I will not address the launch issues with this game as they are/were temporary in nature.
    My assessment of the game:
    - Graphics - 9/10. This game looks simply stunning. Too bad they didn't invest more in the character designs though. - Combat - 6/10. It is ok but don't expect dark souls like gameplay. I find it quite laggy in this game. - Quests - 2/10. They are all pretty boring

    - Gathering/Crafting - 1/10. This is where the game fails for me. The amount of grinding needed to get your gathering skills up can be summarised in one word - painful. The crafting looks pretty cool but becomes quite boring after a while as you are just doing the same things over and over.

You know, I played this for maybe 15 hours, and I will never touch it again. A total waste of $50. So you're probably wondering why I'm giving it a 5. It's pretty simple -

The game itself is incredibly polished, I didn't see a single bug. Had no server problems on release. It hits all boxes on the MMO checklist. Yet for all of that, it's incredibly boring. It has nothing going

Yet for all of that, it's incredibly boring. It has nothing going on for it, is totally unoriginal, and once you've spent a dozen or so hours playing, you've probably seen everything there is to be seen. In fact, I can confidently say if you have EVER played another MMO in your life - you have no reason to play this game. It is as generic as generic gets. If you you looked up 'generic mmo' in the dictionary, it would be a picture of New World.

All in all, a very well made game with no glaring issues aside from the fact that it is a total snooze fest. A 5 for effort, if nothing else.

In short: this game is **** don't waste your time with it. But there are some positives about the game I would like to mention. Sandbox MMO is a cool idea, vaulting and movement are great overall. NW is also very social game and has proximity chat which I just love, that's how the MMOs should be designed in the first place, as massive multiplayer games, not single player. Another amazing thing about this game is the music system, it's basically a guitar hero minigame. Also graphics are overall really impressive for an MMO. And that's about it. Now the negatives. Leveling system is repetetive boring mess, gear progression is tedious RNG grind, combat system is terrible clunky garbage and that's a big problem because this game was supposed to be heavily PvP focused. Speaking about PvP, it's insanely gear focused and progression is terribly designed so you will be a punching bag for geared players until you'll get your own gear after countless hours of boring grind (no ELO or skill based matchmaking). Instanced PvE content is garbage and it's not on par with other MMOS, etc., etc. I could go on an on, but let's be real no one cares. Bottom line is: This game is popping right now on Steam because of the fresh servers but when new players realize what kind of game this is, they will just leave. This game has no future, don't waste your time with it boys. Expand

New World should be considered as an average MMORPG. The story seems ok, but it surrounded by a lot of fetching quests that gets boring really fast. It's dull to have a minimum of 5 peoples, and only get two. The fighting is pretty decent with special moves and good upgrades.

There was the items creation that was kind of fun. Getting a house is something, but you feel like it was an after though. The items for the house are difficult to create. So the Trade options serve has the main store. You can basically buy everything in it. So, what's the point of grinding ? Also the salvage option is ridiculous. It gives you repair parts and money, but no resources. So any jewel you put on salvage gear, is permanently lost. Graphically the game suffers from drawing distance being way too short. You have tons of clipping errors (try turning the camera very fast. Some UI glitches too. They did a winter update and manage to broke their own game. There is a lot of voice overs. They are pretty good. The music is quite good too. Some caverns and towns are extremely confusing to navigate. I wasn't sold on the idea of the fast travel. the way it is done and why some large areas are completely devoted of it, while some smaller ones are full of them. Why isn't there any means of transportation in this game, is a poor decision. The AI is really strange. I don't know if it bad or not, but you will nerve see an enemy flee when you are way stronger. I give it 65%. I got really bored after 36 hours, at level 40.

Really good fun to start, but then the grind grinds you. Much of the stuff happens client side, so there are game hacks and bugs that really kill the joy once you venture out into the meta-verse of gameplay.

    Not worth it.

The rewards were **** gear and frozen furniture... not anything all that exciting. 4. mounts: Honestly, I hate walking so damn much in this game. Without mounts the game drags on and gets boring. I found the game to be mediocre at best, nothing new in comparison to anything in the genre...the combat is clunky and too simple and the queue right now don´t help.

The combat feels clunky, the animation is strange when your hit confirm and when there are multiple people together melee feels horrible. The worst part for me tough is the generic monster that you see all the time...

Game looks great. The environment is pretty cool most of the time. The gathering/crafting is excellent and the combat (when it works) is "good". The structured pvp is decent but the open world pvp leaves much to be desired. Thats about all I have to say about the good stuff....

