Life is Strange : True Colors is a okay written narative with a good soundtrack and a nice art style.
Deck Nine still need to work more on the Gameplay,it would be very nice if your choices changed more what comes out like in Detroid : Become Human.
I cant recommend buying the game at full price,i think the game is overpriced and you should only buy it when its on discount or 3rd party

The characters themselves are another strong part, especially Steph and Ryan. The game feels very short though, I wanted to spend more time with them. The main story is kind of uneventful and short, but the characters definitely carry this game.

I also want to praise the game for its rich options in the Accessibility menu, especially the option for having more reaction time for the time-based decisions. The most frustrating thing about these games is having a too little time for reacting, not being able to fully read and understand the options, then the timer runs out and the game automatically picks an option for me. Screw that, the whole point of these games is making the decisions yourself. And this is a franchise with supernatural abilities, so don't tell me it is actually "realistic" that in certain scenarios you should have a limited reaction time.

If you liked any of the other Life is Strange games, you will like this, too!

    +Excellent setting
    +Great voice talent
    +Decent script
-Most major plot points are unchangeable
-Strange performance issues even with high end pc

Was unsure what this would be like coming from a different studio but i was pleasently surprised by this game. Definitely worth a play through if youre a fan of this game genre.

Well ... after finishing the game I think it is one of the best games I have played, brilliant story, brilliant soundtrack and nice mini-games, well-written characters, admittedly, the game takes quite a long time, but I think it is worth "suffering" to see a really well written story.
    I heartily recommend :)

    Soundtrack: AWSOME
Story: Quite good ( It has some unnecessary and boring moments )
Soundtracks, visuals, and characters create a great atmosphere.
Powers were much more fun to use than I initially expected.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is way too slow at the beginning and rushed at the end. The superpower is quite irrelevant and useless. You learned a lot by accessing the past events through designated objects but have no use for that information. You can absorb people's emotions but you can do it twice throughout the game with no consequences. You rarely have a chance to use your power, and most of it is insignificant. You don't establish a real connection with anyone except the one you romanced, and it's so obvious. At the end of the game where you confront Jed, those who decided to help you later on sit awkwardly silence at the beginning. To the point that I feel Alex is totally alone in this scenario, despite her running around trying to help people. I helped Charlotte on the biggest role with Ethan, I helped Eleanor by telling Riley about her condition and her tasks in flower shop, I helped Mac's relationship and his mental breakdown, I helped Riley for telling the truth about Eleanor, I helped Ryan from suicidal thought, and I helped Ethan for his boring long game. What did I get in return? NOTHING, because most of them didn't even show up; they just... disappeared. These characters are extremely selfish, and what is the point of helping them except keeping the game longer. At the end, I decided to **** this town and left with Steph, and the game gave me an unsatisfied ending. NO ONE, those I helped, even go out and say good bye; even Gabe disappeared after my decision without words. NO ONE CARE ABOUT YOU. Improved graphics and good musics, but too many plot holes. A total waste of time. Expand

Not regretting the buy, but I'm a little bit disappointed.

+ The environments, soundtracks, visuals and character dialogues creates a great atmosphere.
    - The story is way too thin. It wasn't nearly as engaging as the story from the other games and there weren't really that many impactful events.

Very good story interactive game, truly on top animations for this gen.
Totally fell in love with all the characters, and has its up and downs like only LiS does It.
Only negative thing I have to say Is that maybe the ending was a bit rushed, all that set-up resolved in such little time, but apart from that is truly a great expierence. Really looking forward to the next installment in

This story lacked substance, it feels like Deck Nine played it super safe for the sake of pleasing everybody.

Your choices don't really matter either. You only get happy endings, come on now... give us the opportunity to fail and suffer the consequences.

Decent game, but disappointing considering the potential it had and how incredible Life is Strange 1 was. And I wasn't even expecting much from it.

I just haven't felt this much emotional finishing a up a game in a really long time, and that's exactly what I expect from a Life is Strange game. This is just a massive improvement on the second installment in the series and, although the first game is yet to be dethroned, True Colors didn't stand far behind at all.

The game is shorter than its predecessors, and as murder mysteries go, the plot is lacking a bit. Also gameplaywise it does not improve at all from the previous games and can be boring at times when looking for everything that world has to offer.

