Yes it has some bugs and yes it is not a perfect game. But it has so much to discover and such a big galaxy to explore. There are a lot of quests and the fight system is a lot of fun. this game does not deserve the bad reviews it got. i had a lot of fun playing this game multiple times and would love to see more of this fascinating galaxy!

Mass Effect: Andromeda offers a fresh take in a universe I've grown to love. While I appreciated the new worlds and challenges, there's a part of me that truly misses the original Mass Effect vibes and, of course, Commander Shepard. Still, BioWare gave us an expansive game worth diving into.

Don't listen to all the haters! This is an epic game with a deep and completely new and authentic story taking place in the Mass Effect universe that'll keep you occupied for weeks (80+ hours total play time).

Good game.. Would love a continuation. Own a couple of versions. Overhyped marketing campaign (like CP 20777) ruined the sales. I hate unfinished stories....

In my opinion, one of the worst things people had with the game is that the Mass Effect concept was no longer new and fresh. I really hope Bioware revisits the Andromeda story, it's a cool concept and being an explorer attempting to build new worlds is refreshing instead of constantly trying to save the galaxy. My oldest son refused to play this game because of the negative reviews and is currently playing his first playthrough and he really likes it. Expand

The story was fantastic, the gameplay was brilliant, and nearly all the characters were really interesting and great. (Liam is inconsistent). Kallo and Lexi had more character and better showings then Joker and Chakwas ever did across three games. And as usual, the Krogan are well done and well written.

it also felt like the Asari bias that I picked up on in the OT wasn't there, which was also great.

The gameplay was of course fantastic and fun, and SAM was a pleasant and entertaining companion with his straight man routine. lol

Overall, this game was fantastically made and should get the credit it deserves. Plus, it was nice to get away from the Reapers in general.

Perhaps the point here is that my first part was Andromeda and therefore such a general attitude to the entire series of the project, but as I did not try, I could not master the 2nd and 3rd parts. Builds and pumping, combat mechanics, interface, graphics, controls and the most disgusting, faces and their animations. God, but all the games from BioMusor in terms of faces have degraded for whole generations, only because of this it is impossible to at least try to go through part of the content of their projects, when you see these lifeless faces during emotional moments that scream in your soul to be killed and buried deeper to the bottom, even Skyrim in this regard looks like the purest emerald against their background, although there are plenty of problems with faces. I also no longer understand the solution to the existence of the project from the 3rd person, when the mechanics, the world around, everything looks like it would be perfect for a first-person view, and not far from the truth, I ran with an amateur mod from the 1st person to the 2nd part and got a new inspiration, in some understanding the attitude to the project has changed dramatically, but the mod does not work for the action and therefore I had to demolish the game, although no, just nerves could not stand seeing these faces and the interface of 2000. As much as I don't like Tali'zora, but even for her sake it's impossible to overcome. I downloaded a pseudo remake of all the parts, which rather looks like an attempt to make BioMusor money on a trilogy of their games, absolutely without investing, yes, they improved the graphics in 1 part, but everything, not gameplay changes, not adding a 1-person view, not changing faces, although no, they changed, for the worse, my God, when they fire those responsible for the development of faces. Of course, I do not claim that Andromeda is godlike, the same ending, boss on the last difficulty, grind, pseudo stories in absolutely all documents about strong and independent women, animation of the ship's flight that cannot be skipped, in general, a feeling of emptiness in the project, the absence of a @ex scene with Vetra, from which there is a desire to break through G... to the management of BioMusor, ahem, yes, there are a lot of problems, but the project as a whole feels like a really new experience, when the characters really express emotions, in the history of which you really delve into, and Mass2, in which Miranda kills a traitor and stands with a flattened stone face, this creature is even impossible to describe, the embryo that they decided to leave alive, if there was a choice, I would get rid of her even in the very initial prologue. But as they say, one "especially gifted" will never understand the herd, and why the herd of 2 parts threw 8.9, and Andromeda 5.0. Expand

First of all, I'd like to say that this is the first Mass Effect game that I've played, so I cannot compare it to the trilogy. I've played around 60 hours and have to say that, despite some minor glitches, the game is really interesting and kept me involved in the story. The graphics are really great, the ending quite good and, overall, it has been a great experience.

And assessing the game as a whole with a fresh look without getting hung up on the some details, then as by me - it's the best of all parts - graphics, history, game-play, immersion in the Sci-Fi world - everything is better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I have replayed Mass Effect: Andromeda while waiting for the Legendary Edition. It's now been fully patched and it is in a much better position than it was at launch. But to be honest, it wasn't as bad at launch as some people would have you believe. At least in my experience, there were some mediocre animations for one NPC and some superficial glitches that didn't impact the flow of the game. Nothing gamebreaking.

The Mass Effect trilogy is one of the best game series ever made. They are also my favorite games. And the fact that it's a trilogy allowed the characters to develop their charactermuch better and to be more fleshed out over the course of the games. The overarching story and the characters are what makes Mass Effect amazing.

