We all have to put out there for this studio to know: This game is so **** good! The love and hard work that I am seeing is mindblowing! I literally lost myself exploring the castle, didn't know where I was, from where I came, but was a feeling of lost that I didn't experienced with a game for like 5 years. Avalanche, you deserve all the love from a gamer, you really beat the hype, the controversy, the experience to make a game of this magnitude. Congratulations and thank you for this game!

It's so much fun, it feels like you're really at Hogwarts. And the graphics are amazing. I've played 11 hours in two workdays lol. Some performance bugs right now but they'll probably be fixed soon.

The world is beautifully designed and every detail has been meticulously crafted. The game's environments are stunning and the character models are highly detailed and realistic.

Another fantastic aspect of Hogwarts Legacy is the variety of riddles and puzzles that players will encounter throughout the game. These puzzles are challenging enough to keep players engaged, but not so difficult that they become frustrating. The puzzles are integrated seamlessly into the game's story, which makes them feel like a natural part of the experience and I had a lot of fun with them.

Phineas Black could have had more story development, though and I hope they'll add more story about him in a future patch maybe? However, this does not detract from the overall quality of the game. There are many other characters to interact with and the story is still highly enjoyable.

I highly recommend Hogwarts Legacy. 9/10

Plot is so childish and bland it's not even funny. Game offers you many choices but they almost never matter. You can't choose between "good" and "bad" sides, although there are Curses and Dark Arts in the game... lol, yeah you can even use Avada Kedavra as a 15yo student. But you are still getting pipelined by a plot. Even House choice doesn't matter, there's no rivalry between houses, no intrigues, nothing.

It has an open world, yet it's too generic and empty, no variety of enemies is present, it's more like Ubisoft games-styled grinding for a sake of grinding. And some quests are level locked so the game forces you to grind stuff at some point.

Combat is okay, but not like "hard" or anything, it's basically LMB spam, abilities spam (with CD being the only limit, no mana in game) and dodge/block spam with laughable CD and no stamina being present in game either!

NPC are more like furniture, you can't interact with them, hit them, or get punished for anything. Feels unnatural and ruins the immersion. Side quests they give you is the most generic "go there, fetch this, kill 15 wolves" stuff you'd imagine.

If you are a very casual gamer, and/or die-hard HP universe fan, then you'll enjoy this game for sure. Otherwise try Bully Scholarship Edition, it's light years ahead "schoolboy sim" game compared to HL.

First and foremost, the graphics in Hogwarts Legacy are simply stunning. The love for detail in the environments, characters, and creatures of the wizarding world is impressive and adds to the immersive experience of playing the game. The world of Hogwarts is truly brought to life in this game, and I found myself constantly marveling at the beauty of the game's design.

The world of Hogwarts is truly brought to life in this game, and I found myself constantly marveling at the beauty of the game's design.

The immersive world of Hogwarts Legacy is another one of the game's greatest strengths. The side quests and characters throughout the game add depth and complexity to the story and provide a sense of exploration and discovery that keeps the player engaged. The main story is also well-written and intriguing, with twists and turns that keep the player invested in the outcome.

However, there are a few areas where Hogwarts Legacy could improve. For example, simple things like the lack of a sitting animation and limited mount options can be a bit disappointing. Simple additions like these would greatly enhance the immersion of the game and make the player feel more connected to the world of Hogwarts. Additionally, the game currently has some performance issues that need to be addressed to ensure a smooth playing experience.

Finally, while Hogwarts Legacy is a highly anticipated game, it is disappointing that it will only be available on newer hardware at release. This limits the accessibility of the game to many fans of the wizarding world who may not have access to the latest gaming technology. It is important for developers to work on making their games accessible to a wider audience, and I hope that Hogwarts Legacy will become available on more platforms in the future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Rating of the game: 5 with a huge minus / 10. - Absolute mediocrity in everything. From the beginning to the end of the whole game you will be told how good you are "just like that" and even after passing the game you do not know anything about your character. You will communicate with "incredible" lifeless plush characters.

    - The main villain of the game is a goblin who took offense for being called names. And he decided to kill everyone for it. - It is not difficult to assess the strength of the further plot. - You will be given a great opportunity to be a "chosen" messenger on errands in countless exciting bring-and-serve quests. - If you are a seventy-year-old woman who has no one to talk to, it will be very pleasant and fun to listen to every NPC who will tell you his incredible biography from conception to the present day... If you thought these would be fascinating stories (NO). - Distribution ceremony, Yule score, Quidditch game, trips with the faculty to Hogsmeade - no. Running after goblins and creatures on the edges near Hogwarts - yes. If that's how you imagined the magical world of Rowling - welcome! I personally don't see it that way

The graphics are absolutely stunning, with a beautiful atmosphere that truly immerses you in the wizarding world. The attention to detail in the game is incredible, from the intricate designs of the Hogwarts castle to the lush landscapes surrounding it.

