This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is way too slow at the beginning and rushed at the end. The superpower is quite irrelevant and useless. You learned a lot by accessing the past events through designated objects but have no use for that information. You can absorb people's emotions but you can do it twice throughout the game with no consequences. You rarely have a chance to use your power, and most of it is insignificant. You don't establish a real connection with anyone except the one you romanced, and it's so obvious. At the end of the game where you confront Jed, those who decided to help you later on sit awkwardly silence at the beginning. To the point that I feel Alex is totally alone in this scenario, despite her running around trying to help people. I helped Charlotte on the biggest role with Ethan, I helped Eleanor by telling Riley about her condition and her tasks in flower shop, I helped Mac's relationship and his mental breakdown, I helped Riley for telling the truth about Eleanor, I helped Ryan from suicidal thought, and I helped Ethan for his boring long game. What did I get in return? NOTHING, because most of them didn't even show up; they just... disappeared. These characters are extremely selfish, and what is the point of helping them except keeping the game longer. At the end, I decided to **** this town and left with Steph, and the game gave me an unsatisfied ending. NO ONE, those I helped, even go out and say good bye; even Gabe disappeared after my decision without words. NO ONE CARE ABOUT YOU. Improved graphics and good musics, but too many plot holes. A total waste of time. Expand

The main problem is, the game is boring. Plus, devs decision to make main character introvert geek girl again(!) looks like a hope to trigger LiS 1 fans and nothing more than that. Alex is the quite shallow character, she has no charisma of her own, I personally feel no empathy to her which makes it difficult for me to involve myself into the local drama.

The town is nice, graphics is good, mocap looks great in cutscenes. Nothing else could be said about this game.

Such bad stuff is hard to see nowadays. Literally a non-game. Social simulator where the player is asked to press a button every 5 minutes of cut scene. No gameplay, history of a foregone and banal comparable to elementary school for simplicity, 1/2 important moments throughout the game. Like an episode of a very long and flat series.

It's basically: "trauma trauma trauma trauma, emotional unstable, care about her, please care about her, abused, trauma trauma trauma trauma.......
Oh, here is the finale: Here, just watch the trauma, also the barkeeper killed people. Now do you wanna marry the lumberjack or Chole 2.0?"

How about this one ☝️, OPEN the game with her childhood. That way, we actually GIVE A **** ABOUT ANYTHING...

Technically this game looks good enough, but the story is extremely weak, it doesn't make feel strong emotions, and the so-called choices cannot even closely be compared with hard choices from the games of Dontnod. And there is absolutely no gameplay here, it can't even be called a walker-game. True Colors is a long visual novel full of uninteresting conversations. Bring the Dontnod back to the series!

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

Fantastic execution of this title's superpower; creative and artistic. On top of that, Life is Strange: True Colors is indeed a next-gen title in the franchise, with all the technical improvements especially in the graphics and animation.

The power, like I said, was amazing; but it didn't offer much in the way of gameplay. The scenes were dragged on too slow to stretch the playtime while keeping the story too on-rails for a "choices matter" game, then ending in a flat, disappointing conclusion.

Don't get me started with the 60-dollar AAA price tag of this game. Horrendous for the type of game itself, and even worse for the quality of the gameplay/writing you're getting.

As a die-hard fan of the first two games, it's heartbreaking to say that Life is Strange: True Colors has many of the right ingredients but ultimately lacks the magic or the emotional resonance needed to live up to the Life is Strange name. And given that the game can easily be completed in 2-3 sittings and almost the entire game takes place within a one-block radius, I encourage you to to wait until this game is cheaper before buying it (I admit to feeling personally gypped after paying full price for this).

Life is Strange games are as story-focused as video games can be, but this game's lack of a satisfying story is borderline tragic given the bar set by the previous games. I could literally tell you the entire story in a single sentence. I unfortunately saw the main plot twist coming from miles away and was not at all surprised, which makes me long for the days when the first Life is Strange masterfully fooled me until the very end and left me visibly shell-shocked at its conclusion. And the main revelation that Alex ultimately uncovers is rather underwhelming given that it's the basis for the game's entire mystery, and it's also a little contrived and not entirely believable on a practical level (really, no one else in this small town knew about this? + a bunch more obvious questions that I won't raise here due to spoilers). Compound this with the fact that the game is extremely short and, while pure length is not everything, many of these hours are not even very meaningful. For example, one chapter is almost entirely comprised of doing a live-action role play with a young boy, and while I love the idea of a LARP as much as the next person, in execution it felt akin to taking a mostly unenthusiastic boy trick-or-treating for an entire chapter. The LARP did not move the story forward even one inch, nor was it very emotionally impactful. There are only five chapters, and this is the entirety of one of them. Compare this to the prior two games, where each chapter packed the punch of a full-length movie and took you on such a plot-advancing journey that the game would have to provide a full-blown recap at the start of each chapter just to remind you of the sheer amount of things that happened in the last one. Add to this the fact that True Colors takes place almost entirely within a single neighborhood block and you just really don't feel like you're going on much of a journey at all, literally or figuratively. When True Colors ended my honest thought was, "...That's it?" It's an interesting story that's worth experiencing, but it's just a very brief and not very satisfying one.

To be fair, while the overall story is very brief and underwhelming, the emotional core rightfully lies in the characters themselves, and in that regard the game has plenty of heart. Alex is a fantastic character fully realized by a great actor, and the game admirably explores mental health, grief, anxiety, anger, and other deep questions. An easy-to-please person may find these attempts sufficient. It's just that these attempts are nowhere near as emotionally impactful as the first two games simply because the game does not provide a very meaningful journey from which to thrive. There are some exceptions; a segment exploring Alex's childhood was mostly well done (even if it came far too late in the story to matter), and her final confrontation with the main antagonist was masterful. Ryan and Steph are fantastic, helped by great actors and dialogue and graphics that are lightyears ahead of the prior games. None of these make up for the shortcomings above though, and the result is a game that is interesting, with plenty of heart, and is overall worth experiencing (at a lower price!), but is hugely disappointing by Life is Strange standards.

This game failed to deliver similar LIS game experience previous games did bring me. The story looks rushed, some places I even think it was deliberately rushed. Even though there are choices to make in this game, they don't seem too different one from another. It's like picking between two apples - one is green and the other is red: at the end of the day, it's still an apple you choose. So when you've finished the game and you're looking at the charts of other players' decisions you kinda think to yourself: so that is all there was? I almost never felt it for the characters, even during their hardest times. I suppose I didn't have enough time and opportunity to get to know them better. Then, when playing particular parts of the game, it suddenly feels like the character is a naive 12 y.o. girl. But seriously, when making some decision, Alex is being way too naive and for some reason over-simplifies some important events and decisions. The superpower itself is very interesting and is worth exploring, but we don't particularly see any development on this throughout the whole game. Expand

A step up in quality in most aspects - except for where it really matters. It looks a lot more polished, but the tame story and Alex's "power" really doesn't make for a immersive experience. The story is very weak and short compared to the first game. I tried really hard to give this game a chance, but ultimately—it did not deliver.

Played 40 minutes. Hated the whole thing. Sluggish pace. Binary decision-making. Dull characters. If you didn't grab my attention after 40 minutes, what are you doing? Dull. Dull. Dull. On the plus side, it's pretty. Also, why can't I select a screen resolution in fullscreen? I had to switch between the dx11 and dx12 versions to escape 720p hell. Asked for a refund.

True Colors is the most “alive” Life is Strange so far thanks to a technological leap, but it lacks spark and tries to compensate for it by referencing or imitating the original game.