    CONS:
The questing is AWFUL and padded as all hell. ZERO writing effort. Again, ZERO heart into the questing and story!!! The enemies almost all look the same and there are a billion reused assets. Most of the towns look they same but the unique ones are pretty cool. Open world pvp is spotty. Its just people toggling it for 10% exp and constantly getting 1 shot or one shotting others. I wont complain about the bugs because they seem to be slowly ironing those out.

overall the game feels like it has a good base. The things they did right are good. However, they really missed the mark on world building, lore/story, any semblance of uniqueness at all etc. It just doesn't feel like the game has any heart. 286.6 hours in according to steam and Ive really just been forcing myself to play the last 150+ hours. Im just not having a good time.

If only Amazon put as much money into the game as they did paying off streamers to give away thousands of free copies to boost launch player and viewcounts we'd have something a little more than mediocrity posed as brilliance but alas

Shills on here will tell you to ignore valid criticism much like they told you to ignore asmongold when he rightly criticized aspects of the game, but then they themselves leave single sentence positive spam reviews most of which have absolutely nothing to do with the game itself. They post memes and one liners and have the audacity to moan about legitimate criticism in negative reviews, hmmm. Shills out in full force. Even worse are those pretending "queues" are this games only faults.

I played this game in beta, found it to be mediocre then, but decided to give the full release a chance, and it hasen't really improved at all. Forget the queue's, forget the crashing that's beside the point and anyone using that to cope about the negative reviews is missing the point, the game is just mediocre. What if you took ESO's format, mixed it with a little runescape, slapped Dragon Age Inquisition's dog crap combat onto it, created the most generic world you could create with the most generic concept you could create, took every early access survival game of the past 5 years and tossed it into a boiling pot that you left stewing on the stove unattended to. That's this game, a confused lot of conflicting concepts

The gameplay has got to be some of the jankiest garbage i've played in an MMO yet. It plays like a worse Eso, same two weapon switching and everything only with more uninspired abilities. For some strange reason they opted to imitate Dragon Age inquisition, same auto-attack, design philosophy and all. What a strange choice, the worst installment of the franchise, that's the one you want to be like, interesting. Gone is the fun combat and fluidity you've seen in WoW or FFXIV, no we're Dragon Age Inquisition now with even less abilities. I'm sorry but I read one review here calling New World's combat complex and I just had to chuckle, it is by far the most casual combat in a mainstream MMO, bar none, it's just serviceable. Hell even ESO does combat better and that's saying a lot because that's one of the things ESO doesn't nail that well. You can tell the developers have no idea what they're doing, are very inexperienced and just looked at a bunch of different concepts from other games and copy pasted them horribly.

I've seen some people raving about crafting in this game, it's nothing we haven't seen before you collect the material by pressing E, you craft it just like that, all automated. This is something even most standard single player titles do. Far Cry comes to mind, there's many others, it's a staple in video games now. It's very streamlined for an MMO. Whereas in other competitor mmos one of them being FFXIV you have entire classes and skills and items hell even side content and mini games and activities dedicated to crafting. Now I don't want to compare games so much, but when you're raving about certain aspects of a game, atleast they should be distinct, unique, different from everything else enough to warrant such ravings, and it's just not. Compared to other MMO's in this genre, the crafting is bare bones.

The questing? NON-EXISTENT, well it exist, you'll just wish it hadn't. You wanted to copy the ESO format, you could have at least taken some pointers on their questing. It's very clear to anyone that they slapped these quest on last minute because people complained. It is so obvious.

The boss fights? just as janky as you would expect them to be from an already janky combat system. It gives you insight on just how the endgame for this game will be, a janky cluster F, but i'm sure you've already witnessed this whenever you saw 40+ players farming a tree. Pure jank orgy. The enemy variety? there isn't much, you fight zombies, and zombies, and zombies and more zombies even at higher levels this does not change. For a game called New World, everything in it from the terrain to the enemies seem very old and uninspired.

I wanted to have hope in this game, but here we have another soulless cash grab. Looking for a good MMO instead I got a recycled early access survival game I played in multiple incarnations before. What is it with these devs and especially from the West as of late and being devoid of any and all creativity. Copy paste, sell the same game.

5/10 the game atleast looks shiny, but a better game in this format exist already, it's called Eso, and i'm quite ashamed I spent $40 just to play a lesser Eso.

After 15 years of WOW, I tried a new game. It's fresh, modern (compared to WOW ofc which is way outdated) , very fun to farm and craft. At first I didn't like the idea of the "god of war" playstyle but now I think this is how MMOs should be from now on. I would love some more spells and hotkeys but that's the way it is.

