    Full of bugs, high towers difficulty to make you spend more money, only 3 slots to add new moves (why not include them all and have a larger move park?). For me Mortal Kombat died with this chapter, I will never buy it again, you do the same.

    A fighting game that focuses on grind and consumables to force the player to play deserves a 0. They fkd the Krypt by making placement random so you have to waste currency trying to find items for the character you want, instead of just getting them and going back to playing/learning the game.

    Alright, first of all I want to say is "GET WOKE GO BROKE" just for the sake of mocking Jax's quote at the end of the game.

    Secondly, if it's not the stupid developer decisions regarding the story that'll make you avoid this game, then it'll be the microtransactions, the game is full of it.     These guys completed the storyline and restarted it, just like in Futurama! Good lord! This is simply brilliant! The mechanics of the fights were as gorgeous as they were. Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting only slow unlocking of skins. In general, the game is a masterpiece!

    The campaign has more weight, narrative drive and spectacle than MK:X. In general the main campaign is by far better than I was expecting. Still a Hollywood-esque experience but with enough plot points and variations on old tropes in the franchise to have kept me engaged until the end. Additionally, aside from exposing you to new characters which I found was surprisingly good at landing a new kombatant into my character pool. I fondly remember getting my hands on kotal kahn and destroying everyone because his move-set just... Sort of clicked.

    The classic game modes make a return in all their splendor and glory, and after beating my first tower with Kollector I realised the individual dialogues are nicely fleshed out and satisfying to beat the last (and reasonably tough) opponent guarding the ending. Now... Onto the bad...

    The microtransactions in this game are very greedy. The customisation for each character is more extensive than ever and as a result the game forces many awesome weapon and character skins behind (now patched to be more reasonable) a grind or a plethora of premium currencies to "augment" your favourite touches to an already impressively beautiful character design. This is just .. disappointing but the gameplay more than makes up for it. It's such a fun feeling game I can get through the grind to unlock the skins for my favourite kombatants as I master my mains. But lastly... And more insidiously are the konsumables.

    Now as I understand it, by winning in towers and other fun classic challenges in the konquer game mode, as well as leveling up, gets you consumables in the form of actual in game advantage. From healing potions to special moves from other fighters... This is added to milk players that are getting frustrated with the games difficulty. Now there's both wrong with needing a hand to improve but there has to be a better way than microtransaction based konsumables that a bad player would not be able to acquire easily otherwise (as mentioned previously you must beat towers to actually get those). They can completely trivialise the fight and is by far the most hollow aspect of the game. Add a system to promote practice, learning to chain kombos, that some kombos are better than others at certain ranges, to learn multiple characters and using special moves to greater effect than simply spamming. This game's combat is the best it's ever been! It's the most deep also! So why leave a way to cheese the game? You can even get a konsumable to just flat out skip a fight. There has to be a better way to promote not so good players from growing in skill... And not like this.

    Since people barrage this masterclass game with 0's and extremely low scores it's only fitting I give it an obscenely high score. The game as it stands is an 8/10 if not 9/10 but the konsumables, grinding for awesome customisation and more greed brings it down.

    Overall, best MK thus far. Thoroughly enjoying myself with this one.    … Expand

MK11 is trying it's very best to force you to spend money, and all the items would be at least several thousand dollars, and that is if you could just straight up buy them, since you need to gamble to get most things.

    But the saddest thing for me is that it's always online. This basically means that if WB/NRS stop making huge amounts of money, or when they are ready to make you buy a new version and all the DLC again, then they will shut down the servers and you will be unable to play the product you paid for, which is BS. MK 1 will be playable 30 years after release, but MK 11 being a game as a "service" will be unplayable forever in 5-10 or sooner.

    This is a good fighting game that is packaged as a free to play game, full of all the psychological pressuring found in Fortnite or a mobile game, and then sold full price when the developers assured us it wouldn't contain lootboxes.    … Expand

    The gameplay and graphics are great for the story/local/online fights and standard towers. However the towers of time and the microtransactions are a joke. The towers of time are way way too difficult, to the point of being no fun at all unlike the ones in MK10 and Injustice 2 those rocked, not sure how they messed this up in this one but they managed to.     On the other hand, the servers have constant errors, and even when playing offline modes, an error occurs and it asks to restart the game. I am very disappointed with MK11. Urgent WB and Netherrealm must take action on the matter and improve the internal economy of the game and correct errors in the servers.    … Expand

    MK has been a long and illustrious series spanning decades however in recent years the tarnish has been growing, and now we have a full blown $60 that plays quite similar to a Mobile Game, I honestly feel this isn't the developers fault but most likely Warner Bros being the bloodsuckers that they are.

