They misrepresented what the game would be in order to justify the $60 price tag. That misrepresentation is going to land them in legal troubles... them AND Sony.

This game had enormous potential. If the developer had kept their mouth shut instead of spewing lie after lie AND the game had been shipped at a reasonable price, say $20 - $30, then they'd be fine.

But they did lie, and they did ship an incomplete game at a triple A game price. Inexcusable.

The trailers were obviously scripted and do not represent the final game AT ALL and are on the store page. There is a ton of content ripped out that you'll find on the subreddit titled "Where is the NMS we sold on" and you'll see all the lies. The gameplay is just collecting resources to fuel your ship to fly to another planet to do the same thing over again. No purpose. Pointless. This game is the biggest let down for 2016 so far. Here is hoping for Star Citizen but even then I have my reservations. Fool me once.... Expand

For those who forget, I invite you to watch all his past interview. He played very well with the fans and the media, but I hope that people will remember this.

With that being said, let's talk about the game. I just played a farming demo simulation game with no end game goal except " go to the center of the universe where nothing happen". Gathering resources to have ships with a bigger inventory.. Great. And that's all guys. The combat on the ground is terrible and very rare. On space ? I had better sensation of space combat in Star wars Rogue Squadron II... 15 years ago. I mean it's the worst combat experience I've had for years. You guys from Hello Games never looked at other games ? You've played Candy Crush for all this years? There is plenty of games (at 20$) you could 've take inspiration from, with not that much development to do.

Who was the game designer of the game, on which feature he worked on? It's great to farm rocks and trees but for 60$ really?. Seriously, you should've worked only on Joe Danger and mobile games. This game is full of bad design choice.

The UX/UI of the game is terrible, it's just a bad adaptation of Destiny interface and interaction. One example : "Hold" a key for ALL interactions in the game? Really ?? Do you even know why we use "hold" interactions at the beginning? Go read some books about User Experience. Even in the video settings ? Did you even played on day on PC? It's crazy how some things are just really bad executed in this game.
The design of the game is bad and that's all. No features in the game show the contrary.

Anyway, go back on developing mobile games. It better suits your abilities. You disrespect all the players who trusted you and I'm glad I wasn't that naive to give you money to play this game.
Sean Murray, you stolen money from people. You should be ashamed of what you did to promote your **** game. But yeah, now you don't care, with your tech demo, mission accomplished, you've earned enough money.

PS : I give 1 for the sound designed. The only skilled worker on your company.

    - engaging battles between warring factions
    - desert planets
    - interesting creatures (Spore has them)
    - NPCs that don't behave like a vending machine
    - interstellar life on planets (ships, traders, warriors)
    - no settlements crammed together having only a few hundred meters between them

The space environment is hugely insulting to any astronomer, stars are unreachable light sources on the skybox shining on a tight cluster of a few haphazard planets, I wish the systems did interact dynamically as every one of them I visited would have had a spectacular collision, Worse still is every square kilometer of space is packed with the asteroidal junk you need to mine to power your ship popping in as it crosses the draw distance

The main selling point of this is the random generation and it's infinite possibilities, but that infinity is always constrained, visually you may be able to get an infinite number of animals or space freighters, but functionally and gameplay wise they are all identical to each other, just a wandering resource node carrying common materials,

Planets tend to be differentiated only by whatever garish colour palette the RNG drew out of a hat and every station or building you encounter is drawn from an extremely limited pool, I only ever saw one station layout.

All in all I'd say stay away, the devs clearly had huge hopes for their baby but they haven't delivered on them.

    Cons:
-the first sign for me that this wasn't gonna be good was that the download was only 5 gb. Wait what? 5 gb for a universe sized sandbox?! Well unsuprisingly all of the planets look almost identical, the only difference is that some planets are slightly more darker or have slightly more aggressive creatures. In the words of Angry Joe: :"As wide as an ocean but has the depth of a puddle"
-the gameplay is the most basic of basics when it comes to a gathering and crafting game. you fly on planets, collect resources so you can fly on other planets and collect more resources. There's no interesting story, characters, factions or anything that Sean promised was gonna be there, was not and instead we got a one big bowl of **** YOU!

In conclusion No man's sky is a repetitive grind fest that will have you bored in a matter of hours. Just play elite dangerous instead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (CONTAINS SPOILERS)I'm going to be very short and precise with my review since i would not like to waste your time however at the same time i will make sure to cover all the points-

this game made by hello games is mediocre at best . multiple issues related to bugs and poor optimization are evident . In fact i feel ashamed to give this game a 5 . I should give it lower but I will cut hello games a slack this time , but they shouldn't expect that in the future.

