This game is fantastic. Thank you EA. There are errors in the animations, but this does not take away all the brightness of the game. Play to the end and I guarantee you will be surprised.

It's a shame for the mass effect series. The game I could never finish, no matter how much I wanted to. As someone who has played the trilogy dozens of times, I couldn't stand this game. The people who developed this game should not be given a job in the game industry again.

Yes it has some bugs and yes it is not a perfect game. But it has so much to discover and such a big galaxy to explore. There are a lot of quests and the fight system is a lot of fun. this game does not deserve the bad reviews it got. i had a lot of fun playing this game multiple times and would love to see more of this fascinating galaxy!

Mass Effect: Andromeda offers a fresh take in a universe I've grown to love. While I appreciated the new worlds and challenges, there's a part of me that truly misses the original Mass Effect vibes and, of course, Commander Shepard. Still, BioWare gave us an expansive game worth diving into.

Don't listen to all the haters! This is an epic game with a deep and completely new and authentic story taking place in the Mass Effect universe that'll keep you occupied for weeks (80+ hours total play time).

The game isn't a bad game game, combat mechanics and weapon types are good. But it has same mobs types, bosses and planet desings. It has not original map desings. The game says that you can discover 100 planets. But you can't land on a lot of these planets. Also planet maps are so boring and empty. It doesn't satisfy expectations if you like to play open world type games.

One of the worst games ever made, everything is broken, the animations are nightmare inducing, the voice acting, the characters the scripting. This game belongs on a trash heap.

Good game.. Would love a continuation. Own a couple of versions. Overhyped marketing campaign (like CP 20777) ruined the sales. I hate unfinished stories....

Really buggy game, that further rolled back on its game design ideologies, instead of improving upon the first 2 mass effects. I can understand giving the story a side step to the main because of the controversies of ME3 and also they are in the midst of making a true ME4.

But it was a huge let down, and I just hope they learn from their feedback, so ME4 will be a big success.

I absolutely adore the original Mass Effect trilogy. The story, the worldbuilding, the characters… chefs kiss. So you can imagine my excitement over Andromeda. I heard the complaints from the pre-release footage. The game looks like garbage. Nay I said, Mass Effect was never about the graphics. Yo this thing is buggy as hell. Nay I said, they will fix it before launch. The voice acting sounds goofy as hell. Nay, you are just being negative. I was a blind Bioware fan boy who pre ordered this game and 100% it at release. I have never touched it since so I do not care if the stuff I am about to talk about was patched three months later. Save your breath.

Positive beginning. The fact that you have access to all abilities and can spec into any of them allows for some fun combos. Positives done.

The combat. Everything in this game is either brainded or suicidal. Zero strategy involved throughout the entire run. Just stupid enemy after stupid enemy. The issue with the one positive, the place it affects is boring and garbage. Oh and that is not the best part. Most of the time if enemies are deployed from their ship onto the field, nothing deploys. When the ship leaves, it leaves a cluster of limbs where it was. If you shoot it, then bodies fall out. Great playtesting Bioware.

What about the story? What about it? Garbage. So you know how Reapers were an unknown force who used their tech to turn the Milky Way species into their tech drones. Yeah we can't do that again nu uh. Guys the Kett are different. They are an unknown force who uses their organic goop to turn the species of the Andromeda galaxy into their organic drones. Wow, how original Bioware.

But the characters save it right? This game has four character types: aggravating, boring, cringe and meh ok. I have never cared less for a group of party members in my life. I actively wanted to space bothe Liam and Peebee after their loyalty missions. I don't expect much but at least the original cast was filled with professionals. Both Liam and Peebee put the Pathfinders life into stupid amounts of danger with their dumbass decisions. And Liam has the audacity to open his mouth after you fix his mistake. Just allow me to kick them to the curb like Serra in DA: Inquisition.

I actually fell for the marketing ploy when it came to dialogue. They proudly flaunted their innovative take on the Mass Effect dialogue wheel. How Paragon/Renegade was restrictive. So they came up with the tone indicators of: Professional, Logical, Emotional and Casual. What I like to call them is: Actual human speak, Sheldon Cooper, Angsty Cringe and OhgodohnoohpleaseididnotwanttopressthatstoptalkingstOPSTOP. Pick professional or suffer the consequences.

How about those Mass Effect choices. Ok so how about a guy running to get away from you? Do you not press the contextual button to shoot him in the back or do you press it only for you to miss and for him to get away anyway? Do you choose to shoot at a bunch of dudes intimidating you or do you hold off until they shoot and start the fight anyway? No choices like Andromeda choices.

Planet exploration was made stupider by a large margin. This game is extremely self indulgent and determined to show you its mediocre graphics in their full glory. So whenever you chose to travel planet to planet, you pick the planet you want to go to, then it zooms to the planet where you are, only for it to play a cutscene of your ship traveling to your chosen planet, where it zooms in, before zooming back out and giving you your control back. No way to skip that by the way. And there are systems with six planets and more. Have fun.

On top of all of this, this game released in such a disgustingly buggy state, that some of the most watched videos on this game, are the glitch compilations. How great.

In conclusion, I am somebody who loves collecting physical copies of games. Andromeda was so beyond garbage, that I got rid of my copy. Not by returning it, but by throwing that thing in the trash. Nobody deserves the psychological torture that is this game. Do not play it, do not touch it, do not look it in the eyes.

Gunplay is better and it is also pretty vertical with jumping now.
the sidemissions in the older games were top tier missions and I loved every single one of them.
here it is quantity over quality...

they also brought back the old problem that mass effect 1 had, the long useless walking to one point to another.

Mass Effect 2 fixed it and here it is back again..

also my main problem is our Protagonist "Ryde"r. He is a Cuck and would be a side character that Shepard would have killed in the older games.

