Yes it has some bugs and yes it is not a perfect game. But it has so much to discover and such a big galaxy to explore. There are a lot of quests and the fight system is a lot of fun. this game does not deserve the bad reviews it got. i had a lot of fun playing this game multiple times and would love to see more of this fascinating galaxy!

Mass Effect: Andromeda offers a fresh take in a universe I've grown to love. While I appreciated the new worlds and challenges, there's a part of me that truly misses the original Mass Effect vibes and, of course, Commander Shepard. Still, BioWare gave us an expansive game worth diving into.

Don't listen to all the haters! This is an epic game with a deep and completely new and authentic story taking place in the Mass Effect universe that'll keep you occupied for weeks (80+ hours total play time).

Good game.. Would love a continuation. Own a couple of versions. Overhyped marketing campaign (like CP 20777) ruined the sales. I hate unfinished stories....

In my opinion, one of the worst things people had with the game is that the Mass Effect concept was no longer new and fresh. I really hope Bioware revisits the Andromeda story, it's a cool concept and being an explorer attempting to build new worlds is refreshing instead of constantly trying to save the galaxy. My oldest son refused to play this game because of the negative reviews and is currently playing his first playthrough and he really likes it. Expand

The story was fantastic, the gameplay was brilliant, and nearly all the characters were really interesting and great. (Liam is inconsistent). Kallo and Lexi had more character and better showings then Joker and Chakwas ever did across three games. And as usual, the Krogan are well done and well written.

it also felt like the Asari bias that I picked up on in the OT wasn't there, which was also great.

The gameplay was of course fantastic and fun, and SAM was a pleasant and entertaining companion with his straight man routine. lol

Overall, this game was fantastically made and should get the credit it deserves. Plus, it was nice to get away from the Reapers in general.

Perhaps the point here is that my first part was Andromeda and therefore such a general attitude to the entire series of the project, but as I did not try, I could not master the 2nd and 3rd parts. Builds and pumping, combat mechanics, interface, graphics, controls and the most disgusting, faces and their animations. God, but all the games from BioMusor in terms of faces have degraded for whole generations, only because of this it is impossible to at least try to go through part of the content of their projects, when you see these lifeless faces during emotional moments that scream in your soul to be killed and buried deeper to the bottom, even Skyrim in this regard looks like the purest emerald against their background, although there are plenty of problems with faces. I also no longer understand the solution to the existence of the project from the 3rd person, when the mechanics, the world around, everything looks like it would be perfect for a first-person view, and not far from the truth, I ran with an amateur mod from the 1st person to the 2nd part and got a new inspiration, in some understanding the attitude to the project has changed dramatically, but the mod does not work for the action and therefore I had to demolish the game, although no, just nerves could not stand seeing these faces and the interface of 2000. As much as I don't like Tali'zora, but even for her sake it's impossible to overcome. I downloaded a pseudo remake of all the parts, which rather looks like an attempt to make BioMusor money on a trilogy of their games, absolutely without investing, yes, they improved the graphics in 1 part, but everything, not gameplay changes, not adding a 1-person view, not changing faces, although no, they changed, for the worse, my God, when they fire those responsible for the development of faces. Of course, I do not claim that Andromeda is godlike, the same ending, boss on the last difficulty, grind, pseudo stories in absolutely all documents about strong and independent women, animation of the ship's flight that cannot be skipped, in general, a feeling of emptiness in the project, the absence of a @ex scene with Vetra, from which there is a desire to break through G... to the management of BioMusor, ahem, yes, there are a lot of problems, but the project as a whole feels like a really new experience, when the characters really express emotions, in the history of which you really delve into, and Mass2, in which Miranda kills a traitor and stands with a flattened stone face, this creature is even impossible to describe, the embryo that they decided to leave alive, if there was a choice, I would get rid of her even in the very initial prologue. But as they say, one "especially gifted" will never understand the herd, and why the herd of 2 parts threw 8.9, and Andromeda 5.0. Expand

First of all, I'd like to say that this is the first Mass Effect game that I've played, so I cannot compare it to the trilogy. I've played around 60 hours and have to say that, despite some minor glitches, the game is really interesting and kept me involved in the story. The graphics are really great, the ending quite good and, overall, it has been a great experience.

And assessing the game as a whole with a fresh look without getting hung up on the some details, then as by me - it's the best of all parts - graphics, history, game-play, immersion in the Sci-Fi world - everything is better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I have replayed Mass Effect: Andromeda while waiting for the Legendary Edition. It's now been fully patched and it is in a much better position than it was at launch. But to be honest, it wasn't as bad at launch as some people would have you believe. At least in my experience, there were some mediocre animations for one NPC and some superficial glitches that didn't impact the flow of the game. Nothing gamebreaking.

The Mass Effect trilogy is one of the best game series ever made. They are also my favorite games. And the fact that it's a trilogy allowed the characters to develop their charactermuch better and to be more fleshed out over the course of the games. The overarching story and the characters are what makes Mass Effect amazing.

