despite the problems that this game has the idea and story alone sells it to me but there is an 8/10 plus game hiding here with enough bug fixes polishing better controls and more time spent developing the game this could have been a horror gem there are also to many ideas it tries to juggle at once if it had picked one weather that would be the horror the mystery or the story i would lovedespite the problems that this game has the idea and story alone sells it to me but there is an 8/10 plus game hiding here with enough bug fixes polishing better controls and more time spent developing the game this could have been a horror gem there are also to many ideas it tries to juggle at once if it had picked one weather that would be the horror the mystery or the story i would love this game my overall rating is 7/10 Expand

I can't believe how many people are hating this game. This is one of the games that are absolutely interesting. The game choud be acctually better of course, if the developers aren't such lazy and bad by executing it, but it has still recieved a better score than that. I know that there are more HN lovers than haters.
First, Reasons why this game is in some ways good:
    - good idea - good

First, Reasons why this game is in some ways good:
    - good idea
    - good telled story
    - big house with secrets (in Act 3)
    - a good enemy (the Shadowman)
    - good item stacking systen

Now, Reasons why this is somewhere bad:

    - no hints to puzzles
    - bad puzzles
    - plenty of bugs
    - bad made nightmare levels

The Graphics are fine and the AI is NOT bad. It's not good but also not terrible.
every person that hates this game, are persons that haven't played it corectely.
this game series even still has potential that can be used for being better.
in the new game HN2 was a bit of a failure too, but that doesn't mean than this series lost it's potential + you don't know what happens in the future. You don't know that they coud release a new Patch, new game and so
The Original game is in my opinion good and shoud deserve a higher meterscore than that.

I don't know what happened to this one... All of the alphas were SO much better and they weren't even a complete game. The entire thing feels like a rushed mess and has no replay value. 4/10 Expand

The Lost Potential of Hello Neighbor: A Misstep in Development

Hello Neighbor, a stealth horror game developed by Dynamic Pixels, garnered significant attention upon its release. With its intriguing premise of sneaking into a neighbor's house to uncover hidden secrets, the game held immense promise. However, as development progressed, particularly in Act 3, Hello Neighbor failed to fulfill its potential, straying from its original path and leaving players feeling unsatisfied. In this essay, we will explore how Hello Neighbor's Act 3 veered off course, resulting in a missed opportunity for an otherwise innovative and captivating gaming experience.

To understand the disappointment surrounding Act 3 of Hello Neighbor, we must first acknowledge the game's initial acts, which laid the groundwork for an exciting and suspenseful adventure. Act 1 introduced players to the mysterious neighbor, encouraging them to explore the house and uncover secrets while evading detection. The game excelled at creating tension and a sense of curiosity, leading players to eagerly anticipate what Act 2 had in store.

Act 2 built upon the foundation laid in Act 1, taking players beyond the neighbor's house to explore the larger world outside. The expanded environment offered diverse landscapes, new challenges, and enhanced gameplay mechanics. Act 2 successfully maintained the core elements of stealth and exploration, keeping players engaged and invested in unraveling the neighbor's secrets.

Unfortunately, Act 3 of Hello Neighbor marked a turning point where the game's potential began to fade. Instead of building upon the intriguing narrative and gameplay established in the previous acts, Act 3 took a different direction, losing sight of the game's initial strengths.

One of the primary issues with Act 3 is the lack of coherence and clarity in its objectives. Players were suddenly confronted with bizarre and disjointed puzzles that seemed unrelated to the overarching narrative. The previously immersive experience was replaced with frustration and confusion, as the game failed to provide adequate guidance or context for the new challenges.

Furthermore, Act 3 introduced a supernatural and surreal tone that clashed with the grounded and suspenseful atmosphere of the previous acts. The inclusion of fantastical elements, such as time travel and ghostly entities, felt out of place and detracted from the game's original premise. This departure from the established tone created a jarring experience that left players questioning the direction of the game's development.

Another aspect that contributed to the disappointment of Act 3 was the lack of meaningful progression. The game's earlier acts had a clear sense of progression, as players gradually discovered more about the neighbor's secrets and uncovered new areas. However, Act 3 failed to provide a satisfying payoff for the time and effort invested by players. The narrative felt disjointed, and the ending left players with more questions than answers, ultimately leaving them dissatisfied and unfulfilled.

Hello Neighbor had immense potential, captivating players with its unique premise and engaging gameplay in the initial acts. However, Act 3 took a misstep, deviating from the established formula and losing sight of what made the game intriguing. The lack of coherence, the introduction of supernatural elements, and the absence of meaningful progression all contributed to the disappointment surrounding Act 3. While Hello Neighbor had the ingredients for a memorable gaming experience, its deviation from the right path during development hindered its ability to fulfill its potential. Despite its flaws, Hello Neighbor remains an important case study highlighting the importance of maintaining a cohesive vision throughout the entire development process to deliver a satisfying and immersive gaming experience.

Unfortunately, only an amount of frustration and badly made game is hidden in the tempting package. For a good horror adventure, you must go elsewhere.

The game is embarrassingly simple in its gameplay, but at the same time it’s incredibly difficult due to a poor technical state and a terrible game design. [Issue#282]