One of the standout features of the game is the beautiful music and great sound effects, which create an amazing ambiance that transports you to a magical world. The voice acting is also very good, adding depth and personality to the various characters you encounter throughout the game.

Although the performance of the game was initially poor, it has been improved with patches. However, some players still experience issues with ray tracing performance, even with high-end graphics cards like the RTX 3070 Ti.

The gameplay in Hogwarts Legacy is excellent, with a wide variety of gear to collect and upgrades to do. The game features 26 spells, including three curses, and the main combat spells are categorized as control, force, and damage. The game also offers a range of side quests and activities to explore, though some of these can become repetitive, particularly the Merlin trials and treasure vaults.

Exploring in Hogwarts Legacy can be very rewarding, as you unlock challenges that reward you with combat traits or even gear. The game also boasts a variety of enemies, each with their own vulnerabilities and weaknesses.

Overall, Hogwarts Legacy is a beautiful and immersive game that offers a lot of variety and depth. If you're a fan of RPG or action games, you're sure to enjoy this exciting journey through the wizarding world. While it has some performance issues and repetitive activities, the great graphics, music, and gameplay make it a must-play for Harry Potter fans and gamers alike.

Wirklich tolles Spiel.

Technically, this game squeezed my PC hard with some stuttering. It is really hungry for both RAM and VRAM. Some optimisation might be needed still but it's a great game. Kinda makes me think back to Shadow of Mordor/Shadow of War, a surprisingly good game based on a book series but telling its own story... One thing I would add is the interactiveness of the world. Most NPCs are just window dressing but they don't even react when I cast a dangerous spell... Even in Driver San Francisco the pedestrians, while impossible to hit, would at least move out of the way and acknowledge the potential danger and that's one old game... These folk just stand there unbothered. Kinda messes up the immersion.

    * Denuvo, performance-impacting DRM is present, hurting framerates and game smoothness and making sure you don't ever really own your copy of the game
    * Game uses Epic Online Services - the presence of this means I will never purchase the game
    * Woke / alphabet agenda with trans / crossdressing / homo content present in a number of places in the game whereby they just have to make a point of making sure you know they're gay, trans, etc. Heck, one of the side quests is seemingly designed to drum up sympathy for the crossdressing character...sigh. We need to stop enabling & encouraging so much mental illness in our culture; this is one of the key reasons so many people are on anti-depressants these days. The presence of this type of content likewise means I will never purchase a personal copy of the game
    * Awful game performance even on a high end rig with an RTX 3090 (poor optimization, effectively)
    * Even the deepest masculine voice for the character sounds like an effeminate boy
    * Once you get past the game's fantastic graphics, it's honestly kinda boring... the combat is mediocre and gets repetitive VERY quickly
    * No romance options in the game - and don't get me wrong, not saying there should be sexually explicit scenes or anything like The Witcher since this isn't an adult game, but you are playing the game as a teenager, and romantic relationships are a pretty big part of that part of a person's life - it can create dramatic situations and dynamics as well between other characters who may be competing for the same girl, etc. They could introduce this in a follow-up sequel when the main character sees some of his friends again that he developed good friendships with such as Poppy Sweeting, etc.
    * I'm admittedly baffled by the really high praise reviews; again not saying this is an awful game, but it's really nothing spectacular when you get past the graphics / animation quality and attention to the world itself. The actual game mechanics are not very impressive. It's just another open-world RPG style game like Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, etc. just in the Harry Potter universe.
    * The day / night cycle in the game is like a lot of open world games nowadays where the day cycle is way too short
    * Game feels a little dead in terms of the cast / environment and what I mean by that is while it's very pretty aesthetically, and there is a large cast of characters, they aren't really developed very well and so it feels somewhat empty. For example you might do a side quest for one character in the school, a fellow student...and you work with them on the quest and complete it. But then you never really interact with that student again despite going to school at Hogwarts every day with them. So it feels very sterile as far as the cast - you need to have fairly frequent contact with characters in order to generate a feeling for the player like they are there, and that the world really is alive. It's missing that feeling from Harry Potter movies where Harry, Ron, Hermione, etc. were frequently together working on things, and in this game you rarely see the main character with a similar group of people outside of some specific side quests.
    * Game has an exclusive quest locked down to Playstation - so chalk that up to anti-consumer behavior from the developer / publisher
    * Way too many cosmetics as the rewards for completing quests, challenges, etc. You'll complete certain challenges throughout the game, and worthless cosmetics seem to be overwhelmingly common - should have more narrative / dialogue as rewards, or something actually useful

