Locking everything behind a grind wall is something I can't understand. Not everyone has the time to grind away 30+ hour's at challenge mode when at any point a storm cam destroy all your progress is soul destroying.

But it's buggy, frustrating and unfinished to the point where I've given up on it completely. I spent hundreds of hours on the first game across both PC and PS4, completing every island and beating challenge mode on Jurassic difficulty. I'm a massive fan of the franchise and a total dino geek so JWE2 really had to work hard to turn me off.

Every aspect of park management which used to be relatively straight forward has been replaced with an unnecessarily frustrating and unbalanced system. Emergency generators which now power your park cost over FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS to refill the tank. Yip, the guts of half a million dollars to fill just ONE fuel tank out of x amount you own to keep your park running. When something beyond your control like a storm hits you'll be smarting from lost revenue and repair costs. You could already be in the red so if your generators run out of fuel as well then you're totally screwed as refuels are prohibitively expensive.

After doing about five tasks your scientists will become dangerously overworked and require a two and a half minute lunch break. It might not sound like a big deal but it costs you SEVENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS to give one scientist two and a half minutes break and that's ON TOP of their existing wages... What?!?! Who at Frontier Studios green-lit this? It's utterly ridiculous! Hatching dinosaurs is an expensive lottery now as well. You create a batch of eggs and cross your fingers that they won't be an entire nest of duds. I had to throw batch after batch of raptor eggs in the trash which I'd spent time, money and manpower creating while my park (which I couldn't open without the dinos) was rapidly bleeding cash. When I eventually hatched two raptors with no negative traits one murdered the other and then smashed out of its enclosure in seconds. It went on a murderous killing spree because it felt lonely while my capture helicopter impotently fired one missed tranquiliser dart after another even when the dino was stationary. It was all just a MASSIVE waste of time and resources which was utterly un-enjoyable. Having to keep supplying food and fuel to rangers and doctors is another unnecessary time sink that gets real old real quick. Nothing is priced reasonably or believably so the gameplay ends up feeling cheap and unbalanced.

The main game campaign is actually an insult. It starts off with some promise but soon gives up trying to impress and turns into a pointless yawn fest. Nothing that anybody says or does is remotely relevant to anything resembling a plot, it's just terribly written and disjointed dialogue masquerading as a story. On the pterosaur mission two of my dimorphodons and a pteranodon were stuck in mid-air flapping their wings on the spot as they slowly starved to death. On another level I was in a ranger jeep desperately trying to put my park straight when the vehicle flipped onto its front bumper and span like a top unable to drive. It's an unfinished buggy mess.

I pre-ordered this game and desperately wanted to like it but it's GENUINELY bad. You're not allowed to just get on with playing it and enjoy the experience; you're constantly being hit with roadblocks. They exist to pointlessly waste your time, needlessly drain your park funds and just outright frustrate the hell out of you. Jurassic World Evolution 2 is a massive disappointment that has made me a VERY grumpy dino fan.

    I'm giving it a 4/10 - 'Below Average'

There are challenge levels but they don't provide any kind of structure really. And there are "Replay scenes from the movies!" sections, but they are overly structured! It's as if they didn't test this game with any kind of focus group or anything to make sure it was properly game-y. That there were actually things to do or compelling reasons to play. Don't buy this game if you are a fan of the original. Go re-play the original on game pass. Trust me. Spent about 10 minutes just sitting at the main menu in disbelief when it said the campaign was 100% complete. Truly heartbreaking.

Ultimately this is a hard review to make. As I have been very excited for this game it truly does feel rushed and underwhelming. It feels more like a giant dlc expansion for the first game and very much does not have all the components if a traditional Frontier Dev game.

    Campaigns:
The campaign is one large tutorial that cam be completed in under 2 hours. You could finish the "campaign" and return it under steam requirements. There are sub campaigns that cover all 5 previous movies that are made to clearly compensate the main campaign and they are ALSO larger tutorials.

    Sandbox/Challenges:
Ultimately the game aims to push you towards the challenges mode and sandbox...all of wish have to be unlocked through game play. While these modes are fun to work up to they are not what the game was functionally built to provide. The first game was one huge lengthy campaign that made you feel like you were building up the the last island. This game gives tons of separate unconnected scenarios that essentially start you from scratch without the satisfaction of the previous installment.

    Mechanics:
This is by far the best rework of their original game. If they essentially released JWE1 with the mechanics of JWE2, they would have the perfect dino park builder of all time. The reworks are smooth and give a good satisfaction when building your park. This does not however make the game feel great all the time as it does have dozens of mechanics that when put together can easily overwhelm the player and make it all somewhat clunky.

Overall: This game has immense potential but it feels like the developers were afraid to go too far and be too ambitious prior to the release of Jurassic World Dominion. It's as if Universal didn't want them to reveal the movies intentions so they simply made it a sandbox experience instead of providing the great quality that they aspired to give to their gamers. The game is enjoyable but clearly lacks the spirit of its predecessor and needs some more work from the developers before it is the game it deserves to be. If at some point there is more feeling put into the game then this review may be liable to change back to a positive rating.

