    Don't even bother buying it. The game takes many hours of your life to finish it, while the plot could be few hours long, but the repeatable gameplay makes it last much longer. If this wasn't enough, this game has a ton of technical issues and has cut out the best mechanics of it's predecessors.

    Being a Mafia-series speedrunner, expectations about Mafia 3 were really high. Both M1 and M2 were milestones and great games, for the time they were released.
    The game seems like lacking dedication. Graphics are good, but could have been better, Gameplay is good, but could ... you got the point, same for the Story.

    Although this game sets in an open-world, I feel like the devs had not fully utilize it. There aren't many things to do in New Bordeaux. Gameplay gets old very very quickly, and the missions are very repetitive. Story wise, it was meh. Maybe it is the lack of content, the game forces you to play those what are supposed to be boring repetitive side missions to progress further into the mainAlthough this game sets in an open-world, I feel like the devs had not fully utilize it.     Mafia 3 is sort of a sequel to mafia 2 in that its main character Vito makes a return, but sadly only as a throwaway... the star this time is a half black Vietnam veteran named Lincoln clay, his race is important to mention due to the fact the game takes place in the mid to late 1960s, and in the south at that in a fictional new Orleans.. so    Mafia 3

    The first few hours of this game does a great job of bringing the era and time period to life just as greatly as mafia 2 did…
    The world felt alive, hearing npcs on the sidewalks talk about martin Luther king jr, James earl ray, john F Kennedy… and the soundtrack in this game is just as perfect as mafia 2s soundtrack was…
    And there are a few nice touches to the game like the radio getting staticy when you drive through tunnels…
    And then the game cracks and becomes what it’s not and was never intended to be… A generic open world liberation game…
    Mafia 3 feels like an Assassins Creed game and ironically suffers from the same thing recent ac games have suffered from…
    Mafia has never been about its open world… It’s been about being a time machine... it’s why I loved mafia 2 and it’s why I loved most of the assassin’s creed games… Mafia 2 brought you back in time to live in a world that felt foreign… it made me feel nostalgic for a time period I didn’t even get to live through... it had me listening to music from the 40s and 50s in my everyday life and it immersed me into an epic experience because there was so much love, care, and detail inside of every main mission and the world around you… It all felt hand crafted…
    Mafia 3 shifted its focus from being an experience to being a video game the moment it opens up…
    And this is where its cracks start to show
    The game structure is the same throughout… You’re tasked with doing monetary damage to a quote unquote business… each business is different but despite this you do same thing over and over and over for 20 hours… interrogate a target.. They tell you where the product is... you destroy the product, kill some targets, and get an underboss to come out from hiding...kill him… rinse and repeat...
    Once an underboss is killed you can give that section of the city to one of your underbosses for an added perk, careful to keep all 3 happy so they don’t turn on you…
    You have to do this Twice to get the main boss to come out… and this mission to kill the top boss in each city’s section are the greatest moments in the entire game.. so many epic and memorable levels to experience here… and the fact that they make up less than half of the game is completely unacceptable…
    This doing damage to bring out the underbosses and killing them to bring out the boss is a great idea
    I have no issue with this formula being used from start to finish.. what I do take issue is the fact that the structure of these missions dont change…
    Every last mission should be as fleshed out as the kill whoever missions… which again are great points in the game…
    But especially after experiencing witcher 3.. there’s no excuse for your main missions in an open world to not even have half the heart witchers side mission do let alone its campaign missions…
    Sure make me do damage to bring them out, but make each mini boss its own hand crafted experience and story like the main bosses are.. Especially considering they’re required for story progression…
    They feel like rinse and repeat liberation points throughout...
    If that means the story goes from 20 hours to 12, I’m happy...
    a 12 hour masterpiece is worth more to me than 20 hours of the same thing beat by beat…
    The actual gameplay itself I felt is a bit unbalanced and inconsistent…
    The guns in this game took far too long to reload for the amount of enemies you had to deal with.. sure you can call in for help during missions, but it hardly ever mattered…
    You’d constantly get surrounded so cover didn’t matter, even if it did the cover system was super awkward leading you to pop right up trying to switch from cover to cover….enemies felt like bullet sponges, so you’d run out of a clip while dealing with 3 or 4 at a time and while you reloaded it would be over for you…
    Even on the games easiest difficulty I felt it was too easy to die considering the circumstances..
    And for some reason the main target in these missions takes damage like a tank…throwing the feel of the entire game away every time you encounter one…
    You could also stealth around and take out enemies ninja style if you’d like…
    Since you do have a voodoo doll to distract enemies and you can whistle to bring them towards you 1 at a time…
    The outside world is a bit of a letdown too, as cops hardly feel like a threat at all.. More like ornaments…
    And you have to constantly deal with citizens running to call the copy every time you hop in a car like watch dogs but worse...
    And they call them unrealistically fast as do the goons calling for back up….
    An extreme annoyance that I can kill someone before they say a word and it’s too late.. Reinforcements are here or cops are on their way…
    And honestly other than cut scenes or the occasional gunman dropping the n word... I felt like just another white protagonist as no one on the street treated me any different... which was odd considering you do deal with the city’s presence of racism later on in the game…
    But the racism seems to only be reserved for missions, failing to ultimately bring the world to life..
    I feel like those few missions would have been more impactful if I actually got to feel what it was like to be in the shoes of an African American during the mid-60s.. As I’m sure it was far more and far worse than just being called the n word every now and then and only if you were a mobster destroying drugs and shooting places up……
    That being said... mafia 3 still has its moments of greatness…
    The cut scenes, the characters, the sound tract… and the missions the developers actually tried at, all ultimately make this game worth plaything through…