The game promised too much and the hype was too large to be handled even by triple a devs. this indie studio overpromised and now the ASA are undergoing the process of researching "false advertising " done by the company . the front face of hello games , sean murray lied to us all with his innocent smile and because of that very smile they are sitting in heaps of cash . this article will provide all the lies incited by hello games on no mans sky : https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/4y1h9i/wheres_the_no_mans_sky_we_were_sold_on_a_big_list/ (god bless you if you have time to read through it all without breaking a sweat)

Even if you take away everything that was falsely advertised by hello games and look at the game as if it was the game that was promised to us , its still a very crappy game. You are paying triple a money for this game (19000 naira if you live in nigeria) but offer not more than a 3000 naira game . The game is heavily repetitive where you only do about 3 things , fly , mine and walk .even when you finish the game (that is when you reach the center of the galaxy) ******SPOILER ALERT******get taken to another galaxy after a small chit chat with the atlas , a sort of jello being you've been chasing the entire game .

All and all this game is an atrocious mess with bare bone features and nothing worthy to offer . The only thing i appreciated about this game is the music and the diversity of (some) planets .I would refrain from buying this , even a cheaper copy or even a pirated one because however you obtain it , you feel robbed , especially if you pre ordered it (please stop pre ordering your games if you do ) this game is half assed and i believe hello games drained more resources in making fancy cgi's for the game than actually developing it . As an alternative i would recommend star citizen or elite dangerous or perhaps an indie rival , rodina . spore is also a good option though not completely similar . Do your self a favor and ignore this game

If anyone wants to make a game today, PLEASE USE AN EXISTING GAME ENGINE! They're incredibly advanced and super-optimized these days, and they are cheap to license! You even get access to the full code and can modify it as you see fit if you need to do something unusual.

Game engines lets you stand on the shoulders of giants, and frees you from technical concerns so you can focus on developing your actual game! You'd have to be an idiot to not take advantage of that!

Should you be stupid enough to decide to roll your own engine instead (and have less than 100 man-years of highly skilled programmer time to dedicate to the job!), you'll end up with a game that looks really dated and low-resolution, but that still runs like total cr*p on high-end PC's.

Guess what Hello Games decided to do... that's right, they made a game engine!

And of course it sucks like there's no tomorrow...

Flying over a planet you'll hardly even see what it's supposed to look like because of the ugliest pop-in of any game in history. That's how bad this game engine is - it just can't load terrain fast enough, and it can't smoothly blend in objects as they spawn into view either, it just pixelates them into existence instead, which looks *horrible*. Especially when this isn't happening "in the distance", but literally right in front of you.

But the poor struggling engine also compromised the gameplay by forcing poor decisions. Your ship flies slowly and steers with the agility of a stoned cow. Both are obviously necessary sacrifices that were made because flying and turning with more agility would put even more strain on the already struggling terrain loading code.

BTW, you can't even land your ship where you want manually, instead the game auto-lands it for you, with about as much success as a stoned cow trying to cr*p in a bucket. I've tried landing on a point of interest and ended up as much as 2 minutes walking away from it!

But it's an RNG thing, sometimes the cow hits the bucket by pure chance. I even managed to land on a landing pad once!

Strange the game didn't give me an Achievement for that, it certainly felt more like an achievement than walking 5000 steps (which the game considers achievement-worthy!).

This review is already more than long enough, so I won't even go into details on why the game sucks as a game. Read other negative reviews for that, there's plenty of them...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a huge disappointment and barely fun at all. We were promised so much and give so little. One of the worst things of all is the devs are still keeping quiet about their development, and continue to lie to the fans about what is and isn't in the game. The whole thing seems like a massive cash grab, and while addictive, is very little fun at all. The graphics are awful, as is the gameplay and performance.

The three worst things are as follows-

    1) The Dev's continue to lie to the community over their broken mess of a game which they literally did lie about content during development.

    2) The demos shown on the steam store are still old builds of the game and look nothing like the real game. It is basically fraud displaying those demos as a way to trick users into buying this awful game.

