This game is fun mostly whilst playing with your friends and online. Without those features, the offline is boring and lonely, which is sad as I have seen people who make videos of Minecraft offline with or without modifications have so much fun which makes no sense to me. Now for the gameplay features, it is simplistic which I like. You punch blocks to make blocks, to make tools to get better blocks. The bosses are boring however and require nothing else but SHOOT THE THING and the AI is ok. The enemies are intelligent enough and the friendly creatures are responsive to you killing them. The graphics aren't next generation but are stylised with the game and getting a graphics modification ruins the feel so don't. However it runs like crap as it uses Java script as the coding language and it really isn't ideal with making three dimensional games with such expansiveness. As of bugs, the only ones I see are shading errors and generation problems but overall a good built game, and I am not surprised as of how many people actually play this game and bug report.

Overall this game is good and I see appeal to those who want to play games that are expansive and simple and I find it OK. 7/10

Minecraft is a great game, and it is a truly open world sandbox, where your minecraft world ends with you. This Game is definitely a mark in video game history, and I hope this game leads to new ideas for future sandbox games. First, I'll start with survival. My first time, like most new players, was rough. Minecraft kind of puts you in the wild and says "you're on your own, have fun". But that's not that bad, it adds a bit of the charm to the game, and that there is lots to learn to do, and aim for. It also introduces you to the minecraft community, as you rely on it to learn more about the game, and how to play it. I'll talk more about the MC community later, as it plays a big role in the game. As you learn more and more, you explore your world, survive ravage nights, and build whatever you can imagine. Minecraft life will have many things to do, make, or explore. this review was made in ver 1.7.9, and there is a point where you have done it all, and once you've explored the game inside and out, the game starts to lose steam, the game-play isn't that interesting past that for the most part. Then there is creative mode, where you are invincible, and can build (or destroy) with few limits.

now, back to the community. The minecraft community is the absolute best, and really works hand and hand with the game to make it bigger and better, in a way I have never seen in any other game. if you have a decent amount of tech smarts, or look up tutorials, there you will really get the full effect of the minecraft community's mark on the game, and get more out of the game when you've explored it all. First off, the I am so impressed by what, amateur developers that loved the game, created in the minecraft community. There is like a mod for Freaking everything; shooting kamehameha's, guns, weapons from RWBY, SAO, KH, etc, Pokemon, magic, npcs, superpowers, bosses battles, alternate dimensions, you name is, it's most likely a mod for it, and will being the game to life. In addition, there are also resource packs to change the look and feel of the game. and Many maps custom maps; from an epic adventure map (most likely made by Hypixel), a survival world with the creators flare, recreations of other things or places, or just an awesome looking thing someone built. Don't even get me started on multiplayer server, minigames and stuff. Even outside of gameplay, youtubers have made minecraft so popular, and really something that people enjoy.

Now here comes the sad part of this review. The flaws of minecraft. The wonderful things the minecraft community brings to the game will keep you entertains for a long time, but it also starts to die. Minecraft's huge gaping hole that keeps it 2 points away from a 9/10 is the gameplay. Im sorry, but you the battle mechanics are pretty... eh, and just barely passes as enjoyable. Way you move, the way you fight, and just the way your character performs, it's just... ok.... it passes, and it wouldn't take away from the minecraft experience, but once it's you've explored everything, and you've exhausted your creativity, tried many mods, the game dies there. Gameplay is an important part of if you would come back to the game, and a game like this can't be played for a plot. but another point was deducted for the way the game is being improved. as more and more updates have come out, less and less is actual added. The updates just aren't giving me anything to return to the game to do something new. These flaws will not affect new players, but more players that have played minecraft for a while. If this ever changes in future versions, I would gladly give this game a 8/10, maybe even a 9/10. It hurts me that I had to give this game 7/10, but, I just can't go any higher.

overall, you will love Minecraft, and if you're a gamer, get this game. Let your imagination and exploration run free. And a tip, take shelter before the sun sets in the game, because the night is evil.

