Game's population has greatly diminished now in Nov 2021, more than half of the playerbase. This game needs the very minimum of six months to a year of further development time if the developers aren't intentionally sinking it via very strange counter-productive patches, but I'm now not doubting that this is due to become a repeat of Elder Scrolls Online. The severity of the condition of this game is without question in disaster territory despite the initial popularity and huge promise it had. I genuinely don't think there will be permanent meaningful changes to this game as many of the issues seem to be fundamentally ingrained like copy/paste maps and areas, all enemies are replicated models. It is one extreme game-breaking problem after another, either being discovered or formed. The invulnerability problem and the development circumstances surrounding it is really bad on AGS' behalf as there is a proven inability to foresee a client-based problem that is reportedly very basic in game development and it seems similar problems will occur in the future. There is no meaningful objective to the game or reason to level and build your character like a normal MMO. Questing is an absolute dire experience throughout all progress. Cross the whole map with normal movement speed > kill under-levelled enemies or collect things > cross the map > repeat. The mechanically good crafting system feels nearly completely pointless. You can spend several hours gathering materials and levelling the various crafting skills to create something yourself only for it to be peanuts in the auction house equivalent (trading station). This system is now completely rebroken as of 27th October and has worsened. I spent hours attempting to be skilled enough in level to make a tool myself, never to reach it with such low material yield and then find that you can purchase it for next to nothing. Expand

In the 5-6 hours I have played so far: the game emulates an ax murderer fantasy.

The combat system in this game seems weak. I'm only at the start so maybe it picks up. The game was advertised as having one class. I was thinking path of exile sort of combat skills. As an example in New World you get to drop one lousy totem on a 10 second cooldown that shoots woopty-de-do frost bolts

The game was advertised as having one class. I was thinking path of exile sort of combat skills. As an example in New World you get to drop one lousy totem on a 10 second cooldown that shoots woopty-de-do frost bolts and you have to have a certain weapon equipped to do this. In PoE you can use all sorts of totems that do all sorts of stuff. Maybe later in the game you get gems or something that modify effects and add more depth to theory crafting? Right now it(combat) is super basic. Some of the skills on cooldown are normal attacks that do more damage?

The aimed throw hatchet passive imo gives enough mid-range combat dynamic with resource management to make the game's combat fun.

MMO progression? At this stage I couldn't tell you what my character level is. I can say I have enough points in spear & hatchet to use all their activation skills. I think I have two active skills unlocked in swords and shield. I couldn't say what my crafting levels are. I can say I have yet to find a plant that gives me fibers to craft clothes(even though I go to the areas indicated on the map under resource area locations (turns out the starting level area consists of 3 territories and the one you begin in is resource scarce)). I don't know when progression kicks in but it is typically a thing in mmos to unlock new environs or skills or something that one would look forward to.

It doesn't look like "battlegrounds" begin until the level cap. And I imagine if I get there I will have to go even further to get passable gear. In most theme park mmos it is a part of leveling progression and in GW2 you can go into battlegrounds with a level capped/gear capped character right away.

27 hours in: wayyyyyy to much farming. If I want a better pointy stick I have to farm for my life.

48 hours in: this game feels like a court-martial simulation. This notion is premised on the poor integration between the different parts of the game.

You go to this designated area to pound rocks for a while to level rock pounding and what you use the pounded rocks for. You go to the designated area to thresh plants for a while to level plant threshing and whatever use the threshed plants for. You can go pretty much anywhere to level tree pounding and whatever you used the pounded trees for. Only skinning makes sense since you do it anyway while questing.

To quest you go forced march to designated quest area and perform solo combat maneuvers then force march back to quest drop off location(this is pretty common in mmos except for the forced march part).

To dungeon delve you have to solicit in chat instead of queueing in a dungeon finder while reading a book or whatever else it is you do. This doesn't so much follow the court-martial theme but it's still pretty shoddy.

And this is a court-martial themed game at least until you hit the level cap and do real combat?

The game dies at around level 30. Crafting levels are out of sync with drops. Questing becomes laborious. Crafting gatherables become background stuff. If this game were shampoo your scalp would probably look like Jeff Bezos's. This is worse than many Korean mmos.

You can't really make a build video from this game, because there are only 6 skills per weapon and you basically HAVE to run certain ones in order to play the game, so youtube monetization is shot.

There's a lot of land and very little to do. But you'll say: "what about all the crafting progression?" Yes, such progression. You can either set your character up to waste a minute at a time banging on rocks, or banging on trees, or standing in front of plants.

There is no strategy whatsoever in dungeon play. You have a healer, you have a tank, and you have DPS. Sort of. The healer kites things everyone else just spams whatever moves they have available at the boss. You can't even have a rotation because you only have 3 skills per weapon and they're all on 10+ second cooldowns.

The game advertises siege combat, but out of a 2000 player server, only 100 can play per day per territory, and participants are chosen by other players. So basically, thanks for the money suckers, and also **** you.

The storyline is non-existent on multiple levels. First, there's no real storyline. Like, at all. NPCs don't speak to you, (because they largely do not exist outside of major towns), and you can't speak to them unless they have a quest marker above their heads. It's as immersive as an empty tub. You get a new "storyline" mission every 5 levels to unlock a new gear slot and otherwise just wander from town to town to acquire quests to visit villages which have no human life and kill poop-flinging zombies.

Oh, and you will spend the vast majority of your time gathering resources for the purpose of throwing it down a ****ing hole at the town bounty board to gather a smidgen of XP.

Want to play that dungeon? You have to grind just to create the key to enter it. Because a game with no storyline centered around the mindless gathering of materials for the purpose of throwing it away needs MORE grinding.