    3) (MASSIVE SPOILERS ALERT-DO NOT CONTINUE READING UNLESS YOU WANT IT SPOILED BUT IT IS WORTH BEING SPOILED,)

The center of the universe ay? Wasn't that the whole point of the game to begin with? To get to the center? To finally find out what is there? Well guess what, there is NOTHING. YOU CAN'T EVEN GO THERE. It just makes you start the entire game over. All. the. way. over. again. Literally, you just try to go there, and it says you're going there, and then it zooms out all the way to the edge of a new galaxy for you to start all the way over again. You never find out whats in the center. The new galaxy's have nothing beneficial to them. They are completely pointless. This is the most disappointing game I have ever beheld.

THE ONLY GOOD THING IS THE SOUNDTRACK which can be found for free on youtube.
    Do no buy this game.

If you managed to ignore the hype, shady marketing practices and dont run into performance issues, this game might even be considered decent.

If you want a list of things that the game promised before release but then reneged on, you can check out the "Where's the NMS we were sold on?" thread on reddit - it provides a pretty decent summary of interviews and gameplay trailers where Sean Murray explicitly stated things which are definitely not in the game. The hype that was generated was entirely the fault of Hello Games, and they deserve the flak they are getting for letting people down.

As it stands, this game needs some serious patches to fix performance issues (which they are working on, so that's a good start) but what it really needed was a competent PR campaign and some honesty prior to launch. It did not need Sean Murray promising the universe and outright lying to people.

What a piece of trash. Overpriced, overhyped, runs terribly even though the game is ugly af. $60 for exploring planets that all look the same, just with different color palette and creatures that use the same assets just connected differently. 1 point only because the game has some really beautiful sights that are breathtaking.

The definition of disappointment. Procedurally generated bs by procedurally generated liar, Sean Murray. Just go watch the video called "New disappointment discovered : No Man's Sky". Literally every aspect of this game is shallow and an excellent example of why you NEVER pre-order. There is no redeeming feature in this game beyond an ok color palette and the sheer amount of humor I'm getting from watching it crash and burn under the weight of **** and plain incompetence.

The game is poorly executed, badly optimised, hollow with it's only redeeming feature being it's soundtrack and colour palette

Unfortunately, it is by now abundantly clear that this promise of getting to discover and explore a universe of planets will not be fulfilled. The algorithm that generates this universe simply failed at doing the one thing it was supposed to - a unimaginably large world was created, but one filled with nothing but complete boredom. Everything feels the same, and after having seen a lot of them I now feel confident in saying that no planet is worth exploring. Same animal- and plantlife, the same landscapes everywhere; the slight variations in color and form don't do anything to make a meaningful difference. If this core aspect would have delivered, that would have been enough for me, but alas, it did not.
Unfortunately, the core promise is not the only thing the game failed at delivering. Countless technical and design issues plague it at every corner, the movement is only bearable because of a bug, graphics are mostly ugly, the FoV is unplayably narrow unless you fix it outside of the game, gunplay is bad, spaceflight controls are *horrible*, inventory management is a hassle at best, crafting and gathering tedious.

So in the end what is one left with? Ambition, perhaps. But what does that actually count for when it never amounts to anything...?

I would have loved to write an review earlier - but when i got the game... it simply did not run. It crashed every time i fired it up ... and it just started to work with one of the most recent patches. But alas ... lets get to it.

No man's sky is of course ... a huge disappointment. There is no doubt about that. There were many features announced - and even promised ... that are not present in the final build. And not only that - from what the game mechanics suggest - they were never intended to be part of it.

So there is no "real simulation" of a universe - instead this game is build in a VERY conservative manner (like Freelancer) - with "pockets" of static space connected by a warp/loadscreen.

So - no - you cannot point at a little star/dot on the sky - enter your ship ... and fly there. The dot you see is nothing but a pixel on a skybox/starbox.

The lack of simulation runs deep in that game - nither flora - nor fauna is simulated. It is just randomized. Which in turn means that any planet or moon can basically be anything. You can have an icecold moon next to a scorching hot planet. But simulation aside ... it is also the gameplay that severely suffers.

The benefit of writing a late review is that a huge number of people have practically written any critizism before me.

The main thing (aside from the non existant simulation) is the total lack of "game"-play. Now i do not expect a game to always revolve around the player (like Mass Effect for example) or to be driven by violent acts or player decisions. But i do enjoy for player actions to have consequences - at least for the player.

    Summed up ...

