longevity of the game. Once you have finalized your customization, you need to acquire the same mask again to switch a pattern or material, or both.

Unlockable abilities are a great mixture of something you would expect and things that aren't found in most games of its kind. There are many things that they kept from the original game, but also many that are totally new to the series.

I like the first Payday, is a fun game to play, but it has problems. This sequels improves almost everything! You can craft masks and guns, have a lot of maps to play in and an improved gameplay. I still think they should try something with the hostages: you should be able to move'em to a certain point while aiming at them.
Still, a fun experience to play with friends.

Though the game isn't perfect, it still gets a 10 because of the 9 updates already on launch and the devs are taking our feedback seriously. On the PC this game looks great maxed out on settings. The new skill trees and weapons along with randomization just makes this fun to play. Waste of time on the SP campaign but MP is where the fun is at.

Also, this game isn't PvP, so the new skins don't really make the game unfair to others if someone buys them. If you kick players with skins just because they paid for them, you can kick me for buying the DLC.

The game is extremely fun if you have friends who are about as experienced as you are. Playing with new players can be a pain, since you don't remember to warn them about everything and heists usually end up being restarted.

Gameplay is awesome and the game has relatively few bugs, though some bugs are extremely annoying. Cloakers keep knocking you out from inside a rock or behind a wall for example.

One of the best co-op games and doesn't cost much during sales. Loads of DLC which I recommend buying in sale and getting the GOTY-edition which has some in it.

Review from a Payday: The Heist fan:
Payday 2 indeed took the original gameplay from the first game and expanded on it. I gave PD1 a 9/10 and said: "The only reason I do not give this game a perfect score is because, regardless of how good it is, it could have been better. I would like to have seen more content in the game, and could come up with a huge list of easily implemented ideas that would have heavily deepened the game-play."
Overkill certainly deepened the gameplay, however, it lost something in exchange for what it gained. They drastically changed several different mechanics, whether it be gunplay, character motion, or depth of field gfx effects, and though arguably all are improvements, combined together they create a feel that is drastically foreign from the feel PD1 gave.
Regardless, those are all things that you can eventually get past and adapt to the new feel. They improved and expanded on many mechanics from the original game like customization and deployables. However, Payday 2 introduced, in my opinion, a few horrendous flaws to the game.
First and foremost is Crime.net. Without getting overly detailed, though Crime.net was an amazing and intuitive idea in theory, it has been a complete nightmare in practice. Crime.net needs to be replaced or drastically reworked. It is not doing what it was intended to do.
Second is the completely random number generated loot system. You have absolutely no control over what you receive as a reward for completing jobs. This just results in many players, including myself, getting extremely frustrated after a few days. All I want is an extended magazine for my .45 and after over 50 hours of play, I have over 15 million in spending cash and not a single thing I wanted to use it on.
Because of these two simple things, I have been finding myself playing other games instead of PD2. I don't want to deal with the tediousness of Crime.net in order to play a match, and I don't want have to continuously gamble on my bad luck for an item I have no power or control over getting.

I heavily look forward to being able to edit this review after they change Crime.net and make small adjustments to the loot system. The game is amazing, but offers some tedious irritations because of crime.net and completely random loot.

Great Multiplayer Co-op shooter! This is an excellent game and much improved over the first (which was great to being with) Enhanced graphics & gunplay. Lots of primary and secondary weapons to unlock along with modifications for them. You get your own safehouse. Missions are more advanced as they can span multiple days and are very dynamic. Highly recommended!

The implementation of stronger RPG elements compared to PAYDAY: THE HEIST was fantastic and I actually feel my toon is more unique this time around (granted there are optimal builds right now, I believe Overkill will get this balanced as they genuinely listen to the fan base and make changes). The four classes are unique and varied and there are not enough skill points to take everything from every tree meaning you have to plan things out. The weapons this time around are more varied with TONS of attachments and modifcations between them all. The graphics are not Titanfall/Skyrim/The Last of Us pretty, but they are fantastic with good lighting and are not a burden on the GPU, memory, or processor making it easier to play for aging systems! HUZZAH! Character customization comes in the form of changing and tweaking your masks for the crimes (otherwise you play the 4 heisters from the webseries and that doesn't change) and it is a fantastic system that is easy to understand. THe missions are varied, unique, and fun that most can be either stealthed (which adds a GREAT ammount of challenge) or run n' gun'ed (which is still fun). The shooting mechanics IMO are some of the best in any video game out today. The recoil on weapons feels realistic and weighty which is matched by supurb sound effects that makes the weapons feel and sound real. Furthermore on weapons, this is one of the FEW games that actually made the weapons cycle, reload, lock bolts, and use bolt releases correctly MAJOR points for that! Great coop of course as that is the focus. Overkill actively supports the game, community, and listens to us grip and praise them. They shower the game with updates and changes and have promised a TON of DLC and further support so more longevity.