Later, a lot of grind awaits us, a lot of monstrous and boring quests as well as bugs and crashes that make us return to the beautiful queue.

Lack of Russian localization. There is not so much textual information in the game, but nevertheless we do not have at least a Russian translation on release. God, the game doesn't even support the Cyrillic alphabet in the game chat! Russian-speaking players are forced to communicate in transliteration.
Very poor character editor. Okay, in general I don't mind creating a character using pre-made face and body presets. But how terrible they are in this game ... How miserable are the face presets, hair textures .. What can we say, when the hair textures do not always fit the character model correctly. It all looks like in some cheap Korean MMORPG. Amazon, is this okay? You certainly don't expect this from a European project in this genre, especially from a renowned company.
Bad, very bad. What we got at the release still looks damp, and I can't call it any other way than "hack-work". At this point in time, I do not recommend buying this game.

What an amateur game. There is nothing interesting, new, or well done in New World. It is a generic MMO with a generic name. You will fight skeletons and boars. There is less than nothing to character creation, the armor is boring, and everyone looks the same. The skill trees are laughably small with a handful of usable abilities and a few mostly useless passives.

Movement feels like you are standing in taffy. There is a dodge button you are supposed to use, but it only hops you like two inches and half the time you are locked into some animation and cant even use it.

Ranged is a joke right now as enemy AI pathing is broken for many mobs standing at the top of stairs, and hitting moving targets is subject to lag jank.

    Also, The community IS TOXIC.
There is this quest to kill this tough bear and skin it. I managed to solo it with a bow and some rando ran right past me and skinned my kill the moment I fired the last shot. Now I couldn’t finish the quest and the mob would take who knows how long to respawn.
This isn’t fun. That type of helpless griefing with no possible way to prevent it is horrible game design.

This whole generic mess has one purpose. Greif you. Your bank is unique per city. The auction house is the only way to make money and it is also unique per city. If everyone is in a different town, none of your hard work matters as no one buys your crafted wares. And it costs money to list items. Fast travel is discouraged as it costs a ton of a rare resource and there are no mounts in the game. All of this exacerbates the unique bank and auction house problems.

It is staggering how badly designed and just uncreative “New World” is.
Bland, boring, and soulless. Your time, sanity, and money is better spent elsewhere.

So: How should I rate this?
But first here some points from the time I played it approx. 20h and 21 Levels:
+ Really good graphics for a MMORPG
+ Good skill system w/o classes. You can skill and reskill however you want.
+ Skilling also uses Armor, which changes specific Stats. This gives more flexibility
+ Good variety of weapons for different playstyles.

    - In the beginning really repetitive
    - a few types of quest which are always the same
    - Loot chests
    - Kill x Mobs
    - Harvest Materials
    That's mostly it.
    - In your faction, you can select between 3 PvE and 3 PvP Quests. After completion, you get new PvE Quest but not new PVP Quest. They stay the same. Since release, it's the same 3 quests. I did these around 15 times now and this gets really boring.

I can't say anything about the Faction-War-Aspect and the battles over the areas.

So, how to rate this? Without the Server problems, I would give this game 6-7 for being a good but repetitive MMORPG which makes fun when played with other people. But even when I'm in the lucky position to have the possibility to login in the early morning when the queues are empty, I really can't keep this out. And seeing people who took vacation for release-week and only wait for many hours just to not even being able to join in the end is absolute **** At the actual state of the game, I can't give it more than a 4.

Queues, long long long long waiting times to get onto the server. Imagine you wait 1,5-2 hours to get into the server, you play for 2 hours and then go to walk the dog. You get disconnected for inactivity. You come back to another 3 hours!! waiting time. Anticipated the game so much, but it just seems unnecessary unfair.

Probably the worst purchase of the year for me, its for sure not worth the $50.

Questing is just the worst to date for any mmo ive ever played and has you running from 1 end of the map to another for a few wolves then you have to make that slog back again. The Elite named quests are just as bad. The combat is clunky old and poorly executed its a very poor cousin to GW2's combat

Crafting was very basic and not that indepth was lead to believe it would rival ffxiv's it was nothing like that system at all. The random stat generation felt super bad.

Overall for the money spent on development this fell far short of what it was stating it would deliver it doesnt feel or play like an mmo at all and would find it hard to play this any longer than a month tops it offers little to no pve content and that is quite evident in how it plays. This is a game id wait till is on sale for $5 because thats about all they spent on the servers.

The AI is dull, the Skinner-box crafting is insulting to intelligence, most quests devolve into long distance fetch or kill quests. They are all the same in one way or the other. Downtime is the king of your experience, as the game actively seeks to make you waste your time going from one side of the map to the other. Now, games are meant to pass the time, but not by running around getting nothing done in them.
The servers have no reason to be so miserably capped or have such insane weight times. this is Amazon, the owner of the largest server farm in the world.
Amazon also failed to deliver on polish. There are games made by indie companies with more depth, polish and overall value to be had, and they don't cost $40. They don't even cost more than $15 in most cases

New World is an mmo that could be straight out of 2010. It hardly adds any new ideas to the genre and therefore feels dated in content. The faction system offers interesting possibilities for wars between players, but is not yet balanced. New World demands a lot of time from its players, but does not actually give anything in return that we have not seen before. Graphically, everything is fine, and although the game has microtransactions, they are only of a cosmetic nature. There is no subscription: for the entrance fee, the entire base game is open to you.

New World is such a large MMO that we will have to spend our time in the vast world of Aethernum. While some mechanics or functionalities don't have much of a place nowadays, it has other things that seem to me to be genuine and cutting edge in terms of massively multiplayer online development.
