    Metro 2033 Redux is a good game that could have been better in many ways. One way that it could have been improved would have been simply sticking closer to the novel in some ways. It still could have been a good game albeit more of a horror adventure game than a shooter. The book captured the feel of the metro much better and took more time in each station where the game seemed more interested in adding in action at every opportunity than story details. The action itself was fun, don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the firefights; upgrading various weapons; and managing air on the surface. My favourite level was the Ghosts level as it had the closest ambience to the novel. I didn’t enjoy the level with the Fourth Reich mainly because the level design felt too maze like. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the Library level because of the way the Librarian AI was designed. You are supposed to stop and stare them in the eye for them to not attack you and sometimes this worked but other times it didn’t work at all. When it worked it was a good tense level but that wasn’t the case often enough. The graphics were well done overall. The clothing; cobwebs; and animals were great. The object detail; fire; and facial detail was decent but the hair was pretty poor. The game also had great detail on your gas mask such as bugs crawling around it or it getting a bit foggy with sweat. I wish the game had a listing of your current objective. It gives you a compass telling you where to go but no listing of what to do once there. Sometimes this is obvious but other times it would have been helpful. I did like how the game allows you to customize what kind of experience you want by choosing not only your difficulty level but also giving you the option of the Spartan style of play which means less resource management.

    I tried to play on Linux but the Linux version was broken beyond use for me. The game was missing various options in the menu such as tessellation; as well as it ran at 30 FPS or below regardless of graphical detail selected. I tried on two separate systems and had the same result. I ended up playing the game using Valve’s Proton. This is how I know that the options menu lacked several options. Even on the Windows version there some issues such as V-Sync limiting your FPS to 60 instead of recognizing higher refresh rate monitors. Alt-tab worked on Windows but not on the Linux version. You can pause cut scenes but not skip them. You also have to wait during the intro videos to be able to skip them, you can’t do so right away even if you have already been playing the game a while. You can’t change the game difficulty after starting the game. The game saves at checkpoints and there is only one save slot. The performance on the Windows version was great. There were a couple glitches I encountered such as enemies clipping in doors as well as one occasion where I had defeated all the enemies in a room but my AI comrades wouldn’t advance any further making me unable to progress. I had to reload the checkpoint; clear the room again and then they moved normally. On the Windows version the game had 5 SSAA settings; 2 AF settings; a V-Sync toggle and 3 other graphics options.

    There was a good game here that I enjoyed but there were several ways it could have improved. The Linux version needs a lot of work for one. There is no excuse why Linux users lack the same options as Windows and even on the Windows version things like V-Sync capping your frame rate to 60 FPS is unacceptable. I read the novel right before playing the game and I have to say that while I prefer the novel’s atmosphere and story more the game is fine in it’s own right. I finished my play through on the normal difficulty of Spartan mode in 6 hours and 52 minutes. I would say the current price of $21.99 CAD is fair but that’s about the top end I would pay for it.

    An overrated game. Sure it has,some good stuff,but those are not original or truly creative. Those things that are good, already can be found in other postapocalyptic games like fallout. (atmosphere,some closeness to reality,story etc.)

    A rather solid shooter. A bit gray but I guess it's because of the setting and nothing can be done about it. The weapons feel very responsive. The UI is a bit of lacking and confusing. You do get used to it and it does help out with immersion - you have no idea how much health you have, the character starts coughing and chocking when needs a gas mas or to switch filter.

    Shooting people is very nice, monsters not so much but that might be just personal preference. The story is ok - not really captivating but not terrible - but fits the general atmosphere of the game and the setting. Some cut-scenes could have been avoided. The finishing sequence is also the only thing not fitting the whole setting.

    Overall I enjoyed the game. Jumped a couple of times as well. Disliked a couple of areas and really liked others.    … Expand

    7/10 because i experienced some bugs in the game. If i would not have had bugs then a solid 8/10 or even 9/10. This is a story driven atmospheric slow paced sneaky shooter. In a way if brings the mind to half life 2 even if it cant measure up to it fully. Characters are well done but a bit quickly discarded. But it makes sense since you are sneaking around in the subway tunnels of Moscow.

    The game looks more like a demo version before the next part. The karma system is also very strange in the game, which makes you play stealth, which is not very pleasant in a shooter.

    A Claustrophobic Russian Nightmare.

    The Good:
    +The stations are exquisitely detailed, bustling with activity.
    +The atmosphere.
    +Graphics.
    +Audio is similarly excellent. from subtle touches like the echo of all sounds in the tunnels, to the +Playing in Russian is a must.