    Game Design
    This game has a huge, gigantic, enormous problem with the design of the HUD. I mean critical and it gets to the point when you question if they are insulting your intelligence with text in the screen, unnecessary indicator signs (you have a GPU thing in the map why you would put pop up signs in the actual city) the mission objectives are all over the place; it really ruins the immersion that was built with the city. This is basic and mistakes like this shouldn’t happen in a triple A studios. There are no save files so you can play missions that you like (not that there are many enjoyable missions) and if you want to make different choices you must start from scratch.
    Videogames 101
    Although there are many technical and gameplay design issues I feel that it has already been said in numerous reviews both from users and specialized sites and are explained with great detail. Instead would like to confront a very serious problem that mafia III has and many heavy narrative driven games have: you are making a game and before start thinking in how you’re going to deliver this awesome story you must realize that the player will spend double of the time playing than watching a cinematic. The most beautiful narratives in this medium are created with the player. What a game designer must do to generate this is simple: guide, linearity, scripted events can’t be seen as a bad thing even if you pretend to create this free roaming city.
    What does a Mafia story mean?
    Long story short: means painful slow downward spiral where the price is not worth the sacrifice, where the stakes are always at its highest. Mafia III set this perfectly, the elements where there, even the hints of the non-linear structure story teased a great finale. Instead, every opportunity they had to give us a surprise was wasted. Lincoln never faced a challenge, I never felt was something at risk (not in the gameplay not in the story) Hangar13 portray an un-clever, boring and non-threating criminal world that is waiting to be dismantled (the retaliation thing was a good idea with a bad execution). There’s not even a struggle when you’re assigning districts and conflicts can be easily avoided. Betrayal, corruption, crisis, collateral damage where only mentioned but rarely affected the player. Cops where supposed to be a pain in the ass because of the period, and because they are in Marcano’s pocket, you could easily create and element of “resistance to expansion” where the cops could have been in charge of closing business and fighting associate warehouses. I’ve never seen such potential wasted so easily. That’s why I felt cinematics felt so out of phase.
    Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven
    What made Mafia became a potential franchise? Well practically all the things they erased in mafia III, some may say the story driven immersive cinematic, I would say many games before Mafia I had this signature (MGS, hitman, Final Fantasy) so no, it’s not the resemblance to a Hollywood movie but the details. Some may say useless I may say the soul of a good strong narrative IN GAME. Gun shells bouncing while you’re fighting an ambush, cursing in your seat because you are out of gas in the middle of the street while you need to go to a doctor, running a red light and stop the car cause the persecution is not worth the risk, pick locking a car and wait for the door to open, realizing that the face of the protagonist has a different mood in every mission, shooting a car in the gas tank knowing that it may not explode at all. That is a mafia game and I’m very sad that the franchise has come to this. I’m sure Hangar 13 gave all his love; I felt the effort in every inch. Probably the best character in the game was the city. But I also felt the pressure, the checklist that they needed to fill, the deadlines and the half delivered game.    … Expand

It's a shame that this game has the "Mafia" tittle because mafia 1 and 2 were great but this game, just a repetitive garbage.

    My review stands on par with the rest of the bad reviews posted here. Have been let down very badly by 2k games and their piece of **** Mafia 3. Mafia 2 was way better and had left me in lot of hopes on this one which they have let down.
    I recommend every gamer to not buy or download this stupid game and play and waste time.

    to be honest this is the worst game i ever played since GTA 2 , i dont even believe that who did this game are real developers !!! if they are , they should quit making games forever or even they should be put in to a trial for being this arrogant after testing the game and distributing it . **** you Hangar 13, **** you 2K Games, all you motha****ers !!!

    I gave it a 1 for the excellent music track. Pretty much everything else about the game is bad. Some of the older Mafia titles are quite good and I have enjoyed those in the past. This trash was made for consoles and that usually destroys what might have been a good game as it did here.

    -So many bug and glitch
    -more likely to crash during gameplay
    -repetitive mission

    overall mafia is okay,for those who want story instead long term free roam game or destroy everything lies.

    I can stand the low fps, the not so good graphic, and also some random crashes. I like the music.
    What i don't really like is the gameplay, so boring and repetitive. Kill all the guys, kill 2 minor boss, kill a major boss, repeat.
    Where is the wonderful story and the thrill from the first mafia ? It's all gone. A bad GTA clone.

    The game was very good i liked the story. But it feels repetitive after progressing the story. And nothing to do after you finish the missions. They should release some free dlcs soon.

    I like the game. Good story with deep and political background. Story game is enjoyable. Is not a GTA V, but it should not be expected. I appreciate straightforward story rather than doing 200 missions and getting a short argument.

El primer problema es precisamente ese, es un juego inacabado, lanzado con demasiados problemas, sin avisar de problemas de compatibilidad con ciertos procesadores (Phenom II p.ej) y con la cada vez más habitual estrategia de inflar el precio con conceptos absurdos. El juego completo no debería costar cerca de 70 euros y punto.

    El juego en si es excelente, puede ser más abierto que los anteriores, pero fuera de la historia y las misiones "opcionales" no hay nada interesante que hacer. En ese sentido no es ningún GTA V.

    El combate intenta ser algo más realista de lo habitual en estos juegos, añade un sigilo un poco simplón pero entretenido y hasta cierto punto te deja escoger como ejecutar las misiones.