The bad, not a lot. Bad single player AI, just terrible, so stay online and you are good. Mission geometry randomization to me was not as varied as advertised and could be better adding further replay value. No tutorial for missions, you are going to have to learn on the fly so be ready and pay attention to the experianced players (as generally they are helpful, only met one player who was rude and called people F***ing retards).

Not a lot of bad, GREAT pro's for the game. Drop the cash and support Overkill, they made a true gem with this title and fullfilled the dream of every man on the planet, to commit a Heist!

The contract givers don't have much to say, and the small amount of dialogue available does a solid job of making you feel like you're planning a heist. If you're hoping the criminals you'll be playing as are entertaining, then you'll be disappointed as the 4 main criminals are one-dimensional and only have about 1 paragraph of background found in the crime.net menu. Even though Payday 2 is weak in plot and characters, it excels in gameplay. 2/10

Gameplay: This is Payday 2's strongest aspect as the gameplay is fun, intense at times, and rewarding if you complete the heist with all the loot available. Even though the level design is small (with invisible walls), I was still able to enjoy what little areas the map let me used. At the start of most heist, you start off in "casing" mode. Here you're mask is off, and you'll be able to scope out the area and plan out what you and your crew will be doing (just make sure that when you're casing, you don't bring any big guns or armor if you and your crew are trying to complete that heist stealthy). Once you and your crew are ready (or one of you gets detected), casing mode is over and the heist begins, and if you've seen any heist movies, you'll know what to do. Get as many hostages as possible, look for any saves, vaults, or other important items, fight off the police as they try to stop your heist, grab the loot, get to the escape vehicle, and get the hell out of there. However, if you have a good crew with excellent communication skills, you'll be able to complete the heist in stealth mode (no alarms, no civilians calling the cops, etc.), and when you complete the heist in stealth mode, it feels so rewarding (especially on the harder heist on a high difficulty). The gun play and customization are also really good. You can customize your gun with different barrels, sights, stocks, etc., and you could customize your mask with different materials, patterns, and colors. When you get into a shootout, the guns feel powerful and actually have recoil in them, forcing you to be accurate (this game isn't called Rambo: the Bank Heist). Just like Borderlands, there are 4 skill sets to choose from: Mastermind-the guy who does crowd control and manipulating any guards or cops who get in your way, Enforcer-the guy who is the tank of the crew (charging in with a shotgun, and using saws to be a menacing threat), Technician- the guy who handles C4s, trip mines, and sentry guns to open saves and fend off against cops, and Ghost-the guy who uses suppressed weapons, answers pagers, hides bodies, lock-picks saves, and uses jammers to avoid cameras and alarms detecting him. You get exactly 120 skill points once you hit level 100, and buying all skills would take up 580 skill points. So just like in Borderlands 2, you'll have to respec (reset skill points) if you want to experience what all skills have to offer. The A.I. in this game however, act really dumb most of the time as they have to rely on strength in numbers to be challenging. The are a good amount of enemies in the game (10 to be exact), and one of them in particular (the Tazer) has got to be one the most annoying enemies I've ever played against in a video game (you'll know who he is once he tazes you). Now we get to the 2 biggest problems with the gameplay: The single player experience, and the unlock system. Just like Borderlands, this is a Co-op shooter, so if you don't have anyone to play with, then you'll have to deal with 2 stupid A.I. teammates who only act as bullet sponges rather than famous criminals. The other thing I dislike is the unlock system. You can purchase guns as you unlock them like in Black Ops, but if you want to unlock new mask, attachments (especially sights), or mask customization items, you're going to have to complete a heist, then you'll have to choose between 3 cards, and whatever's behind that card (attachment, mask, mask customization item), you're going to have to keep it, no buying anything, just complete heists (for farming unlocks, just replay "Ukrainian Job" by spending offshore cash). Overall, the gameplay is great, even with some issues. 8/10

    Graphics:
The game looks good at max settings, but nothing will amaze you. 7/10

    Sound:
The gun shots sound realistic, and the soundtrack is solid with some good tracks in the background. 8/10

    Multiplayer:
This games Co-op is just like Borderlands. 4 people at max (recommended each person has a different role), and all of you complete heist together. When you go loud, it gets chaotic and fun (just don't play solo). 9/10

Verdict: This game is essentially Borderlands 2 with heist, and it's a ton of fun to play. If you have 3 friends you want to rob banks with, then get this game. If you like to play solo, then you might wanna ignore this game then. Solo rating: 5/10, Verdict: 8/10