    - Death in NMS is near to meaningless - at most it is a miniscule inconvenience
    - factions mean near to nothing. I gain positive faction status effects for stuff that should hardly if ever affect my affiliation
    - NPCs are not even trying to be alive. They are .. at the very best .. similar to renaissance automatrons, rooted in place, capable of minimal articulation.
    - The entire universe seems to be settled explored with outposts on every planet ... BUT .. i have yet to see a fully developed planet (cities, metropoli, satelites ... or in short .. real civilizations... even the ancient PC game "frontier" simulated class 2 civilizations and even class 3 civilizations - and all that on 2 3.5'' floppy discs)

Then there is my critizism of design choices...

NMS is a singleplayer game - that puts the player into a universe. The player is totally alone - there is no one else of the players race around at all.
I do fail to see the reason why there is no character customization and an option to switch to 3rd person view. Being a completely different person within an alien universe would increase the feeling of being "alone" ... while at the same time allowing the player to identify much more with whoever they play as. It would also allow the game to have customization options - unlockable, craftable or droppable. Players do like the option to "be different" in their games after all.
I can only consider this lack of customization a HUGE missed opportunity.

Whats left is a game that sadly offers less depths than Elite (no, not Elite Dangerous - i mean Elite .. the original), less skill than Cookie Clicker and simpler game mechanics than Spore.

But is it an entirely BAD game? ....

Maybe not - it is a very BASIC frame on which modders "might" build on ... IF Hello Games made it open source (yea - as if that would happen) or released some sort of creation kit. (also unlikely)

I like No Man’s Sky and was excited about its announcement, but the game has a lot room for improvement. Sadly, the game feels more like an Early Access game that should been price at $30, though I won’t argue against $20. Definitely, not worth $60 as the game is now. I hate to say it, but I would give this game in its current state a 3/10.

PROS: 1. Good Foundation 2. Language

I hate to say it, but I would give this game in its current state a 3/10.

    PROS:

    1. Good Foundation
    2. Language System (Especially being able to figure out a puzzle when you only have a few words to work with)
    3. Ships have “Some” Variety
    4. Can be relaxing at times (But also can be Very Frustrating)

    Cons:

    1. That ending, WTF. Really. No spoilers, but even after reading online what the ending was supposed to mean, still…..NO.
    2. Gameplay, or lack thereof: (Primarily, Mining and Scanning) Very Repetitive gameplay. You will have to do a lot of mining, and that’s even if you upgrade your multi tool to speed up the process, it is still a huge time sink. Scanning new species gets old and boring fast with a lot of creatures looking the same world to world or just having random parts thrown together. Just not much gameplay period and the game can get boring really fast.
    3. Puzzles lack variety, you soon learn the majority of the numbers puzzle at the consoles are just a simple shift the numbers to the left or right.
    4. NPCs. Npc never move, just always standing in the same spot or like at the space station ships will come in but alien npc never get out.
    5. Having to hold the button to do anything in the game, no simple click to sell or interact with something, you need to hold the button for a few seconds.
    6. Worlds quickly start to look the same
    7. Journey to the center takes way longer than it should for such a repetitive game.

Okay, launch day bugs, I get it, kinks need to be worked out. So I do a little Googling, only to find out that Sean Murray is now blaming the users for not having up to date drivers, or insufficient hardware. What the actual **** Seriously?

All right, so I'll wait a week or so, see what updates get pushed out, maybe things will run a little smoother. And they do! a *little*. I get 25-30 FPS instead of 15, great.

Guess I'll try and enjoy what I can. At this point, I'm aware that I'll likely never see another player, nor participate in large scale space battles. I have flown around for 12 hours, litterally discovering the same planet, with different colors, different colored plants (note, *different colored,* not actually any different), and slightly different wildlife. At about the 12 hour mark, I came upon something interesting. An "anomaly." Sweet! Something new! Maybe this is where things pick up. Long story short, I was able to enter a black hole. Neat! I can't wait to see what's on the other side. What was on the other side? A different colored galaxy.. with different colored planets.. with different color plants and.. yup, different colored wildlife.

I'm done. Biggest waste of $60 ever.

Shame on me for pre-ordering. But shame on Hello Games for entirely misrepresenting their product. And shame on Sean Murray for blaming me, the consumer, for their faulty product/launch.

The soundtrack is pretty decent though.

