Mar 10, 2026High on Life 2 delivers a more refined, witty humor and exhilarating skateboard mechanics, forging a uniquely entertaining experience. However, its combat remains simplistic and uninspired, with persistent performance issues, including frustrating bugs and framerate drops, unfortunately marring an otherwise imaginative artistic vision.
-
Apr 15, 2026An improvement over its predecessor in nearly every way. Still a colorful, vulgar, and talkative sci-fi hallucination, but now built around a genuinely strong shooter with good pacing, ideas, and fun movement enhanced by a skateboard. Despite overly long dialogue sequences and humor that may not appeal to everyone, it remains an entertaining experience throughout its roughly fourteen-hour runtime.
-
Mar 29, 2026High on Life 2 delivers a chaotic, brilliant script with sharp, adult humor, perfect for fans of Rick and Morty. The constant, sarcastic dialogue from the talking weapons is a highlight, driving a compelling narrative about saving humanity. However, the gameplay suffers from significant inconsistencies, including repetitive combat and frustrating bugs, even after early updates. The new skate mechanics add dynamism but can feel overwhelming. Performance issues, with noticeable frame drops on a high-end PC, detract from the experience.
-
Mar 2, 2026High on Life 2 tries to be more of a videogame than High on Life ever was — and to be fair, it actually succeeds. The problem is that nobody really asked for that, especially since, when you strip it down, it’s still an average shooter that in this second iteration loses much of the meta‑ironic charge that defined the first game.
-
Feb 19, 2026High On Life 2 may falter in a few key areas, and not everything connects--whether it's a drawn-out gag or a timid shotgun blast--but it stands out in a genre where the self-serious shooter is usually king, by offering an outlandish, comical, and creative alternative. The addition of a skateboard is a literal game-changer, and there's plenty of joy to be had seeing what exactly each mission entails. Its influences are overt, yet it has an identity all its own, and there are definitely worse ways to spend a weekend.
-
Feb 18, 2026High On Life 2 goes for more action and snappier movement while keeping its absurd humor and irreverent identity, even if it doesn’t fully recapture the original’s fresh impact. The addition of skating and new abilities brings real depth to both combat and exploration, while its straightforward, continuing story does the job without taking many risks. Fun and true to its core, though it can feel a bit repetitive.
-
Feb 17, 2026High on Life 2 can be a pain when it comes to performance, but if you're willing to look past that, there's some decent gameplay wrapped in the funniest dialogue a game can have.
-
Feb 16, 2026High on Life 2 is a breath of fresh air in a gaming landscape that, let’s face it, has a tendency to take itself way too seriously these days.
-
Feb 12, 2026If the team can refine things a bit with the next iteration, they could have another hit. For now, High On Life 2 stands as a conditional recommendation.
-
Feb 26, 2026A fun but flawed sequel that doubles down on the first game's quirky humor and inventive gunplay while adding new movement mechanics and environmental puzzles. However, technical issues and a core conflict between comedy and momentum hold it back from greatness. Best experienced on sale after patches.
-
Feb 16, 2026The sequel to Squanch Games' detestable FPS demonstrates significant improvement, though its biggest features remain its weakest - and technical issues hinder the progress made.
-
Feb 13, 2026I was really looking forward to High on Life 2, and the gameplay itself was solid – but the technical issues put me off. Even as a new iteration, High on Life remains one of the strangest games in video game history. Gameplay-wise, it remains solidly average.
-
Feb 13, 2026High On Life 2 sharpens numerous aspects of the series to much success, with great moment-to-moment gameplay and plenty of content to discover. Squanch Games nailed the balancing act between a serious plot and humorous adventures, finding a renewed purpose. However, the experience is undercut by inexcusable performance issues on PC that make it hard to fully recommend at this time.
-
Feb 12, 2026In a genre crowded with self-serious shooters, there is something refreshing about a series so deeply committed to its own identity. Even when the bit falters, even when it reaches for the lowest-hanging fruit, High on Life 2 never feels timid. It is garish and intermittently incisive. At its best, it makes the threat of human extinction feel like an open mic night you’re moderately glad you attended.

Edge MagazineMar 19, 2026As it stands, High On Life 2 makes a good case for throwing the baby out with the bathwater, then bleaching the tub. [Issue#422, p.114]

Feb 12, 2026For all its talk of revolution, High on Life 2 only seems interested in taking some crowd-pleaser jabs at those in power before getting back to its colorful alien distractions. Maybe that’s radical enough for something as light and silly as this. Finding ways to have fun is an act of rebellion in a world that thrives on keeping you down; you can still skate to a protest. High on Life 2 gives players plenty of space to goof off in a dystopian world filled with playgrounds for those with eyes to see. Why not take a breather between real fights to f*ck up some aliens?

Feb 12, 2026We’ve still got the bulk of the game to go, but it already feels pretty clear where this game will land for people. If you enjoyed the first game and still adore Rick and Morty’s ad-libbed humour, then this is absolutely for you. This brings plenty more of that same tone, but there’s a sprinkling of new ideas and fun diversions that could make it appeal more broadly. [Review in Progress]