Blocky, though memorable graphics will make it hard for the user to not be able to spot the sight of a dirt block or a diamond sword. And the sounds of breaking blocks, and the beautifully nostalgic, yet for some reason melancholy soundtrack will be stuck in your head for hours.

Minecraft is that game that comes out once in a decade. That game that truly separates itself from all others, despite how many clones may attempt to mimic it. It is a game that isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and that just makes it that much better.

But does the game really deserves to be critiziced because of it? I honestly don't think so...
Minecraft is whatever you want it to be. It provides you with a feeling of freedom that a lot of other games want to make you believe you have. It's not as simple as 'just a building game', it encourages you to reflect upon yourself and see how far you can take it.
And that's where I believe the true magic of Minecraft shines. It's not about the game anymore, it's about showing yourself and the community how creative, artistic and smart you are just by using the same blocks everyone has and placing them in a way no one has thought of yet.
    It's a social platform.
So yes, the game has it's flaws. It can feel 'choppy', chunks can ben slow when loaded and pigs seem to be spinning all over the place and climbing trees. Also, the developers make promises that sometimes can take a long time to actually fulfill. But none of this is actually 'gamebreaking'. Simply put, none of this matters..
It doesn't matter, because what the game does is providing you with a sense of accomplishment, all on your own. Not your ordinary 'If you complete this challenge, you will be rewarded with this' accomplishment, but the same proud you felt when you we're a kid, playing with lego's and wanting to share your creation with your parents.
If it's a full sized replica of the Enterprise. If it's a functional working HDD. If it's an underground city where the entire community is being provided with food, shelter, safety and entertainment. You created this, you are a part of this.
People who don't play this game will think you're wasting your time. People who do play this game will understand.

After developing it for many months, Markus decided he couldn’t handle the game on his own, and founded the company Mojang which still works on the game today.

The main goal of Minecraft is to do what you want. There is no set goal, no save the princess, no destroy the bad guys plot. There are two game types. Laid back, relaxed creative mode, where you can get anything out of your inventory, and the challenging survival mode, with monsters, starvation, damage, and resources must be gathered.

Creative mode, the most popular among the two with the younger gamers, or just people with low-end pc’s that can’t handle the game too well, is very good for testing things so that you don’t build something in your survival world, only to find out it doesn’t work. Most people have a “test world” a world in which they put all of their builds, mainly using redstone, in to make sure they were reliable and worked for survival mode.

Survival mode, the more fun game mode (in my opinion) is very challenging, as you start with nothing and have to work your way up. Some times living off of rotten flesh as a food source, you must find a way to survive once night hits, allowing the monsters to spawn.

One of the best parts of the game however, is that it’s open-sourced. You can go into the game code and change whatever you like, which allows for any type of mod you’re looking for, whether it makes the game easier, or makes it much more hostile, or just increases performance of the game on your computer.

Gameplay wise it plays extremely well.... simple controls and easy game to learn, and it plays surprisingly smoothly, which makes the game a pure gem and is a wonder to play. But the building is the part of the game that I get so excited with. You can literally build anything and if you really wanted to cover the world in building after building after building, and when your finally done go down into a cave and explore, crafting and building while you do it. This is a game of unending possibility, and through the support of modding, that part of the game is taken so much further. This is a masterpiece, and although the mechanics are so simple, it will always be a game i will remember and cherish for a very, very long time. This is one of those games that you say "just 5 more minutes", and an hour later you have built some sort of castle that will about 100 blocks long, and that is the pure value that this game is remembered for. There are loads of items to craft, places to explore, stuff to mine, things to build, kill.... I personally prefer the latter mode; it's a lot more rewarding to work for your stuff rather than just being able to make it.

The only two turnoffs is that the game can be a bit vague to newcomers (you may have to look at a wiki or a guide) and if you don't set goals for yourself, which the game doesn't do, you'll probably find little reason to play Minecraft.

I definitely recommend trying out Minecraft if you haven't already, and if those turnoffs won't be a bother to you.