    Another issue is the ever increasing censorship, the interesting and sexy costumes being covered up more and more, because certain PC whiny SJW groups complain, enough~ we don't care about you or your 'safe spaces' go troll someone else with your politically correct ideologies, far too many developers are caving into SJWs these days, and its atrocious.

    We all know that fan favorite characters that are missing from the roster are not 'actually' missing, but paid DLC to come at a later date, let's not kid ourselves here - I'm willing to bet good money that if it wasn't for the already significant outrage that Mileena would show up in the store for $10 at some point or a free unlock if you're willing to spend 50+ hours of grind to unlock.    … Expand

This time around Sonya’s old crusty and Skarlet is in a Burqa. What happen to fan service. The new time lord is even shirtless crushing people with his sand hammers, but God forbid any female    Burqa kombat!

    The best MK in history. Best graphics, best gameplay and overall the best MK game ever. There will be DLC's but they are not pay to win. Most of cosmetics is unlock able only by playing and you can not buy all looks. For me it does not matter how much skins are in game, however it would be nice to have more standard skins.

    cons: *microtransactions (this makes a 0 rating for me,alone) *some random fps drops especially in character selection menu *random game crashes (returning to windows without any notification) *30fps locked krypt *unsuitable character for Mortal Kombat - Centrion ( i would say Cassie,Jacqui,Skarlet and    I would give 9/10 to core game,but overall there are lots of negatives imo,

    A 6/10 for now, as performance on PC is all over the place with some scenes rendered at my refresh rate(144hz) and others jumping between 30 and 60, with a ton of weird graphical issues due to motionblur(I assume). This is also not to mention a ton of bugs and crashes, as within the first 10hrs of me playing, the game crashed 4 times.

    I would give it a 10 if it wasn't for the terrible optimization and desync problems that the game has right now, in terms of gameplay and mechanics is awesome and it has a lot of gamemodes, but this problems are driving me mad sometimes, yesterday for example i couldn't play online...

Then I decided I    MK 11 on PC is a let down, but it's not beyond redemption. This review is going to primarily focus on PC performance and variations since I think the flaws in the games progression system have been well defined.

    Right when I booted up MK 11 I let the game optimize itself for my machine (i7 8700, gtx 1080, and 16 GB of RAM plenty of resources for what this game asks). Then I decided I would go to practice mode and see what sub zero was all about this time around.

    That's when I noticed that whenever this game loads something it wrecks my computer's fans. Story, challenge towers, stage select, character select, ranked matches, you name it and my pc just wasn't having it. I don't have any other games that do this unless I unlock the framerate and this game runs at 60 so I have no idea what's going on there. Sounds like there are some optimizations needed in that area. There are also some weird issues with the menus not taking controller inputs and some crashes that happen in the 'kustomization' screen that are really upsetting

    When I started the story I noticed that the game switches to 30 fps to show cutscenes which would be fine normally, but in this game the anti aliasing is broken in 30 fps so there's heavy artifacting all over the place. When it does switch back to 60 the transition is rough.

    During gameplay the game runs okay I suppose, but it's definitely dropping frames and some annoying hiccups appear whenever the game talks to the server which brings me to my next complaint

    MK 11 is always online for single player content so you'll frequently see a 'syncing' dialog that is both annoying and immersion breaking. Seeing this message after every single player victory just drives home the fact that this is a live service more than a fighting game in its current state.

    As far as the gameplay is concerned, I'm generally happy with the systems, movement, and combo structure on display here. The problem that I haven't really seen highlighted in mainstream reviews is the way variations work. They are bad...like really bad. You can create your own version of a character from a menu of available moves, BUT if you want to play competitively there are only TWO variations that you can use. Here's the crazy part. YOU HAVE TO CREATE THOSE VARIATIONS YOURSELF if you want to practice with them. Let me outline what that experience is like:

    First, you go to the kustomize screen and listen to your CPU fan sound like a jet engine while you pick your character. Next, you hope the game doesn't crash while you navigate the menu to put your variation together. Following that, you select 'abilities' and then use your mouse to select 'use a preset' because the X button the screen is asking you to press doesn't work. Okay still with me? Now you scroll down the list and select one of two variations with a trophy icon next to it, these are the 'tournament variations' for the character that are permissible for use in ranked play. Now you press A, the game lags up for a second, and shows a thumbnail that represents the new variation and it's a cut off picture of your character because the photo feature doesn't work.     Certain stages are not well-optimized, leading to FPS drop.