    - Bad framerate and stability issues
    - Randomly generated worlds gets monsters that makes no sense
    - There is not an objective to do besides "exploring"
    - Has no multiplayer
    - Graphics are underwhelming to say the least

I've played NMS for a decent amount of time and I can say that it has absolutely no depth whatsoever. It's fairly enjoyable for a couple of hours but after that it's just boring repetitive garbage. Also, the developer is a liar and I am never going to support any game that he is involved in ever again.

The base game wanted to be a open universe exploration game with some kind of story elements, but in the end all the ways never leads to some valuable moments. Its no spoiler the center of the galaxy only restarts the game with your current ship. The other route tells that you created a new star-system, but technically there are only 64bit different planets (9,223,372,036,854,775,807) the random generator will generate a unique planet for each one and you can not add there a planet created by you. Also there is no report of planet-systems named like "created by user" so its a nice story, but nothing more in this "multiplayer/singleplayer-multigame" experience.

The base building, teleportation and renting the ship with the option to build a base in it feels shoehorned into the mechanics of the game. Most ideas are done by other indie developer like starbound and subnautika already. Also this basebuilding breaks with the mechaniks of the core game. It was not developed to be a base building game the core mechanics are not changed.

For pacing the game there are to many grinding moments for just improving the grinding it self. In other games you grind to do some thing different. Example: Starbound. With the multitool you dig to improve the tool to grab liquids from the planets. Then you will grind to place wire and paint the placed blocks. In No Man's Sky you just grind to grind more. There is no target or improvement in your game and without these shift in mechanics there is no fun after 3 to 4 hours.

Spent a good few hours with it now and it does have that tiny bit of appeal that just wants to you keep going, just one more little discovery here and there before I leave the planet or even think about moving onto another system.

Runs just okay (I have fairly old hardware but not ancient) however for what it is I'd have expected better personally (I mean Ark: Survival evolved runs a lot better than this at twice the resolution lol) while being 10 times prettier and with probably 100 times more colours in its palette). It sure isn't going to win any princess awards but that isn't to say it's ugly but at best it's maybe the average girl you knew at school.

In playing it though I found it was a lot more involved than what I thought it would be in some areas while also not being very deep or as engaging as I had hoped for in others. The ships handle like crap forcing you upwards if you dare aim too high (no mofo, I don't wanna leave the planet just yet) and also preventing you from just hovering around at stand still when you're actually just wanting to scout specific areas on a planet (this works okay once in space though).

The inventory management is just pretty awful with UI that shifts beneath your movements (I'm using a mouse but I believe it's true of all control versions) and if you're comparing ships with large inventories (and then trying to move stuff across) it just cuts off a bunch on the sides. Another minor issue is that I constantly get a reminder to redeem my pre-order DLC for a ship that is far worse than the one I have now (I just didn't want any special bonuses at start you see).

Overall though I've enjoyed some bits and found that perhaps like others I had just gone in with unrealistic expectations. This would have been okay with it coming it at half of it's current asking price but at a full priced AAA game I feel it's just a pure cash grab primarily driven with Sony being at the back door (as usual) pushing it far more than it deserved to be.

The FOV settings don't actually give you the angle that you expect so instead you'll have to resort to editing one of the config files if you want anything that closely even resembles what should be standard on PC (i.e. I set mine at 125 which is probably closer to 90). Having to hold in your action button (left click) to change settings is also just stupid - I'm okay with this for the in game activation stuff but on the settings screen when you first start it's absolutely stupid.

The map just sucks too. So you move your mouse along to the path to highlight a direction and if you move too much before you know it it'll have jumped along to the next system again in that path (so very obviously created primarily with a controller in mind).

A neat sort of little trick I found was sprinting and then using the jetpack just before you run out of stamina...jetpack in bursts (while at the same speed that you were running at) to keep from getting to high and then just as you land toggle the sprint again. Still awfully slow if you've wondered too far from your ship and that's probably one of the things that helped for the boredom to set it quicker than what it should.

Blah blah blah I've gone on too long. It's okay to mess around with and maybe it'll get better later on but right now it's no where near worth the current asking price.

Multi-player... um... did I miss it somewhere?

What it looks like, is the dev team bit off more than they can chew. Seems they decided it would take too much to do this game as it was original portrayed, so they released a tech demo with a few bolted on game play elements.

Hell, this is so un-optimised it plays poorly on a 980Ti, and the longer you play, the worse the game FPS becomes. You have to restart every few hours else it becomes unplayable.

My advice is wait till its in a humble bundle or less than $10 on steam.

