I would highly recommend this to anyone who is still or was a fan of games like this growing up. I may not have grown up playing System Shock or Doom, but I can tell that HYPERVIOLENT does a fantastic job at emulating them, giving even gamers like me a strong feeling of nostalgia and simpler times. Maybe sometimes all you need is a good story, easy mechanics and a bunch of enemies to mow through.

After spending a few hours with Hyperviolent, it's easy to see how its strengths will help set it apart in the boomer shooter market, with many of its best aspects coming from how it forgoes the traditional design of the genre. There are some problems that stop it from feeling like a consistently enjoyable experience, but the developers have laid a great foundation to build upon with some tweaks and alterations throughout early access. [Early Access Score = 70]

I don’t mean to be down on a smaller dev who has made a competent enough indie shooter, but I feel this genre is at a point where if a new entry isn’t doing something unique, then it needs to stand out some other way, and Hyperviolent just doesn’t. If you’re after a few hours spent mashing demon brains and roaming around looking for keys and matching doors, then Hyperviolent has you covered. If you’re after something fresh and new, maybe not so much. [Early Access Review]

The early access version of HYPERVIOLENT was a delight to tear through. The game offers all the blood and guts that you could want from an old-school, sci-fi shooter, with a surprisingly rich story and a wide variety of enemies to smash to pieces with steel pipes. Fans of DOOM, Quake, and System Shock will get a kick out of it.
