High On Life 2 is an absolute blast, and I dare you to find a funnier game to play this year.

Call me biased, but High On Life 2 is everything you ever wished for in a sequel. It’s bigger, better, more chaotic, and presents more f-bombs than you’d ever deem possible. Loaded to the brim with off-color humor and an over-the-top plot, High On Life 2 is a must play for every Squancher out there. Just make sure your pc is up to the demanding task, bucko.

High On Life 2 plays like an extended, interactive Rick and Morty feature, packed with relentless gags and offbeat dark humor. It carries forward the first game's anything-for-shock-value attitude, while new additions like the skateboard system and more varied weapon designs give its FPS foundation greater solidity.

High On Life 2 builds on the original with faster, more creative gameplay, stronger writing, and inventive traversal, delivering a vibrant and frequently hilarious sci-fi shooter. While technical issues and a divisive ending might hold it back, its memorable characters and varied missions make it a standout sequel.

High On Life 2 is a better-executed version of the first game. The skateboard does add some extra flavor to the gameplay, but it ultimately still is very similar to the core concept of the first game.

High On Life 2 is a sequel that took the concept of the first title, scrunched it up into a little ball, threw it in the bin and said “we can do better”. It smartly does away with the over-the-top edgy humour of the first game and replaces it with genuine funny moments, witty banter and charming personality. The addition of the skateboard for movement adds a super fun dimension to the gameplay and, in turn, helps combat to feel fast-paced and exhilarating. The extensive cast of characters, both old and new, is so full of personality, and even the smallest conversations feel meaningful. High On Life 2 is a vast improvement from its predecessor in every way, injected with fun from every angle.

We very easily forgive High on Life 2 its few flaws. The combat remains dynamic enough and the levels well designed enough for its weaknesses to feel secondary when set against the festival of stupidity it delivers. The game draws us in above all for its comedic proposition, and on that front it is a great success. Whether in the writing of its characters, the dialogue, or in certain offbeat situations—both in terms of gameplay and visually—the studio has spared no effort in bringing to life the wildest and most ridiculous ideas that crossed their minds. How can one not respect such dedication in elevating stupidity to the status of a true art form?

Despite my worries, High on Life 2 exceeded my expectations for the sequel to one of the weirdest, most enjoyable first-person shooters I have played. With an entertaining story, engaging fast-paced combat, and a gorgeous world, this becomes a uniquely creative experience worth playing through.

My concerns about this game turned out to be unfounded, which, as a Roiland enthusiast, I'm very happy about. As I said, even though the Rick and Morty creator isn't involved in running Squanch Games, he left his DNA behind, and it clearly still permeates the game development over there. And that's something you either love or hate. I like it, and I like High on Life 2.

Still a colorful, vulgar, and talkative sci-fi hallucination, but now built around a genuinely strong shooter with good pacing, ideas, and fun movement enhanced by a skateboard. Despite overly long dialogue sequences and humor that may not appeal to everyone, it remains an entertaining experience throughout its roughly fourteen-hour runtime.

The problem is that nobody really asked for that, especially since, when you strip it down, it’s still an average shooter that in this second iteration loses much of the meta‑ironic charge that defined the first game.

High On Life 2 may falter in a few key areas, and not everything connects--whether it's a drawn-out gag or a timid shotgun blast--but it stands out in a genre where the self-serious shooter is usually king, by offering an outlandish, comical, and creative alternative. The addition of a skateboard is a literal game-changer, and there's plenty of joy to be had seeing what exactly each mission entails. Its influences are overt, yet it has an identity all its own, and there are definitely worse ways to spend a weekend.

High On Life 2 goes for more action and snappier movement while keeping its absurd humor and irreverent identity, even if it doesn’t fully recapture the original’s fresh impact. The addition of skating and new abilities brings real depth to both combat and exploration, while its straightforward, continuing story does the job without taking many risks. Fun and true to its core, though it can feel a bit repetitive.

High on Life 2 can be a pain when it comes to performance, but if you're willing to look past that, there's some decent gameplay wrapped in the funniest dialogue a game can have.

High On Life 2 sharpens numerous aspects of the series to much success, with great moment-to-moment gameplay and plenty of content to discover. Squanch Games nailed the balancing act between a serious plot and humorous adventures, finding a renewed purpose. However, the experience is undercut by inexcusable performance issues on PC that make it hard to fully recommend at this time.

In a genre crowded with self-serious shooters, there is something refreshing about a series so deeply committed to its own identity. Even when the bit falters, even when it reaches for the lowest-hanging fruit, High on Life 2 never feels timid. It is garish and intermittently incisive. At its best, it makes the threat of human extinction feel like an open mic night you’re moderately glad you attended.