So there were high expectations for Mass Effect: Andromeda. And Andromeda is actually a pretty good game. Given the big shoes it had to fill after the original trilogy, and the fact that the studio was inexperienced and this was a very ambitious project, not the mention they were constrained by time, it is a wonder the game is this good.

What I like in Andromeda is the gameplay. It's quick, fluid, responsive and satisfying. However, I do not like the fact that you can only have 3 active abilities at any given time. But I understand they did it because of the profile system. I simply wish I had more abilities so that I can make combos, especially since you cannot manually activate your companions' abilities. This is something I don't like. I assume most players would let the companions automatically use their abilities, but they should have at least given us the option. I also love the jetpack and the jetpack dashes, which gave combat a new dimension. Because of that, the combat felt more intense. You aren't stuck behind cover anymore, you could move around the battlefield more easily.

Also, the Architect fights are epic.

I liked the crafting system, too. I crafted all my armor and weapons, I added mods and augmentations. There is a decent variety of weapons, but I mostly sticked with the Sweeper because of the infinite ammo. It also reminded me of the heat system in Mass Effect 1. And I do prefer the heat system to the clip system. Also, crafted weapons are so much better than the ones you find.

The Nomad drives excellently. You can upgrade its engine, shields and life support system. You have an all-wheel drive to climb hills and a mode where the stability assist is disabled for increased agility. It would be extremely unfair to compare it to the Mako for obvious reasons, but the Nomad simply feels great.

The graphics are beautiful. There is a large variety of planets, from snowy planets, to desert planets, to tropical forrest planets, each planet having its own feel with different geographical landscapes.

I love the new characters. And I am sure if we had two more Andromeda games, and also DLC for them, the characters would have been even more fleshed out and they would have a better chance at character development. And of course, not all characters are equally interesting. But that is true for the original trilogy as well. Jacob, for example, wasn't the most interesting character. I like Jaal and the fact that we get introduced to a new Mass Effect alien race, the Angara. I also love Vetra and Drack. Peebee is fun. I loved the banter between Kallo and Gill. Kallo was a good choice for a pilot, I'm glad they didn't try to make Joker 2.

Exploration is a big theme in Andromeda. And I did like exploring the planets with the Nomad. I'm a completionist and I did all the missions I found and I went to all map objectives. It took me around 100 hours to finish the game. The vaults are a big part of the game as well, but to be honest they aren't that interesting. I mean you go there, you kill remnants, you activate a console, then you run. You ocasionally find some hidden loot containers, but nothing too exciting.

Most missions were interesting. The main ones and the companion loyalty ones were great. But the "scan the bodies of 10 dead colonists but we are not going to give you any map markers" were **** Those are the only missions I didn't finish. But I guess it's to be expected. I think all games have "filler" missions like these.

Now I want to talk about the main story and the villains. The villain is unfortunately not very interesting. He's your typical "evil bad guy wants to take over the galaxy". But the overarching story is interesting, especially at the end where you learn that the Remnants and the vaults were created by a very advanced mysterious alien race, the Jardaan. And they also engineered and created an entire alien species, the Angara! And the Scourge phenomenon was a weapon used against these mysterious advanced aliens. This story has a lot of potential.

Damn, I am approaching the 5000 character limit. Anyway, my point is, Andromeda isn't a bad game. it is in fact a surprisingly good game. Give it a chance if you like RPGs.

I know its 2021 and this is a four year old game but Mass Effect Andromeda is an example of a decent game being killed off by gamers/reviewers expecting too much. Instead of reviewing the game for what it is people reviewed the game for what they were expecting it to be. I agree it doesn't hold a candle to the original trilogy but that doesn't mean its a bad game. Companies like EAI know its 2021 and this is a four year old game but Mass Effect Andromeda is an example of a decent game being killed off by gamers/reviewers expecting too much. Instead of reviewing the game for what it is people reviewed the game for what they were expecting it to be. I agree it doesn't hold a candle to the original trilogy but that doesn't mean its a bad game. Companies like EA don't care about fan bases they care about their bottom line. So when a game launches and people start writing negative reviews about things like facial expressions and "ME2 was so much better" "The characters aren't as pretty" etc. EA only notices the negative reviews. If people actually reviewed the game with an open mind instead of comparing it to the trilogy or focusing on trivial things like facial expressions (later patched) we would have seen more effort put into this game. Bioware is known for their DLC. Looking back at ME2 and ME3 the DLC for that game was great. Perhaps if EA didn't toss the game away within weeks of the launch due to people whining over stupid things we would have actually seen some DLC added to this game instead of just some overpriced cosmetic crap for Multiplayer. Thankfully there is another Mass Effect game in the works and EA didn't just dump Bioware like they are accustomed to doing and much like Andromeda I will go into it with an open mind and not expect it to be Mass Effect 4. I realize these things can be subjective but just scroll through the negative reviews and see what people complained about.. I'm not exaggerating when I say everyone was concerned about trivial things. Writing negative reviews because all the female characters aren't supermodels or some of the animations are broken etc have consequences not only on the developers but also on the gamer in general. Mass Effect Andromeda is a good game. It could have been great had gamers not immediately dismissed it out of the gate. Expand

I took a risk buying this game given its negative reviews about its bugs. It seems like most of the launch issues with the game have been resolved.