Payday 2 for those who don't know is a game in which you play 1 of 4 criminals who are on an epic robbery quest of Washington DC. This game is one of, if not best co-operative games I have every played. Overkill software did an amazing job on Payday the Heist (Their previous title for those who don't know) and is also one of my favorite games. Part of what makes this game stand out inPayday 2 for those who don't know is a game in which you play 1 of 4 criminals who are on an epic robbery quest of Washington DC. This game is one of, if not best co-operative games I have every played. Overkill software did an amazing job on Payday the Heist (Their previous title for those who don't know) and is also one of my favorite games. Part of what makes this game stand out in co-operative games is that the developers didn't just add multiplayer in and slap the word co-op on it, which games like Sniper Elite Nazi Zombies have done: Just shooting zombies and nothing else is not co-op, its multiplayer, playing with other individuals, but they dont NEED to be there. In Payday 2, you need other players there because of the new skill system in which certain items can only be unlocked through a certain tree with a certain skill, like the saw or C4 charges which cannot all be handled by a single person. In payday the Heist, after enough gameplay, you would unlock every single thing, and preparing would just feel the same for pretty much all your missions. The payday 2 skill point system allows the player to customize their play style and place points into any of the four skill trees: Mastermind, Enforcer, Technician and Ghost. You can "Ace" points to unlock more skills with more points as well. This means you actually feel like the character you are creating means something, and is not just 1 big 100% completionist run of all the trees like the first game.

The weapon customization system is now much more improved, allowing you to put attachments of choice onto guns to increase combat stats for all-guns-blazing or more easily concealed attachments for stealth missions, another aspect the first game lacked. The stealth has been very well improved, now with the detection meter during stealth, and actually being able to disable guards rather than have all 12 in the Diamond Heist (A mission from the first game) walking around and instantly being detected if one saw you. Overall, Payday 2's stealth is excellent and a huge improvement to the series.

The missions in this game are well designed, but just not as over-the-top fun as the first game. The first game's bank heist was a huge bank set in NYC called "First World Bank" with a huge vault behind many doors: a well designed and fun heist that took around 15-20 minutes to complete, even if the drill was just pathetic.

Payday 2's bank heist is a small bank in Washington DC named "Harvest & Trustee" with the vault in the open, about a 10th of the size of FWB, but the outside more detailed and civilians walking around. It can be completed LITERALLY in 7 minutes You see where i'm going with this one? The heists in this game aren't as good as the first games huge, OTT, blowing bridges up, robbing hospitals and beating up Matt heists (Play heat street in the first game and you'll get it) but Payday 2 does have a lot of fun heists and this doesn't take away from the experience as much as you may think from this description.

Last thing to talk about, the AI, oh god i guess i couldn't avoid this section, well here we go; The AI in this game is honestly some of the worst I've played with in games, not the worst, but its still up there. First of all, if your getting someone up, the AI will not realize that you are already doing so and just join in, possibly getting all the team members shot up. They also run into the open and sometimes ignore the SWAT and just stand there getting filled with bullets until they are downed, all taken into custody, mission over, start from the beginning, which is even worse when you need help getting up. This is the main thing I think overkill needs to improve on and I hope they do so in the future.

So to conclude, Payday 2 is a real stand-out game which has a few minor problems, but are easy to look past, and you'll find an experience fulfilled by no other game, a solid 9/10 from me, If you like action games, Just buy it.

Payday 2 is that kind of game that just gets pretty much everything right. It's an insanely fun co op game that has you crawling back for more every time. My only advice is to not play the same mission over and over again as it will probably cause you to get bored and stop playing for ages, you have been warned :p DLC is constantly coming out (PC only, consoles haven't got any DLC)Payday 2 is that kind of game that just gets pretty much everything right. It's a game you can either have a lot of fun or just get really mad and rage quit, it all depends on how serious you take the game and who your playing with.
All in all, it is one of my favourite games (Payday 1 will always be the greatest) and I give it a definite 10/10

Robbing banks, killing cops, and killing innocent civilians? What message does this repetitive and uninspired game send to all the kids that play it? I hate how you have to do the same thing over and over again to get a new level and get new weapons. Very boring; I was extremely disappointed because my friend told me it was a thrill to play. After shooting at civilians in a bank I fell asleep.

If you have ever watched bank heist movies like Point Break or
The Town, Payday 2 is the Video Game adaption of all those sweet
police shot outs or stealthy ocean's eleven like jobs. The game
is built for 4 player Co-op letting you build a team of friends
or if you don't have any of those, strangers. To take you pick from
tons of "Jobs" If you have enough patience you can stealth some from
beginning to end. Others require a more direct approach, But that
lets you use the large amount of guns to pick. From LMG's,Shotguns, Sniper Rifles etc
and mod them to the point where it is just about a different gun.
Once you have spent your millions of stolen money on new guys and
have nothing left to buy, you can spend the rest of your empire on
making custom masks to show off to all your friends. They have added lots of extremely rare and awesome masks to keep people going back for more. So collectively Payday 2 is a great game but if you don't play online or you hate human interaction you will be missing out on a big part of the game. Payday offers hours and hours of game play with DLC coming out all the time as well. If your a fan of robbing a bank blind I recommend this game.

    85/100.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.

A unique and captivating multiplayer experience that rewards team work over personal glory. But make sure you bring friends for the true experience. [Nov 2013, p.62]