So there were high expectations for Mass Effect: Andromeda. And Andromeda is actually a pretty good game. Given the big shoes it had to fill after the original trilogy, and the fact that the studio was inexperienced and this was a very ambitious project, not the mention they were constrained by time, it is a wonder the game is this good.

What I like in Andromeda is the gameplay. It's quick, fluid, responsive and satisfying. However, I do not like the fact that you can only have 3 active abilities at any given time. But I understand they did it because of the profile system. I simply wish I had more abilities so that I can make combos, especially since you cannot manually activate your companions' abilities. This is something I don't like. I assume most players would let the companions automatically use their abilities, but they should have at least given us the option. I also love the jetpack and the jetpack dashes, which gave combat a new dimension. Because of that, the combat felt more intense. You aren't stuck behind cover anymore, you could move around the battlefield more easily.

Also, the Architect fights are epic.

I liked the crafting system, too. I crafted all my armor and weapons, I added mods and augmentations. There is a decent variety of weapons, but I mostly sticked with the Sweeper because of the infinite ammo. It also reminded me of the heat system in Mass Effect 1. And I do prefer the heat system to the clip system. Also, crafted weapons are so much better than the ones you find.

The Nomad drives excellently. You can upgrade its engine, shields and life support system. You have an all-wheel drive to climb hills and a mode where the stability assist is disabled for increased agility. It would be extremely unfair to compare it to the Mako for obvious reasons, but the Nomad simply feels great.

The graphics are beautiful. There is a large variety of planets, from snowy planets, to desert planets, to tropical forrest planets, each planet having its own feel with different geographical landscapes.

I love the new characters. And I am sure if we had two more Andromeda games, and also DLC for them, the characters would have been even more fleshed out and they would have a better chance at character development. And of course, not all characters are equally interesting. But that is true for the original trilogy as well. Jacob, for example, wasn't the most interesting character. I like Jaal and the fact that we get introduced to a new Mass Effect alien race, the Angara. I also love Vetra and Drack. Peebee is fun. I loved the banter between Kallo and Gill. Kallo was a good choice for a pilot, I'm glad they didn't try to make Joker 2.

Exploration is a big theme in Andromeda. And I did like exploring the planets with the Nomad. I'm a completionist and I did all the missions I found and I went to all map objectives. It took me around 100 hours to finish the game. The vaults are a big part of the game as well, but to be honest they aren't that interesting. I mean you go there, you kill remnants, you activate a console, then you run. You ocasionally find some hidden loot containers, but nothing too exciting.

Most missions were interesting. The main ones and the companion loyalty ones were great. But the "scan the bodies of 10 dead colonists but we are not going to give you any map markers" were **** Those are the only missions I didn't finish. But I guess it's to be expected. I think all games have "filler" missions like these.

Now I want to talk about the main story and the villains. The villain is unfortunately not very interesting. He's your typical "evil bad guy wants to take over the galaxy". But the overarching story is interesting, especially at the end where you learn that the Remnants and the vaults were created by a very advanced mysterious alien race, the Jardaan. And they also engineered and created an entire alien species, the Angara! And the Scourge phenomenon was a weapon used against these mysterious advanced aliens. This story has a lot of potential.

Damn, I am approaching the 5000 character limit. Anyway, my point is, Andromeda isn't a bad game. it is in fact a surprisingly good game. Give it a chance if you like RPGs.

I know its 2021 and this is a four year old game but Mass Effect Andromeda is an example of a decent game being killed off by gamers/reviewers expecting too much. Instead of reviewing the game for what it is people reviewed the game for what they were expecting it to be. I agree it doesn't hold a candle to the original trilogy but that doesn't mean its a bad game. Companies like EAI know its 2021 and this is a four year old game but Mass Effect Andromeda is an example of a decent game being killed off by gamers/reviewers expecting too much. Instead of reviewing the game for what it is people reviewed the game for what they were expecting it to be. I agree it doesn't hold a candle to the original trilogy but that doesn't mean its a bad game. Companies like EA don't care about fan bases they care about their bottom line. So when a game launches and people start writing negative reviews about things like facial expressions and "ME2 was so much better" "The characters aren't as pretty" etc. EA only notices the negative reviews. If people actually reviewed the game with an open mind instead of comparing it to the trilogy or focusing on trivial things like facial expressions (later patched) we would have seen more effort put into this game. Bioware is known for their DLC. Looking back at ME2 and ME3 the DLC for that game was great. Perhaps if EA didn't toss the game away within weeks of the launch due to people whining over stupid things we would have actually seen some DLC added to this game instead of just some overpriced cosmetic crap for Multiplayer. Thankfully there is another Mass Effect game in the works and EA didn't just dump Bioware like they are accustomed to doing and much like Andromeda I will go into it with an open mind and not expect it to be Mass Effect 4. I realize these things can be subjective but just scroll through the negative reviews and see what people complained about.. I'm not exaggerating when I say everyone was concerned about trivial things. Writing negative reviews because all the female characters aren't supermodels or some of the animations are broken etc have consequences not only on the developers but also on the gamer in general. Mass Effect Andromeda is a good game. It could have been great had gamers not immediately dismissed it out of the gate. Expand

I took a risk buying this game given its negative reviews about its bugs. It seems like most of the launch issues with the game have been resolved.