    Los precios de las armas en el juego son exagerados y por más negocios que controles siempre te van a resultar muy caras y lo que es peor además no se pueden guardar de ninguna forma, tendrás que comprarlas cada vez que cambies. Este detalle arruina un poco la diversión.

    La conducción esta bien, pero el daño visible en los coches da varios saltos atrás con respecto a Mafia I y II, es realmente malo en ese sentido, sinceramente, da hasta vergüenza ajena.

    A día de hoy no tienes un garage en el que guardar coches y acabarás usando los pretederminados para el personaje la mayoría del tiempo, afortunadamente 3 de ellos son bastante atractivos, pero si no te gustan no hay otra opción.

    La historia es excelente, aunque las elecciones que te permiten hacer durante la mayor parte del juego son un poco cutres y no tienen demasiado sentido (distribuir la ciudad entre tres subjefes, a cambio de distintos servicios), al final mejora en ese sentido, aunque sospecho que la mayoría conseguiremos el mismo final de los varios disponibles.

    Como vaya a ser de rejugable va a depender mucho de lo que añadan. A día de hoy poco más que Mafia II.

    Sólo lo recomiendo para los muy aficionados a este tipo de juego. Como fánatico del estilo no podía dejarlo pasar, pero si no es tu caso, probablemente disfrutes más de GTA V.    … Expand

    I haven't played the game yet and don't think i will, from the videos ive seen the game looks like nothing special.. looks just like the same open world bs we've all seen in the past, and everyeye i just want to point out that we shouldn't have to finish the game to appreciate it or even like it.. we should like it while we are playing the damn game XD rating 80 so everyeye can see this.

    FPS drops to 0!
    Freezes, bugs and crashes. It is totally impossible to play. Graphics from 2010 and such bugs and FPS dpops.
    Horrible console port.
    Not worth a penny.

The graphics are 1990s at best, the game has clearly been rushed throughout and there is nothing good to even say about it. it is safe to say Hanger 13 have well and truly ruined their reputation with their first effort of a game, maybe they should have stuck to a game that is on their level like pong maybe?

    After so many years of waiting it's as though they have applied a Watch Dogs feel to the game. The graphics are nice in places but even now the Illusion engine from Mafia 2 is better. It has gone incredibly towards the arcade side, and not in a good way. Repetative gameplay that for me at least does not immerse me in the game, and I'm incredibly disappointed this was the end product. ThisAfter so many years of waiting it's as though they have applied a Watch Dogs feel to the game. The graphics are nice in places but even now the Illusion engine from Mafia 2 is better.     I had waited this game for 6 years. This is totally dishonor to previous Mafia series... And no clear explanation on Vito & Joe. 2K deceived Mafia fans with this horrible game. Shame on you 2K Games. You ruined it this time.

    solid game, nothing amazing about it, but a number of things done well, that games such as GTA5 fail at, mainly actual things to do in the in-game world. it is repetitive, but what GTA clone isn't, graphics need work and issues with it not crashing regularly.

    I loved the Story for this game. being huge fan of the 1st and 2nd i believe they topped those with the 3rd. After the update and allowing unlimited FPS or 30/60, definitely has helped. use a 1070GTX all maxed out on the graphics, the game looks damn awesome.

    I'm enjoying mafia 3 even though it doesn't really feel like a mafia game but rather a good revenge story. If you go into this game expecting GTA or Witcher 3 content then you might want to wait until a sale, but if you like good stories and gun fights you will get a kick out of this game.

    Ich kann Mafia III nicht weiterempfehlen, da es selbst wenn man die technischen Fehler ausblendet nur an Potenzial der Marke und des Settings kratzt. Zu wenig wurde sich während des Entwicklungsprozesses um die Fortführung der Kern Markenwerte der Mafia Serie Gedanken gemacht. Mit dem Resultat das ein massentaugliches 08/15-Spiel ohne jeglichen Wiedererkennungswert sich den Namen Mafia III gibt.

    Useless game. Full of bugs and glitches, crashes every 20-30 minutes. The only good thing is the storyline, very good storyline. For that reason i give it a rating of 3.

    In overall by its game-play style, mechanics, strategy of story telling, arcade alike overall style (x-ray view - wtf????) this product reminds me a lot of such Ubisoft rubbish as Watch Dogs (capturing towers, stupid - linear AI's, practically non existent stealth elements), all FarCry series, except first, which was really great (again capturing towers/copy paste basis and the rest of that similar crap), Asassin Creed (the same stupid approach, capturing towers - AGAIN?!?!) and this list can be extended. It just shows how eager are companies in gathering fast and easy money, not giving a sh*t about their reputation and quality of product - it is much easier to copy the mechanics from other crap, just re-skin the product and resell the same a multiple times what so ever. This is just another copy paste crap that hamsters, owning the consoles will anyway consume without objectively seeing the reality, whose vision is blurred by heavy and expensive marketing machinery, which most likely costed more than the actual development of the game (as usual).

    In other words, this product is really far from what a real, genuine Mafia series was offering - with their special tension to little details, like interaction with different objects (cars, buildings, transport, citizens and so on), comparably much smarter AI's, much more interesting and exciting story, more realistic than "arcadish" approach of making both previous Mafia games, which is what a real Mafia fans where loving. As one reviewer wrote: "It is far more Saints Row III than anything else...", which says it all.