But apart from those few negative points, I think that this game offers a really special experience. The soundtrack is just beautiful and varied, portraying perfectly the setting and mood of every scene. It was really the core of the most emotional scenes in the game, along with the fantastic performances for each and every character, specially from Erika Mori as the protagonist Alex. What I didn't expect would make such a huge difference is the improvement to the facial expressions. The characters and the interactions between them feel so real and it's possible to actually tell exactly how they're feeling without even listening to the dialogue. Regarding the characters themselves, this is as great as expected from a Life is Strange game. Alex is such a sympathetic, fun and relatable protagonist to play as, and the game allows us to really explore the lives of the other characters and feel for them as they accompany Alex throughout this journey.

All of this adds up to create this beautiful and heart touching experience that I'm sure won't get out of my head anytime soon and that I strongly recommend for every LiS fan out there.

Plus, devs decision to make main character introvert geek girl again(!) looks like a hope to trigger LiS 1 fans and nothing more than that.

Lis true color is like this guilty teen drama that you certainly started watching out of boredom but finished it while in some sort of time dilation. Entertaining, enjoyable, and deliciously melodramatic yes, but with mediocre writing, a lot of emotional pandering and an uncanny sense of… fake.

First, it’s pretty, but where arcadia bay was somewhat grounded, here Haven looks like well… heaven, a somewhat woke heaven. A perfectly laid out town, surrounded by majestic mountains, sublimed by crazy sunsets, hell even graffiti looks like some artist work. Add the cinematography that do its very best to get all the most DRAMATIC shot of whatever happens at any given moment, so much so that when there is a down time the cameraman feels oblige to pan the camera around like it is a freaking traveling commercial! everything starts to become heavenly… blend.
Next let’s talk gameplay, moment to moment gameplay is obviously not a focus but here there is quite nothing. Whatever you do, choose, think, Alex is locked so tightly in her destiny that as the player you have no agency. Which is a shame because with powers like she possesses you could easily imagine some kind of detective, or manipulation mechanic that would dictate the path of the game.
But all this is secondary, this game heart is its story and characters if the heart is beating, we’re saved right? Well, I hope ambulance can reach Haven because this story is in dire need of some CPR action. Characters are so 1 dimensional that if Alex had more than 1.5 in social skills, she would not need her powers at all. No scratch that, since her real power is indeed to be able to read and edit the scenario on the fly, her powers will change to fit the situation, she never really makes wrong choices, she is strong and somewhat unfazed by fall damage, everyone likes her, she… she’s a Mary sue?
I don’t think it is a good game, but I still recommend it, with a friend or alone, in a *guilty teen drama* or a *dating Steph sim* mindset it can be quite enjoyable. But sadly, I’m afraid that I would much prefer going back in time to Arcadia bay that staying 1 more minute in this fake paradise.

Night In The Woods.

The power, like I said, was amazing; but it didn't offer much in the way of gameplay. The scenes were dragged on too slow to stretch the playtime while keeping the story too on-rails for a "choices matter" game, then ending in a flat, disappointing conclusion.

Don't get me started with the 60-dollar AAA price tag of this game. Horrendous for the type of game itself, and even worse for the quality of the gameplay/writing you're getting.

And given that the game can easily be completed in 2-3 sittings and almost the entire game takes place within a one-block radius, I encourage you to to wait until this game is cheaper before buying it (I admit to feeling personally gypped after paying full price for this).

Life is Strange games are as story-focused as video games can be, but this game's lack of a satisfying story is borderline tragic given the bar set by the previous games. I could literally tell you the entire story in a single sentence. I unfortunately saw the main plot twist coming from miles away and was not at all surprised, which makes me long for the days when the first Life is Strange masterfully fooled me until the very end and left me visibly shell-shocked at its conclusion. And the main revelation that Alex ultimately uncovers is rather underwhelming given that it's the basis for the game's entire mystery, and it's also a little contrived and not entirely believable on a practical level (really, no one else in this small town knew about this? + a bunch more obvious questions that I won't raise here due to spoilers). Compound this with the fact that the game is extremely short and, while pure length is not everything, many of these hours are not even very meaningful. For example, one chapter is almost entirely comprised of doing a live-action role play with a young boy, and while I love the idea of a LARP as much as the next person, in execution it felt akin to taking a mostly unenthusiastic boy trick-or-treating for an entire chapter. The LARP did not move the story forward even one inch, nor was it very emotionally impactful. There are only five chapters, and this is the entirety of one of them. Compare this to the prior two games, where each chapter packed the punch of a full-length movie and took you on such a plot-advancing journey that the game would have to provide a full-blown recap at the start of each chapter just to remind you of the sheer amount of things that happened in the last one. Add to this the fact that True Colors takes place almost entirely within a single neighborhood block and you just really don't feel like you're going on much of a journey at all, literally or figuratively. When True Colors ended my honest thought was, "...That's it?" It's an interesting story that's worth experiencing, but it's just a very brief and not very satisfying one.