    The Bad:
    -Linear, Linear, Linear.
    -The lack of a quicksave system.

    Story of the game is great, however there is no tutorial and I had troubles with things like charging flashlight, night vision or even burning web. In one point I actually thought that my game broke, while in fact I had to burn web to keep going (At that point I didn't even know that I have a lighter).     I can't understand why people like this game. I prefer games that actually lets me play them. In this game you're probably going to be confused for one half of the game and not in control of your character the other half of the game. An interactive novel with a light FPS mini-game? If that's your cup of tea, go ahead. I don't enjoy it.

At one point (the battle between the Reds and the Nazis) when I got into the Nazi area, all the soldiers were animated - but there were rooted to the spot and completely unable to engage in combat. Needless to say, it was pretty easy to get through that section of the game - but hardly any fun!    Love the game, and the atmosphere and tension is intact.

    Had some problems, though. At one point (the battle between the Reds and the Nazis) when I got into the Nazi area, all the soldiers were animated - but there were rooted to the spot and completely unable to engage in combat. Needless to say, it was pretty easy to get through that section of the game - but hardly any fun! Further, if I tried to kill a soldier with a knife, the game hung, requiring me to restore to the last checkpoint. Also had a couple of complete hangs, requiring me to kill the program.

    Fortunately, it hasn't ever locked up my machine requiring a reboot (Windows 8).

    Enjoyed the game, it's post apocaliptic feel could be a bit longer for my taste or not so linear. This game needs a bit more the feel of the older game forgot the name in chernobyl where we could go where we want. The game didn't felt so linear like this one altrought it had same wibe.

    Positive are the graphics, even if you play the game in 2020 its okay.
    What could be improved are the gun sounds.
    The movement of the enemies are definitely bad, also some quests are not very intuitive.

    Boring over-melodramatic start, nonsense propagandic middle and weak ending. Worst knife in gaming history - you won't hit anything, MC can defeat any human in CQC from one move, original weapons are straight from Fallout 4.

    On PC, there is no reason to have this because we already have the full graphics the consoles didn't get, and even though it adds seamless transitions through missions and new places to go, I don't want to sacrifice the stylization of the game because of how out of place everything looks in the redux. However, if PC is not available, by all means buy it on next gen.

    Never played the original so I cannot compare, however I enjoyed this game.
    Downside: it was very short (7 hours) and there were very few enemies in total.
    Upside: The graphics were good, the story was great, I even remember the characters name after finishing the game.
    Verdict: Worth playing.

    Good remaster of the classic game that has problems to stay as good as it was with the time. The story is bad but this is what Fallout wished to be in their most dark moments. Worth a play overall, it's short and the sequels are much better.

Но а как по мне Метро 2033, это некая проба пера чтобы в дальнейшем выпустить невероятный Исход.     Was a big fan of Metro Exodus so thought I may as well come back and experience where it all began. Game still holds up in 2022 and is a really enjoyable linear shooter.

Перечисленные вопросы и критика мне не показались раскрытыми достаточно хорошо, но это определённо плюс, что такое здесь присутствует.
    Играть же во всё это интересно. Перестрелки и стелс не надоедают, возможно, потому что они чередуются с «мирными» этапами, в которых мы можем спокойно послушать местные диалоги, выпить в баре, купить патроны и оружие. Когда я впервые бродил среди этих людей, занятых своими делами, болтающих о том о сём, я очень сильно погружался в здешнюю атмосферу. К сожалению, это чувство ближе к концу игры ослабевало, но тем не менее продолжало присутствовать. Вообще первые 30 минут игры для меня были каким-то откровением, я пророчил игре статус шедевра, но по итогу могу сказать, что я испытал умеренные и приятные чувства.
    Короче говоря, «Метро» - качественный и крепкий проект. Советую вам поиграть.    … Expand

I got sucked into this game at first and really enjoyed the first third immensely but after that it gets tedious and unforgiving as the enemies suddenly become extremely tough to tackle after the half way mark and you're basically forced into stealth gameplay which I reallyGreat looking levels and very atmospheric but the enemies are repetitive and annoying and the difficulty is uneven.     приятная графика, хорошая атмосфера, но есть небольшие проблемы с управлением, не всё интуитивно понятно. Сюжет классный до концовки где начинается какая-то мистика и Артему ломают психику Чёрные, про которых толком никакой информации не дали, не понятно как они это делают и что они вообще такое.    Не играл в оригинал, поэтому оценить игру как ремастер не могу, но Редукс получился хорошим.