    In a conclusion, just search on the Internet for some comparison of detail of Mafia 1 (which is a 14!!!! year old game) or 2 vs Mafia 3 and you will understand how much worse this product has become.    … Expand

    a satisfying ending that easily **** on mafia 2,s stupid ending
    satisfying stealth mechanics
    and the best soundtrack i have ever heard since the witcher 3

    killing enemies in cars while in a car yourself was far to easy
    90% of the mission objectives in the game is just kill this steal this destroy that or all 3
    the pc being locked at 30 fps the first 3 to 4 days of its release
    graphic quality being inconsistent beyond the cut sense just look at the sky when you want to see the worst of it

    Great story, brilliant acting, average gameplay, no fast travel. The fact that this is a console port leaps out, but it isn't "broken" as some mention--just "console clunky." At least it isn't some pay-to-win, micro-transaction game, like every other AAA game these days, and for that, we should all be grateful.

The only good thing that i have experienced is driving its better than Mafia 2 which was a marvelous game.I played half way through Mafia 3 and have uninstalled.

    Весь сюжет и атмосфера рушатся бесхитростностью геймплея. Захват района занимает часа полтора и это вам придется провернуть раз 15. Причем затравка всегда одна и та же: ну этот парень рулит районом, но он прячется, пойди вымани его и убей(завербуй). Хоть бы раз я появился на районе и местный босс вылетел бы на меня, как говорится, guns blazing, и мне не пришлось бы снова проворачивать всю эту мутотень. Но нет. Езди по району, ставь прослушку, вали тупых болванчиков пачками, а потом тебя вознаградят 15 минутами более-менее адекватного геймплея и 2-минутной кат-сценой. Повторяйте пока не стошнит.
    О, а теперь давайте подробней пройдемся по самому процессу нанесению ущерба мафии. Каждый раз вы будете зачищать одну и ту же локацию минимум два раза. Один раз вы придете туда и кого-нибудь допросите/что-то взорвете/украдете/кого-то убьете, а второй раз вы вернетесь туда же убивать мини-босса. КАЖДЫЙ РАЗ. А иногда приходится и по 3 раза возвращаться, потому как ты не взорвал какой-то там ящик, а больше вариантов нанести ущерб не осталось. Зачищаешь локацию еще разок и бегаешь ищешь, что же ты пропустил.
    О, а вам понравились внезапные дополнительные миссии в ГТА, вроде съемки кинозвезд, спонтанных пробежек, спасения схваченной бандюгами девушки? - Забудьте. Вот там стоит грузовик, угоните и перегоните его через всю карту. Повторить еще 15 раз.
    Это я молчу про Титановые кусты, которые, черт возьми, тот же грузовик останавливают на полной скорости. Я молчу про волшебные заборы, которые ГГ не может перелезть просто потому что(ГГ вообще много куда не может попасть просто потому что). Я молчу про баги и просто дебильный дизайн уровней из-за которых приходится перезагружать чекпоинты.
    В сухом остатке, мы имеем хороших персонажей и неплохой сюжет, отличный саундтрек и на этом все. К сожалению, все это перечеркивается невероятным однообразием и цикличностью геймплея. И пусть Господь даст вам сил выдержать это занудство и скуку, чтоб в тех самых 2-минутных проблесках кат-сцен разглядеть вышеупомянутые плюсы.

Truth is, even GTA V closer to the Mafia formula than MAFIA III.

    Why?

    First off, the formula is 30% Mafia and the rest 70% of the formula is copied- and pasted DIRECTLY from the typical, generic gameplay, themes, features, style and mechanics you see in all other games. You can use xrayvision and see enemies through walls by pressing a button (they glow read) which is copied from Batman. The ''brutal takedown'' are directly copied from Hitman including many HUD-elements such as ''Trespassing'' appearing on the screen when you enter restricted areas. Weapons on the ground has glowing icons over them. The game even borrow ''one punch, one kill'' from GTA V; punch a person one time and the fall down dead. It is directly copied - and there is too much of it. The screen feels littered with HUD elements.

    Secondly, the game is dumbed-down. Xrayvision might fit in Batman, but certainly not in a mature (at least supposed to be mature) gangster game such as Mafia. Neither does the devs love for Hollywood explosions fit into the game; no it does not make sense that a car explodes just because you put a few bullets into it. A part from the fact that the game is dumbed down in terms of aids for the player, the AI is dumbed down as well. AI is dumb as rock; they are more or less deaf, blind and lacks shooting accuracy. Shootouts becomes a shooting gallery.

    Third, in terms of story, Lincoln Clay is a black Vietnam-vet with superhuman abilities. Lincoln Clay is a lone-wolf, one-man army. The whole gameplay evolves very much around a vietnam vet literally going RAMBO and takes down whole crime syndicates on his own. The storytelling is good though - and cutscenes is what makes it worthwhile playing at all. But then there is just repetetive missions that has very little to offer. Typical gameplay is running to cover - mow down enemies - and maybe sprint towards them in full speed to use a quick stealth-takedown aided by a bombastic sound effect to it. Or jump out of a speeding car watching it crash into the bad guys and then and exlode.

    Fourth, In terms of graphics, the game is nothing special. There is as a matter of fact many issues. The skybox is horrible, there is pop-ups, low resolution textures, and the screen game is drenched in a orange-tint. Graphics is generally not a big deal - gameplay is what i consider most important. But Mafia III got does nothing of it right.

    Final verdict: Mafia III is not a special game. It is certainly not worthy the Mafia heritage.    … Expand

    30 FPS lock on launch is garbage, and it takes an awful lot of ram (reduces all of my other running processes, making them unresponsive, and takes up 60%). I can say the Witcher 3, a game with three times more content, takes up less ram (40% with responsive processes) while not causing me a near blue screen. (I'm on a standard 8 gigs.)

