If for some reason you needed more proof that Bioware is a now corpse-shell worn by unqualified SWJs pretending to be real developers, here is your Exhibit A through to F.

Horrible writing, awful combat and animation bugs we would mock in an indy title let alone a full price triple-A release. Utterly disgraceful.

This game is being unfairly destroyed. I am a fan of the saga and when you play it you feel you are playing a Mass Effect. I recommend you to buy this game if you really like Mass Effect 1 and 2. But if you are looking for something similar to ME: 3, don't buy it.

Continuiamo così...continuiamo a comprare.

Not a Mass Effect game. I'll put it like this: bad writing, terrible animations, decent game play (that's why it has 4/10) , but this is not Mass Effect. Better find a new brand name for this.

    Ah well.

I'm a little over 22 hours in and I am having a blast. I have no idea what people are talking about. The facial expressions (especially the eyes) are a little wonky, certainly, but the story / gameplay is super fun. It DOES take a bit of time to get to the main gist of the game, how all the components work, etc... (there is a LOT in this game, something we can all agree on). It's a big game...

Outside of some odd facial expressions and body movements during dialogue (eye roll), this game is flipping BEAUTIFUL. One of the best looking games I've ever played (saying a lot). Just amazingly gorgeous. The voice acting is superb, even if some of the writing sounded like it came from a 12 year old. While some here are talking about that, I've only noticed one or two things that made me stop and say "gah, they could have written something less cringeworthy there." To suggest ALL of the writing is bad would be dishonest beyond belief.

I think most of the criticisms here stem from this game not being the most perfectest Witcher 3 killer bestgameever right at launch, and only because expectations were so high for a beloved series. But I'm telling you... this game is massive, fun, gorgeous and is most definitely a very good game.

As you played with the main protagonist you really felt that every NPC and squad mates had a background and personal motivations which were revealed through well written dialogue. Actual game-play was functional enough (though restrictive) but I saw it only a way to forward the story. Antagonists felt like a real threat and they had their individual motivations to fight against the player. Afterwards I've imagined that Saren and Illusive Man would work fine as a playable characters in their own separate games.

ME: Andromeda stumble at crucial points but here's the biggest issue: Weak narrative. In ME-trilogy dialogue was there to push the story forward. If it wasn't then the dialogue built the characters and gave an insight to their background and motives for the player.

Andromeda fails the narrative and there is a reason for this which is weak directing by Mac Walters. He is a great writer (no doubt about that) but doesn't seems to know how to enliven written to a game world properly. It's a pity because the story, characters and dialogue has a huge promising which is never used properly.

After the poorly delivered story there is only a 3rd person shooter-RPG which is great but repetitive. Visuals are also great but unpolished from time to time. I had not game breaking bugs but a lot minor ones mostly with animations and scripting errors.

Summary: A huge disappointment for a Mass Effect fan but a decent shooter-RPG for a newcomer.

I really wanted to like this game, the series only got better after the original Mass Effect, and after a 5 year wait I had high hopes and expectations. I've played about 20 hours now and unfortunately it seems the wind in the sails of the series died out long ago (I'll update the review if any of that changes, but at this point I don't think I can take more punishment from this game without some major fixes). From funky animations, homely looking uninteresting characters, to a questionable story and boring repetitive gameplay. To make matters worse, the different parts of the game don't even mesh real well with one another; it's like the different teams of people that worked on different parts of the game failed to ever communicate with one another. It has left the game at launch to be one big dysfunctional mess.

Starting out it goes wrong real quick before you even enter the game. The default characters are certainly nothing to write home about, male Ryder is salvageable, but Female Ryder looks plain bad. Attempting to fix it in the CC is no easy task either. You cannot modify the default faces and the preset CC faces are one step above abominations. Once you decide upon a face, again another challenge presents itself in the form of a very simplistic CC, there aren't many options available and whatever you come up with will always resemble the preset face.

The poorly implemented animations hit you almost immediately and continue throughout. From odd facial expression to no expression at all, lifeless hands, strange walking behavior, and the biggest offender, poor lip-syncing to the dialogue, it plain out doesn't look good. It fails to suspend disbelief and for a game based on so much dialogue is difficult to get past. Aside from animations, graphically the game holds up, nothing mind-blowing or spectacular, but by no means bad. The landscaping is nice and much of the game looks good enough to immerse yourself in, the problem here is the characters stick out rather badly. They are cartoonish, waxy, and in some cases downright inhumanly ugly. The aliens naturally look better, mostly because there isn't a frame of reference for exactly "how" they should look, the humans are simply ridiculous. Some of them look like they were taken strait out of The Old Republic and just had new textures slapped on them.