    Pros:

    * Kudos for only giving (2) options during character creation for the Wizard / Witch and not trying to define the make-believe notion that there are more than two genders
    * Graphics are pretty darn good, they dedicated a lot of attention to detail when designing the world which is great to see. This is probably the highlight of the game
    * Lots of little events as you're walking around with things happening in the world - the animation work is fantastic by the development team. They really put monumental effort into constructing the world, and they deserve the absolute highest praise for that.
    * Relatively solid, yet nothing ground-breaking, main questline story. The end of the game sets up well for a sequel where, like the Harry Potter movies / books, the main character can return to Hogwarts for the 6th year and have more things to look forward to.

Game Length: 59 Hours - I did probably ~95% of the game. I didn't pick up all of the treausre chests, but did basically everything else - every side quest that was available, all of the Merlin Trials (quite tedious as there are like 95 of them), all of the star constellation tasks, completed the field guide, etc.

    Final Rating: 5/10.

So I'm just gonna give you a 9/10, straight up, there are not many games out there where you feel that it has taken over your life for a moment. What an amazing experience being able to walk and take in the Harry Potter/Wizarding World Universe in a game so full of content, along with interesting and purposefully likeable and unlikable characters.

And on top of that No Micro-transactions, no Time savers of any sort here. Well done, I will happily buy a sequel, It's going to be in America, Right? Maybe an older Student at Hogwarts, I don't know but where ever it is, I'll be ready with the rest of the fan base.

Combat 9/10 The combat feels very good, basically it revolves around making combos and rewarding the player for that, you both gain more energy for ancient magic when you make a large sequence of combo without being damaged and, of course, you can combo yours spells, like you can cast leviosa on an enemy and them depulso to throw him from a cliff. You can transform an enemy into an explosive barrel and throw it into another enemy, there are many combos. And the enemies, generally have one or two spells that they are weak in some window, like an enemy that attacks with the tongue is vulnerable if you cast leviosa on this tongue when he is gonna attack, then you can cut off his tongue with diffindo.

9/10 open-world - truly it surprised me. It is one of the best open-world that I've ever seen. It has so many details, especially in Hogwarts and the Hogsmeade village, they are so beautiful, Hogwarts seems exactly like in the movie with moving frames and armor statues, and even peeves there. The towers and the rooms are so well represented, it really feels like a real Hogwarts. Also, there are many puzzles in Zelda/Genshin style, like there is a torch, then you cast incendio, now there is fire in the torch and you gain some XP, or there are many flying papers scattered and you cast accio to catch then and you are reward with some XP. Also, there are many secrets rooms and puzzles. I really like this type of exploration, it feels very good.

Hogsmeade village is also very cool with many beautiful stores, especially the candy and prank stories.

The rest of the world is really big but kinda empty, there are a lot of "Ubisoft-style activities", like a lot of repetitive activities scattered on a huge map that seems a constant ctrl+c and ctrl+v.

Story 7.5/10 - one of the aspects that disappointed me. The story isn't bad but the characters are so lame. It was an interesting choice to make the game way before Harry Potter events but I really missed seem some old characters.

The main villain is so cliche he is Globin that wants to conquer everything and he isn't even developed, the professors are those types of personas who are always helping us, especially professor Fig, but honestly, that isn't so fun, I missed someone like Severus Snape in the Harry Potter franchise to create some drama. The Director is literally a clown with zero importance in the story. But, I must say, at least the guardians story is somewhat interesting, but the main-quest it would be 6.5/7

There are also three main side quests with 3 characters: Poppy, Sebastian and Naty, in many moments they are even better than the main quest. They develop these characters and although they aren't top tier either, they are cool, especially Poppy and Sebastian's quest, at the very least I could sympathize with them.

Also, one more aspect that this game copied from Genshin was the "illusion of choice", it has many dialogue options but it doesn't change anything.

I would highly recommend reading the mixed and negative reviews before buying this game, especially at full price. Not the ones by people who forgot that you're not supposed to iron the folds out of your brain and complain about wokeness and "AgeNDa", but the ones by people who actually break down the good and bad aspects of the game.

