The only thing that OVK confirmed was a cloaker... Really? that's it? All in all this game is fun but OVK lied to us and now we don't have that many heists i had a solid 30 hours but now i'm bored since there is no more heists. Expand

This game is a lot of fun in co-op, so make sure u have a few friends to play this with as your ally A.I. isn't very good. It looks good, the controls are good, the game play is smooth. There are a few connection issues now and again, but it's nothing i can't deal with. i haven't run into many bugs and you can overlook the ones you find since the game play is so fun.

Beginning is great. Gets somewhat boring around level ~50s. Leveling all of a sudden gets a lot harder and with recent patches, money farming and tiara farming is no longer a thing.

I bought Payday 2 on the release date and I will agree with the majority that at that time the game was a little lackluster. However, I recently picked it back up with a couple of friends and man can I say that I haven't had this much coop fun since Left 4 Dead. They really did bring that game to the potential it should have been from the get-go.

It will be very fun and awesome if a Bank of America robbery map were released on Payday2 the same as the robbery that occured and took place in Hollywood where two suspects with machineguns and three AK 45 broke into The Bank Of America shooting at all the police outside the bank. I think it would be great if a map like this were created in PAYDAY 2.

It's a great game, you can do stealth missions, the payday community is awesome, if you don't have friend to play, you can meet new great people in multiplayer. The game is just a little repetitious, this makes the game a little boring after playing a lot of it, Overkill should put more maps by dlc or by updates (free dlc).

Honestly the best co-op style FPS game I've played, even compared with things like Killing Floor, Left 4 Dead and the like.

Its got the right mix of RPG style skill trees, so you can have a unique team kitted out the way you like to play, as well as all the interesting gameplay mechanics that were carried on from the first game. If you have a group of friends you want a great co-op

After contemplating on all my gameplays, I think I'm starting to understand why this game that I was so excited for got such a lower than expected score.

This game really is a unique fps/rpg game that fulfills what I always wanted in L4D2; being able to buy new weapons, earning weapon mods, and filling out skill trees. Firing any weapon in this game is powerful and the music really keeps the intensity going. I've always had the fantasy of playing this type of rpg/online fps. However, Payday 2 still stops my dream short...

Currently, Payday 2 can only be the skeleton of what I've dreamed of playing. I know that there's suppose to be 5 expansions throughout the rest of the year, but why couldn't they have been in the game at the start? From my in-game experience, there are about 7 main missions that the players can choose to do. But even through my 6 hour game session, I was able to play most of the missions (some even several times) and everything seems to seem the same after a while.

Part of the reason why I say the game gets tedious too is because there are a lot of people who don't play to the objectives. There were plenty of random players who just wanted to shoot up cops and civilians, even though the objective was putting a drill on a vault. If that's the case, then Overkill should implement missions that involve just purely shooting. Let there be more diversity of missions rather than grab this and take it to the van/boat/chopper.

Bottom Line: Payday 2 is a fun game to play with your friends and it has the high potential to be a superb and unique fps/rpg of 2013/2014... but it still has a long way to go. Let's just hope the expansions make this game what it realizes itself to be.

PAYDAY 2 brings back the characters from the original and they are back on a crime spree.
This time you can access heists through a dynamic map displaying heists (which are called contracts and can span from one to three days) alongside their difficulty levels and who is playing them. New contracts (which are not in play by anyone else) pop up all the time and there are many different contracts to choose from (around ten maybe more at the time of writing). The higher the difficulty of a heist, the higher the XP and cash gain. Each difficulty level introduces new enemy type(s). There are a huge amount of different masks to choose from, over fifty, which can be customized with colours and more which are sometimes gained after heists I'll get to that later. The contracts in the game contain bank-robbing, jewelry-robbing, mall-destroying, meth-cooking, art-stealing, bag-hauling and more, alongside controlling civilians and, of course, shooting guys with guns. If you're into a game having a range of weapons, rejoice there is a mighty range of primary and secondary weapons un-lockable through your 'reputation' level and then bought with cash. Just like there are many weapons, there are many attachments for them.
One of the biggest features in PAYDAY 2 is the skill tree system with four different trees: Mastermind, Enforcer, Technician, and Ghost. Masterminds have a med kit and can take control of a situation, allowing you to make guards cuff themselves, civilians help you up and people to do as you say. Enforcers have an ammo bag and are the 'big guns' of your squad, being able to carry bags quicker, deal more damage and have more health. Technicians have trip mines and sentry guns and can deal with equipment faster and more efficiently. Ghosts have an electronic jamming device and are about speed and agility, being able to sprint in all directions, take much less fall damage and pick locks faster. You don't have to invest yourself in one skill tree you can choose whatever skills you like.
Whenever you complete a contract, you and your crew can each choose a card out of three. They are face-down so you don't know what you're getting. With these cards you can obtain extra cash, weapon attachments, masks, colours, materials and more.
Unfortunately, after a certain amount of time, repeating the same contracts for more cash to buy, well, most things in the game becomes repetitive and shooting wave upon wave of cops becomes monotonous. Luckily, there are different ways to approach heists, there usually being a plan A which involves being stealthy or controlling people without the police getting involved, or plan B which is what usually happens when the alarm is raised and it's shooty-shooty time. The developers also promise more content and so far they have delivered there are occasional free updates with items, masks and heists, but also DLC for those who want it. Another issue is the not-so-great AI. If you are using AI teammates they will do a great job of being a bullet shield and reviving you, but they cannot complete objectives, which can make things difficult. The enemy AI can be odd sometimes, you might find them looking at a wall or being generally idle and soak up your rounds. This is not a common issue though, most of the time you'll be relentlessly rushed, flanked and have your objectives halted by your enemies. The last main issue which becomes apparent later on is that there is a certain level of grinding that must sometimes be done to buy that one thing you wanted, or unlock that skill you've been working towards. This is not a major issue but is sometimes complained about.
Overall, PAYDAY 2 is a brilliant, fresh and exciting co-op shooter that is at its best when played with friends. If you're considering getting this game... do. You almost definitely won't be disappointed.