The game itself is quite enjoyable. It feels more like a space version of the Witcher 3 in that quests are unique instead of the generic copy-paste quests of Oblivion / Skyrim. So in other words, it's a more serious version of Borderlands.

The story was still incredibly repetitive and bland compared to the Witcher games, but the FPS gameplay is more enjoyable.

I probably hit a major bug every 10 hours that either crashed my game or required me to get creative with certain quests, so I can see the frustration with them.

Still overall, it's one of the more enjoyable games of its genre.

To preface, I adore the original Mass Effect trilogy. I think they're fantastic and iconic, and I don't believe that Andromeda is a "worthy" sequel to them. However, I love this game for some different reasons than I do its predecessors.

First off, the concept is great. Going to a new galaxy and exploring a single cluster is a great idea for both a standalone game and one that sets up a sequel. Unfortunately, BioWare wanted to make a sequel to this game, and its story takes a hit because of it. We miss out on a lot of answers that were promised by the game, and that sucks. The plot writing isn't fantastic, but I really enjoyed the characters.

Standard BioWare stuff by now - good characters with complex relationships with the main character. I instantly liked all my squadmates, especially Vetra, Drack, and Jaal. I always found Liam's voice acting a bit distracting, but ended up liking him too. The movie night mission was adorable, and it only solidified my love for these characters. The Tempest feels more alive than the Normandy ever did. Characters walking around, talking to each other all the time, all within a smaller area. It just feels good.

I like Ryder. You can see in my screenshots for my modified character, but I found the character creator to be quite good, though not groundbreaking or anything. Her voice, general character, and writing were all to my liking, and upon going back to the original trilogy I think I actually prefer Ryder over Shepard. She's just more... reserved, while Shepard is an omnipresent godlike figure with unending charisma and badassery. I love all that, but Ryder just feels more human, and I like that.

I think the open world worked for this story. I don't think I would have liked it as much if it was just a linear game, but I owe much of my enjoyment to two factors: land traversal and combat. They're so, so smooth. The new profiling system is fantastic. Switching between different profiles on the fly with access to all abilities is THE direction Mass Effect should take, because if there's one thing most people could agree on with this game it's that the combat is excellent. Jumping, dashing, hovering, shooting - it's all just so fun, and the sound design in combat is better than ever. Every bullet feels like its taking a chunk out of the enemy, y'know? I also MUCH prefer the adaptive cover system in this game. Going back to Mass Effect 3 after this just feels... limited.

And the Nomad is just fun. Zooming around and struggling up mountains never ceased to entertain me, so I never really minded the "empty" open worlds people describe. When Eos finally completely opens up to you... ooh, it made me so giddy. I loved exploring Eos, and the first time I encountered I got so excited.

I'd rate the planets by most enjoyable to me as such:
    1) Eos (setting the scene, it really made an impression on me)
    2) Voeld (the Kett bases were loads of fun)
    3) Kadara (more diversified than the others)
    4) Elaaden (the most empty of the planets, the mysteries don't amount to anything)
    5) Havaarl (linear, has the worst side quests)

There's also a new conversation system, which I like in theory, but in practice it doesn't do much to diversify Ryder's personality or change the outcome of conversations. Paragon/Renegade is inherently replayable, and while I vastly prefer emotional/logical style, it doesn't realistically give you the control it should.

There's also a crafting system, and I hate crafting systems, but I got the hang of this one pretty easily and I even started making some insane weapons that only amplified my already great enjoyment of the action.

After I got all invested in the exploring and the fighting, I stumbled upon Liam's loyalty mission, upon which I was shocked back into reality and went, "Oh yeah! I'm playing a Mass Effect game!" For the next forty minutes I was playing a linear Mass Effect story with tight character writing and dialogue, some genuinely funny lines and clever scenarios. Then it was over, and I was back to the open worlds of Andromeda.

As much fun as I had with this game, Mass Effect is at its best when its telling linear stories with a strong story. This isn't that, but I'll probably still replay it one day.

Oh, and don't get this game for the multiplayer. It is soulless, weirdly designed, and kind of dead on any difficulty other than Gold or Platinum. And that's coming from someone who sunk a good couple hundred hours into Mass Effect 3's MP.

But other than that, I just binged 60+ hours and had a blast. The story missions are a lot of fun.

As flawed as it is I'd still give it an 8/10. But I wouldn't recommend playing it without two dozen mods. With mods I'd give it a 9/10. Doesn't seem like a big difference in numbers, but the experience is very different.

Looks good, FPS are pretty high (80-144). The movement boosts are nice.

Menu/UI system is awful. It's made all the more confusing by the fact that you cannot change weapons, mods, and consumables except at specific locations, which is ridiculous. You're essentially given a "look no touch" menu.