    Story mode dialogue can fall out of sync, with character speaking too late or too early for lip sync.

    V-sync (possibly other options) can create a strange, 'slow motion' effect in gameplay. (some fights in certain stages are in slow motion while others seem almost twice as fast.)

    Server issues seem exacerbated on PC, or at least are reported more often.

    No PS4-style prompts (mixed, some have it, some don't seem able to get them). Go to your steam controller settings and turn off "playstation configuration support". If that option is on game sees it as an xbox controller, when it's disabled it should show ps4 buttons.

    Audio is too quiet and not balanced correctly for some.

    Stuff doesn't unlock right, particularly story mode unlocks.

    PC Krypt seems to run way worse and look worse than console Krypt.

    Pinned combos for player 2 in a private match show the keyboard commands despite using a controller

    Online playing players often desync when they win and get to the Finish Him screen

    "lost connection to the server" or "There's an issue with the servers. Please restart the game." This happens in Story, Tutorial, the Krypt, Versus - happens to some people.

    trying to advance deep into infinite towers will almost always result in the game eventually crashing.

    When you have multiple rewards in Notifications, you can get only 1. Others will disappear.

    When you go into the kustomisation menu you cannot press square / x to look at the preset variations and access the tournament variations as indicated, you need to instead use your mouse to click on the use preset button.

    Playing in a room with my friend we both couldn’t have up our tagged moves, if your health bar was in the right no matter what controller you had in it would always be the keyboard inputs, which was kind of annoying cause we are trying to learn characters.

    If you host a private match and the host wins the match will give you a desync error and kick you back to the main menu. Only fix for this not happening is to not win as the host.

    The custom variation miniature are also bugged in 2k and 4k resolution.

    People experiencing crashes also when they change gear. (kustomizing characters)

    No Ultrawide monitor support for UI, Menus, and Krypt. HDR- The chapter title overlay that appears during cutscenes does not disappear until the cutscene is over. HDR - Pausing during a cutscene, then unpausing, results in a black screen with only audio playing. Video returns when the match begins. With HDR mode enabled, the cutscene before facing Kronika in the Klassic Towers doesn't play and all you get is audio over a black screen. Using wireless Xbox One S controller, pressing Y registers as Y+X, X registers as X+A and A registers as A+Y. This causes that for example, pressing A on the main menu opens the EULA (assigned to Y). The same bug was present in Injustice 2, and requires editing a .ini file, or connecting the controller via USB cable. The Krypt sometimes crashes to the main menu saying "There was an issue with the server. Please restart the game." When opening chests in the Krypt, sometimes the contents screen takes longer to open, and as the spiders still move while you're opening them, they kill you while you're stuck there. Also in the Krypt, in the room where the Kytinn Queen is, the spiders can't reach the corners, so if you stand in a corner, the spiders just stand still until you come out or kill them. While riding on the elevator that connects the courtyard and Goro's lair, the lighting goes crazy, as if the scene was lit by lightning. I mostly play with Sub-Zero, Kung Lao and Raiden and I miss their classic costumes and was pretty shocked that they were all locked away for grind or purchase. That includes the "sexier" costumes for females (with the default female costumes, NRS went out of its way to make females less appealing esp combined with zombie looking skins). There are 4 different forms of ingame currency I guess to increase the grind like mobile games as well as making it more confusing to customize your characters. There are tons of costumes and other items that I like a lot but they all are locked away. It should not be like that after spending close to $100 for a Premium version of the game. I hope that NRS and Warner address the micro-transactions and grind and cost of items ASAP or I won't be so fast in buying MK12...    … Expand

    political correctness: female costumes are much more political correct in mk11. think what you want about that. i played all Mk's and don't think female costumes were ever a real thing in MK. Dead or alive and Soul Calibur both do that a lot better. I dont need a sexy Cassie... All i wanna see naked is her spinal cord... and thats totally possible.

    Character Roster: I agree that it isnt the best one in the series. but thats totally personal. i would have liked mileena and Goro. loved them in X. no biggie... ill fall in love with someone else. there is always DLC, and i got the feeling there will be lots of that.

    These points are what iread most about in negative reviews, and none of the would fairly result in a 0 or 1 score. If you loved MK9 or X, youll love this. just be aware of the negatives. it is totally fair to boycot a game for having monetizing schemes that you dont agree with, but these 0/1 reviews aren't reviews... they are protest-votes.    … Expand

    Developers hided a lot of things to get more sales, and many players didn’t had time to evaluate them to ask for the reimbursement here at steam, because game is designed to show their flaws after the initial trial period. When players finish story mode and start to play other modes, they discover the sad truth of the game.