Firstly this upscaling 720p into 1080p graphic is absolutely horrendous. In regards to that, anti-aliasing option is simply not working, and being completely left off. I can’t endure those jaggy edges and blurry graphics. It can simply make you blind, even i feel like high after 1-2 hours session. Seriously there is something wrong about graphics apart of technical flaws. If not for the games like this (AAA priced ones!!) why do we buy GTX 1080 and pay £600 for that, right?

Second important thing needs to be addressed is that Hello Games decided to hire a QA team right after release…What about before release? Can’t you just test the game before release it! Isn't that more professional way to do it! I understand that low budget companies sometimes do not invest into it, instead they try to sort it out inside the company. However, if you charge AAA price to a game, perceptibly people expect some quality in it.

Everybody has already mentioned about technical problem, and some sort of troubleshooting so I skip that. Most of you have got literally 2-3 hours before a bed time after work, dinner, gym..etc . If those hours are very precious to you, i strongly recommend to not waste it with this game at its current stage! Otherwise, you force yourself to play it just to ease the pain of £39.99..

However, there are couple of things that i like in this game. if you are a Sci-fi fan like me that would be worth to chase the root of alien civilization by reading lores and following the routes of atlas guidance. So there is no story line but game pushes you to find out. I admit I like this hidden concept however it is still too hard to navigate in galaxy map due bad design and framerate drops. I also have some hopes that in future we will get some different generated planets like giant mountains , lava, gas clouds..etc, PVP battles, storyline, patches..etc . Hope, they somehow deliver it!

I hate that I have to give this game a 1 and I know that by most metrics it does not deserve that: it is functional. It is a game that is finished. But the problem is that the game we have is not the game we were promised.

The short version is this: No Man's Sky gets a 1 from me because of the disappointment factor. It is the single most disappointing video game experience I have ever had and it's entirely the producer's fault.

The hype began three years ago (same E3 that first teased Bloodborne if I recall correctly) and it looked amazing. It looked like Minecraft, Subnautica, Mass Effect, this sprawling survivor space adventure unlike anything we had ever experienced and what's more, it was advertised as such. There would be EVE like space interactions (we were told after all that this would be a multiplayer game) and I was excited. I followed the hype and was so excited for this game.

I pre-ordered it and on midnight of release for PC I installed it.

The first few minutes were troubling and it quickly turned devastating. There is nothing to do. You mine but cannot build much. You discover but cannot share with anyone (turns out Multiplayer does not exist). You learn alien words but the interactions with aliens are flat and uninspired. The most exciting thing that might happen is you accidentally shoot a sentinel: the dull and lifeless protectors... or something... of every planet in the universe.

What is so disappointing is how easy that would have been to correct. The set up for great plots are there: what are the sentinels? How are they everywhere? what's the deal with these aliens? What is Atlas? There is so much and yet the only hint of a plot is to continually slog away through procedurally generated planets until I guess you can reach the universe's core.

The only merit this game has is to drive home the stark, existential reality of space travel. That we are surrounded by such vast nothingness and I suppose in that way it's a moodily artistic commentary on life but not one that is worth 60 dollars. The price is borderline theft. This is not a triple A game and Hello games has a very long way to go before it can consider itself a triple A producer. This tremendous failure of a game (in that it has failed to deliver on any of its promise) will be an obstacle that they will need to work a very long time to overcome.

(PS, I love that I can check a box for spoilers. As if there's any story here to spoil at all)

Game gets boring and repetitive after just a few hours, missing lots of features which were promised to be there. The game itself doesn't deserve 0. I'm quite sure some people will find it entertaining, but I'll rate it 0 because of the false advertising and lies from developers, which I'm sure misled many people who bought it.

Expand

No Man's Sky breaks the record in falling short of the hype – which is an incredible achievement in the category of super ambitious space games. The huge universe is a repetitive, lifeless and meaningless place, no amount of random generated creatures can change that. The most unforgivable fail is making the spaceship such a pain to fly, which makes exploring the vast universe simply a chore. However, at its best the game is epic and many of the issues should be easy to fix, so this might not be the end of the journey after all. [Sept 2016]

It's partially broken, shallow, repetitive and aimless, but hang me, I still kind of love it. [Issue#255, p.56]

While some poorly designed systems and mechanics chip away at your patience, the feeling of flying seamlessly from space down to a peninsula you spotted from orbit never fails to enthrall. [Nov 2016, p.106]