    Controls are solid and general mechanics (on-foot, driving, shooting, stealth) are not bad at all.

    Historical accuracy and setting is always a plus.

    It's K. I waited for this game ever since 2011, but it's not living up to my hype. I'd be fuming if I didn't get this for free, and remember guys, the rest of the game will come out within the course of a year.     My older rig (PhenomII x6 1090T + 16GB DDR3 + GTX 960) couldn't run this game as it needs SSE4.x Instruction set for some reason which my Processor Lacks . So I had to play this on a Friends PC.

    1. Graphics : Terrible Terrible graphics - All I see is low res textures with washed out colors and a horrible yellow filter . Everything else goes to models, animation and textures. So one can guess, why the game is so blurry and why it can’t be fixed by any patch. They simply made it with year 2000 textures. Most of them do not exceed 512×512 pixels in resolution. Meh.

    2. AI - Non Existent .
    3. Repetitive ? - yes , but i didn't mind it.
    4. Combat - Satisfying , not challenging at all - but GOOD.
    5. Story - Good .
    6. Vehicle control - easy , mafia 2 had harder controls .
    7. Optimization : Really really poor - A game that looks this bad with such a terrible AI should not demand this kinda resource.

    Question to the Devs - why do you need SSE4.x instruction set for this dogs**t?

The atmosphere the developers created in their version of New Orleans, LA is magical, and maintains a creepy other-worldliness undertone akin to the Louisiana atomosphere of True Detective Season 1 and parts of NOLA itself if you've ever had the privilege of visiting. The locales and architecture are diverse, the storyThis game is so much better than the reviews are making it out to be. I was not alive in the 60s, but I appreciate that the developers were able to create an experience that is evocative of an equally magical and dangerous era. As most open world games take place in the present day, they lose the fantasy element that this game has going in its favor. Also, even locked at 30 frames, it looks incredible and plays just fine on a capable PC. If you have the capability to play at 60 fps with the setting bumped up, it looks better than GTA V in my opinion.… Expand

    The graphics are good, but not incredible, really not a "2016 graphics" game, but close. I mean, theres a lot of work to do about the general optimization of the game and fix the low textures issue. But it will be fixed like always. No guys, it´s not an AC: Unity and Batman Arkham Knight all over again.

    The gameplay is good when you are on foot, but driving, well, not so good, not GTA V good. I would say an average between Watch Dogs being terrible and GTA V being amazing. But very playable nonetheless. The AI is not that bright, truth be said.

    What is good? Well, the story is amazing, very rich plot with great characters. The soundtrack is also very good as it was to be expected given the time period. The map is very rich in details and full of landmarks.

    Some minor details also deserve a mention, like when the police is called in a black neighbourhood and the police doesn´t show at all, or takes forever to get there. Or like when you are on a white area and NPCs will give you all kinds of bad looks and offensive comments.

    This "it´s not a Mafia game because it´s not the italian mob" or "it doesn´t feel like a Mafia game" complaint is not fair at all. I mean, everybody knew that this installment would not be centered around the italian mob, so why the heck did you buy the game?! Didn´t you know the protagonist was black? Didn´t you know that only sicilians can become made men? Or worse, didn´t you all know that there are many other race/ethnic based criminal organizations? Serious, guys, don´t be haters!

    Well, could 2K and Hangar 13 have done a better job for the PC port? Yes! But i´ve seen worse. Faaaar worse.

    If you don´t fell like buying the game now, wait for a Steam sale, but do play it someday. It´s very good.    … Expand

I absolutely love the graphics on low settings. I don't quite understand why people say it looks bad. The texture quality is outstanding on low settings, perhaps people want too much. Driving feels bad, it's true it sucks after Mafia II's driving physics. I also miss NVidia's PhysicX, it's a shame they couldn't make a deal with NVidia and put it in just like in the second Mafia. The things I liked the most is combat and story. Combat feels really good, it's fresh, the AI feels like a real player, not a bot who always knows where you are. They also go "yolo" sometimes, which is always fun to watch. What about the story? Well, I liked the "big missions" you get to play once you complete X ammount of unnecessary "side-missions", but even that gets repetitive and boring after some time. Also, when I first saw the return of Vito in the first teaser-trailer, I was excited, but now I think they shouldn't have touched him and other Mafia II characters. The ending of Mafia III completely ruined the dramatic and shocking ending of Mafia II.

    Overall:

    Worst Mafia game yet.
    Worth buying on sale.

    Having to start over and over would be a serious issue even if we would want to start over when we finish the game, but in case of Mafia 3 it isn't that case. The game is far too repetitive for that, and as you don't have much choices with storyline impact, the replay value is low. Ohh and when you have to try a mission a few times not because it poses a challenge, but because you have to restart it because of a crash to desktop that breaks the fun.

    At first the story and the setting looks interesting. But even the society lacks detail and the picture we see is inaccurate. And what's even worse? It isn't a living setting. When your enemy learns you are alive and you are gunning for him, he doesn't try to take you out... he is just waiting for you to take him down. And once you realize this issue and start to notice several others, add unimaginative mission design, issues with AI (both combat AI and traffic AI) and gameplay elements that break the immersion (how wiretapping lets you see through the wall in intel view)... You know, that just doesn't feel right.

