Sep 1, 2020Despite some technical limitations, low longevity and lack of replayability, Metamorphosis is a game full of passion and respect for the novels that inspired it. A budget-priced game that every gamer who loves Kafka's works should offer a chance.
-
Aug 14, 2020Metamorphosis is a good time with great visuals and an excellent atmosphere. But it's super short and the storytelling isn't quite as good as it could be.

Aug 13, 2020Metamorphosis manages to whip up an impressive tribute to Franz Kafka in its quick story thanks to its offbeat sense of humor, style and eye-catching world. It’s just a shame that the game flounders when it comes to figuring out how merge together the various gameplay aspects needed to keep going in this tale of transformation. Still, it does have enjoyable platforming and a few surprises here and there, so if you have about three to four hours to kill, this is a crash course in abridged Kafka worth checking out.

LEVEL (Czech Republic)Oct 7, 2020Unconventional mixture of adventure and platformer is seasoned with a lot of true Kafka-like bizarreness, which makes Metamorphosis interesting especially for those who are familiar with the author's work. [Issue#306]

Sep 11, 2020Its polished presentation and unusual premise make for a promising start to Metamorphosis, but the shallow gameplay and increasingly abstract direction prove to be something of a buzzkill.

Aug 12, 2020If you’re after a short platforming adventure with a story that will make you think just as much as the odd puzzle, you’d be wise to give Metamorphosis a try. It won’t wow you or set your world on fire, but it is interesting and inventive. It’s quite a laid-back experience too as there’s no combat. Just be prepared for it to somehow feel like it outstays its welcome at times, before hurtling to a conclusion at great speed.

Aug 12, 2020While Metamorphosis' short running time robs its story of a lot of room to breathe, that's somehow not the strength of this work so inspired by literary greatness. The short campaign is a boon, as there are just enough memorable moments and beautiful vistas to recommend the title. Above all else, Metamorphosis feels like a proof of concept for the team at Ovid Works. This striking art hits well above the game's weight, and it's easy to picture the developer's next project transforming into a big surprise at some future publisher showcase.

Sep 25, 2020Metamorphosis is a true homage to the works of Franz Kafka… but at the same time, it’s not a very good game. Try it out if you adore Kafka already, but everybody else should grab one of his books instead.
