Old style adventure game. excellent story, great gameplay, good characters. Only I wish the graphics were better. If you enjoy 3rd person point and click adventure games this is a must get!

This is one of the best point-and-click adventure games I have ever played.

    - There are some highly original puzzles, and with a single exception I found them all logical and enjoyable.
    - Voice acting is top-notch.
    - Inventory / clue collecting system is very well implemented.
    - Characters are interesting and memorable, and especially the main character has exceptional depth.
    - Graphics are very good (for this genre).
    - I very much enjoyed the Lynchesque mood of this game. Your mileage may vary.

    Neutral:
    - Sound effects are not spectacular, but help build the athmosphere just fine.
    - Music is a bit bland, but does in no way ruin the experience.

    Bad:
    - Nothing. All aspects of this game are at least solid, and some are exquisite.

If you like this genre, or mysteries in general (and are not put off by a bit darker themes), do get this one.

Do not get disenchanted by the game's poor User Score. Kathy Rain is a really good point'n'click adventure game with good writing, interesting characters and strong voice acting. One thing I was afraid of when I started playing is that the main character seemed like a product of a Mary Sue syndrome. She is a strong, college girl, a biker, a smart mouth and, of course, pretty. But the creator is a dude, so the theory doesn't stick. At least the character is consequential in her actions throughout the game.

I wrote earlier that the game doesn't have stellar graphics and I stand by it. It doesn't change the fact, though, that Kathy Rain boasts some of the best pixel art in the last several years. Same goes for the sound. Voice acting is quite good and seems very well implemented for an indie game.

All in all Kathy Rain is a recommendable title. Surely not the best adventure game ever, but definitely one of the few pearls in the last half-a-decade. With a low asking price it's a treat for any adventure gamer out there.

Kathy Rain is a fantastic mystery adventure that is a necessary addition to the library of any serious fan of the point-and-click genre. It's also a great starting point for anyone new to the genre and an excellent piece of horror-fiction in its own right.

It came as no surprise to me the fact Kathy Rain got such low ratings on Metacritic, and I´m not only refering to the user´s critics. Wow, this game is REALLY good. Very creative RPG and Adventure point and click. The 20something girl, Kathy Rain is a quirky, 90's deadpan chick and the characters in the game are realistic and very well done. Excellent, very creative and fun.

interface is terrible..............very unpractical.the classic scumm verbs would have been better than this click to select, click again to decide the action, which often causes the character to do unwanted(slow)actions.....it's also very slow both in storytelling and movement/actions,and this gets boring quite fast. shame ,because the game seems not bad at all.....classic point and clickinterface is terrible..............very unpractical.the classic scumm verbs would have been better than this click to select, click again to decide the action, which often causes the character to do unwanted(slow)actions.....it's also very slow both in storytelling and movement/actions,and this gets boring quite fast. shame ,because the game seems not bad at all.....classic point and click adventure, decent graphics and puzzles. I bought this expecting another Gabriel Knight, but this is a disappointment. There are very little puzzles in it, the story is quite short and the ending clearly makes it like a first episode and not a full length game. Also I'm getting sick of low res graphics... Makes it hard to distinguish things.

    Pixellated puzzler.

Surreal little indie adventure with occasionally unintuitive puzzles. The story is moderately interesting but it loses its way somewhat towards the end. Recommended, but with reservations.

Indeed I don't like pixel art, but I loved this game despite that. After giving it quite some thought I discovered that characters, voice acting and puzzles are the only things that are game breaking for me when not done right. But of these were top notch!

Kathy Rain is a very likeable, very real and very human character. She develops over the course of the game and her voice actor is perfectly cast for the role. All the other characters aren't as fleshed out, but all are voiced well too.

The story was well written and paced and definitely had some "Gabriel Knight vibes" going on. It is a very mature story too which can get pretty dark, but thankfully they didn't forget to add in some humor as well.

While some were too simple, I found the majority of the puzzles to be just the right amount of difficulty to give you that good feeling of accomplishment without ever becoming a frustrating "how was I supposed to know that" affair. All the puzzles are logical, none require you to combine weird objects in silly ways and there's a good amount of variety too. I also loved that the game doesn't allow you to pick up stuff that you have no idea why you would need.

I would have wished that this game had higher resolution graphics but I understand why this isn't the case. They still managed to create atmospheric looking locations that very much helped draw me into the story. The music was entirely forgettable, but this is not something I personally find all that important. It also would have been nice if we saw some more animations and lips actually moving when characters talked, but I understand corners need to be cut with a limited budget.

All in all I had great fun with this and I seriously hope there will be a sequel - or even a whole series - because I'd love to see more of Miss Katherine Rain!

Kathy Rain is a fun 2D point and click mystery. The story is excellent, and has great characters. My only concern is that the ending was a bit confusing. After beating the game, I'm not exactly sure what to call the protagonist.

Mediocrity in every way. The developers of Kathy Rain should have realized early on that they are unable to create a work of art with interesting supernatural elements and human emotions.

It's not necessary to go to LucasArts or Sierra for a bit of nostalgia. Kathy Rain is a great modern classic point-and-click adventure that fits perfectly in line with Blackwell, Gemini Rue and Shardlight.
