What really falls in this game, is the extreme repetition. the game is based on clearing 10 waves, plus an 11th which is the final boss, using a team of 6 soldiers that uses (very well) different classes in order to wipe the monsters. And that's it: the game is extremely repetitive because, even though the classes are different and have 7 levels (they start from level 0). However, the levelling procedure is EXTREMELY slow and will take lots and lots of time in order to reach max level, especially when each class have their own way to level up (firebug= roast some monsters; Medic= heal tons of time; Support= weld a lot of doors). However, this game is really fun though, especially if you play with friends or have a clan to play with, especially because it's NOT an easy game (except low levels): it's a game that encourages team work and a lot of defensive maneuvers, which isn't very easy to do if your team is clueless on what to do, and the classes must be used wisely too (the sharpshooter, for instance, can almost one-shot most of the biggest enemies, while the firebug is a good crowd controller). It's a very repetitive and simple game, but that simplicity has a lot of deep into it. Give it a try, I really recommend to give it a look if you're looking for a different team based shooter. Expand

Killing floor seems to be a game that people will either love or hate. They might love it for the simple and gory action that never lets up. I want to address some of the things people have been condemning this game over. First is the graphics. In a nut shell: I don't see what people are whining over. The game looks fine enough and does a good job of achieving the atmosphere it seeks to create. Next is the repetitive gameplay. I don't understand why people are hating the game for this reason. I keep hearing it being compared to left 4 dead and in my opinion it's just as repetitive as killing floor. I guess it's because they it's 1.a valve game, and 2. they wave around their AI director like a victory flag. Killing floor also has persistent progression with perks that level up as you complete their requirements, and a large arsenal of weapons that is far more varied than left 4 dead's. Other people have criticized the AI. What do you expect from drooling mutants in killing frenzies? They do their job and nothing less. Of course this is all rendered stupid form the start considering that the game costs twenty bucks. For this along with the free updates sure to come I don't see why this isn't a good dead and at the same time I don't see how anybody could expects more. I don't hate left 4 dead but comparing it to killing floor just because they both have co-op and zombies is unfair. If you like quick and gory good fun and have friends to play with then I recommend killing floor. Expand

I'll keep it short and sweet...
Cons: Linear gameplay, no direction (you just kill monsters), highly repetitive.
Pros: Despite the gameplay being linear; this IS my most favorite 'zombie' shoot 'em up on the market. With a game this fun (especially with friends) you don't need a reason/story to be doing it, all I'm thinking about is the next round. And for it being highly repetitive,

And for it being highly repetitive, it's a lot better than what I've experienced with World at War and Black Ops "Nazi Zombies". In a 3 way (between Treyarch's Call of Duty Zombies, Left 4 Dead, and Killing Floor); despite KF not being a true blue zombie game, this is the best, most underrated, and overlooked.

Quite a fantastic coop game. This game shines with online multiplayer. An addicting fast paced teamwork intensive game. Well supported by the developers who are still fixing and extending the game. The critic reviews are rather sadly out of date since this game has seen massive (positive) changes since it's release.

That's what makes this game better than L4D series: YOU can design a map, and easily have the world playing it. (or you can just stick to playing other people's maps, there are plenty to go around). There are many pluses, including a hoard of achievements some of which are nearly impossible to get, and the fact that Tripwire keeps making free updates (like changing monsters' looks for christmas or summer) and adds new maps to the official collection. But of course, graphics are not top of the line, sure, and some animations are choppy, and it's not really that "adventurous" - most maps are won by sitting in a corner, dumbly shooting in front of you. But, it is what you make of it, i guess. Expand