You have to stop the game, and do a web search for "how do I equip a weapon", "how do I equip a mod". Just ridiculous.

They put up messages on your screen that disappear before you get to read them.

Scanning planets in the ME series has always been pretty bad, but having to look up a tutorial on how to even do it in this version is ridiculous. There are a lot of things like that which are poorly described/indicated/demonstrated, including the mining.

The handheld scanner is unpleasant to use due to the intensity/severe lighting change.

There are so many things that seem really unpolished. One such thing largely ruins what could be very rewarding close range combat - you can't do melee attacks unless you have a weapon unholstered. The problem with that is the game is not designed for you to normally have a weapon out, because doing so drastically decreases your view/FOV. It makes melee fighting very clunky and uncomfortable.

I see people saying the combat is the best thing about this game, but the FOV issues degrade it so much. Maybe they were able to use the FOV-fix mod.

It's just such a shame when what could be really great games, which obviously had lots of effort put into them, are ruined by relatively small things like this.

The weapon/armor/gear crafting and upgrading is too extensive, complicated, and sucks up way too much time. You can actually just ignore it, but that's not obvious till later in the game.

Your AI repeats the same sentences over and over, and it gets extremely aggravating to the point where I had to play with no sound.

You need dozens of mods to be able to enjoy this game without frustration, but at the end of 2020 it seems that the mod tool hasn't been working for years.

After I completed the whole campaign I hopped into a multiplayer game and it seems to be co-op vs AI. I was seriously underpowered so it wasn't even worth playing. So I went to play the MP tutorial mission instead and still I was super underpowered for what they throw at you. It seems designed for pay to win. They want you to pay to level your character and buy gear. That was pretty lame, so I left.

Multiplayer doesn't let you assign powers to keys/binds like the singleplayer does. So you'd have to change your binds instead.

The good example of why you can't rush game developers. MEA was murdered alive by people who wanted a copy of trylogy, not new game with new protagonist - bugs and problems with animation were a good excuses. The game has AMAZING humor and climate, fighthing and jumping is really fun and I love every character.

This game is essentially what i imagine the devs envisioned when they set out to make Mass Effect 1. Now with the technology to fully realise their vision, they more or less achieved it and succeeded in properly realising the ambitious things Mass Effect 1 could only attempt on a very basic scale and in some cases could only dream of doing.

I got around 100 hours out of this game, seeing perhaps 95 percent of its content, and i have to say, i thoroughly enjoyed the game where i expected not to. The awful word of mouth that followed this games release had lowered my expectations a great deal, but i was pleasantly surprised when i landed on the first planet and realised just how cool the game really is.

Graphically the game is gorgeous, combat is fantastic (i HIGHLY recommend playing on the hardest difficulty for the best challenge and experience) music is brilliant, map design is fantastic also.

The game still has its faults, mostly being the story telling and some cringey dialogue. Also some of that awkward facial animation remains, but you'd have to be an extremely shallow person with unreasonably high expectations to let that ruin a game completely for you. It should be more about game play with this game, and with the game play, it truly excels.

I wont try to tell you the game is perfect because it isn't. But i will come here to try to give what i think is a more fair assessment in contrast to the overwhelming negativity i see here in the user reviews.

If you are a fan of SCI FI, Mass Effect, exploration, fun combat, just play the game for yourself and see if you agree with the abundance of 0/10 reviews here. Because i really dont.

Great graphics though not as much soul as the previous series. Just playing the intro of the original Mass effect tells you every thing that this game is missing. Though so much better then general opinion. I have 150 hours in the game and counting. I just wish they would have structured, improved the pace and the story better. Then did away with the annoying grind.

There are still bugs, and the animation is far worse than old chapters in Mass Effect saga, but it really is solid game, story-wise, gameplay-wise, and with really pretty graphics. But I don't regret playing and finishing the game at all, that was a grand adventure with, suprisingly, the most satysfying ending from all other Mass Effects. After finishing I felt that the story really is complete, and the future games would be a welcome suprise more than a necessity. But, big minus is that I had to install a mod created by players to fix some of the issues with the game, including quests not showing up. It really is sad that this game could be the next great Mass Effect, but was so damaged at the beginning, that it's really difficult to appreciate it now. Because there is a gigantic potential, that can be felt throuought the game, and it really is very fun. Expand

Mass Effect Andromeda is a game that receives a lot of flack from players and critics alike. Many people say the game is buggy, or it doesn't look good, or the animations are weird. I, however, did not listen to critics and went into the game with an open mind.

Let's start off with the facial animations. Are they wonky? Yes. Do they break the gaming experience? Most of the time, no.

The main character where they get in the way is Addison on the Nexus, but that's the bad egg of the bunch. The vast majority of the facial expressions are expressive, depending on the species, it's a fantastic use of animations.

Game play: The most fluid in the series. No more clunk, no more funk. The game play allows multiple ways to play, and feels light and aggressive. It's rich(er) crafting system allows the player to create weaponry from various different arsenals. The game play, leveling, purchasing, choices, and crafting cause Mass Effect Andromeda to be the most RPG game of the series, beating the original.