Minecraft cannot be judged on its base gameplay, or on its story, or on its end. It can only be judged by the thousands of hours you sink into building with your friends. The YEARS of time you spend on a server, transforming it from a simple grassy plain to a booming city of industry. The time you spent on minigames that were never intended by the developers. The joy it gave you, from the hectic moments of combat to the quiet time spent building your castles. Let's break this into a few main categories - performance, graphics, overall gameplay, controls, customization and price/enjoyment comparison.

    Performance:
The game runs smoothly on 100 frames per second on most of the PCs in the year 2020. Mojang did a really good job in 1.15, in which they improved the overall performance. Minecraft gets 9/10 for performance. It doesn’t get the full score, because TNT still causes some lag-spikes.

    Overall gameplay:
We will break this category into 6 sub-categories – open-world, story, structures, enemies, animals, bosses.

The open-world in this game is enormous. This game definitely gets 10/10 for open-world.

Now it’s getting interesting – Minecraft has, well, practically no story, but! You can create your own story based adventure maps and share them online, but this will be better listed in the customization category. Minecraft gets 5/10 for the story category, but I think that’s for the best.

Very well, this is a tough one. This game has some great structures like the ocean monument, the woodland mansions and shipwrecks, has some mediocre structures like desert pyramids, that just need a little bit of variety, and the same thing about the jungle pyramids. But it also has some terrible structures like the desert wells that are just, well, boring as heck and dungeons, that need a little bit of an actual challenge. Minecraft gets 6/10. It gets this rating because I really like the whole shipwreck - treasure mechanic, but I think that most of the structures are really easy.

This game has a very wide variety of enemies. I personally really like fighting most of them. Minecraft gets 10/10 for this category, because I really like fighting them and I think that they are perfect for this game.

Animal variety in this game isn’t as wide as the enemy variety, but it’s still very wide. I think that they should add more wild animals, and because of that, Minecraft gets 8/10 for this category.

This game has 2 main bosses – Ender Dragon, Wither and a few minibosses – Elder Guardian, Evoker. I don’t think that bosses really fit into Minecraft, but at least one more boss would be okay, right? Minecraft gets 8/10 for this category.

I’ve done my calculations, and I have calculated, that Minecraft gets 8/10 for the overall gameplay category.

    Graphics:
This game has it’s own style that is very similar to 8-bit games. It can be improved using shaders, but more about that in the customization category. Minecraft gets 10/10 for this category. Minecraft would get 9/10 before 1.14, but Mojang did a really good job in 1.14.

    Controls:
Controls in this game are amazing, and the fact that you can change them by your liking, makes them even more amazing. Minecraft definitely gets 10/10 for this category.

    Customization:
This game is by far the most customizable game in gaming history. You can create and install mods, resource packs, shaders, datapacks, maps and that is the beauty of this game. Minecraft gets 10/10 for this category.

    Price/enjoyment comparison:
You can do anything you want in this blocky world for just $26.95. Minecraft gets 10/10 for this category.

    Judgment:
Minecraft is a very customizable blocky game, where you can do almost anything. I calculated the final score – 9/10. It got 9.5/10 according to my calculations, but sadly, I can’t give that score.

I can see why. Minecraft is a very well-made game. There are many aspects to this game I enjoy. I love Creative Mode. It was such a blast creating whatever I wanted out of blocks. (Despite how limiting that sounds, it's actually really fun to think outside the box) For example, I loved building numerous NES sprites out of simple wool. I mean, you could literally create whatever your heart desires, and I love that about Minecraft.

For a while, that's the only thing I did until I discovered the beauty of the different servers. Mineplex and Hypixel are extremely nostalgic servers, and I played on them and a few others all the time. I still do with my friends from time to time, and it's such a blast.

To be honest though, I never got into the Survival Mode. I know a lot of that is just me, because Survival games really aren't my thing, but I found it very slow and boring. But everything you can do in Minecraft is completely optional, and it doesn't affect my enjoyment for this game at all.

Though, I'll just say this, I don't think the soundtrack is all that good. The only one I can remember out of the top of my head is the four main notes of Sweden. Everything else is just a blank for me. I always have the music turned off in the settings unless I want it on for the atmosphere.