To be fair, while the overall story is very brief and underwhelming, the emotional core rightfully lies in the characters themselves, and in that regard the game has plenty of heart. Alex is a fantastic character fully realized by a great actor, and the game admirably explores mental health, grief, anxiety, anger, and other deep questions. An easy-to-please person may find these attempts sufficient. It's just that these attempts are nowhere near as emotionally impactful as the first two games simply because the game does not provide a very meaningful journey from which to thrive. There are some exceptions; a segment exploring Alex's childhood was mostly well done (even if it came far too late in the story to matter), and her final confrontation with the main antagonist was masterful. Ryan and Steph are fantastic, helped by great actors and dialogue and graphics that are lightyears ahead of the prior games. None of these make up for the shortcomings above though, and the result is a game that is interesting, with plenty of heart, and is overall worth experiencing (at a lower price!), but is hugely disappointing by Life is Strange standards.

Even though there are choices to make in this game, they don't seem too different one from another. It's like picking between two apples - one is green and the other is red: at the end of the day, it's still an apple you choose. So when you've finished the game and you're looking at the charts of other players' decisions you kinda think to yourself: so that is all there was? I almost never felt it for the characters, even during their hardest times. I suppose I didn't have enough time and opportunity to get to know them better. Then, when playing particular parts of the game, it suddenly feels like the character is a naive 12 y.o. girl. But seriously, when making some decision, Alex is being way too naive and for some reason over-simplifies some important events and decisions. The superpower itself is very interesting and is worth exploring, but we don't particularly see any development on this throughout the whole game. Expand

A step up in quality in most aspects - except for where it really matters. It looks a lot more polished, but the tame story and Alex's "power" really doesn't make for a immersive experience. It all feels crammed towards the end. The big plot twist happened very shortly before the end of the game and made it feel a little abrupt when it ended. Also the relationships to other main characters were superficial and I didnt feel anything for them, unlike Chloe who I literally cried for in LiS 1.
Overall, I'd still recommend it, especially if you havent played Life is Strange 1 yet, after that game your standards will be considerably higher than before. If you can find it on sale get True Colors, but for the Triple A asking price of 60€ its pretty steep for a 10hr game.

In addition, the plot has a twist from detective story that seems boring, trivial and in some places even absurd, the same flaws that I had already seen in Twin Mirror, but here even more amplified.
The choices of the game appear uninspiring and not very incisive and it is not clear where they want to go.
The DLC "Wavelength" is even worse, with so boring and repetitive gameplay that I could not wait to finish it.

Not everything is to be thrown away of course, the soundtrack is excellent and fits very well in the context, especially because it is evident the meticulous search for songs that are "cool" and unknown at the same time.
I also liked the story of the friendship between Alex and Steph and its evolution, from the moment they meet for the first time until the epilogue of the game.
Also Alex is well characterized, even if I found her power to see other people's emotions uninteresting in the long run because she reveals too easily the plot aspects and leaves to the player little ability of deduction.

Unfortunately, there are hardly any decision-making options and if there are any, they have little effect, but that didn't bother me personally.

As usual in Life is Strange, you spend most of your time walking around, talking to other people and listening to monologues about things. The last one could have been shortened to a more bearable level for my taste. At least it gives you a bit more context sometimes.

If you don't like games like this, which focus very much on the story and offer hardly any gameplay, you won't be happy with True Colors. Otherwise, I can highly recommend the game because it was a wonderful gaming experience for me, which deals with difficult topics in an unobtrusive way and still leaves you with hope and a good feeling.