I really miss the old games, they were such gems.
I hate the current gaming industry so much.

In my opinion, one of the worst things people had with the game is that the Mass Effect concept was no longer new and fresh. I really hope Bioware revisits the Andromeda story, it's a cool concept and being an explorer attempting to build new worlds is refreshing instead of constantly trying to save the galaxy. My oldest son refused to play this game because of the negative reviews and is currently playing his first playthrough and he really likes it. Expand

The story was fantastic, the gameplay was brilliant, and nearly all the characters were really interesting and great. (Liam is inconsistent). Kallo and Lexi had more character and better showings then Joker and Chakwas ever did across three games. And as usual, the Krogan are well done and well written.

it also felt like the Asari bias that I picked up on in the OT wasn't there, which was also great.

The gameplay was of course fantastic and fun, and SAM was a pleasant and entertaining companion with his straight man routine. lol

Overall, this game was fantastically made and should get the credit it deserves. Plus, it was nice to get away from the Reapers in general.

    - the story had too few epic moments, it was predictable and I wasn't motivated enough to push on
    - too much meaningless side missions, conquering the planets had 0 creativity it could have been a great mechanic to find homes and manage them even with a bit of strategy but this was just repetitive
    - research & development, gear, crafting by far the worst system, too complex, 0 motivation to dive into it
    - graphically pretty great the planets looked awesome, character models were awesome too but face mimics 50% of the time strange
    - reworked dialogue system: just bad, no real persuasion, no consequences of any choices, I understand the old paragon-renegade system was very predictable but this was even worse and weightless
    - leveling and skills got a bit too complex too, not polished
    - level design could have been more creative
    - running movement just clunky, jetpack actually good
    - combat is worse then mass effect 1, these ammo and health pickups are unnecessary, spells are looking great tho
    - teammates were pretty good however cant compare to any of the original trilogies
    - villains: WTF generic 2 dimensional with 0 motivation, poses no danger actually
    - music: nonexistent, generic, even so compared to the tunes of the trilogy

It doesnt deserve the hate it got when it came out so I added a bit higher score, the game is enjoyable as a sci-fi RPG, at first playthrough I was a bit more eager to find out the story but the game had huge potential and only covered like 40% of the expectations.
I really love this franchise and I'm hoping the creators will learn from these mistakes and we can enjoy this universe for a lot more years.

Im at a loss of what to rate this game, at times it can feel like a 7/10 but 80% of the time it feels like a 3/10. This is not mass effect, its a game made by a bunch of people that werent involved in the original series trying to make what they think is mass effect. Im still waiting for the story to do something interesting, and im 20 hours in. It plays it incredibly safe, probably because bioware feels like they are being held at gunpoint over ME3s ending when it comes to taking a risk with the story. But even if they did take risks, the writing is laughably bad, and the characters dont take what is happening seriously at all. This completely breaks any immersion. In past mass effect games i would love talking to squad mates on my ship, in this i actually dread talking to anyone except drack and Jaal, they are the only characters that arent constantly making me cringe with horrible jokes and cheesy one liners.

The combat is great, but when you fight the same camps of kett over and over it becomes extremely repetitive. since mass effect 3 bioware has liked to create these bad guys that are just endless, you'll be killing thousands of the same dudes over and over with no narrative or reason for it. and your squad mates AI is downright brain dead, in past games they wouldn't use throw, pull or any biotic power on enemies that have shields. In this they dont care, ive had peebee use pull on more shielded enemies than health enemies. And you cant command her to do other wise, so shes basically wasting powers the second combat starts. same applies to other squad mates. Not being able to command squad mate powers is a huge downside to gameplay and its great moments, i have no idea why they didnt include it.

QUESTS; i have encountered maybe 3 interesting side quests, out of the around 30 i have done. Everything is run to this location, place this item and then do that for 4 more locations. Quest ends. Repeat under slightly different conditions, like instead of placing signal towers, your scanning rocks. These side quests are the definition of repetitive. I just think its funny that bioware thought this was acceptable after games like The witcher 3 proved that side quests can have the same quality as main quests, and be just as interesting.

Im not going to mention facial animations as much, yes they are terrible some of the worst i have seen from a AAA game in years. but since people have been bashing them to death i thought i wouldn't touch on them anymore. Honestly the game could have been good if it had done other things right, like if the game had an interesting story i could look past the facial animations. Its also to bad that bioware continues their same tired tale of you playing as this God character, i thought the pathfinder would be a down to earth normal dude. Nope. All the characters in this game basically suck your dick, nobody stands up to you and when they do its so laughably and cliche.

To end things, i would like to note my biggest problem. Andromeda never feels alive. Most worlds are completely empty with just more generic enemies to fight, no towns or settlements (besides the ones you create and fill with NPCs that do nothing). with one new friendly race, the angara things feel even more empty. Look at all the races we had in the original trilogy that were working together on the citadel, youll find none of that here. Plus lore inconsistency galore, why do we have jump jets when the milky way doesnt? how are we able to use FTL travel so much, and so fast when in the trilogy the only reason we could get around the galaxy so fast was because of mass relays? FTL has always existed but it in ME but it was much faster to use a mass relay rather than travel for hours to another system on your ships power.

Edit 2022: funny i just found this account again, funny to see this here. It took me 2 years to finish this game. It didn't take me that long in a good way, i would either forget about the game for long periods or just couldn't stomach it for longer than an hour. I 100% completed the game and absolutely don't recommend it. Its a grind. This was also the last game i ever pre ordered. Still think this review echo's these statements 5 years later, even when i wrote this with 20 hours of playtime... these issues definately dont change by the end.
