Mortal Kombat 11 is excellent if you’re in it for the story, and a solid fighting game underneath as well, but the experience is marred by rough edges. Given the state of NetherRealm’s last few games on PC, I’m not sure we could’ve expected much more. If anything, this is an improvement.

A refreshing addition to the series, with beautiful graphics and excellent combat, yet plagued with microtransactions that force you to choose between grinding or paying, as well as lackluster RNG systems.

  1. The studio has promised adjustments to this mode (some may have already been patched in by the time you read this). But I’ve yet to feel the benefit. That sense of dissatisfaction leaves a reviewer in that old laundry drum of morality. I should probably be out on the cyber-streets demanding improvements. What do we want? More costume unlocks! When do we want them? After you nerf the Towers! But that means yet more work for the developers, and then I’d have to face the other problem of Mortal Kombat 11: the recent reports that its studio is a harsh place to work, a place of unhealthy working practices and months of unhealthy overtime. Crunch, in other words. But they’d probably spell it “Krunch”.

What a disappointing entry in the MK franchise!

A lot of fan favourites are missing (Mileena, Rain, Sindel, Smoke...).

The story is abysmal, makes no sense at all and effectively destroys the entire lore of the last 27 years. Also pushing you personal political agenda with certain tower endings is just disgusting. The developers lied about certain aspects (all characters in the story will be playable, there will be unlockable characters, they will listen to the fans and include all the fan favourites...)

Most importantly however: The developers showed how much they disrespect/hate one of the biggest fan favourites (Mileena) and her fanbase. They didn't include her in the game and mocked/ridiculed her fans for telling NRS how much they want their favourite to be a part of the new installment.

Don't buy games from developers who lie to you, mock/ridicule their own fanbase and put wokeness above character consistency.