Story: The story is a fantastic fresh idea of facing off against a new alien race. Are there flaws? Obviously. I've nitpicked several minor details but overall it's a great story-line.

Atmosphere: Absolutely beautiful. Every planet has its own unique set of wildlife, challenges, and atmospheres. Many people either quit out on the weak starting planet, or the overdrawn ice planet, which is a fair point, those planets do drag on... While in my personal opinion, Havarl, the best planet, doesn't get enough screen time. Either way, the game, especially after lighting patches, has beautiful planets and rich atmospheres.

The game had many issues when it released, but I believe this was EA to blame for rushing the release. Despite the flaws, Bioware did their best to fix the issues, beautify the faces, intensify the lighting, increase carry weight, and improve strike force features within the game.

Overall, this game is a mid-high 8 and marks itself as my favorite in the series so far. The game gets too much hate, and I definitely do recommend playing it.

It took a lot of fire for a number of different reasons including the lack of facial expressions, however, I find most of the stories compelling, the characters feel real with quirks and they just seemed to come alive. But other than that I really enjoyed the game (finished it 3 times on PC and 3 times on PS4). And to be honest, tell me one single RPG game that gives you this feeling of space travel. I mean you can park the ship in a nebula, near a black hole, in an asteroid field or in orbit around a planet nad just look outside and see it in all its beauty.
And also name me a single scifi RPG that has been released since Andromeda. Only two come to my mind, Technomancer and Elex. And while both are excellent games (yes, I played both), none of them is about a space travel.

Also, the graphics and face animations, after the patches, were okay for me. Sometimes I really liked the ruins and other buildings and environments they created - although there was a bit too much repetition, such as in the enemies.

My main disappointment was how they made NO DLC's for the game. And they really really DID need to have made at least one DLC to resolve a certain aspect of the plot that I won't give away (spoiler) - but people who played the game will know what I mean.

It's as if Bioware said "Oh geezz - a lot of people don't like the game., so to heck with them and let's just abandon the game and #$#!!! doing any DLC!".

This is not a way to treat your loyal customers Bioware! Also, and this is coming from someone who is pretty open-minded - they really need to tone down that SJW stuff which is just pissing people off. Just my two cents :) !

Metro Exodus and Andromeda both have a short main story, Exodus is way shorter. Exodus main story is a mexican soap opera, by comparison Andromeda story arc is amazing, deep and intricated. Andromeda is a great game, with a great main story, with enough content, not unsual having 20+ tasksquests open at the same time, that got bad reviews by 5 year olds repeating what other 5 years old said in hope someone think they are game experts.

Firstly, I wanted to give this game more of a 7.5, but I didn't want it to fall into the yellow and decided on an 8 instead.

Secondly, BioWare, if you're reading this, I hope that you consider releasing some sort of anything for Andromeda at some point, or a new game connected to it.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a great game. It's got flaws, no doubt. It could really do well with even just one piece of DLC (for reasons I won't spoil). And I'm saying this as someone who started playing Mass Effect way back when Mass Effect 1 was the only ME game we had to play. I'm saying this as someone who has been through the original trilogy over and over, ad infinitum. I'm saying this as someone who has totally recognized that BioWare has always had funky animations in every single game they've released since ME1 and Dragon Age.

When I came into Andromeda, the animations were really the last thing I even focused on or concentrated on. They were there, I could see them, but never at any point did it ever seem so drastic that it warranted an internet mob. I truly believe the aforementioned mob was less inspired by BioWare animations and more about the fact that there were LGBTQ+ themes in this game. That there was more than one trans person in this game. That even Asari can be heard speaking about gender and how they present themselves, and these are themes strewn all over the game (themes that make sense, especially in a future where humanity has overcome most of their prejudices against other human beings). I really feel this is the biggest reason that (we'll just call them 'a certain crowd') a certain crowd latched onto ME:A as a point of major grievance. Because it finally deviated from the kind of cowardly ways of the original trilogy where, for example, Mass Effect 2 you had what I would consider a cyberpunk/space masterpiece ... except it was extremely straight and a huge deviation from romantic themes we had only just had in the first iteration of the game (although Tali should not have even remotely stayed straight, just something I wanted to throw out there).

All that aside, all my personal speculation about why this game got bombed by mobs of people, I can finally actually talk about the game.

ME:A starts out with a real hard scifi kind of feel to it. A little different than the trilogy, but the Mass Effect feeling is there, and there's also a new feeling about it. You're thrust 600 years into the future and immediately, everything's going wrong. But then you get a ship, and it is an amazing ship. It's not the Normandy, but it's just as nice and shiny as Shepard's. It took me a while to get used to Ryder, but going back in for a replay, I find myself walking around the ship, just the ship and it makes me feel like this universe really deserves to continue, that it deserves to be here. It's a feeling I can barely describe, but it's a feeling that I don't ever really get outside of the Mass Effect series.

It almost feels like I'm back home, despite my feelings about not being able to be Shepard ever again (or at least for now).