    And it makes sure when you would have to restart due to a bug, you don't want to fight with the same repetitive mission you had to try 7 times due to crash to death. Good reason to abandon the game halfway.

    You have read the rants about the graphics. But to keep a long game fresh there are tricks developers can do with music (and sound editing)... But when even the radio is repetitive because they can save a few $ with it, and it takes away a potential redeeming value.

    I don't want to sound rude, but official reviews have to side with a ill interpreted political correctness. But since when organized crime offers free food for the poor? When loyalty and family values are "too important" for them? It never happened. When you want to portray one color as good and other color as bad and the image you display is this flawed? That is a HUGE issue.

    Multicultural criminal empire, you lead not with leadership skills, not with men who were loyal to you in the beginning... Not by politics, diplomacy, decision making... But by shooting enemies. And now all the people you "helped with it" are loyal to you even if you have killed their friends and family before. And they even take you as leader when they have led organized crime, was capable of fooling you, using you and you lack leadership traits? Why... Because PC **** means we need a black superhero without any in character explanation. If you are super PC and call that as excellent: Fine...

    But I am sure that games like the good old GTA: San Andreas had more "believable" heroes. With some leadership skills, dedication, flaws and strengths.     When I move in the game, it feels like they barely used some motion capture technologies for the character movement, or some more advanced physics engine for rigging and motion of characters. When I remember some tech videos from 10 years ago, they had better technologies used for character motion than Mafia III alltogether.

    Music is really weak, leaves no emotion in You.

    Character performance is very poor due to weak facial expressions [afaik, games like this are all about facial expressions] and a lot of bugs in graphic is taking it's toll in the game atmosphere.

    Ai and enemy movement is superbly dull. It's totally worthless taking stealth approach in missions, since when You wreak havoc, You only need some basic counter-strike skill to pass through enemies.

    Overall this game is definitely not worth Your time, money, nor energy spent playing it.

    Go and play tetris, mines, or Pokémon Go, rather than Mafia III. This game is super bad. And not because of frame lock, I'm writing the review playing the game on 60 fps cap.

    Oh, and another thing. I naively thought that Asus X99 Deluxe II, Core i7 6850k @ 4.7 GHz, 32 gigs of RAM, 1.2TB Intel 750 SSD NVMe PCi-e drive with humongous throughput all powered by MSi GTX 1080 SeaHawk X will at least give me an option to play the game on high details in 2k. Well, here's the newsflash. I can't in play it in full HD xD

    If You bought this game, throw it to the trash, or return it. It's a bad game overall and as I wrote in the beginning, there's absolutely and whatsoever no headroom for improvement.     It's too bad because execpt the visual aspect and graphic gliches, the late 60's atmosphere is cool. Anyway, I will not buy games without reviews from no on, it looks like an alpha version but i paid for a finished game... :(

    One of this year's better open world games, but poorly optimized with a number of issues including flickering, visual glitches at the edges of the screen, and frequent unpredictable crashes. Game is a 7.5/10, port is a 4/10. Having to wait two whole days for 60fps was no big deal, but that's far the end of issues, unfortunately.

    Relacionando con la historia me parece bueno, el juego si tiene algo que contar, posee buenos personajes y buen desarrollo de estos. Muy buena ambientación y banda sonora.

    Lo malo seria, por la parte técnica, gráficos que parecen de la generación pasada y peor diría yo, no a la altura de los actuales, mala optimización para lo pobre que es en temas de gráficos, añadiendo que no puedes jugar a unos 60 fps estables con una PC gamer de gama alta, la IA también muy mala, no representa un reto en el sigilo es muy fácil colarse en instalaciones enemigas.

    Entorno a la jugabilidad, es buena, es cómoda, las ejecuciones violentas me parecen bien, pero lo que haces en el juego es siempre lo mismo, colarte en un edificio y matar a un objetivo, lo que cae en que en el juego siempre estarás haciendo lo mismo, muy monótonas las actividades y misiones.

    DO NOT BUY! In 5 hours I experienced 4 crashes, 2 times the entire PC crashed and the last one corrupted my savegame. The game is not optimized at all and even the actual game itself obviously was not finished.

    This is a lazy copy&paste port and it's release in this state is inexcusable. Shame on you 2K!

    I am writing this review based on what little time I have played the game (on what little time the game has allowed me to play since it came out).

    I will start with the Cons: 1. No mouse or keyboard proper rebinding. You CAN rebind to any key you want, but the keys may not work at all, especially if you rebind using the right side keyboard and mouse buttons, actions will NOT work    I am writing this review based on what little time I have played the game (on what little time the game has allowed me to play since it came out).

    I will start with the Cons:
    1. No mouse or keyboard proper rebinding. You CAN rebind to any key you want, but the keys may not work at all, especially if you rebind using the right side keyboard and mouse buttons, actions will NOT work anymore, and you will be forced to use the wasd scheme. Not good for Disabled gamers. or gamers used to playing on the right side of keyboard, or using different mouse keys.
    2. Extra mouse buttons are not seen, nor are they mappable.
    3. There are 4 different FOV's in this game, and they are all different, and they change about every minute to 2 minutes. Fine if you are 15 feet from a tv, not good when you are a foot from a Monitor.
    4. The game is worse than Max Payne 3 or the worst Tomb Raider at taking control away from the player.
    5. On monster rigs, even with their so called fps patch, the game is still limited to 62 fps, on 144hz monitors.
    6. NO FOV slider, ini, cfg, anything to change the fov. Get ready for headaches and migraines.
    7. Graphics are as dated as 2003-2004. Only the cut scenes look good. But, even the cut scenes have doubling in them, like the AA is off, or maybe its the blur they put in.
    8. Shooting has no weight, or feel to it. It feels like an old arcade shooter from the 80's.
    9. Driving feels like they took it from the game Driver: San Francisco. Feels more like drift car than even most drift car games.
    10.
    11. Shadows from clouds. They follow you indoors, as well as ABRUPTLY cutting off one inch one way or the other.
    12. Shadows. You are either in pitch black, or you are in hallogen lighting. The in-game lighting cannot be adjusted correctly, its either one or the other.

