Very easy going, super immersive, fun first person shooter. The game holds your hand, but there is still a lot of stuff you can miss, including an alternate ending!

The world and the story pull you in harder than almost any other game, meanwhile the gameplay and content makes sure you enjoy the experience and feel in tune with the plot. A true must-play.

You can almost feel and smell the ecosystem of them. You will be felt to bone post-apocalyptic world. Like I wrote earlier, Atmosphere is that good.
In addition to that game play is smooth. Maybe stealth kills look a bit premature and sometimes it hard where to go in the map but other than that everything feels right.
A couple words for graphics: With new 4A Engine, Metro 2033 Redux shines. If you have PC to handle higher settings. you will find yourself playing one of the most beautiful looking post apocalyptic game ever created.
So Without doubt Metro 2033 Redux is one of the best game of 2014.
Read the novel!(it is also magnificent) Play the game.
Spasiva Dmitry Glukhovsky for giving us such rich fiction world and Thank you 4A Games for making one of the most atmospheric game out of that great novel.

I played this game without knowing what to expect... and wow was I blown away. I expected Metro 2033 to be your typical post-apocalyptic shooter, and although it did fit that description, it executed it unbelievably well.

The story is incredibly deep and well-written, and the atmosphere and realism are top-notch. You won't find many gimmicks in this game like you will in other games.

It's hard to describe the game because it's one of those games that you have to experience for yourself to understand how great it is.

The game comes with various difficulties and playstyles for you to fine-tune your experience. I personally played on Survivor Mode at Normal difficulty, but I think you can increase the realism further by playing on a harder difficulty.

The game easily deserves at least an 8, which is only weighed down by the ever-so-slightly-simplified gameplay, somewhat short length, and some glitches here and there. It's definitely a game all shooter fans should add to their repertoire.

This is a true Re-master that really deserves the title Re-master (Very Infrequent Indeed). Metro Redux keeps itself where what made the original Metro 2033 great and puts it all into the Metro Last Light engine. Making what was a prodigious game even better; first by making the game less Unstable, and making it more streamlined in its new game engine (where the original Metro 2033 still struggles to run smoothly on modern systems due to its un-streamlined game engine of the time). It also fixes the middle of the game ‘game breaking’ bug, in which you would be shot off the map when the player fell off the rail cart, requiring multiple reloads to fix (which was never patched in the original).

Along with all these improvements it also adds the great things from Last Light, such as the weapon customization and modernized weapon aiming, gunplay and control layout! This also includes bringing improved textures including for the character and enemy models from Last Light (which is a nice touch).

All while allowing you to play in the original Metro 2033 style of resource and ammo management, or you can play in a more action oriented fashion with Last Light's game style, In Redux both play styles are accommodated. Along with Ranger difficulty; which make you and your enemy’s more dangerous (something really never in other games like Call of Duty where the enemy is just more accurate).

All and all Metro 2033 is a classic (Mystery, Horror, Resource Management, Story Driven, Shooter) all of which I would express are done superbly. I have a great passion for the original Metro 2033 game when it released along with the Book Series, and this ‘Re-master’ makes it all for the better and improved! Metro 2033’s dark post-apocalyptic setting in the Moscow Metro is like a character in its self, and gives the game and it characters a great atmosphere. Highly recommended to try it out and find out why so many people love this series!

Pros: Story, Gunplay, Weapon Selection, Multiple ‘True’ difficulty settings (Play as you want to!)

Cons: Human Enemy AI (Is sometimes respectable sometimes not so much)

Middle: Linear Story Driven Game (Not recommend for those who love endless open world experiences)

The game is very atmospheric, diverse in gameplay, dynamic skirmishes with bandits at the stations are replaced by dark "tangled" tunnels, along the way we get acquainted with the far from sweet life of people in the post-apocalyptic world.
I now, not even about the constant attacks of mutated monsters on human settlements, but about a simple everyday life in which people live in a room consisting of one bed and only, and the children play with all sorts of rubbish or hammers.
Each character at the station has his own story behind his soul, his own thoughts, feelings.
Gameplay: I liked the attitude of the developers to the details. I really feel how they emphasized realism. The weapon is interesting and original, not very much, and you can only carry 3 small arms and 2 missile weapons with you, plus a knuckle-knife. There is no automatic reloading, if the last cartridge in the clip went into the barrel, wait for the misfire. Ammo is always small. Another interesting point is the powder smoke from the shot that obscures the view, which makes it difficult to make a subsequent shot, and it's cool. All enemies wear helmets, and more than half also wear gas masks. Therefore, you can kill such with a single shot right on the neck, side or back. Well, or knocking down this helmet first. But then the enemies will sound the alarm. Sometimes they will let you shoot with an easel machine gun and a flamethrower, a pleasant trifle.
As of 2014, I want to note the following advantages of the game: + Storey Line. Excellent, dynamic, moderately mysterious, storyline, on behalf of a person who lived his whole life underground in the subway.
+ Atmosphere. Metro and darkness. Apocalypse and hopelessness. Devastation and survival.
+ Gameplay. Skirmishes with human enemies are interesting. It is also possible to complete stealth levels. Enemies do not shine with a special variety, people, mutants. There is a certain variety in the methods of killing opponents. I really liked the use of cartridges as a currency. The presence of a limited duration of the gas mask. Powder smoke from a shot obscures the view. Dynamo machine for charging a flashlight and night vision device.
+ Artificial intelligence. Enemies are accurate, use cover, and throw Artem grenades.
+ Picture. Photographic, high-quality textures are pleasing to the eye.
+ Physics. Items in the game behave like in life. Mostly. And the overall picture is not spoiled.
+ Optimization is good. The game does not crash. But he eats resources extremely, and sags on the “qualifier”.
    Of the minuses are present:
    -The game is too short.
-Linear. No freedom of action and side tasks. - A stupid save system based on individual save points.
As a result, we get a pleasant, well-developed first-person shooter, with the possibility of repeated passage, to get an alternative ending and better assimilation of the plot. A game with a great atmosphere and an interesting plot.