I score this game as follows, from 0 to 10 with explanations below.

    Menu/UI - 5
    Singleplayer - 6
    Multiplayer - 7 to 10
    Overall Gameplay - 9

After reading reviews, I was very hesitant to buy Payday 2, because of numerous reports of crashing and a several reviews stating that it was just a disappointment. When it went on sale, I picked it up and gave it a shot. My first impression was that the game was okay, but nothing special. It remained that way until I gained a few levels and improved my gear, but it was mostly due to my beginning multiplayer.

Singleplayer is definitely lacking. Although you can play with bots, the AI is terrible and the bots are virtually useless except for occasionally helping to kill or helping you up after you've been downed. Aside from that, they make okay mean shields. Multiplayer is where this game shines... kind of.

I really enjoy co-op games, and Payday is the epitome of co-op. There's much to be done, and without teamwork, you won't get far. Hostages need to be controlled and tied up, safes, vaults, ATMs, registers, and cabinets need to be emptied, and cops need to be killed before you're all busted - assuming someone calls the cops. Although difficult, many levels can be finished without the cops ever being involved, depending on how well you can stealth around and avoid detection and/or control hostages. The Payday 2 community is surprisingly friendly. First person shooters tend to draw kids and immature adults. You will likely encounter a few of those, but despite the lack of moderation (no dedicated servers), I've played with complete strangers for a week without a single person having sex with my mom or beating me up IRL, but as with any game there is no shortage of bad players and the occasional mic-spammer (that you CAN mute). Overall, the multi-player mode is incredibly fun if you enjoy co-op FPS games and the idea of pulling off movie-like heists is appealing but you don't wan to get killed or spend your life in prison.

Leveling, just like other games, starts out very quick so you don't get bored, but then slows down, capping out at level 100. Also like many other games, each level awards you skill points that you use to improve your character, allowing you to choose a skill tree that fits your style of play and makes you valuable to the team. These trees are:

Mastermind - A group leader of sorts, providing health packs, hostage intimidation, enemy intimidation (allows you to convert hostages AND cops to fight on your side), extra stamina for you and your team, and many other skills that directly benefit your team.

Enforcer - This is your warrior tree, giving you access to the highest level of body armor, ammo packs for the team, increased health, etc. This is your best bet if you're a guns-blazing type of player.

Technician - The technician tree gives you access to cool gadgets like a placeable automatic sentry that will pretty well destroy any enemies within range, trip mines, and improvements to your (and therefore your team's) ability to get into safes, vaults, ATMs, etc. The technician's tools aren't always quiet, but are effective.

Ghost - This tree doesn't need much explanation, he has tools to render cameras useless and break into ATMs without making noise, he can silently kill guards and hide bodies to avoid detection, move faster, fall further, pick locks quickly, and other abilities necessary to stealth through a heist.

Now that I've covered what I like about the game, here's the annoying stuff. First, the servers are all player-hosted, and some of the heists are multi-day and the pay out is always on the last day, and if the host leaves, you get experience for day 1, but no money because all of the pay is given after you finish the last day of the contract. Ideally, if the host leaves, another player should become the new host. People don't mind waiting for a minute for the game to move to a new host if it means they can finish the contract and didn't just waste 10-45 minutes because the host left before the payout.

Next, the menu system isn't always intuitive. It's not unusable by any means, and most can certainly figure it out, but it's not great and could use a redesign or at least some polish.

You can't shoot through ANYTHING. It's irritating to see an enemy and be unable to shoot them until you shoot the glass out, or to see the helmet of an enemy sticking up just slightly from behind a thin obstacle like a plastic newspaper dispenser and they can't be shot because you keep clipping the corner of the obstacle. I'm not expecting to blast through plate steel, but an assault rifle or high-powered pistol should shoot through at least sheetrock or glass, etc.

Hackers - they're on your team and not too prevalent, but they do exist and can be annoying if you can't play the game because they noclip through it all in 2 minutes.

Overall, the game is very fun and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys co-op shooters.

The only downside, as with many games, is a portion of the community. As of the most recent update, Payday 2 has added crates that require a tool to unlock, ala TF2's crate; this upset a very vocal minority of players.

More than two years ago, prior to the launch of the game, there were rumors that the game would contain microtransactions at launch. David Goldfarb, a director for the game who left over a year ago, stated that it would not have them, and that he hoped it never would.

A community manager by the name of Almir also posted that Payday 2 would not have microtransactions at launch, and clarified on the Steam page that these rumors were at the time false.

Two years later, a fairly long time for a game to remain profitable, the game has introduced weapon skins. Some of them do offer minor statistical stat boosts, while rarer ones will offer boosts similar to standard mod load-outs, but counter the actual usage of said mods. It has very little effect in the game, but a portion of the community feels betrayed.

Do not let this dissuade you from playing this game! Most of the most recent reviews are from this very vocal group. The game is still very fun and they are still releasing content for it, even two years later.

A great multiplayer co-op shooter. Personally, I don't care about the microtransactions. Pay2Win is not really applicable in co-op game. It's like complaining about other players playing on lower difficulty levels. That being said, they should add all of the current DLC into a discounted package.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