Quick summary: if you loved jwe1 you'll be frustrated. If you didn't there is nothing for you here.

As a huge J Park fan and fan of park games I loved the deeply flawed first game and was disappointed the devs chose to make bad dlc and never fix the many launch day issues which reviews pick up on. As a community we worked very closely with the devs over the last 3 years to ensure they understood what was wrong with the first game. Im sorry to say they have not listened at all or they pretended to. JWE2 is
a game of things which should have been included last launch and problems fixed in the first year but with added grind.

As a huge fan and franchise vegeran I can say that these 10/10 reviews and promises that a perfect game has been perfected are either fake or delusional as this game is a mess.

I really wanted to like this game but it's deeply flawed to the point of broken from a gameplay stand point and all too often a technical one.

1). the campaign is a poorly made 3hr tutorial (barely a story) which gives you simple tasks and then abruptly ends. But you'll need to finish it to unlock in the actual mode you want to play e.g. sandbox. 2). Pointless reputation. Pointless repetition ;) You will be forced to do the same thing again and again as the game pads out it's play time so the devs could lie it was a 20 plus hr game. The game will have you endlessly fixing the most simple thing and micro managing every decision with little automation. They added these scientists who are just brain dead busy work and need every tasks done for them. And everything now breaks every few minutes. It's crazy.

3). New additions like the water lagoon / avary / baby dino area are a joke. Don't expect actual water physics as the dinosaur just floats in air but you can't enter the water (try driving in it and it's like tarmac lol) and the dino won't interact outside of it. The level of customisation is almost non existence and overall very poor. I wish they would let modders help them and customise this game in ways we actually want. The avary is just a sad empty space inside and you can't build rocks or trees for dino birds. And same is true for hatchings. Its all extremely limited and not remotely like planet zoo or coaster. It's more like a cash grab recycled game without the core complaints addressed.

4). The entire game is more like medium size dlc. It's very much like the first one and not remotely like a fleshed out sequel. Almost copy and paste at times but with added grind. Honestly the game feels and plays like a mobile game as if it's been ported over. Same graphics engine but with more issues. Also The game feels like it exists simply to promote the new film but not in a positive way. You're given the basics of the plot but no details and no conclusion. And don't expect any camp creatatuous cross over.

5). On pc it has many game breaking bugs and many small visual glitches and you'll need a decent pc to run on high settings. Still no multiplayer as we had hoped for or anything like an invasion or play other people's parks etc. The new modes like chaos are missed opportunities and again the game fails to even explain it self. But it adds layers of additional complexity which make it more time consuming but not fun. It's boring in a way the first one was not.

6). The music and sound and graphics are mostly good. The voice work is fine and has a few expensive film stars. All the stuff you've All ready seen is still here. There are a few new additions but they're more after thoughts for marketing than game changers. But the ai is shockingly poor and the dinosaurs do not feel alive like planet zoo and the visitors are generic clones.

Summary: Honestly I don't know what such respected competent devs were thinking beyond making cash as the game is very expensive and not a true sequel and not worth it's asking cost. It feels like content has been removed and is going to be sold back to us as well. And that was a real problem with the first game dlc. For this price with this little content it should all be free.

I can not recommend this game in it's current state and I'm deeply saddened by the devs duplicity and overall lack of low effort when you compare this to their other amazing products. Do not believe the gushing reviews and if possible play for yourself. But be aware after the refund period the game quality drops off significantly which I'm guessing isn't an coincidence.

There are better dino sim games coming out but this is not one of them. Buy on a deep sale or play the first one.

The sound and music is good. The graphics are last gen and identical to the 3 year old game but with added glitches though they look ok on a decent pc.

There are a few new modes and new dinosaurs and some new buildings but none of it is great or it feels like unpolished and poorly implemented dlc.

Jwe2 is more like how jwe1 should have been but its actually a sequel but more like the same game being sold twice. And so overall it feels a little like a scam.

There is no multiplayer which is a real shame as sharing parks or coop would be so fun. The game puts fun last for no good reason and choses to pad out with grind.

Id be more forgiving if it was any other developer but this is the mighty frontier who made the amazing planet coaster and zoo. So they know how to make a great game. Jwe1 gameplay is better in some ways so this is why jurassic world evolution 2 gets a 4/10.
Its not a bad game but its not good enough or worth the insane price tag.

I love dinos and i love Jurassic park and i love frontiere but i dont love this game. Very disappointed.