    Pro's:
    1. The muscle car you drive looks nice.
    2. The narrator is excellently voiced.
    3. I will have to get back to you anything else good, as so far there isnt anything else I think is good.

When you come to play gems like Deus Ex and then play a game with the quality of Mafia 3, the truth in my case I was very disappointed, I say this sincerely, and I am not a troll who goes around hitting the game, I say to support the developer by buying the game, which plot level is supreme, that if the height almost, of great historical novels, but technically there if I'm not playing, I enjoy it as much as I can, but I think could do much better at the technical level (that you see is that the developer is not the same as the previous Mafia, 2k Czech and now Hangar13), a Mafia 2 visual level is stunningly beautiful, even today despite being a game with several years development and output currently looks beautiful, colorful, bright with a recreation of great historical scenarios that give you the feeling of living the nostalgia of those years, this Mafia 3 will feel stiff, dark, opaque, only by history is saving and therefore I'm playing, to be honest this Mafia is not the best, and ended with a detail that caught my attention when I was playing I enter my cousin and saw the game and wonder what it was, I answer is the new Mafia 3 !!!, excited, and he answers me hear it looks like xbox 360 and more direct without first impression, not excited or anything, of course if you dare to play it but hey, graphic level the impression that he had, and never forget.… Expand

    Repetitive, terrible game play, less features and things to do than mafia 2, graphics are terrible, there is almost nothing good about this game.

    Not worth it even if it go on sale for 3$

    This game is a worthy successor to the past 2 games. The story actually feels more immersive to me then the second game did. The soundtrack makes driving around in your car enjoyable. The driving can feel a little gamey, but there is a toggle to turn on realistic driving.

    The patch also fixed a lot of my minor gripes. I'm very happy with this game so far. Well done team!

    Mafia 3 is a return to the first part of the Mafia, and even worse. There is no such feature in action playing as: fuel the car, do not remain objects on the ground sleeve of bullets, pieces of glass, even the smoke from under the wheels of cars modest. Mafia 2 was much more serious and plausible Igor and Mafia 3 is a misery. Pazor developers !!!

    If the AI, graphics and a few other game play mechanics were more polished I would give it a 9 but those things bring what could be an epic game down to mediocre and **** fps caps at least they fixed it fast but why do that unless they are trying to keep console/PC versions similar

    Ideal for Leisure-Brutal-boys who have work and family! 3x the week 1 hour playing and you get 2 months of fun! For all other - specially unemployed Power Gamer - too boring.

    Worst thing in the franchise. This game is a joke only. Quests is boring as hell, all same.: Go iinterrogate a man after go destroy after go kill the boss....only this quest type in the game very very boring! And of course lot of bugs, high end pc cant running this sh!t, fps drops like hell.

    It looks really really bad. Crashes a lot. Lot's of bugs after FPS patch. Stay away from this game on pc.
    It's BATMAN all over again. Was not able to get over 40fps on a i7 6400k and GTX 980 while it looked worse than a 2016 console game

    Onwards. AI is poorly done. The game just isn't challenging. HOWEVER, I'm in it for the story. If I wanted a challenge I'd play Dark Souls. GTA V wasn't more challenging, but it definitely was MUCH less interesting. Mafia III captures the atmosphere of the late 60s wonderfully, and the black perspective is terrific. The story is very, very well done. Boss fights are incredible, with attention to details and a lot of depth. Spot on.

    The soundtrack is amazing. Much like Fallout 4, I know I'll be playing the game much after the campaign just because I'll enjoy driving around picking commie propaganda while listening to the radio. Terrific. I wish it didn't stop when I left the car, lol.

    All in all: 3.2 is a joke. It's a score given by cry-babies who never participated in creating a game. This game is amount the 4-5 best games since 2015, period. It's much better than short-as-hell GTA V, that's for sure. Do yourself a favor and check it out. This game deserves a score of 8.5, not a 3.2.    … Expand

    Was totally disappointed with the poor product.
    1) Extreme low textures - looks like a game for 2004-05 2) Brightness issues - Sometimes during cutscenes the brightness goes 100% all of a sudden - everything white, whatsoever 3) Poor framerates and FPS drops all of a sudden 4) Sluttered texture in almost every 2 minutes of gameplay -    I was waiting for this game since quite a while.
    Was totally disappointed with the poor product.