If you stripped out the Harry Potter name and theming of the game, you're left with a mediocre product at best. Once you've played the first 4 or so hours of the game, you've already experienced everything the game has to offer; the remaining 16 or so are just the first part but copy/pasted with a bit of variation.

If you just want to experience Hogwarts and have fun casting spells, this is a great game for that. If you want an immersive and interesting story, world, or characters, this falls way short. It's worth playing, but I would definitely wait until it goes on sale before picking it up.

And Poppy, the bubbly and sweet Hufflepuff, was an absolute joy to be around and provided a nice contrast to the darker moments in the game.

But the real standout feature of Hogwarts Legacy has to be the graphics. The castle and its surroundings look absolutely breathtaking, with every detail meticulously crafted to bring the magical world to life. From the twisting staircases to the lush gardens, exploring this world was a feast for the eyes and left me feeling fully immersed in the Hogwarts experience.

Speaking of exploration, the game does an excellent job of encouraging players to venture off the beaten path and discover the hidden secrets of Hogwarts. Whether it's uncovering hidden passages or stumbling upon a hidden creature in the Forbidden Forest, there's always something new and exciting to discover.

Of course, no game is perfect, and Hogwarts Legacy is no exception. While there are plenty of well-developed characters, I couldn't help but feel like Phineas Nigellus Black was a bit underutilized. As a major figure in Hogwarts history, it would have been nice to see more of him and his story explored.

    2. The world is littered by Ubisoft-style side tasks. There are almost 100 Merlin trials, boat loads of balloon challenges etc. Who the heck wants to do the same thing 100 times? All of this crap is also linked to expanding your inventory, ancient magic slots and higher level lockpicking which makes it practically mandatory.

    3. Enemy variaty is SEVERLY lacking. You will be fighting the same dark wizards and goblins for the majority of the game, alongside spiders, wolves and the occasional troll.

    4. The main story is very slow and not that interesting in general.

Had I rated the game after the first 10 hours, I would have given it a 9, but as the hours kept ticking, all the flaws just became more apparent and in the end I even struggeled to keep playing and actually finish it.

The combat is okay, there's a good flow to it and you've got lots of options, but many of the options do essentially the same thing. The spell combo system has some fun parts, but it can get VERY repetitive. There's not a huge variety of enemy types, and they all respond in pretty much the same way. Dial the difficulty up, because it gives you a LOT of time to dodge/counter otherwise and it really makes it less fun.

The exploration is alright, but it's stuffed like a bad Ubisoft title with the collecting. Progression is pretty simple--XP gives you points in terms of HP bonuses and talents, but a few of the talents are INCREDIBLY overpowered and make everything else a bit too easy. Other than that, collecting things, finishing challenges, etc. mostly lead to cosmetic unlocks and nothing that changes gameplay.

I found the music kind of dull--it didn't have the same brightness as the film soundtracks. Graphically it was okay, but I found most of the characters fairly dull looking. It had some FPS drops and a few glitches in the inexplicable underwater sections--not even sure why those were necessary. The flying was REALLY not fun for me, and the crafting was basic.

This feels like a game that you'd buy a younger person to get them more interested in gaming, but the experience of it wasn't something I enjoyed too much.

Definitely missed opportunity with not adding quidditch and some kind of coop/multiplayer in the game.

I approve of the chance you get to respond to other characters the friendly or rude way.

Telling all the side-quest NPCs to stop whining is great. The response of the main character is perfect.

Thanks goodness for the option to hide headwear. Hats and other headwear look ugly as hell.

Still getting lots of flickering on many objects. Seems to be an issue with the game. Fixes on the internet didn't work for me. Everything is up-to-date on my end.

The game is very hungry for pc resources, even with a top tier pc.
Better optimization is definitely needed, although I didn't get any fps drops on my system running the game at 4k, 60fps capped and most settings maxed aside from RT (causes flickering).

Had to turn on V-sync on NVCP because it suffered from screen tearing.
V-sync fast or adaptive didn't work, which is sad. Had the same issue with Spider-Man Remastered, but V-sync fast fixed it.

The game seems a bit overwhelming with all the collectibles.

Voice acting on German voice-overs is a bit off on some characters (and lacking lip-sync).

Can't turn off subtitles? These captions, for example: *chuckles*, piss me off.
Why is this a thing that is forced upon you?