I didn't and don't have high expectations from this so I guess I will enjoy it. Start with low expectations and move on.
About the Queues : Yes it's unacceptable. I really didn't have a problem because I remote log my PC while I'm at work 3 hours before I come home. So when I get home it's about to login. But it's unacceptable to having paid for a game and not be able to play it. Imagine all the people that come home from work, wanna chill with the game they bought and they have to wait for 3 to 4 hours. And they also cannot refund it because waiting in Queue surpasses the 2 hour threshold needed for a game to not be refundable. I don't know about consumer rights and stuff but I guess this is against a law or something and could sue the company. But who's gonna sue Amazon lol
The dungeons : Really laggy and bugged. Attacks not registering 50-70% of the time, which is really bad for a game. Huge issue. If a SINGLE attack or spell in World of Warcraft didn't register, people would go nuts in the forums. This is huge.
Sound : Sound is very good. Good sound effects. Music just decent.
Graphics : Not something great, but acceptable.
The game has potential, it has many bugs and flaws, but I hope it will be fixed a lot from time to time. ( i hope) .

Edit: I have now reached lvl 60 and I have to say... it's not worth it. Craft is a huge GRIND, leveling is boring because all you do is run around, doing the same quests, at the same places, full of bugs (some of them gamebreaking), almost no PvE content (I don't know about PvP as I don't care about it), ugly gear (even the skins sold at the store) and the population has dropped 70% or more from day one. The crafting is cool and I suspect it feels extra grindy because you can basically level all your professions to max in the starting area. I have no idea why they didn’t area gait this.
The combat is ok, there aren’t many weapons with most people not using dex (ranged) builds because of manual aiming.
I used sword/board•life staff and found that when I came to the first dungeon, I could go tank/healer/dps. I had to craft separate armours but it was still a good decision.
Haven’t touched pvp yet so can’t comment first hand.
Pve questing is what you’d expect, nothing original there.
Gold is scarce and there’s loads plenty of flipping going on via the trading post, which is a shame.

    Lorewise it's pretty weak.

Basically they made everything they could to make you level up slowly, probably to shadow the fact that it has really few end game content. The PvE content is pretty much a joke, so it only has a few PvP BG, city wars and then open world PvP (flag based).

Really boring game with too few skills and a small amount of enemy variety (zombie, wolves, bears)

New World came out for me during a time where I really needed a game to sink time into. It was almost the perfect game to come out for me. That being said I am not blind to it's flaws.

New World is at it's core a very simple PVP focused MMO. It's gathering and crafting elements work fine enough to get the job done. It's combat system scratches the build crafting itch, but doesn't fulfill it. It's questing system is more or less just a way to dump XP and Gold on the player. But in the end I find it to be an alright game.

First let's dive into the gathering and crafting system. The max level for both systems is 200, with gathering getting new things to gather and gathering speeds/luck with it's levels, and crafting getting new recipes, additional materials added when crafting, and item level boosts with it's levels. The gathering system is fine, although some of it's features like luck are not explained in game well enough. On the other hand the crafting system has it's flaws. Crafted gear while leveling is easily replaced by random drops or even PVP gear, and it just doesn't hold it's own. Each new material requires the previous material and a refining material. Meaning that say you want to craft Starmetal (tier 3 ingot) you need to farm Iron and Flux to make Steel, then farm Starmetal and Flux to make Starmetal. The last basic ingot (Orichalcum) needs 21 Iron Ingots and 9 Flux to make 1 ingot. Crafting is just one giant grind with lack of a pay off. I hope they revamp it, but I have little hopes.

Combat in the game is very simple. You have 2 weapons each with 3 skills. Weapon skills that create buffs do not last when you swap weapons. Other than those 6 skills you have various passives and enhancements to those skills both in the skill tree and perks on equipment. There is also a dodge, light attack, heavy attack, and a block. That is your entire tool kit when it comes to combat. You can also use potions for healing, or special effects. There is food that can buff stats or heal. And finally there are combat items that serve basically no purpose since they last so little that you get almost no benefit from them. For example there is an item that buffs your attack for 3 seconds, but there is a consume time. So trying to use it would go something like this: Block incoming attack, consume item, block the incoming attack, item wears off. In PVE the simple combat and mechanics take away from the enjoyment making it essentially a hack and slash with less combos. In PVP however the simple kits work very well making feel almost more like For Honor (much less though) than usual MMO PVP.

