The game really visits all of the aspects of the world and how people adapted to live in a post apocalyptic world inhabited by deadly and scary monsters. It flushes out every little aspect if you look close enough and this creates immersion with the world that is amazingly depicting the environment and the situation of the humans, plus this is not forced on the player, which is always nice and allows for a natural discovery of the linear but exposed world of Metro.
Given the strict linear nature of the game, the story is very scripted and linear but it offers a lot and it works very well, and feels just right that way. All though the linear script causes some gameplay issues when you can not do things differently once you got in to a sticky situation. But that is venial because the game's difficulty feels realistically rash and hard that way. The game engine was really stable and made a game from 2013 look like it was next generation, and was also able to handle environmental detail and animations to and extreme and ultimately made the game more enjoyable and good looking, besides immersive. The main menu already felt really integrated in to the feel of the world and was very well handled and simple to navigate. This applies to the in game menu and inventory and every other option, which internally does not break the immersion. The HUD is simplistic and offers just enough information and this reflects the realistic part of it and the immersion keeps going. Visual effect are amazing, with a really stable and very well performing physics system. The sound, music and audio ques are realistic and supports the already immersive and detailed world and adds to the horror/fear factor of the player. Plus the quality of them is really good. The music is also handled internally and adds to the entertainment and joy factor.
The voice acting of characters was done really great, with and exceptional script and writing, that -as mentioned before- flushes out every aspect of the world and explores every little humanity left in the characters. The only things that where dull was the silent protagonist, which led to cringe character interactions with the playable character and the fact that dialog was not overlapping in certain situations. But this can be easily overlooked for the quality and depth of the writing.
The AI was really well designed depending on the difficulty, and felt realistic with proper flanking maneuvers regarding the human NPC's. The boss-fights where the only thing that dragged in this area due to the tactical and strategical level needed to beat their simplistic and repetitive attacks.
The game was really stable and handled well even on the highest settings, not one crash or bigger issues found all the way through my play-through. .
The game mechanics was really polished as well, except for the fact that on the stealth levels of the game you avoid the human AI, which takes out the combat challenge because as mentioned before the human AI is the only one which is harder to beat. Although this acceptable due to the nature of the game, that being a stealth game as much as a linear story telling one. Even though stealth is optional it is handled well and is fun and takes practice and patients to master.
The only bad thing that I can say about the game's linear plot is that some times the characters that you need to assassinate or save, have plot armor and it shows which makes it dull and obvious. Also the cut-scenes are the only thing that break the game flow and the ongoing immersion. At the end you get used to the fact that in every cut-scene you lose control of you character and get punished for it, by a setback or being captured.
Overall I honestly think that this game is enjoyable, super immersive, entertaining, tells a good story and a very good one at that and is under appreciated. Ultimately it's artistic value is over the roof and it comes down to be an amazing game with great experience, even though not being perfect this is by far an amazingly executed and designed game.

Metro Last Light is a continuation of 2033 very successful, and exceeding 2033 in some aspects, but worse in others.

Last Light, although it is just as interesting to follow that 2033, I notice a step below in the story that counts, especially because its narrative is heavier.

Last Light mitigates the problems of gameplay and provides very fun combats, with a much better AI.

Almost similar quality-wise to its predecessor
The atmosphere is still great, everywhere is something going on. Linear but not overly scripted game. Rather resembles Half-Life than Call of Duty. It has a few unnecessary immersion-breaking cutscenes or ingame-script sequences which prevent this game from being a masterpiece, though.
sidenote: since Exodus will be temporarily exclusive

Graphically this 2014 rebuild is awesome, and its impressive to see how much the devs was able to improve in one year with the tools they had at they disposal. Even to the 2018/19 standards the game is awesome visually, and some light/shadow effects are simply breathtaking.
The soundtrack and sound effects are generically good. The noise of the weapons, the background noises or weather sounds are very good, but the dialogues are terrible some times. Bad acting, the eco of the dialogue not match the surrounding scenario and so many other aspects really show lack of resourses or "know how" in this aspect.

Overall the game is good, and oblivious to all the controversy that surrounds the developer in 2019 with the release of their new game Metro Exodus, I have to recommend the game.

I leave you all a small video with my first minutes of gameplay at the link: https://youtu.be/znQviDOtQBI and a bigger one showing some of the more intense moments of the game, at the link: https://youtu.be/DTtXmLoOzP0

Metro LLR is incredibly good. Visuals are top notch, the story is more convincing and more interesting than 2033's one, and the gameplay feels better. The only complain I can think of is the rather stupid way devs implemented the higest difficulty levels, by just making weapon and inventory menus invisible instead of providing for an alternative way to select items.