    1) Extreme low textures - looks like a game for 2004-05
    2) Brightness issues - Sometimes during cutscenes the brightness goes 100% all of a sudden - everything white, whatsoever
    3) Poor framerates and FPS drops all of a sudden
    4) Sluttered texture in almost every 2 minutes of gameplay - you see road, bushes, building - you will notice sluttered textures every 2 minutes
    5) Not at all optimized for PC - it is not even close to a Beta Release

    Pros
    1) Gameplay and Storyline is fun, nice build-up for each lead character, a smooth story line and way less deteriorating from the main mission, yet that's it.
    2) Nice music

Gone are unique to Mafia mechanics like speed limiter and stopping at red lights to not rise suspicion (because you're a career criminal it makes sense not to draw attention while driving). This is also first time a Mafia game didn't awe me with visuals. This game is ugly and the lighting engine is so broken that every sunrise and sunset looks like a atom bomb explosion. Random flashing of trees and posters... I could go on and on about that, but all of this can be fixed, what can't be fixed are the missions and boy, oh boy, those are boring. Side missions, main missions, it's all a blur. The initial story, the opening is strong, emotional and very powerful but the further you go, the less enjoyable it becomes. It's an open world game (tired of 'em yet?) filled with repetitive missions. The longer I play, the more I feel like I'm forcing myself, like it's a chore... I'm disappointed but I wasn't expecting anything great, after all, it's not 2K Czech anymore but Hangar 13... and it's their first game. Doesn't matter they have veteran developers there, they might not work together like a real team yet. This game is just mediocre, not bad, not great. Just "meh".… Expand

Как у человека без опыта вождения, "симуляторный" режим управления вызывает приятные эмоции. У "Мафии" есть даже какая-то завязка сюжета, хотя мстящий супермен, которого и пуля в голову не берет, вызываетЯ люблю 60-е. Люблю здоровенные, ревущие, мощные "баржи", оружие, которое выглядит как оружие - суровое весло M16A1, АК-47, рок-н-ролл, атмосферу южных штатов и это в "Мафии 3" есть. Как у человека без опыта вождения, "симуляторный" режим управления вызывает приятные эмоции. У "Мафии" есть даже какая-то завязка сюжета, хотя мстящий супермен, которого и пуля в голову не берет, вызывает меньше сопереживаний, чем тот же Вито. Наличествует приятная лицевая анимация, сочные кровавые убийства в рукопашной и, в общем-то, сносная графика по меркам простого обывателя. А объекты слежки наконец стали реагировать на нарушение главным героем правил ПДД и подозрительные остановки посреди дороги. С другой стороны, автомобиль, за рулем которого здоровенный негр в военной форме, следующий по пятам вот уже который поворот, вполне ожидаемо не вызывает подозрений.

    А вот чего нет, так это оптимизации, патч с анлоком фпс только показал истинное лицо - 30-40 фпс на GTX970 на средних настройках, выше только в исключительных случаях. Нет целого ряда мелочей, которые делают мир игры живым. Можно списать, конечно, отсутствие возможности вскрыть замок автомобиля на то, что Линкольн не профессиональный угонщик, хотя с другими замками он разбирается без проблем. Или стремление полицейских пристрелить чернокожего водителя за поцарапанный бампер можно обусловить традиционным для того времени расизмом, хотя стоит задуматься о лени разработчиков. На эту самую лень указывает целый ряд вещей. У путей можно стоять до второго пришествия - поездов в мире игры нет. Как и осколков стекла и стреляных гильз. Зеркала словно из фильма ужасов, изображение в них искажено и обновляется весьма неожиданно. Сверкающий хром? Не, не видели. Написать скрипт, чтобы полиция реагировала на происходяще реалистично? Зачем, если можно просто сообщить игроку, что она куплена и заведомо настроена только против него. Мелкие детали при вождении автомобиля, в духе штрафов за превышение скорости, механической коробки передач, кончающегося бензина или работающих поворотников, утрачены с первой части окончательно. Как и модель повреждения этих самых автомобилей. Но большинство из этого можно было бы простить, будь у игры захватывающий сюжет. Но и тут не обошлось без удара ниже пояса. Сюжет-то есть. Только он безбожно порезан на мелкие части и щедро разбавлен однообразным процессом захвата районов по примерно одной и той же схеме. Снова лень, лень придумывать длинный сюжет, чтобы удержать игрока на десятки часов? Да и качеством не отличается, честно сказать. Убийство Марти во второй части было трагедией, смерть второстепенных героев здесь вызывает куда меньше эмоций, слишком уж слабо они прописаны. И подобное отношение к написанию сценария встречается буквально на каждом шагу.

    С горечью на сердце могу констатировать, что пациент хоть и скорее жив, но находится в вегетативном состоянии. Задуматься о покупке стоит только большим любителям эпохи 60-х. А вот фанатам серии не стоит, это плевок в душу.    … Expand

    It has a great story, entertaining gameplay and a oozing 60´s vibe. I have played the previous mafia games and loved them to death. Both previous titles had a heavy emphasis on story and free-roaming took the back seat.     I have played the previous mafia games and loved them to death. Both previous titles had a heavy emphasis on story and free-roaming took the back seat. In this new installment, they push up free roam to a close 2nd place and does so fairly well.

    Many people like to compare this game to the GTA series, simply because it has become the hallmark of sand-box games. You wont, however, find as much to do in free roam in mafia III as in the GTA games, but what they have added is very positively adding to the game overall.

    As in previous mafia titles mafia III´s main focus in on telling a great story and i can tell you right now that it is one fantastic story. Characters are deep and the stories are impacting and entertaining. The game play itself is fun, there are a few repetitive missions throughout but they few and far apart. Physics are spot on, and especially the guns have a hefty feel to them. Technical troubles aside (pre-patch) the game runs smoothly, with some pleasing visuals and a fantastic audio backdrop.

    Mafia III isn’t necessarily a bad game, but it is definitely not a true heir to the Mafia series. The story is rich and the gameplay is satisfying (although it’s nothing special), but having played the previous games in the series (especially the first one), I never felt like I was playing a Mafia game.