But then you go out and you explore and while the worlds I think are quite a bit bigger than they need to be, I think molding the ME universe into a massive expanse is the right direction for the game. Because unless BioWare turns this franchise into an MMO and gives us some kind of infinitely persistent world, I have nowhere else to go to soak up this much Mass Effect, and Andromeda has a lot of Mass Effect to drink in.

I also come to ME for the romance though, and if someone's telling you they don't, there's a 50/50 chance they're lying to you. Full-stop. The entire Mass Effect trilogy was an on-going romance between my Shepard and Liara, and I expected nothing less from Andromeda. So of course, I met Peebee, or space girlfriend number two. In regards to romance, BioWare really went all out in Andromeda. I think (not entirely sure because I have a bad memory for specifics) every single person on your ship is romancable, and not only that, but there are even romance-inclined NPCs on the Nexus. So there's a ton of romance to be had in this iteration.

The combat in ME:A is the best its ever been in the entire series, and the addition of profiles and jump boosts just makes it even cooler. On top of that, two years later, I'm still playing its multiplayer companion, and so are a ton of other people.

This is already really long, but I recommend ME:A if you haven't played it. My only gripe is that the Asari could use more unique faces and it desperately needs BioWare to return with some DLC. That's it. Those are the only real issues here. Take a look at the critic scores versus the review bombing that happened on the user score side and you'll quickly realize that there's an ulterior motive behind the red.

Mass Effect andromeda’s only major flaw was that it was written with an expectation that a sequel was guaranteed.

The gameplay was smoother than ever.

The story was setting up for something amazing. And the characters personal growth was so varied (not everyone was growing into a better soldier they each had a unique story). It was exciting to see where everyone went.

(Bugisoft, Bugthesda, etc)

To start, there is the story. Right form the getgo, there is an atmosphere of positivity and possibility, that stems from pioneering. By moving away from the reaper storyline, we also move away from a constant sense of impending doom. I think that suits the games theme of exploration very well. I am a big fan of the ME trillogy, but having Shepard do relatively unimportant assignments, while there were vastly more urgent matters to attend to, allways kind of bugged me. This time around, the story takes a more subtle and relaxed course, allowing you to immerse into the smaller story arcs as well.

The voice-acting of the female Ryder (I haven't played the male yet) is realy convincing and immersive. Often she would have subtle and surprising responses that help to create the sense that this is someone with a personality and emotional depth.
You can choose the type of response, divided in a number of possibilities, like emotional, professional, casual or logical etc. helping you to be the Ryder you can get behind.
Sure, the facial animation is not up to todays standards, but the the graphical quality make up for that, and it rarely bothers me, if at all.

The other characters on the team don't seem to be popular among a lot of reviewers, but I think they are convincing. I guess it's the same for real people, it's down to personal tastes.

The new galaxy is a big place with a lot of room to gather materials, build settlements, meet new people etc. What bothered me a bit is that this is a whole other galaxy, yet everything looks en acts very familiar. The other species are all too humanlike, who also use very recognisable technoligy. Too me it feels a but unlikely, but like in ME 1 to 3, I can look past that.

As many others have said: the combat is great! The lessons from the trillogy have clearly been learned. To add to that, you now have a jetpack mechanic, that allows you to jump higher and make horizontal leaps. The combat now takes place in three dimensions and the environment matches that. I was pleasantly surprised when I jumped onto a building to escape from a large creature, only to find that it jumped right after me, forcing me to stay mobile. Combat has become even more dynamic and is a realy big plus. As a bonus, there is also a six wheeled rover to help you across the large maps. And this time arouind, they've gotten it right.

My advice: Definately worth a try for sci-fi and ME fans, but don't expect ME 1 to 3. It's a different game in it's own right. Have fun!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. PREFACE: Playtime - 115 hrs - %100 completion of the game
I played this game after all of its many release issues were resolved at V1.10.

    Story 8/10:
Having played all of the previous Mass Effect games, and thoroughly enjoying all of them (again I played them all after their patches were applied so I had less of an issue with the ending of ME3 than most), I had had some significant expectations for this ostensibly new entry. Up until now, Mass Effect has been known to have an amazing and exceptionally well-built universe and set of characters and relationships. Andromeda carries on this tradition with a strong lead protagonist in the shape of Ryder and the journey you experience from her perspective. The basic summary of the story is that you are part of a Milky-Way comprised coalition of species who have travelled across the void of dark space to the separate galaxy of Andromeda, in search of a new home and new discoveries (with other motivations for the journey that are revealed later in the game).

You share the loss of Ryder's father, the shock at your apparently comatose brother and several other major revelations that impact her view of how and why she is on this mission at all. Beyond the personal story of Ryder, you encounter a range of allies and compatriots who team up with to on your quest to save the Milky Way mission and to provide assistance to the apparently native species of Andromeda called the Angarans battle against what appears to be an interloping force called the Kett. This is all with the background setting of an imposing and likely galactic wide “infection” that has been dubbed the scourge - an electromagnetic disturbance that has channeled it's way throughout the region of space you inhabit for the duration of the game (dubbed the “Helius” cluster - a section of the larger Andromeda Galaxy).