Still, Minecraft is one of my favorite video games of all time, and I'll never forget all the memories I had.

To me it's astonishing how well Minecraft is performing. Heck, it's the best game of all time. But this game has some flaws that not everyone talks about:
    1. Survival mode is not really that fun unless you're: a) playing with friends (I don't have any that aren't annoying to play with); b) you're a Youtuber talking to a microphone (I don't have 10 hours of free time and 100 subscribers).

    2. Multiplayer is a hassle. You know how you can make your own server? There are three ways: 1) Try to make one by coding yourself, though there aren't any good tutorials on Youtube; 2) PAY UP! "JuSt A lItTlE 9,99 a MoNtH aNd YoUr PrObLeMs ArE gOnE" (Realms); 3) Use a glitchy, laggy third-party website with pay4play server limits and long queues.
    3. Hard modding. You need to install mods from third-party websites and use third-party clients (good luck if you don't have an antivirus!). Mod management is hard and painful, when upgrading versions, you have to stay back because your favorite mod didn't update.
    4. It's absolutely overrated. Most Minecraft players are Minecraft stans. The community is so cringy and young that it's, in some ways, toxic. The big youtubers exploit clickbait so they can get money from their cringy videos. Some youtubers (like Dream, who is also overrated) get their own stans (AND rule 34 art) too. Minecraft is a good game, but not nearly as good as proclaimed by some kids. The community alone made me leave a lower rating. Also, everyone HATES the combat update. Why do people crap on it so much? It made minecraft combat more challenging and tactical, strategical, and believe me, those combat-critics are the same people who think Mario games are bad because they are too easy.

I'm not sure why people are complaining about features and how the developers are "full of themselves" they release an update weekly called "weekly snapshots". They contain bugs and are works in progress but that is the whole idea behind Minecraft it is a work in progress. It always will be. Unlike other open world games like GTA, there is always more coming. The only limitation to this game is yourself and if the game doesn't have a feature, there is most likely a mod that does.

As much as I would love to just keep writing on and on about the actual flaws, I just implore you guys to watch the review I was talking about earlier, it brings up every point I was going to bring up anyways. Monsters that will come out at night and appear in dark places, (badly lit houses, caves, tunnels, under over-hangs, ect) then monsters include Zombies, Skeletons with bows, and Creepers (appear on earth). Personally, I give Creepers the award for being the scarcest, (As in "Oh god, no!") and most annoying enemy, ever. Creepers will run at you when they see you, and explode when they are about 3-4 blocks away from you, this is bad since the blast will destroy the sounding blocks (Your house?) Also since there is a day and night system which lasts 10 minutes for day, 7 for night, and 1.5 for sunrise/sunset. The graphics are terrible, but that's not the point, Notch (the creator's username) is looking for good game play, and is also trying not to make MineCraft non-repetitive, which is why the maps are randomly generated, this way you can find hidden tunnels, caves, and pieces of land that look just awesome. Notch definitely don't deserved to have that much money for the efforts he gave this game.

Most of the new features are already done by modders, so Notch basically don't have to do anything but copy the mods and put them into the game.

It is simple, yet addictive, and the pure creationism of it allows you to build to your heart's content. There are those who complain about the graphics, but if those people can't get over the graphics and see this brilliant game is then I pity them. And the graphics aren't actually bad at all, they suit the game and are quite charming. Just the thrill of exploring a randomly generated world and finding all kinds of wonderful and peculiar things. And exploring the bowels of the earth, hunting for those elusive diamonds and always looking over your should lest a monster creep up on you. Multiplayer, though still in development, allows players to connect with their friends and build their dream house, castle, fort ,cave, or whatever they may wish. There are also those who would criticise the game's single developer, and we do need to remember that this game is made by one man, Notch works hard to produce this brilliant game, but if he decides that he doesn't want to patch the game, then the game is not patched, god forbid he should ever go on holiday. He may have established an office for Mojang, but it is simply so that he can surround himself with the greatest programming talent in Sweden. From the amazing mods that improve the game so much, to the fan made maps and community on YouTube, this is one of the greatest games of all time, and with it expanding to the 360 early in the new year, I cannot wait to play it on both my PC and 360 with all of my friends and family, because of course, it is a family game. Probably the best game ever made. There is a goal to the game, although it isn't obvious at first. Minecraft's weakest point would have to be the fact that it can get boring after a while. However, starting afresh usually helps.