It’s like they took all of the worst aspects of the first game and repackaged it with a handful of new dinosaurs and even more stressful scenarios. It’s still the same tedious, repetitive multitasking that you experienced in the first JWE, only worse because the core mission of trying to create a successful theme park is gone. JWE2 tries so hard to appeal to people’s nostalgia for the movies that it’s like they forgot they were making a park-builder game. By centering it around the events after Fallen Kingdom, the devs backed themselves into a corner without many options — and apparently the inability to come up with a story of their own. They’re clearly planning on releasing a DLC when Dominion comes out. Perhaps that’s why this game feels incomplete? It’s going to leave many fans of the original game like myself feeling really disappointed. JWE2 is more of the same jumping through an endless series of hoops trying to put out fires, except now you have to tell your scientists when it’s time to go to bed (I’m not kidding) — otherwise they’ll work themselves to the point of insanity and end up sabotaging your park. Who doesn’t get a little homicidal after a long work day? Totally normal. I’d hoped this game would take a much deeper dive into new features for decorating & customizing your park and its exhibits. Instead, they’ve completely removed the option to plant individual decorations like trees & rocks in your exhibits — which was arguably one of the best additions to the original game. And here I was hoping we’d be able to include waterfalls & rivers in the enclosures. HA! Instead, you’re given you the option to customize the appearance of gift shops & restaurants with the exciting new feature of adding tables! Doesn’t that sound fun??

It’s like Frontier ignored all of the ways they could have made the park-building experience better and instead focused all of their attention on ways to make it a more stress-filled, tedious experience. Because that’s why people love Jurassic Park, right? The campaign is effectively a 3-hour tutorial that feels like it’s about to get interesting, only to tell you that you’re done. What was the point of even calling it a campaign? Chaos Theory is a nice addition to the original formula, but that’s the problem. Chaos Theory pretty much serves as the meat of the game outside of Challenge Mode — which is just as annoying as it was in the first game. The “sandbox” forces you to jump through the same repetitive hoops in the other game modes before you can unlock everything and enjoy it. Except now you have to consult a scientist for every little decision. And if the scientist is incompetent (and they are) and doesn’t know how to build an aquarium, we’ll that’s too bad! What was the point of even having a sandbox mode of you’re going to lock it behind the same dull tedium as the rest of the game? It’s like player enjoyment wasn’t even a consideration for the developers. Jurassic World Evolution 2 is not a sequel worth $60. I’d go so far as to call it an unfinished DLC worth half of that price. If you’re dying to get it, do yourself a favor and wait until it’s on sale.

If this is the quality Frontier is going to bring to these games I really hope they DON'T make a JWE 3.

I am unbelievably disappointed. I was a huge fan of the first Jurassic World Evolution, currently have 7 days and 8 hours total game time. It felt like a real game, the first game's campaign took me 2 to 3 weeks to complete and I replayed it 3 times I enjoyed it so much. This game though, campaign completed in 4 hours, only 2 days. It felt like a glorified tutorial. Chaos mode is complete grind and feels like a cheap cop out on making a real story. I feel absolutely screwed by Frontier that they sold a game that couldn't even match the value of the first installment. Do NOT pay $60 for this. IT IS NOT WORTH IT.

    UPDATE 11/15/2021:
Frontier pushed out a patch to address GPU related issues and crashing. Although I am not experiencing crashing, my games performance has taken a serious hit. Literally cut my fps in half, getting a 30 fps experience with a 2070 super. Awesome thanks.

I can not recommend this game to anyone.

1st: The "campaign" is really just a half-baked tutorial system that is only in place to tell the player the bare minimum of the game. This is obviously worse than the first one on many levels. In the first game, it teaches you the basics and as you progress and become more successful it teaches you more mechanics and opportunities for upgrades.

2nd: This game is basically a micromanagement and waiting around simulation game. It has you constantly babysitting the scientist with deciding when is a good time for them to take a break. The game asks you to hold on to your money if a storm breaks out because there is no way to prevent damage to most structures. The only redeeming part about this point is they gave the player a speed-up option, but it can potentially hurt the player if they don't have the foresight to prepare for any and all structures to break during the storms.

3rd: The game rides on the success of the Jurassic franchise as a whole. Frontier decides to go with potentially good ideas and to do them halfway. Basically insulting anyone and everyone who would buy this bug-filled hellfire of a game.

In closing, it baffles me how most people seem to enjoy this game. I understand that it tries to give the player more of a challenge than the last one, but it feels less rewarding to have to literally start all over after every level even though they already have a challenge mode (that is meant for you to speedrun through) for that sort of difficulty or "challenge". The game does nothing but insults your intelligence and asks you to sit around and watch dinosaurs try to wipe out each other and the humans that try to watch.

The second incarnation of the Jurassic World Evolution series is undoubtedly a clear step up from its predecessor. The end result is a revised and corrected version of a formula that overall continues to work quite well and that we think will satisfy fans of the saga quite a bit. The game is elaborate but not particularly demanding, and it could certainly represent a more than satisfying pastime, as long as you overlook some small defects that afflict its playful structure.