Metro 2033 was a flawed, but good game. The Redux does a wonderful job of taking away those flaws while also updating the graphics, leaving us with a game that is great and feels modern despite its 4 1/2 year old underpinnings.. It is a shame that being a "remake" of a cult (i.e. not super popular) game it didn't get the press/critic coverage that it deserved.

P.S. If anyone's experiencing problems with starting either Metro Redux game (such as SethroFives' issue, where it crashes at the very beginning of the game), then follow the next few steps:

This is the fix I used to solve the issue:

    - Go into your Metro directory folder in steam and find the video folder (wherever it was downloaded, something along the lines of /SteamApps/common/Metro 2033 Redux/2033/ or /SteamApps/common/Metro Last Light Redux/)

    - Delete the file named "intro.ogv" (without the quotations)

    - Open notepad and save it as "intro.ogv" (without quotations)

    - Save the intro.ogv file you just made into those same folders the old intro.ogv files used to be in

    - Run the game. It should run without any more issue regarding crashes at the beginning of the game

The gameplay and atmosphere are top notch, but the audio side, especially the voice acting is quite underwhelming, when there are only like 5 voice actors with made-up accents voice acting every character in the game. Maybe the developers should have just used Russian voice actors with added English subtitles.

Overall, Redux presents itself in a way that makes the original seem like an unpolished, early access. At first, I felt like the devs were trying to milk their customers by reselling the game with a few tweaks, but after trying out a pirated copy for an hour, I see that they deserve my money. It's a proper remaster. The original already had a great story, amazing graphics, and unique gameplay. Redux is an improvement worthy of $25, especially if you've never played the original. On the PC version you can increase the FOV via config file, while on console you can't touch it. My largest complaint about Redux is the lens flares. I'm tired of this trend where the character's eyes are treated like a camera. Afaik there isn't a way to disable them. I appreciate the beefed-up graphics, but I hate unnecessary effects, like the moon in the prologue. I've found another unnecessary change... The part where a guy on the rails was about to get hit by a cart but dodged it because someone whistled at him, then everyone laughed. Sucks that it got taken out in Redux. It confuses me why it was taken out, buuuuut okay then. The rest of the game seems promising. I'll buy it asap. Money is stupidly tight for me right now. Expand

With great graphics, artistic visuals and excellent attention to detail, dark and mature storyline, intense atmosphere amplified by realistic gameplay elements, this is the only game which makes you feel like you really are in a post apocalyptic world fighting for survival.

Redux being my first foray into Metro 2033 (although having played Last Light on the PS3), the game is exceptional. Played on its most difficult (and rewarding) level, Ranger Hardcore, the game is: at all times tense with your need to plan an enemy encounter as to not run through your precious supply of ammo (which also acts as the game world's currency); and atmospheric with theRedux being my first foray into Metro 2033 (although having played Last Light on the PS3), the game is exceptional. And although there is must more to this game than the tense encounters and atmosphere, those two are perhaps the games strongest attributes - and really make it shine. Expand

    Reviewing in 2017.

Finally finished this game (actually played after Last Light) What can I say? Well, it is worse than the sequel for sure. Atmosphere: amazing Lore and the world:very good gunplay:great But I did not like the ending and all missions leading to the ending (i.e. last 3 missions). It removed me from being a badass Artyom into a soldier who follows orders. What I

What I can definitely say is that story and everything surrounding you is way more interesting than you.
Really hard to give a representative score. One of the best FPS games ever made.

Metro 2033 Redux is a good game: sound and visuals are great and they create amazing atmosphere, interesting mix of Fallout and Stalker. Gunplay is satisfying and exploration is as good as it can be in a strictly linear game.
On the other hand, the game has way too many bugs for something that has word Redux in its name and stealth mechanics are not very good.

One of the most atmospheric and immersive first person shooters of recent years becomes even better, by enriching its gameplay, normalizing its performance and enhancing its graphics, with the use of the latest 4A engine features. Its main disadvantage is the discontinuation of price discount for those who already own the original Metro 2033 upon official release.

A valuable remake that makes the original Metro feel complete on PC.