The gameplay is for the most part mindless as hordes of zombies just run straight at you. The default maps are fairly small and bland. The perk system is just a useless tool to make you keep playing longer, but has very little effect on the game besides just making killing things easier. I must say I bought this game on sale and yet I am still disappointed. Don't be fooled by these perfect 10 ratings, this game is far from perfect. After a few hours you have pretty much seen all it has to offer. After 3 hours I am tired of the game and will probably never play it again. But now, the game has gone from one of my favorite horde shooters to one of my #1 examples of how pay-to-win is killing this industry. A little under a year ago, a weapon DLC was added to the game, adding 4 blatantly overpowered weapons, such as a ranged weapon for a previously melee-only class and a scythe with greater reach than any melee weapon in the game. This was added under the guise of "supporting the modders who made them", despite the fact that said modders had been perfectly contempt with releasing their previous weapon mods for free prior to being bought out by Tripwire. Yesterday marked the release of a second weapon DLC, and the weapons are as overpowered as ever. If you're alright with being at an objective disadvantage to the players who forked out an extra $10, then go ahead, buy this game, as you'll probably enjoy it. But if you can't stand watching game-after-game fall to awful practices like this, then send the devs a message through sales figures, and don't buy Killing Floor, and hopefully we may see improvement in the future. There is no story or anything of that sort, but the gameplay definitely makes up for it. It involves you fighting off waves of zombie-like creatures together with teammates, then buying better guns and fighting even tougher creatures. The enemy creatures that you face are very intriguing. Each one has its own means of attacking you and its own backstory. There is also a very impressive selection of guns that you get to use to fight the creatures off. The players also get to choose their class. The class system is great, because it allows teammates to specialise, what means that teamwork is encouraged greatly. It's quite flexible still as you are not limited to certain weapons with each class. It's just that you get different bonuses. And then there are some minor RPG elements present. You get to level up each class and get better at certain types of weapons depending on your style of play. At first when I visited the in game weapon shop I thought there were a lot of choices but once I started using more guns, I realized I didn't like some of them and that I'd often stick to one or two certain guns depending on my class. I also thought at some point even more weapons would be available in the shop but I couldn't have been more wrong and it all just resorts in using the same guns all the time, playing the same mode, killing the same zombies, over and over again. There are also classes but this doesn't really help the game much and there aren't really any worthwhile perks to them except for spawning with armor or maybe a gun but other than that, leveling up perks just increases the amount of damage you do overall. So the lack of game modes (I'll remind you there is only one), repetition and lack of any real depth is what kills an otherwise somewhat enjoyable game. Expand

This game features only one mode, which gets repetitive after you have played it several times, the AI nothing special, its all scripted. the weaponry seems to be the most developed section, yet you need to buy your weapons from a vendor, the vendor is a female women with quite a repetitive stereotypical english accent with poor dialogue that gets annoying the first time you hear it. the graphics are sub-par , but from a mod why would you expect more? i'l tell you why; because this Mod makes you pay for it, and it is certiantly not worth it. Killingfloor should essentially be free, or it should drastically improve. its no Garrry's Mod, its no Team fortress ( which was orignally a mod ) I cant understand the fuss being generated over this mediocre peice of work. First, let's talk about the things to love: I loved being able to level up a character, pick a class appropriate for the team/level and have at the zombies. It was even more fun when they launched the "Christmas Patch" and I got to kill Nut Crackers, Santa and Pippi-Longstocking-in-a-Gas-Mask instead of the same old mangled zombie with radiation burns that we see in every game. Here's the bad news: the level design such that on the harder difficulties you had to be planted in the exact same spot where you were forced to camp and wait to kill the enemy with your back to a locked door or else you'd simply be overwhelmed. A normal coop game would take upward of an hour, and when you finally got to the big boss, he'd kill you in one shot before you even knew he was there...a little bit frustrating. The voice acting was distractingly terrible, and the character classes could have used a bit more balancing. When it is all said and done, the game has some elements that really make the game worth playing (for a little while), but ultimately needs to have some type of objectives (other than simple survival). A blend of L4D and Killing Floor would have tremendous potential and I'm hoping L4D3 goes in that direction! Expand

People love this game. Some people don't as much. To me, the combat is very stale, and the game is very repetitive. The mod support is nice, but there hasn't been very many high profile mods for it at all, and although the game recieves content updates , the gameplay isn't my cup of tea.

This game never gets boring because of the multiply perks given to you in the game and the determination to level up said perks makes this game all the more fun I highly recommend this game to everyone. this game is highly underrated and should be given more credit were its do.

Here is my honest review of Killing floor. If you don't like it then I'm sorry you better look at a different reviewer. A lot of hardcore fans will probably hate me or flame me for this but I have to put out my honest thoughts.

    - Gameplay = The gun play is strong and does its job well. Sure it might not be as flexible as L4D's more fast-pace style and gun bunting ability. BUT this game has its own fun mechanic which is "ZED Time." When you blow off a head of a specimen(The Enemy) you have chance of slowing down time which is very handy most of the time. You can pick off multiple enemies at once or kill that one pesky and annoying specimen out in the distance. It is a great way to make you feel like a strong badass especially if you use guns like the revolver or lever-action rifle. The two problems are on hard or lower difficulties it makes it really easy and reloading during ZED Time takes forever to reload making it drag to wait it out. The guns were nice but the lack of guns were a problem with its dated physics, although this is an old game so I can forgive this(Used to be a mod too). The gameplay can get tedious, be warned there is only horde mode for this game. There is Objective but not a lot of people play it and it isn't that good(The lack of ammo crates was the biggest problem). The perks are important in making your teammates live for another round. Some Perks need a lot of balancing especially when you get to a higher levels. But the perks take way too long raise and feels like a cheap ploy to increase replay value which it is. It should have been more levels and spread out perk benefits rather than packing them all together. Oh! and the Enemy A.I is pretty terrible but they are different deadly. You should play on smaller maps because it gets more intense and fun this way. But if you play on maps that a big such as Farm or Mountain Pass, you could tell the A.I and pathfinder is terrible. All they do is charge towards with little to no strategy. Some might charge behind you but that's because they spawned behind you or teleported behind you. Don't get me wrong, it is soo satisfying to blow off their heads, a true stress reliever. I wished there was more darker maps with new throwable items such as flash bangs to stun enemies and flares to temporarily lit up areas. The flashlights don't have much use even though the game has good dynamic lighting. 7/10 (Sure it is an old game but they sometimes update it so a lot of these problems could be fixed by patches or PROPER DLC).