At its core Minecraft is the ultimate game, simple yet elegant, and infinitely re-playable. From when i started playing while it was in alpha to now the best part is the multi-player being able to create literally whatever you want from things you find while exploring. Its infinite plain and simple like Lego when i was growing up this recreates a part of my life i desperately needed again

Minecraft is the best game on the PC. Building for free is great and Survival is excellent. I thought because it was pixelated it was bad but when i played it it was satisfying and really excellent fun

My new favorite game. Once you get over the fact that it isn't a fast paced game and that yes, everything is made of blocks, will you understand the true splendor of Minecraft. My recommendation is find a good server that you enjoy playing on and make some friends on their - it will be worth it. You can find servers on the minecraft forums.

Great game overall. Frequently updated and improved and many new blocks added regularily adding up to the amount of clever contraptions and machines you can build. Great pastime and quite addicting.

This is a must-have game in my opinion because its a nice wind-down with peaceful music after playing a bit of battlefield 3. the multiplayer is so much fun with friends and the overall look and peaceful feel of the game is wonderful. who needs graphics?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Minecraft is a game you can play for hours and hours, each advancement better than the next. It can be repetitive, but it's usually thrilling to avoid lava, to build huge sky-scrappers, and light the sky up at night. I love this game, I need to play it more. Expand

Minecraft is not a game. Minecraft is more of a creativity toy. Of course, with the recent addition of experience points and the hunger meter it's now steering towards the game portion. They can sculpt a giant hand flipping the bird if they really want to, or create a scale model of the Enterprise. Or they can build a castle, a dungeon, a maze... Minecraft lets the player build almost anything they want.

Of course, a game without clear goals will bore some people and turn them off this game. The blocky graphics as well, while ideal (more or less) for a game of this kind, would probably turn some people away, especially with the ongoing "prettier is better" thought process that seems to be spreading in the industry. Minecraft is still fun though, and with some creativity can last you a very long time.

Graphics complaints are missing the point of this game. There is plenty to do and much to explore, dont bother with the free version, the only version worth beans is survivor. And find a guide to help you get started.

An amazing game that's just .. i don't think that there's a word for it. It is just such a wonderful game. With the addictive content i think that this is a game that just needs to be played, even for once, just for trying. The game is really a first for the indie game collection. Totally different from the other FPS or any other popular mainstream game. I just LOVE it, highly recommended !

Constantly expanding and versatile enough to create 3-D sculptures that are also working digital-logic circuits. If you don't like Minecraft you must be boring or unimaginative. ; ] Also...try to get over the whole 'cube' thing as there would be no other way to achieve such an ambitious game-style. Truly revolutionary. Expand

If you haven't bough this, buy it now! This game has 3D pixels for graphics, and the maps are made of FREAKING BLOCKS! Multiplayer is a hit because you can build with your friends or with a 16-year old Scottish dude. Simple but marvelous gameplay makes this one of the best PC games in my opinion.

There are never too many great building games. Minecraft is one of the best. If you played with legos in your childhood you've got to love this. The idea is simple, put blocks and remove blocks. This easy mechanism allows you to create whatever you want. And it's cheap too.

The 1.0 version of the indie phenomena is still obviously unfinished and flawed in many ways, but it's so easy to forget that when you're building your dream castle, exploring scary caves and vast mountain ranges and having a great time in its blocky world.

While Minecraft may not be everybody's cup of tea, I doubt anyone can deny that it's an important step into new territory.

A must-play title - as much a part of videogaming as it is anything else. [Issue#118, p.102]