The game itself is quite enjoyable. It feels more like a space version of the Witcher 3 in that quests are unique instead of the generic copy-paste quests of Oblivion / Skyrim. So in other words, it's a more serious version of Borderlands.

The story was still incredibly repetitive and bland compared to the Witcher games, but the FPS gameplay is more enjoyable.

I probably hit a major bug every 10 hours that either crashed my game or required me to get creative with certain quests, so I can see the frustration with them.

Still overall, it's one of the more enjoyable games of its genre.

To preface, I adore the original Mass Effect trilogy. I think they're fantastic and iconic, and I don't believe that Andromeda is a "worthy" sequel to them. However, I love this game for some different reasons than I do its predecessors.

First off, the concept is great. Going to a new galaxy and exploring a single cluster is a great idea for both a standalone game and one that sets up a sequel. Unfortunately, BioWare wanted to make a sequel to this game, and its story takes a hit because of it. We miss out on a lot of answers that were promised by the game, and that sucks. The plot writing isn't fantastic, but I really enjoyed the characters.

Standard BioWare stuff by now - good characters with complex relationships with the main character. I instantly liked all my squadmates, especially Vetra, Drack, and Jaal. I always found Liam's voice acting a bit distracting, but ended up liking him too. The movie night mission was adorable, and it only solidified my love for these characters. The Tempest feels more alive than the Normandy ever did. Characters walking around, talking to each other all the time, all within a smaller area. It just feels good.

I like Ryder. You can see in my screenshots for my modified character, but I found the character creator to be quite good, though not groundbreaking or anything. Her voice, general character, and writing were all to my liking, and upon going back to the original trilogy I think I actually prefer Ryder over Shepard. She's just more... reserved, while Shepard is an omnipresent godlike figure with unending charisma and badassery. I love all that, but Ryder just feels more human, and I like that.

I think the open world worked for this story. I don't think I would have liked it as much if it was just a linear game, but I owe much of my enjoyment to two factors: land traversal and combat. They're so, so smooth. The new profiling system is fantastic. Switching between different profiles on the fly with access to all abilities is THE direction Mass Effect should take, because if there's one thing most people could agree on with this game it's that the combat is excellent. Jumping, dashing, hovering, shooting - it's all just so fun, and the sound design in combat is better than ever. Every bullet feels like its taking a chunk out of the enemy, y'know? I also MUCH prefer the adaptive cover system in this game. Going back to Mass Effect 3 after this just feels... limited.

And the Nomad is just fun. Zooming around and struggling up mountains never ceased to entertain me, so I never really minded the "empty" open worlds people describe. When Eos finally completely opens up to you... ooh, it made me so giddy. I loved exploring Eos, and the first time I encountered I got so excited.

I'd rate the planets by most enjoyable to me as such:
    1) Eos (setting the scene, it really made an impression on me)
    2) Voeld (the Kett bases were loads of fun)
    3) Kadara (more diversified than the others)
    4) Elaaden (the most empty of the planets, the mysteries don't amount to anything)
    5) Havaarl (linear, has the worst side quests)

There's also a new conversation system, which I like in theory, but in practice it doesn't do much to diversify Ryder's personality or change the outcome of conversations. Paragon/Renegade is inherently replayable, and while I vastly prefer emotional/logical style, it doesn't realistically give you the control it should.

There's also a crafting system, and I hate crafting systems, but I got the hang of this one pretty easily and I even started making some insane weapons that only amplified my already great enjoyment of the action.

After I got all invested in the exploring and the fighting, I stumbled upon Liam's loyalty mission, upon which I was shocked back into reality and went, "Oh yeah! I'm playing a Mass Effect game!" For the next forty minutes I was playing a linear Mass Effect story with tight character writing and dialogue, some genuinely funny lines and clever scenarios. Then it was over, and I was back to the open worlds of Andromeda.

As much fun as I had with this game, Mass Effect is at its best when its telling linear stories with a strong story. This isn't that, but I'll probably still replay it one day.

Oh, and don't get this game for the multiplayer. It is soulless, weirdly designed, and kind of dead on any difficulty other than Gold or Platinum. And that's coming from someone who sunk a good couple hundred hours into Mass Effect 3's MP.

But other than that, I just binged 60+ hours and had a blast. The story missions are a lot of fun.

    I am ready for ME4 :D

Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.