Metro: Last Light has plays exactly the same as Metro 2033: great atmosphere and immersion, good visuals and sound, few bugs here and there. The only slight negative difference is that boss fights are very tedious.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overview:
Metro: Last Light is the next chapter in the series that started with 2014’s critically acclaimed Metro:2033. Developed by 4A games and published by Deep Silver, Metro: Last light offers more spine tingling chills and pulse pounding action than its predecessor. Expanding and refining its tried and true Survival Horror/FPS formula Metro: Last Light offers players yet another foray both in and below the post-apocalyptic world of nuclear fire scorched Moscow.

    Story:
In:Last Light players resume their role as Artyom, who was once just a simple twenty year old survivor living in relative safety at his home station within the Metro. Now, after his many victories and hardships from the previous game, the young man has been inducted into the legendary faction known as Rangers of The Order. Our hero has been recently promoted and is now tasked with his most dangerous mission to date. He must infiltrate and recover technology inside a bunker known simply as D6. Throughout the course of his adventure, Artyom becomes embroiled in the growing war between The Order, the Neo-Nazi faction known as The Fourth Reich, and the communist army known as The Red LIne. All of these groups have one thing in common, they want what’s inside D6. Now the race is on to see who will come out on top in this fight for humanity’s very soul as well as which ideology will reign supreme within the new world.

    Gamplay:
Last Light continues along the same line as the first game placing the player in the driver’s seat of the action through the eyes of Artyom. All of what made the previous installment so exciting returns. Various upgrades and enhancements have been implemented such as more weapons/tools at the players disposal, vehicle combat, more exploration, bigger environments and upgrades to enemy AI. These factors combine to deliver far more fleshed out experience, adding a new level of depth to the already rock solid formula found within the previous title.

    Graphics/Art Direction:
Graphically, Last Light ups the ante from its predecessor. 4A Games has revamped their already impressive engine. Upgraded with better textures, lighting effects and shaders, Metro:Last Light truly delivers on all fronts. Of particular note are the ultra realistic fire effects. For example, flames dancing across the thick spider webs or Artyom’s lighter illuminating darkened pathways are always a pleasure to behold. Yet another couple of minor but no less impressive details are the facial animations and the modelling of each character’s hands. As simple as those two things might sound they are some of the hardest things for developers to nail, even today. Both of these minute details add to the player’s immersion throughout the course of the player’s adventure as they are constantly on display in both cutscenes and gameplay alike.

    Soundtrack/Audio Desgin:
The Soundtrack for Last light is dark, rich and atmospheric as ever. The musical score features everything from subtle guitar strings present in the opening cinematic to the much more dramatic orchestral tracks present within the action sequences. The top notch voice acting and narration returns as well, with the script writing being particularly noteworthy. Metro stations come alive as the player walks through the markets, bars and other areas of these underground “cities”. Tens of NPC’s speak on a variety of subjects such as Artyom’s exploits, politics, hunger, recent battles in the tunnels or on the surface etc. This makes the player stay engaged with the fast paced story and adds real depth to all the characters and the world as a whole.

    Final Thoughts:
In conclusion Last Light is everything gamers look for in a sequel. Better graphics, more options for both combat/stealth approaches, a tighter more fleshed out story and voice acting combine to deliver a game that improves on its predecessor in every way. Building on the success on their previous title, 4A and Deep Sliver showed they did not rest on their laurels and were able to expand their franchise while maintaining the essence of what made Metro:2033 so great. As an added bonus, players that pick up Metro: Last Light Redux can get their hands on this beautifully crafted game with all the DLC included for the low price of twenty dollars. This package is one of the most enticing value for money propositions on the market today.

This game along with the original Metro 2033 is one of the best atmospheric shooters ever made. Its not particularly scary but it tells a dark, depressing story and engages your emotions like few games ever did. The only thing that bothered me were those forced boss fights which kind of broke the immersion for me but fortunately there were few such encounters and they were over pretty fast.

Expand

If someone owns Metro: Last Light, there's absolutely no reason to buy the Redux version. Graphically its the very same game, while the DLC content and the Survival/Spartan mode are not enough to justify this new release and the 20 euros price, even with the differentiation the later offers to the gameplay. On the other hand, whoever hasn't played the original game yet, has another good reason to do it now.

The game becomes much more of a survival-horror title with the new available options, and if you’re new you can try both styles and decide for yourself. Otherwise, there’s really no reason to prefer the original over this remastering.