    Not the best first person shooter, horror or story driven game you will ever play but it is a very good first person shooter, horror and story driven game that will keep you engrossed and on the edge of your seat throughout apart from when it has you jumping out of it. Every moment in the metro feels like a genuine fight for survival. Its a game that is well worth your time.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having just beaten the game my feelings on it are still somewhat mixed. I did enjoy my time battling through the metro and finding the collectibles littered throughout the game. However, at the same time, I couldn't help but feel like the game didn't try to allow you to feel the challenges of living in the metro for 20 years. You are only allowed a small glimpse into the living conditions of the inhabitants of the Moscow metro and that for me was a big letdown.

    Most of the game is about delivering the dog tags of a fallen Spartan and hurting down D6. Along the way, you'll face everything from Communists and Nazis to mutated rat-looking creatures big enough to eat a full grown man.

    The levels themselves are fairly basic. So long as you see something to kill odds are good that's the way to go to move to the next area. By the time I nuked the Dark Ones I didn't feel like I had saved the Metro from the Dark Ones namely because they didn't really matter until near the very end of the game. I mostly played this so I could say I beat all the games thus far and while I did have fun with the game it wasn't a must play for me.    … Expand

    Gunplay/Stealth

    -Plays well on PC. No issues but nothing out of the ordinary. Standard.

    -AI is standard and the Nosalis are bland for me.

    -Stealth is the best way to play this game but it is a bit clunky.

    Exploration

    -Linear style but you can approach stealthily or guns blazing. Again very standard.

    -I read lots about the game's atmospheric quality. But honestly it didn't resonate with me that much. If the post-apocalyptic vibe is your thing then for sure you will appreciate the game's atmosphere. Graphically and in terms of the visual tone I found it very bland looking. The game's colour palette is very dark and grim and honestly kind of ugly. Obviously, I understand the look they were going for as it is set in a post-apocalyptic world but even then the environments lack flavour.

    Narrative

    -I don't think the story is bad per se, nor do I think it is told poorly. It is just very average in terms of story telling. I understand that it has been inspired by the books and borrows some elements from it however it doesn't tell the story in a special way or anything. I think the cast is hit or miss.

    -Artyom's character has no development and no depth. He is a mute really and you can learn more about him by picking up notes in the game world. There is little to no emotional connection built with him. No reason to care for and about him.

    -The supernatural elements just didn't fit this game. I felt it was very out of place. I found it really sill to be honest. Even the character model/designs were really silly and they remind me of those gooey alien baby toys.

    Conclusion

    Overall, I think this game is highly rated by those who are fans of the post-apocalyptic genre. Even though I do not think this is a bad game by any means I do not think it is worthy of the lofty praises. It is a slow paced FPS shooter set in a particular environment.    … Expand

    but once you start running out of filters mid fight it starts to get aggravating, I’ll look past the running out of ammo a lot because that’s normal and can be fixed quickly by finding a dead body but the game becomes repetitive having to always be searching lockers and body’s just to find Some spare bullets to waste firing at groups of enemies.    … Expand

    I played this game before on my old system with medium graphic settings. I really liked the story and you really had to retry some situations and try to play them smarter and not waste any ammo. The atmosphere was great in underground cities. The people building their homes out of stuff they could find really made the game feel a lot more personal. However with my new system (Ryzen 9 5900xI played this game before on my old system with medium graphic settings. I really liked the story and you really had to retry some situations and try to play them smarter and not waste any ammo. The atmosphere was great in underground cities. The people building their homes out of stuff they could find really made the game feel a lot more personal. However with my new system (Ryzen 9 5900x / 6800XT) the game crashes either in the intro or if I delete it from the game files, in the main menu. Tried for three hours to fix it. I work in IT myself, so I would consider myself not a noob when working with games on a PC. I will try to fix it in the near future, but the fact that a lot of people having trouble even getting the game to run, made me give a rating of "mixed". Really would love to play this game again.     A great game with a fun gameplay and well adapted to the original material. Any person who has read the books i think will have a great experience playing this game. Graphics are outdated but that is not as important as a good story and gameplay i believe.

    I have played the original version of Metro 2033 on xbox 360 back in the days.
    This is a good remaster, gameplay is basically the same, graphic is pretty good.
    The plot is ok but the various missions are a little bit tedious and repetitive, go from point A to point B killing monsters and press a button or open a door.
    The game is pretty short, it took 9h to finish the game in normal difficulty.