What the hell... metacritic is cutting my review in half. I apologize to you guys, I wish I can write more but this dumb website keeps cutting my review in half even though my review is only 4900 words. I put a lot of work in my reviews so I'll start writing less on my reviews here. As much as I want to put in every detail.

Killing Floor is undeniably a fantastic title, with 40 co-op to 6 co-op, and difficulty levels to entertain according to skill improvement. A nice class system and satisfying impacts with shots, Killing Floor is the best arcade co-op to exist fun, crazy and broad.

Pros: - Perk system lets you level up for bonuses for weapons you use more often. - Large assortment of play-styles(from perks specializing in melee range chainsaw action to long range bolt launchers) - The SDK means that there is a large door open for mod/map development. - Many different enemies ranging from mindless Clots to Fleshpounders that look like they where designed by a soviet zombie program. - Co-op play online with ZED-time for slow motion headshots Cons: -ZED-time can be annoying depending on what weapon you are using(namely ones that have to reload on every shot) -Graphics are average, but more then passible Final Verict: Definitely worth the $15-20 you'll spend on it. CO-OP play makes this game what it is, solo is fairly monotonous, but as soon as you get 2-3 people it starts becoming a blast. Expand

Comparing such a masterpiece to a senseless, baseless game such as L4D does it no justice. The free updates, such as the recent weapons and map packs, are beyond the grasp of most L4D gamers. Since it's free, everyone is able to enjoy it. There is no bias such as what L4D brings to the field. Most importantly, the critics have gotten it wrong... again! Graphically inclined, most critics believe gameplay is only as important as characters dialog and define a game on how "awesome the graphics are" and judge the book by its cover. However, Killing Floor (KF) is running on an old engine, which is modable (the game is a lot more exciting when you are able to fiddle around with weapons and maps). Another bit that excites it the number of characters. $1.99 for a DLC Character pack? Come on, it's a bloody bargain. Last thing anyone needs nowadays is an update costing $49.99 to have fun. A lot of people have pointed this out, and so will I -- guns make smiley faces. All in all, this game rates as 'epic' on the 'Epic Scale' for it's mods, gameplay and pure attention to detail. Expand

Each Class has there own set of multiple weapons to choose from. You have a weight limit, and your movement speed is dependent on how much weight you are carrying. Also, there's ZED time. Basically "bullet time" it's activated when you or someone else in the map does something "impressive" like a major crit or killing multiple specimens with one shot etc. Everyone on the map goes into ZED time and your reaction time is improved for a very short time, in which you have the opportunity to line up perhaps a couple head shots. There are a couple classes that even have the ability to extend the ZED time once it's activiated, depending on whether or not the circumstances are right. I played L4D when it first came out...for quite a whiiiiiile...I got my Zoey up to lvl...er...honestly, L4D is great. It's just like most other shooters tho. One thing i love about Killing Floor is that there are no crosshairs. If you choose not to use the iron sights then you'll really be firing from the hip, and you'll have to learn where you're aiming, kuz sometimes you don't have the luxury of using the iron sights. But the learning curve is nothin. If you've played games like Crysis and Far Cry 2 on the hardest difficulty you'll fit right in. Be prepared to really work together tho, the Devs did a great job of balancing everything. You'll be able to tell when you stop playing on normal and hard modes and get yourself lvled up to 4 or higher and start playing on the suicidal mode...talk about adrenaline! Expand

  1. Killing Floor is a zombie game that lacks brain and own ideas. In the main part it's simply a Left 4 Dead clone with boring maps and graphics. But Killing Floor's emphasis on tactical gameplay, the solid coop mode and the cheap prize make the game worth a look.
  2. Tripwire Interactives Killing Floor is what you would expect of a polished mod, but doesn't exceed expectations as a retail game. It's good, but unfortunately far from perfect. A nice addition to the survival-horror genre though, and it has an attractively cheap price tag.