All of these elements play well together in the way that you are never feeling like you are on a linear pathway, but rather exposing and exploring a new frontier of events and characters. The relationships you build help to foster a significant amount of emotionality to the core narrative arc and gives a greater sense of buy-in to the major plot points and story moments in the main quest-line. The narrative itself does rely on several well-worn tropes, and typical hero's journey components, but done so in a way that feels novel and relevant for the context, for the most part. Your companions are also highly likeable and there is only one that I felt was significantly poorly realised in their dialogue and actions (Liam), but otherwise, the full crew you have is well fleshed out.

    Gameplay 8/10:
The gameplay is a massive change from the previous ME games, which I think is for the better. There Is more freedom of movement in the battle-space, and more options for cover (which feels fluid and natural) and for attack/defensive actions (the full array of powers you can learn and deploy is huge, and gives a good variance to play-style).

I found myself taking a largely typical “Infiltrator” style build for the most part (sniper, with stealth support), but found that the systems gave me a great amount of flexibility to bend the typical ME rules and limits of this style and mix it up with tech powers and biotics that only made the gameplay more dynamic and interesting (instead of stopping me from exploring various elements of action/gunplay/power deployment etc until the next playthrough).

When not in combat the interaction you have in the world is simple but effective for the main narrative purposes you are presented with. It, at first, does feel a little jarring going from absolute freedom of the battlespace (with rocket-powered jumping and hovering) to a very restricted movement area and interaction “hot-zones” but this division feels well balanced as you get used to it.

    A/V 9/10:
By far the most impressive aspect of the game. The quality of the character models, textures, lighting and detail of the environments and space scenes was really inspiring to see. There was a lot of care and time placed into the creation of this world and the inhabitants within, and it feels very satisfying to explore it all and soak up the visuals.

The audio is just as well crafted with appropriate, and unique feeling space atmospheric, soundtracks and sound effects to bring the whole world together to feel rich and lived in. This goes especially for the sound effects of the weapons, which consistently feel appropriate and give a sense of power and weight to each weapon/power.

    Overall 8.5/10:
I feel that this is a great continuation of the Mass Effect series and I really do hope that EA/BioWare take up and continue the story of Ryder and of the Andromeda Initiative again, despite all of the negative reactions from some fans on release. I applaud the developers for taking on some new ideas and bringing a freshness to this already very well established universe and game series!

The game is definitely buggy but not worth a 0/10 with any perspective.
The game's main story is fine-ish, it isn't great; but the game shines in player stories, ryder is but a vessel for the player to express themselves and mold the world accordingly. Each friend mission and heleus assignment is a literal ride for players to actually role-play as a pathfinder; does the player keep on focusing on just his vengeance against the archon or does he help the angara, etc.
The world is brimming with potential; Though sadly we won't be seeing our decisions take fruition in the next part(i really do hope EA reconsider it)
The gameplay is simply put fun. On hard it is challenging enough to be fun without being pathetically imbalanced against the player; if i died i felt like it was my f*** up rather than cheap damage from enemies. The enhanced mobility in combat adds more than just speed to the combat but verticality also. The weapons are satisfying to use, the exploration is fun as well though platforming feels like a missed opportunity here. The AI though leaves a bit to be desired as sometimes they are smart to flank you and even flush you out of cover using grenades etc. forcing you to use the mobility that you have but sometimes they get stuck in between deciding whom to target(happened to me in 10% encounters across the 50 hour playthrough). The new dynamic profile system is fun to tinker with as well
The graphics are a mixed bag; facial animations suck to be put bluntly(Except for those few scenes which seem animated differently). The environment on the other hand though ranges from breath-takingly gorgeous or just meh(still miles ahead of stuff like no man's sky or the planet explored in previous mass effects). The moment when your ship docks in and you view the planet on foot is always makes you feel enticed to explore it.
The music is good, not too bad not too great but it does fit in well with whatever happens on screen(At least on my playthrough)
The menus are good and easy to navigate but they are overly done, to the point of being irritating. Even after the skip patch the planet zoom in to zoom out remains which loses novelty after first 3 times and then becomes irritating.
Overall, even after the patches the game remains buggy but never enough to outshine its strengths. The game is easily a 7.5/10(have to give 8 as metacritc doesn't have decimal ratings). Fun to play and a great sandbox to roleplay your character in; if you can bear through the irritating menus and occasional glitching

Bastante agradable jugar MEA

Mass Effect andromeda fully patched is a good game. Its not the work of art that the triology was, especially ME2, but its a good game in its own right. It has beautifull plannets, very good combat mechanics, cool exploration, but has characters less interesting and some missions are just plain boring. I guess the major loss on the bioware team wasn't on the animators, it was on the writing team. Expand

Zugfreifen!! Expand

At the beginning, i mean at the release i had too big expectations in that Mass Effect Part.
I thought this will be the best Mass Effect ever ...
Propably because Bioware has promised big stuff to us. For me (Now / 1 Year later) i think its a good mass effect but not the best one. I really loved the graphics but not the head designs / animations. [10/10] The Story was fine, for me

The Story was fine, for me [8/10] It left some little questions open.
Fighting system: Best of all ME's. The Abilitys are great, especially for biotics. [10/10]
Dialogues: Very detailed and much fun. [Good language/Translation etc.]
Quests: Addional quests are also "good" not perfekt but good. [7/10]
Romances: You can go with nearly everyone you want, but its part has "romance scenes" with
    more "skin".