    You will need an endless grind to unlock the game that you already paid for. They hided this on purpose.

    Character alternate appearance is tied to different combat styles, another mistake from the developers.

    Game is poorly optimized, we have a lot of graphic options, but the impact of those is not logical. Anisotropic filtering having more impact than shadows or textures? Really?

    Selling Frost at DLC shop when she is unlocked automatically after 10 minutes of gameplay at story mode is a bait from the developers to get more money. Even if many people knew, if a few customers fall on this trickery, more money for them.

    They inserted out of context political ideology in a fighting game.

    Too many small bugs and many people experience crashes, even at the menus.

    No real tag team, just a few premade tags on towers.

    30 fps on fatalities and certain animations. (Hello Crypt!)

    Ed Boon confirmed that they will never implemented MK9 costumes. Do not wait for them.

    Audio is all off on story mode and cutscenes.

    Character already in game are not eligible to be played.

    At last Kombat Kast they told us that they will not modify Crypt.

    Finally, the lack of respect from the devs with sentences like "Those are not true fans" or if you don't like these changes then I’m GLAD you are disappointed" show what they think about their customers; let's avoid their sexist opinions about women. They can talk freely about Kano's attributes, but they are offended if a woman wears a t-shirt showing her arms at 2019

    If you do not care about this and just want a single player game for versus with friends and story, is ok, get the game. If not, don't support this.    … Expand

    Compared to other fighters of this era, the defensive options and focus on neutral is a blessing. So many other fighting games of this decade are so aggression focused, and seem like anyone can just drool on the controller and steamroll you. MK 11 (at least 24 hours since release) seems to have the depth other fighters are lacking in our modern day.

    However, this is where the bad news starts, especially for the PC version. The fun gameplay is weighed down by an overall clunkiness that ruins the experience. So many just... odd problems plague this game. Tournament variations are not set to default, and not available in practice mode. Game is locked to 30fps and fps drops frequently during cutscenes. Weird quality jumps or falls out of nowhere. The Krypt is random (and non-functional on arcade sticks). Just so many tiny issues that add up.

    And then we hit the more recognized issues of the game, the first being the political... awkwardness of the game. Netherrealm (or maybe WB) really wanted some political messages in here and they don't even do them cleanly. It's one thing if Battlefield V takes on the misogyny or whatever. At least you're aware of their stance. Yet, Jax's controversial ending manages to frustrate all sides of the isle. Progressives are mad at the belittling of the issue of slavery and race relations (just get a magic time travel device and we can fix EVERYTHING! So simple!) and Conservatives don't like a strong (badly attempted) SJW message in their game that's supposed to be an escapist from problems like politics. It gets even worse with Shao Kahn's "Make Outworld Great Again". My apologies here, but the brutal ruler never struck me as someone he particularly wanted anything to be "great" for anyone but himself. He has no interest in Outworld being a prideful, great place to live. So to line him up with the US president doesn't really make much sense, the line falls totally outside of Shao Kahn's character and really comes off as "Hey, we are Netherrealm studios and we're woke".

    And for the love of all that is holy, micro transactions HAVE to go. Here I am, meandering through Goro's dining hall in the Krypt. I have exhausted all areas except for one locked door. In order to get a Skeleton Key to unlock this door, you need to open their little lootboxes that they have inside there. However, the RNG gods frowned upon me and I didn't get a single one. I had spent most of my "KOINS" on unlocking ladders in Towers of Time, trying and failing to get specific skins and fatalities. So I literally cannot now progress in a mode of the game unless I grind like crazy. I paid $70 to have my arm twisted into spending more money. It's 2019 Netherrealm. If you just went the honest route and didn't extort your fans, they'd be much more willing to shill out your game to their friends and buy upcoming DLC and expansions. This is just not the way to go in 2019 for a AAA title.

    Overall, the gameplay is solid and fun. It seems to have depth that other fighters simply haven't had in this present time. However, the game is clearly unpolished, and didn't have the good manners to limit grinding or take out MTXs because of it's incomplete state. Furthermore, MK11 seems to have multiple "Do I get my 'I'm a good person' badge for this?" moments in their stories that just reek of "Staying Woke" and do it very, very poorly. It's not a bad game, but it's far below what it should be coming from a AAA company and Netherrealm Studios.