A couple of things that I didn't like was that the game was way to easy. I know it focusing on Story telling but still would have been nice if on the odd occasion something challenged you like QTEs (Quick time events) or some harder puzzles. A couple missions were kind of detective sort of thing but they were mostly self explanatory.
Another thing that was frustrating but not really an issue with the actual gameplay. For some reason when I 1st installed the game it kept crashing after completing chapter 1 and loading chapter 2. I tried verifying files (Xbox App) and that didn't fix the issue. When I reinstalled it was fine thou. Mite have been a corrupt file or something. It was saying something about a UE4 siren but no error code.
Another thing to note was that throughout the hole game I was getting random screen tearing during cutscenes. I tried messing about with video settings but nothing solved the problem. Apparently it is just an issue with the game. Its annoying thou cos the game has been out half a year and this should be fixed.

Overall the game is amazing and I really enjoyed it. If you enjoy slow pace story games then you should give it a go!

As a long-time fan of LiS, I was curious to see how Deck Nine would handle this installment, given their previous work on Before the Storm, which, while decent, was just a prequel with an existing storyline. However, True Colors presented a completely original tale from start to finish, and boy, did they deliver excellently.

The gameplay remains familiar, but with intriguing new features and gameplay elements tied to the protagonist's unique power, adding a fresh twist. The choices I made felt relevant, and I relished the various options I had throughout the game. The graphics are generally fantastic, but there was one gripe that broke my immersion - witnessing sudden changes in texture quality when new objects or scenes appeared. Additionally, there were occasional instances of unexpected FPS drops that lingered for entire scenes, albeit these were rare occurrences, happening maybe three or four times in the entire game. Despite these minor issues, I must commend the breathtaking scenery and the phenomenal OST. The soundtrack, in particular, was truly outstanding, capturing that classic LiS essence. The visuals might not reach the level of DontNod's previous works, but they were still stunning, and the facial animations were incredibly impressive, surpassing my expectations even after seeing them in the trailers. Can you believe it's still LiS?

Now, onto the heart of it - this game screams Life is Strange through and through. It radiates more LiS vibes than LiS 2 ever did, and Alex, the main character, is simply the cutest, most lovable character the series has seen so far. The supporting cast is equally well-crafted and captivating. While it may not have outdone the brilliance of the first LiS, I found myself emotionally invested in Alex's story right from the first chapter (now chapters instead of episodes). Her heartrending backstory evokes empathy early on, which is a definite plus. I did sense that Life is Strange and LiS 2 were more expansive in some ways - not just gameplay or story-wise, but in terms of the world they built. True Colors felt somewhat smaller in comparison, though I still adored the story and its universe and couldn't help but make some comparisons throughout my playthrough. There were moments where I felt the final episode could have been handled better, though it wasn't bad by any means; it just had room for improvement in certain aspects, in my opinion.

In conclusion, I absolutely loved Life is Strange: True Colors. It successfully encompassed everything that makes LiS special - it was great, melancholic, intense, and captivating all at once. It captured those emotional highs and lows I've come to associate with the series, leaving me thoroughly engrossed in the story. While I personally enjoyed it more than LiS 2, it still couldn't dethrone the original LiS from its throne (no comparison with BtS or Captain, as that wouldn't be fair). More LiS games, please! I can't get enough of this world, and I eagerly await any new installments that may come our way.

Amazing storytelling game. Please produce more games like this!! I only wish there was an options setting to make the interactive objects less noticable (i.e. make those white borders disappear) so that the world looks more natural and discovering those items would be more rewarding.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really love this game(more than the games before it) it's great but as you can see by the score its not perfect. Where do i start the beginning is very slow then it just starts feeling rushed. They could have made it a longer game just so some things made sense. The choices and how you treat people really makes no sense I hardly interacted with Pike but him and Steph were the only people who stood up for me at the end even though i was nice to and helped everyone. here was something relaxing about the whole game, I am a sucker for small American towns in movies and series, mix that with the state of Colorado and you get a beautiful setting. While I thought the plot twist was pretty lame and could be seen a mile away, I somehow liked the characters. I had some great evenings with this game and found some cool tracks through it on Youtube music. It… Expand

Life Is Strange: True Colors paints a pretty picture, creating a story you’ll really want to invest in, with only a slow plot point or two distracting from what is otherwise a great work of art.

True Colors is the most “alive” Life is Strange so far thanks to a technological leap, but it lacks spark and tries to compensate for it by referencing or imitating the original game.

With Dontnod, there’s always a small town and the death of a friend to get the story rolling. But this time around, characters, plot and setting are far more developed than in previous games. [Issue#255, p.62]