In total its a very nice game for me, i invested around 40h into this game and i dont regreat it.
Its a cool experience and even has a little "teaser" at the ending for ME:A2
I hope a new part comes out soon.

    (Sorry for my bad english)
    With kind regards
    NeeD :)

I purchased the game on sale back in Jan 2018 and I am pleased I did.

I had fun with the first 3 instalment of Mass Effect and in truth, can't remember which one I preferred and why but in my opinion, it's still as much fun today with mass effect Andromeda. I have sunk tons of hours and now level 46 and soon ready to complete the latest main mission. I'll complete the game for sure

I have sunk tons of hours and now level 46 and soon ready to complete the latest main mission. I'll complete the game for sure but thought I had enough to write a review and believe it deserves it.

    What I liked is that:
    - it's big and somehow the main story, side missions and fighting keeps me interested all along
    - love the jetpack & various options to dispatch of the enemies, for me it does not get repetitive.
    - lots of choices at various mission with outcome you care and still enjoying the romance options
    - lots ( one could say almost too much ) dialogue & voice over ( though I should mention I went for the French version as I am bilingual) -> I don't listen to it all but I still enjoyed
    - graphic & science fiction setting are as good as ever.

I decided to purchase it on the PS4 as I was afraid my computer would not run it well and I had to adjust the TV resolution to 720dp and enable the zoom to make it comfortable to read and it's too bad they did not release a patch to allow to increase the font size but after a while I got used to it and it did not bother me as much. ( just zoomed in on occasion)

You could obviously expect more polish but considering the negative reviews, I was expecting a lot worse and was surprised to have so much fun. The glitch and weird animation that pops up just made me smile instead of Grinch -> no game breaking bug so far.

All in all, I say give it a chance on sale if you enjoyed the genre or previous mass effect games.

Hmm, i avoided this game longer time, because of negative critics and bad talks. Recently i played through it all. And i am glad i did. Its not best rpg, but its nowhere near anything bad, at all.
I played and loved ME1 and ME2, and all critics should be towards ME3, where whole ME saga went to crap, except pretty good characters, rest was **** game, crappy combat, story plot so dumb. ME3

Theres just one thing, suck ass characters are so omg, especially Peebe nightmare worst character i seen in games in long long time. There bioware totally screwed up. If unpatched game from start was way worse even with Ryder and others, it mustve been real hell, there i see source of bad critics.
All patched now, i quite enjoyed it. Story not stellar, but whatever. Combat is perfect, gears etc too, lot of exploring. Few annoying glitches, nothing serious. Except really really bad characters, bad written, and some SUPER bad looking. Looks count, ALOT, remember that, bioware.
I would give 8/10, had quite fun, but seeing those 0/10 crybabies, i am giving 10 to even it up a bit.

ME:A is a great addition to the ME series. It had the right amount of changes and they were done well. I've been looking forward to an open world ME game since ME1. It had the right amount of changes and they were done well. I've been looking forward to an open world ME game since ME1. Don't get me wrong, the ME series will go down in history as one of my favorite series. ME:A is probably on the bottom of the list as far as ME games go but that doesn't mean it's not a bad game in the slightest. It has a very interesting story line, amazing combat, a decent if not steep learning curve, and your character is customizable to the littlest detail.

I have had discussions about ME:A with many people who have given it a bad score a lot of people give me the same reason; Bio got rid of everything about the old ME games. That is a problem... if you EXPECT this game to be anything like the old ones. I came into this game expecting something different. A different style, a different story, a different everything. The only thing tying the old ME games with ME:A is the fact that they are in the same universe. This is key. People come into ME:A expecting something like the old ME games and you cannot. This is it's own entity in its own right and if you go into it expecting the old ME experience, of course you're going to be disappointed. If you view the game as it's own entity with the only connection to the old games is the name, then you go into it with the proper amount of expectation.

Taking that into consideration, there were a few quests that were very boring and could be taken out and they could have put a lot more effort into crew quests and nexus quests. I feel if they make an addition to ME:A and they fix some of these minor issues with game play then they will have another title that I will put on the shelves with ME1,2, and 3.

Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.

Enough of the classic Mass Effect, with enough new mechanics to keep the game fresh. [Hollingworth; Issue#261, p.55]

An earnest attempt has been made to create a new identity for a series here, but the question of how to best frame Mass Effect's narrative strengths is, once again, left open. [June 2017, p.90]