I'll touch on the story here...there's basically none. There is the shell of a story, but it isn't interesting and you'll most likely skip through it like everyone else. Sums up into this: Aeternum is a mysterious island with vast power, island is dangerous can corrupts all life it touches, you fight the corruption. This game was obviously design to be a PVP only game, but was turned into a mixture of PVP and PVE mid to late way through development. The PVP is flushed out miles a head of the none PVP elements.

Finally I will touch on bugs and errors. The server issues that most negative reviews touch on were never a problem with me. I started on launch day making sure to choose a low population server. During peak times I maybe have a 100 person queue that lasts 5 minutes tops. This game is heavily pushed on Twitch, so if you are expecting to play on a server with your favourite streamer expect a queue. The game isn't missing a swimming animation, it just doesn't have swimming. Your character sinks to the bottom of water and you have about 10 seconds to get out or else you die. There is server desynch which causes some gathering nodes to not despawn after harvesting, so when you try to harvest those you the game doesn't let you. Some equipment have the wrong models so they appear different than their icons. Climbing on mountains not intended to be climbed on can result in you clipping through the world. In the end all the bugs I encountered didn't make the game unplayable and are by far better than some other AAA games that we have gotten recently.

In the end I would give New World a 6.5. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it provides a fun experience without a monthly fee, or outlandish microtransactions. It isn't perfect by any means, and there are much better MMOs out there, but if you are looking for a taste of MMO this can fill your need.

Amazon... You can do better than this. That massive queue is taking all the fun of the game.

However, the game has various QoL issues that needs to be addressed and a proper goal to be set for the players to work upon. Right now it is mostly about simply levelling our characters, preferred weapons, farming for resources and making gears or other craft-able items (including house items) for general purposes. In terms of PVE, there's expeditions and corrupted enemy in the open world and in PVP there's territory control for faction vs faction and guild or opt-in duelling. As of yet; there's no proper endgame activity in sight. Hopefully, that will change soon. Expand

They acted like I was getting all this great stuff when I pre-ordered, but I was not. They give you some new skins, but they are constrained. I thought I would get much more by being a part of the beta testing. I will also state that New World is becoming less popular as time goes on and not the other way around. Less and fewer people play this game. Also, during busy server time, I have to lower my graphics settings to remove game stutter. I think gameplay could get old, too, as New World is a borderline hack and slash game. I think the graphics are beautiful in this game and the design is well made. I like the Company system and faction system. This game is inexpensive compared to WoW or UO, which can run into the thousands if played for years. This game has a down payment, which allows it to include lower SES players than other MMORPGs. The market system is rewarding and straightforward. Resource gathering is pleasant, and the storyline is pretty good for an MMORPG. As for character development, there is no ceiling, which is interesting. Even after one maxes out their skills, there is a lot to do.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention my input latency is unbelievable with this game. I get from 100 - 112 ms, and Ultima Online allowed me about half that amount, 50-70 ms. This considerable lag makes any chance of excelling in PvP obsolete. This point brings my review down to 8/10, still positive because there are many solo things someone can do in the game or PvE.

The game supports gamers using Discord and makes ample opportunity to socially network with friends, which only enriches the gaming experience. NW supports the opportunity to use Discord through the development and maintenance of a Company, which is a guild. I found a guild that links to Discord, and there is much social input here, making the game a lot more fun. So, it is nice that NW supports this kind of connection through Companies. Because of NW's support, I leave my review one step higher, a 9/10.

    UPDATE
I have heard gossip that this game's markets are rigged and easily cheated by players. Seeing that this is a very important aspect of the game, I cannot risk it and take down my rating to a 7/10.

Coming back to this game as a day 1 player has been enjoyable for me. As a PvEer I'm not able to speak to some others mixed opinions on the PvP aspect of the game, but I can tell you that if you enjoy resource gathering and crafting in a fantasy MMO then this game is worth at least taking a look at. An MMORPG with great potential - but there’s so much work to be done. It is, however, already highly addictive for those who are patient and forgiving.

New World is an mmo that could be straight out of 2010. It hardly adds any new ideas to the genre and therefore feels dated in content. The faction system offers interesting possibilities for wars between players, but is not yet balanced. New World demands a lot of time from its players, but does not actually give anything in return that we have not seen before. Graphically, everything is fine, and although the game has microtransactions, they are only of a cosmetic nature. There is no subscription: for the entrance fee, the entire base game is open to you.

New World is such a large MMO that we will have to spend our time in the vast world of Aethernum. While some mechanics or functionalities don't have much of a place nowadays, it has other things that seem to me to be genuine and cutting edge in terms of massively multiplayer online development.
