With great graphics, artistic visuals and excellent attention to detail, dark and mature storyline, intense atmosphere amplified by realistic gameplay elements, this is the only game which makes you feel like you really are in a post apocalyptic world fighting for survival.

A really good, story driven FPS.

I am not a big shooter player, but in my eyes this was almost a perfect FPS game.
And I am not even a big fan of the post apocalyptic scenario...

Good story telling, great graphics, great game play.

Nice FPS game with awesome graphics. Atmosphere is really good and story is original and unpredictable. The design of monsters is interesting. The major drawback of this game is that some shootings are really boring and uselessly prolonged. fairly well done remake

And although there is must more to this game than the tense encounters and atmosphere, those two are perhaps the games strongest attributes - and really make it shine. Expand

I'm not kidding if I say I found just 4 minor flaws on the entire game (excluding gameplay, style and other subjective things each player may like, love or hate) which are:
    > quite slow loading times (played on a SSD disk, so can't imagine that on old disks)
    > surface "levels" have often a lot of "secrets" which would be nice if you didn't have limited time (especially on survival, sneaking around, waiting for openings), not to mention that sometimes you can't say if you're going after a "secret" or the actual end of the level
    > 3D speech sound is kinda "faulty" (at least it is on linux) to a point you almost can't ear someone talking to you if you're facing the opposite direction
    > monster spawns are sometimes "triggered", meaning that as soon as you do something a couple of monsters spawns behind you.

This... these are the only objective flaws I was able to find on this title, everything else is pure gold.
Gorgeous graphics and concept art, good and fitting music, a plot that is just as simple as it is amazing, extremely good work depicting characters personalities with just a few "hints"

I would also like to point out that the game has a VERY good graphical engine and not only I was able to get ~20% more avg fps than, for example, Bioshock Infinite (both at maximum settings) but Metro 2033 Redux NEVER stuttered, like never EVER.

Finally there's one thing I'd like to write about just because, as funny as it sounds, prevented me to play this title for almost an year; (on linux) if I kept my USB Arcade Stick plugged, Metro fps were locked to 11~13 meaning it was totally unplayable, once I unplugged the stick, I got 70 fps on the benchmark...

A rather solid shooter. A bit gray but I guess it's because of the setting and nothing can be done about it. The weapons feel very responsive. The UI is a bit of lacking and confusing. You do get used to it and it does help out with immersion - you have no idea how much health you have, the character starts coughing and chocking when needs a gas mas or to switch filter.

Shooting people is very nice, monsters not so much but that might be just personal preference. The story is ok - not really captivating but not terrible - but fits the general atmosphere of the game and the setting. Some cut-scenes could have been avoided. The finishing sequence is also the only thing not fitting the whole setting.

Overall I enjoyed the game. Jumped a couple of times as well. Disliked a couple of areas and really liked others.

After reading the book that the game is based off, I decided to give the game itself some attention. Overall, this is a polished, story-driven FPS that can be a shooter or a stealth game depending on your style of play. As someone who loved the novel, Metro 2033 was an authentic homage to the novel with only a few significant things different in the game than in the book.

Metro 2033 Redux still has annoying bugs like NPCs getting stuck and auto save in locations where you can't get out. And sometimes you die, because your gas filter runs out during a cut scene... right after the game autosaved.

The game is great at its core, but all this crap in an "improved" version is absolutely unacceptable. Quality assurance and testing for this game have completely failed.

Overall, Redux presents itself in a way that makes the original seem like an unpolished, early access. At first, I felt like the devs were trying to milk their customers by reselling the game with a few tweaks, but after trying out a pirated copy for an hour, I see that they deserve my money. It's a proper remaster. The original already had a great story, amazing graphics, and unique gameplay. Redux is an improvement worthy of $25, especially if you've never played the original. On the PC version you can increase the FOV via config file, while on console you can't touch it. My largest complaint about Redux is the lens flares. I'm tired of this trend where the character's eyes are treated like a camera. Afaik there isn't a way to disable them. I appreciate the beefed-up graphics, but I hate unnecessary effects, like the moon in the prologue. I've found another unnecessary change... The part where a guy on the rails was about to get hit by a cart but dodged it because someone whistled at him, then everyone laughed. Sucks that it got taken out in Redux. It confuses me why it was taken out, buuuuut okay then. The rest of the game seems promising. I'll buy it asap. Money is stupidly tight for me right now. Expand

I you like games that tell you exactly where to walk, have no scavenging, economy and strategy: by all means. Try this when you are fighting in the dark: shoot 1 bullet and all the enemies will walk towards you and you can kill them without moving with a headshot on their helmet lights. FUN!

Enjoyed the game, it's post apocaliptic feel could be a bit longer for my taste or not so linear. This game needs a bit more the feel of the older game forgot the name in chernobyl where we could go where we want. The game didn't felt so linear like this one altrought it had same wibe.

Never played the original so I cannot compare, however I enjoyed this game.
Downside: it was very short (7 hours) and there were very few enemies in total.
Upside: The graphics were good, the story was great, I even remember the characters name after finishing the game.
    Verdict: Worth playing.

How to properly re-do a game for next gen. With heavy graphical upgrades, performance improvements, added missions, all DLC included, this game is a MUST HAVE. Metro 2033 was a flawed, but good game. The Redux does a wonderful job of taking away those flaws while also updating the graphics, leaving us with a game that is great and feels modern despite its 4 1/2 year old underpinnings.. It is a shame that being a "remake" of a cult (i.e. not super popular) game it didn't get the press/critic coverage that it deserved.

The original 2033 was already a great game but the redux version gives it a newer graphical and interface overhaul. This is the way reduxs are supposed to be made. P.S. If anyone's experiencing problems with starting either Metro Redux game (such as SethroFives' issue, where it crashes at the very beginning of the game), then follow the next few steps:

This is the fix I used to solve the issue:

    - Go into your Metro directory folder in steam and find the video folder (wherever it was downloaded, something along the lines of /SteamApps/common/Metro 2033 Redux/2033/ or /SteamApps/common/Metro Last Light Redux/)

    - Delete the file named "intro.ogv" (without the quotations)

    - Open notepad and save it as "intro.ogv" (without quotations)

    - Save the intro.ogv file you just made into those same folders the old intro.ogv files used to be in

    - Run the game. It should run without any more issue regarding crashes at the beginning of the game

On PC, there is no reason to have this because we already have the full graphics the consoles didn't get, and even though it adds seamless transitions through missions and new places to go, I don't want to sacrifice the stylization of the game because of how out of place everything looks in the redux. However, if PC is not available, by all means buy it on next gen.

One of the most atmospheric and immersive first person shooters of recent years becomes even better, by enriching its gameplay, normalizing its performance and enhancing its graphics, with the use of the latest 4A engine features.