    My recommendation, buy this later after the smoke is cleared and I feel like this will be a great game.
    However, we'll have to be cautious. If Street Fighter V is any indication, it's hard to bounce back from
    starting off on the wrong foot. Hopefully MK11 can break that mold and succeed against adversity.    … Expand

    The combat is ok even though a bit too slow, graphics is ok as well but thats where the good stops. Loot boxes and mtx the cancer of gaming is my biggest disappointment, my fav char Mileena is missing and no to mention the blatant SJW propaganda and forcing the political views too much. The game is a disaster. 0/10

    I had crazy fun with a few of my friends in a lobby, one can see a lot of thought went into the lobby I love how you can rate a player after you loose to them.

    As for the way the game looks just........... *MIND BLOWING* in 4k or 1080p.

    The crit I have on the game is that there are still a few areas where it plays at 30fps,
    the few day one glitches like server disconnects, the lag input on controls which happened more than once.

    Other than that for you who are MK fan this is another great entry into the MK series.    … Expand

    Paying $60 for a game content blocked by grinding or pay walls is unacceptable.
    Cutting off half of most wanted characters to be later sold as DLCs is unacceptable.
    Releasing a heavily-bugged game just because you can patch it in 6 months is unacceptable.

    Not going into the political agenda we non-Americans have to swallow with every franchise now.

    As it is, this game is unacceptable. Almost every menu you navigate, you are prompted with a "connecting to server" modal dialog. If the connection drops, you lose access to single player content. The game uses a terrible grind system to entice people to buy content with microtransactions.     Until all these things are fixed (and let's be honest, they never will be), I cannot recommend this. It's a shame, because I like the story and the core fighting mechanics are good.    … Expand

Intentionally making something terrible & then going "oh sorry, we'll fix it" then putting a bandage on it so it's no longer 'terrible' but just 'bad' going "Hey look, we 'fixed it', we're good guys!" while it's still just frustrating enough to make you spend money... that's the epitome of sleazy and predatory.

    That's their goal, look like good guys fixing something they intentionally broke, making you spend money on top of the $60/$100 you spent to buy the game (of which the content you are buying w/ these MTX is in the game, so you already paid for it)

    Here's a quick example: 90% of the 'heart' boxes shown on stream, cost /250/ hearts to open, each. You earn... 1 heart per fatality & 2 hearts per brutality. While exploring the Krypt, you can occasionally find bodies hanging in the world & they may have 1-2; It's about the same timeframe as a kombat & brutalizing opponent. So you are looking at a 3-5 minute fight for one-two hearts & you need 250... just to open one box & it has /random/ contents. You may not even get anything you want, or that is usable for your character. Which is a whole other layer of RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG (lootboxes, to get random stuff, and even if it's gear, it has random slots for the augments, which are also random)

    Now lets throw in 'filler' items. There are 3 sets of icons for your variations, black/gold/red & there are 30 each, so that's 90 icons. I don't know how many kombat kard borders/backgrounds there are, but icons? If you have Shao Kahn, that's 2250 filler items in your Krypt item pool, on top of like 30 different konsumables for the towers, & like a dozen krafting materials; And those icons? You can get duplicates, so even if you get one from a box, you can still get another.

    The kombat in the game? Really nice. The Story? Pretty epic. Actual single player content post-story? Absolutely frustrating, designed to make you spend money to bypass or speed it up. NRS & WB have gone out of their way to try & milk the game as a quick cashcow & are making themselves look like the good guy by saying they're looking into 'fixing' the intentionally terrible grind they created.

    I cannot in good conscious recommend this. And the only reason I didn't refund immediately, is because you have to own the game here on Steam to post these reviews    … Expand

    "developer acknowledges the issues"....Seeing how quickly they are acknowledging it, still doesn't erase the fact that they are once again trying to scam the consumer for every penny they got.

    Plus just because they are releasing a patch, it doesn't mean all the major complaints will be addressed, this should have never happened to begin with if they are so worry about reviews.

    this guys from NetherRealm made probably their worst game. This terrible game just doesn't want to open on PC. A lot of players having issues with launching and playing because of huge amount of lags. A lot of micro transactions and self advertising shows that nowadays the only thing NetherRealm cares about is money...

    I preordered the game. I was promised a playable game the day it was released. I didn't get it.
    I'm still waiting for it and all i hear about is the rampant monetisation.
    I know that i made a huge mistake and the only thing i can do is write this review so others won't make it.

    Don't buy cashgrab games. Never preorder them no matter what will they promise.

    This mortal combat is still tons of fun. Realistic graphics, top-notch body and facial animations, extremely inventive violence and perfect sound effects. Ed Boon and Co. still make the best fighting games in town.
