Mar 24, 2021For those looking for a very good storyline set in the gorgeous underbelly of a retro-futuristic bunker, it'll be hard to find a modern title that beats Paradise Lost. The closest comparison for both story and setting would be the Bioshock series. Despite not having weapons or intense moments of action, Paradise Lost manages to deliver a mind-bending story that won't soon be forgotten.

Apr 22, 2021Dripping with atmosphere, the sights and sounds of a lost end-of-the-world Nazi installation make up for a lack of interaction in Paradise Lost.
-
Mar 24, 2021Paradise Lost relies heavily on exploration and immersion as players make their way through some fantastically designed environments. Sadly, some issues with voice acting and brightness setting can take easily take you out of that experience. Still, I was intrigued to explore this war-torn world, even though some moments of the narrative can come off as overly ambitious.

CD-ActionNov 15, 2021Paradise Lost offers an engaging story set in a fascinating world, and it’s hard not to notice and appreciate all the work that went into polishing the environments. Sadly, there’s very little actual gameplay here and while the first two hours made me feel like an explorer delving into the unknown, I only reached the end because I had to. [05/2021, p.39]

Mar 30, 2021While the bunker in Paradise Lost is interesting to explore at first, it is not packed with enough narrative content to match its ostentatious surrounds. This brief walking adventure quickly becomes frustrating as you wait for the mostly unsatisfying story to reveal itself.
-
Apr 17, 2021This is a traditional first person adventure with too many clichés, but very enjoyable thanks to its environmental narrative.
-
Apr 4, 2021Paradise Lost surprises with the strength of its settings, but loses when it comes to telling a story.
-
Mar 27, 2021Paradise Lost is difficult to evaluate within the classic canons of judgment. The absence of a real playful component and the presence of a truly problematic technical level compromise the innumerable possibilities.
-
Apr 10, 2021It is easy on the eyes, but in this mysterious subterranean world there is only boring storytelling and sluggish button pushing.
-
Edge MagazineApr 22, 2021There's no development to be found in the details of Paradise Lost's development to be found in the details of Paradise Lost's carefully crafted props - that's all saved for cutscenes and diary entries. [Issue#358, p.112]

Apr 16, 2021Paradise Lost should be described as a hardcore walking simulator, meaning that we can only walk (not run) and the most complex thing we can do is press buttons. This could potentially work if it had an engrossing story but alas the personal story of Szymon is predictable and devoid of creating an emotional connection. Be that as it may it should be pointed out that the gigantic bunker depicts some scenes of beauty.

Mar 24, 2021Paradise Lost fails to take full advantage of its gripping premise and the haunting atmosphere of its setting, falling short of the standard set by other first-person narrative experiences released in recent years. It’s not as detail-rich as Gone Home, the radio-based relationship between its two leads never reaches the same level of intimacy as Firewatch, and its storytelling isn’t nearly as inventive or interactive as that of What Remains of Edith Finch. I admire the imagination that’s gone into realising the architecture of its underground facility, but I just wish the scarcity of story detail and character development within it hadn’t left me feeling colder than a concrete corridor.

Mar 24, 2021Paradise Lost is an interesting narrative adventure that captures the player's attention through familiar elements such as text and audio notes. However, his story is too reminiscent of others already seen if he has some baggage in the genre. The design of its scenarios and its artistic section stand out, its weakest point being the modeling and animations of human beings, although we rarely see them during the game. I would have appreciated some playable mechanics beyond exploration, but I can't blame Paradise Lost for this as, while it's not an outstanding game, it is engaging enough to keep you glued to the screen for 3 or 4 hours that lasts.