Gameplay is okay at points and boring at others. The combat is familiar and largely unchanged from ME3, aside from the addition of the jet pack. The Nomad is okay to drive for about 10 minutes but quickly starts feeling more like a family van on a road trip than an APC. The lack of weapons was a terrible mistake and after awhile just getting in and out to fight things becomes a chore. The original developers dumped it for a reason; it should have stayed in the garage. The mini-games/puzzles are horrendously boring/frustrating, Sudoku, really? and mining for things, well I'm just not going to mine (really what was wrong with the orbital probe?) Missions are at best mildly entertaining and at worst mindless tedium, too much fetch filler and pointless dead-ends.

The story, at least to the 20ish hour mark is less than stellar. It takes a long time to get going and once it does, it feels more like the buildup to an aborted launch than an actual liftoff. It doesn't have the urgency or charm of the original series and it doesn't help that it is being played out by largely uninspired characters. The main antagonist seems more like a speed bump instead of that giant imposing stop sign that makes you take pause at what your are up against.

The developers it seems were out to make a game of a grand scope and scale and in doing so failed to see the little things that passed right by the wide angle lens they were using. Mass Effect was never about having vast landscapes to explore or tons of mindless things to do. It was about the story and characters, and the interaction of those two that made Mass Effect special. By attempting to make such a grand scale game they lost sight of that and ended up with a grand mess. What would have been wrong with simply making a Mass Effect game? Why try to turn it into something it is not, something that other games do so much better?

The Turian voice acting... is ok. The story doesnt hit me as well as the old series did, nor does the overall concept of it. Very few enemy types leads to repetitive combat. They took some of the better elements that mass effect 1 had, and tried to combine it with the elements that mass effect 2 did right... And for some reason, they failed at all attempts.

The nice thing is it is more open world, the movement is very nice and well tuned (least on the player side, animations are still hilarious at best), and the research system feels worthwhile... downside is everything is repetitive, very few enemy types, weapons feel completely useless, etc. I would say it has potential to be good... but right now, the damage system is my biggest complaint.. IT FEELS LIKE DRAGON AGE INQUISITION, WHICH I DISLIKED ALL TOGETHER!!!!!

While my love for the series as a whole has tempered my opinion to this game, I can honestly say for certain that after about fifteen hours into it I'm still enthralled. As Ryder, I've been taking my time exploring what the new setting has to offer, and have been going through the missions one step at a time. It's really taken hold of me, and I can't wait to see the end. (I've heard it's disappointing, but I'll let my own judgement decide that for me)

That being said, the game has issues. Lots of issues. Glitches, animation bugs, questionable design choices...The set pieces are nice, the RPG aspects of the Mass Effect series seem to be making a return from the original, the character customization might be a bit lacking in the appearance department and the...female models definitely leave a lot to be desired. These slightly mar the experience a bit, but it's definitely not enough to give this game anything below a 5 or a 6-point score.

Rather than giving it a point, though, what I want to do is RECOMMEND THIS GAME FOR PURCHASE. It's not perfect, and the whole experience is kind of hampered by the fact that (1) a lot of folks were expecting so much and (2) it's riding off of the coat-tails (and the controversy that follows it) of Mass Effect 3, but I sincerely hope that they give Ryder their own trilogy to rival the original. There's a lot they can learn from with this game, and I hope they take those experiences to make the next one event better.

But I would argue that we need to view this as a new game. Aside from the physics and the races nothing is left of the of the original galaxy. No Shepard, no Normandy crew, no Reapers or Geth etc etc. This is important to consider. Aside from Sovereigns monologues and the warnings we had not much in terms of opposition. Saren was not that scary or good in my opinion. The Archon is a piece of work and fighting him at several turns is good and you feel accomplished when you escape
The characters are as always partly hit and miss. Some people hated Kaiden while they liked Ashley and vice versa. Most people hated Taylor and yes, he was the most boring character. We have one of those here too though his loyalty mission was good. The other characters are fleshed out. There is more comedy good in some cases unwarranted in others. I'm certain they will adress this later on.
The most glaring problem I have is that the writing of the dialog is on sadly many places a bit childish. I know this game is tailored to mostly young people and I'm no longer a child like when the first game came out though sometimes it can be cringe worthy listening to and I hope they will fix this in the future.
The Voice acting is as always very good and only suffers due to the less than stellar dialog. Mostly it works though.

The gameplay in my opinion is very good. The addition of jetpacks adds another dimension that has been lacking and the adaptability the player can enjoy if they want it is very good and also explained well. This was a concern I had but the combat system is better than in the original trilogy.