The names have to be a joke sometimes, for example Nigellus Black, lol?
Character design of many characters seems forced to look equal (different skin color and such). Trying to make the game not look racist, kinda brings more attention to than it should.

Incredibly high minimum requirements. The graphics for such requirements are poor. A bug with hair that falls into textures, even in The Sims there is no such thing. Endless freezes and drops up to 10 fps. Can't make it full screen. Can't open settings during cutscenes. I am totally disappointed in this game as a harry potter fan.

The story is solid. Nothing that breaks you from immersion, but far from the level of Witcher 3 or RDR. Most of the characters feel real, but you won't get attached to them, game is lacking in showing them in more casual situations, and interactions with them are mostly to push the story, not to show their characters.
But the best part of the game is that the world feels alive. Hogwart feels real and detailed. This is the HP game we were waiting for.
Also, game have the usual problem with modern Open World games design, too many repetitive things to do. Clear Dark Wizards camp, finish the same puzzle 8 times, you know the drill. Good thing that those are mostly optional.
Combat can be challenging when it comes to fighting with multiple opponents. Spells are fun to use, and the game encourages you to use them all.

One of the best open world games I've played since gaming started for me which was the late 70s. Remarkable achievement. I have zero interest in the franchise but really enjoyed this fantastical video game. It's up there with Witcher 3, Forbidden West and on a good PC looks incredible at Native 4K and around 100fps.

This game is a true 10/10 for me. I absolutely adore it. It has completely captured the magic, for lack of a better word, of exploring Hogwarts and living in the wizarding world. With amazing and creative combat and secrets around every corner this game will keep you entertained for the long haul.

Pretty average unfortunately. Nothing really special here apart from it being a game in the HP universe. It nails the HP vibes with good aesthetics and great sound design, combat is also quite good. Fans will definitely like this.

The rest however is pretty uninspired, it's a generic open world flooded with map markers, nothing really exciting to find and stupid chores. That's also where the focus of the game is - You are out in the wild murdering millions of goblins and people, you are rarely at Hogwarts and if you are you are mostly doing fetch quests for incapable NPCs or speedrunning classes. Nothing you do has any consequence whatsoever and there aren't any real choices. A lot of mechanics are in the game, although they are all too shallow for my taste. The game feels a lot like Ubisoft made this. Looks great, especially at the start but is so shallow and boring underneath that really makes it just average. The dungeons are very uninspired, every cave I've found leads to exactly one treasure chest. Loot is boring, everything is just average.

Real review with no politics. The game is a lot of fun with a great combat system that can get repetitive at times. It has some optimization issues, I have a 3070 TI and have had to turn it down to medium settings to get it 60fps stable on my hdr 2k monitor. That being said, even the medium settings look great. The game feels alive and populated, not an empty waste like most open worldReal review with no politics. The game is a lot of fun with a great combat system that can get repetitive at times. Que political portion of review. The game definitely pushes its inclusive agenda to the forefront of the game for better or worse depending on your perspective. for all those claiming not to buy it because it funds JK Rowling, What about the dozens of developers who you are neglecting that actually agree with your agenda? to deny one person you are hurting so many more that pushed the inclusivity you ask for into this game. You all need to think before you speak. (I personally think the woke agenda has gone too far for the record)

    The game J.K. Rowling deserves.

What a masterpiece by Portkey Games. To say they have never made a game like this, they did the wizarding world of Hogwarts justice. Looks incredible, plays incredible, sounds incredible. Hopefully an official launch day patch/drivers for PC to fix the performance issues for some people. If they can run it like the opening sequence before Hogwarts,

Open world RPG set in the magical world, with its own interpretation while respecting the original work. Punctual fps drop in cinematics and certain areas. Playable, but to polish. reminds me of games like dragon age inquisition or similar. They have put a lot of care and detail to capture the magical world to their fans. Great job from devs.

This the best game I've played in years. I've about 15 hours in, I can't put it down. I'm so glad it's great with all the hype it had I didn't want it to fail. A few nitpicks, like add remapping of target lock switch, option to pause cutscreens, the castle map is a bit confusing but apart from that so good so far.

The success of Hogwarts Legacy clearly shows that good sales and warm feedback from players are ensured not so much by the gameplay thought out to the smallest detail but by carefully reproducing the right atmosphere. But this is already a subtle moment, akin to real magic, and here the nameless developers of Avalanche Software succeeded.

Hogwarts Legacy is an altogether excellent port of Wizarding World to PC screens. It proudly belongs to the Young Adult fiction genre, which may make immersion difficult for older gamers.