The face animations are not always spot on. That only concerns Human and Asari animation. The eyes are sometimes a problem but I think that's a bug but might be wrong. The Frostbite engine isn't good when it comes to faces but when I consider Vetra, Kallo and Drack I think they did well. Kallo's face close up looks almost lifelike.

The exploration is well done. But it suffers from scale. It's a bit too big but consider how it was in Mass Effect 1. Mostly empty planets. This is bigger and is their second attempt. Consider the influence the Dragon Age team might have had so its natural it might emulate it. Smaller scale might have been good but you need to see the planets.

Overall its a good start to a new trilogy and I'll hang around Bioware's games for a good while. They all have their issues in some ways but always deliver a very enjoyable experience in the end . Good job :)

This game, while not perfect and flawed in many ways, is still a Mass Effect game at heart and a damn good one at that. Currently I have not finished the game and am nowhere close and that is because I have already become so immersed in the world of Andromeda that I have literally done almost every single side quest i have run across. This game meets every single criteria you would expect from a Mass Effect game, great characters, compelling story and political turmoil, challenging decisions and in addition to that an amazing combat system. While the game does have its flaws and could have used some polish the animations are way overblown. Yes, sometimes they might be super distracting but I find that very rare. the one other thing I want to point out is that if you enjoyed Renegade in the original trilogy you, unfortunately, will be very disappointed. Your character while still molded around how you want to be cannot be the a**hole you made Shepard. Besides that i think Andromeda succeed as not only a being a good video game but a good Mass Effect game and if you are a fan of the series I highly recommend picking up a copy. Also for those of you saying the quests are boring, yes the actual side content might be boring, it is masked behind a compelling backstory, each and everyone, that makes each worth while and for those of you saying the writing is bad it is in noway worse than the original trilogy. My one other gripe with it is some iffy voice acting but considering there are over 1200 voiced characters, a few being iffy is okay and does not warrant a 4.2 score... not even close. Expand

THESE REVIEWS ARE FAKE. READ WHY.

FIRST: There's an army of upset Trump supporters because a "SJW" who says mean things about white people is the game's main designer. They are flooding the page to give 0's,

SECOND: think about it! Assassin’s Creed Unity was a bigger shambles graphically, Destiny was in development for a similarly long time and had a worse ‘story’ in the core game, and No Man’s Sky was so far wide of the mark it’s nor even funny. And yet all three didn’t garner as much vitriol and are/were fixed through patching and DLC. Is it really fair that a AAA game like Andromeda is being judged on the merits of a generous 10-hour trial and deeper reviews of what is still not the final experience?

This game is phenomenal. Read my full honest review here -- https://reviewhonesty.wordpress.com/2017/03/22/first-blog-post/

This game was just released! And small bugs with animations won't ruin everything!
People , come on give this game a chance! I bought this game only because I LOVED it.

Hacking game is Alien Space Sudoku.

    Sudoku.

Along with everything else that has been repeated, that one thing sums up the utter lack of imagination the EA Interns had when designing this game.

If only they'd applied the same amount of effort to the rest of the game, that they did to the sex scenes...

From reading many of the early reviews I was afraid that I would regret my pre-order but I am enjoying the game just fine and feel that my pre-order was not a mistake. To me the game is a mixed bag of things I miss from the original series (mainly the combat controls of my team) to the new additions I enjoy...well ok, the jump jetpack is really fun and that's about it.

    The awful

The awful animations just make me chuckle and mostly I just ignore them. It's a shame that the game's animations look worse than the original Mass Effect game that came out 10 years ago. Shame on Bioware. To me the one thing that makes or breaks this game is the boss battles. Which style of boss battle do you enjoy? Witcher III style (learn how to properly equip your character and conduct the fight then prepare to mash the same controls over and over for 15-20 minutes to win the fight and if you make a mistake at any point and die start all over from the beginning) or Fallout 4 style (learn what weapon options you have and use the right one and it's over in 30 seconds or less)?? The design decision to make the boss battles long drawn out repetitious affairs will result in my uninstalling the game like I did with Witcher III and never playing it again.

Bioware did a nice job with the different planets and the game looks really nice and everything seems fine with the gameplay as I have basically had no issues with it. The writing is not as bad as most people seem to think. It's ok, not outstanding by a long shot but not awful either. If you enjoyed playing the original series I think you will enjoy this game just fine even at the current $60 price if you can get past the long drawn out boss battles.

Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.

Enough of the classic Mass Effect, with enough new mechanics to keep the game fresh. [Hollingworth; Issue#261, p.55]

An earnest attempt has been made to create a new identity for a series here, but the question of how to best frame Mass Effect's narrative strengths is, once again, left open. [June 2017, p.90]
