I tried this game while it was in alpha phase and my toughts were : "What a great Idea, with a good concept but such a very very lame execution!"

This game looked promising but the gameplay is BAD! It would've been soooo much better if it had a slower and more strategic pace. During the time I played it I felt like I was spending 90% of my time just running around, escaping. I

It would've been soooo much better if it had a slower and more strategic pace.

During the time I played it I felt like I was spending 90% of my time just running around, escaping.
I wished there'd be more "hiding", more strategy!
    I would've prefered a more "Stealthy" approach/gameplay.
Once I've been spotted by the neighbor, it felt as if my ONLY option was to run back to the street as fast as I can!

I wished it was more like Outlast where you could hide in some places, some shadows in almost any room to have your persuer reset its state.

Even when you do try and run, the action is so fast that you stumble and get stuck around every corner and most of the time end up being caught to a point where it's not even stressful anymore.

Last times I intruded the house, once I got spotted I just waited for him to catch me cause I knew i'd just get more and more frustrated if I cared to try and escape...

Hello Neighbor is um…er…interesting to say the least, with much less emphasis on horror elements than would be expected from all the preview videos people have been watching on Steam/YouTube for a number of months now. If you picture Pixar remaking The Burbs and replacing Tom Hanks with a kid as the protagonist, you’ll have at least a slight idea of what this game is like. If you picture Pixar remaking The Burbs and replacing Tom Hanks with a kid as the protagonist, you’ll have at least a slight idea of what this game is like. The art style is great and the cheery color scheme and cartoony graphics make for a whimsical take on the creepy-suburban-neighbor-up-to-no-good theme.

Is it worth the $30? Absolutely not! Well, at least not in its current state as there are definitely some bugs and glitchy gameplay mechanics that need to be fixed.

Examples: achievements are broken and don’t unlock, or perhaps you need to go with one of the alpha builds on the beta tab under properties when right-clicking on the game in your library to get them to work – I’m just speculating on that; sometimes if you get too close to a door you need to eventually go through but can’t open just yet, it’s possible to throw an object that you need to make use of through the door, making it impossible to progress further unless you restart the act, of course that’s assuming that you haven’t already made use of that object and that you tossed it rather than using it when at the door, such as a key that unlocks the padlock on the door – good news here is that this shouldn’t happen too often, if at all, if you’re careful; occasionally, when attempting to make use of stacked objects to solve one of the game’s many environmental-based puzzles, the objects will tip over, which is expected, but the unexpected part is that you fall all of 5 or 10 feet to your death which normally only happens from much higher up.

Now for the core gameplay elements. Stealth is kind of a factor but like the horror aspect, largely takes a backseat to simply running for your life and narrowly avoiding ‘The Neighbor’ by jumping/climbing like a total freak to avoid him. Works sometimes, other times it doesn’t (you have infinite stamina, so that works, plus you can oddly climb ladders at about 378 mph even while holding stuff…that, um, works too but is more comical than anything). Stealth definitely seems like it should be more of a factor and he’ll find you more often than he should. Also, it seems odd that he’ll break windows in his own house to more quickly come after you. Unique you say, hecks yes, but odd…absolutely! I think that aspect alone will have many gamers scratching their heads. Then there are the puzzles. Many puzzles. Sooooo many puzzles that I quickly lost count. They’re environmental/physics based and largely involve box stacking but the reason for doing so/the objective of this is so complex and obscure at times that sadly many gamers will end up getting stuck and likely give up. The tediousness of figuring all this stuff out and where to get objects you need to progress is ultimately going to turn many gamers off from wanting to put more time in this game, even if they normally love exploring and figuring out challenging things in games. I personally love this aspect of the game but I feel that the devs definitely need to turn it down a notch in a future build if they want to attract more casual gamers to it. That and the asking price. Also, the vast majority of things you encounter in the game, most notably the weird pseudo flashbacks or vision quests into the neighbor’s past, or whatever you want to call them, largely make absolutely no sense whatsoever, most notably old-timey, semi articulated mannequins pushing carts through a grocery store that looks like something out of Beetlejuice….don’t even ask.

Despite all of its quirks and a number of buggy issues, I can’t help but like this game and it will be interesting to see the direction the devs take it in, perhaps some DLC or holiday themed updates.

    UPDATE (12/15/17):

Now that I've managed to get past the hellish puzzles and broken areas of this game, finally completing it, I can assuredly proclaim, as many others have indicated, that the ending truly makes no sense whatsoever. It will be nice once the achievements work, though I almost dread going through it again. Still, I can't help but look forward to doing so.

It's just very bad. The game failed to deliver what we asked for, it had so much hype. I just feel like I am still playing open beta. The textures didn't change at all from beta.

Anyone else getting the impression that almost all of the positive reviews might just be one or two desperate fans with multiple accounts trying to manipulate the ratings? I say this because 5 of the reviews have equally bad grammar and 2 of the 5 reviews misspelled A.I. with I.A. so with that said whatever you do don't buy this terrible game. Seriously even for the youtube/theory target audience this game fails on almost every level and when I say don't buy this game I mean even when it goes on sale its not worth it. No sum of money will justify the terrible quality of this game.

I'm just going to leave a quick unbiased review and move on to some other games. (Hello Neighbor) has a lot of potential and can be a pretty fun game when it works, again when it works. There are so many game breaking bugs that just taints the experience of what would have otherwise been a really good indie game.

(Example Of Some Bugs) These bugs can range from falling out of the map, broken/stuck A.I, textures not loading in and instead has the default Unreal Engine 4 grey checkerboard surface, some cutscenes don't play correctly or freezes forcing you to restart, etc. The most bizarre bug was when the Neighbor Guy got caught up in some collision based objects and gets shot straight up in the air and out of the map, at this point I had the whole (ACT/Level) to myself without worrying about the Neighbor which made that playthrough really boring.

The game isn't always about running from the neighbor, some acts mixes things up a bit and have you playing through some weird dream like sequences which were actually pretty cool visually. Also there is a story, however rather then telling a story through dialogue, its instead told through expressions/body language and even through visual symbolism. But as interesting of an idea this was, It could have been implemented a little better and even when you do start to get some sort of idea of what is happening in the story at the end of the day its just standard at best. That would have been fine however rather then being okay with a standard story, the game leaves me feeling empty inside and that I have wasted my time playing this game, this is all due to the unbelievably disappointing ending. It's like you go to this old house, have a fever dream and then wake up and go back to moving your stuff in the house... that's literally the ending, look it up if you don't believe me.

So the story was a let down, but there are a few things this game gets right. The most noticeable positive thing about the game is it's Eye Candy art style. Even when I read the negative reviews almost all of them had to admit that they liked the art style despite the other flaws of the game. Another thing the game does well is the gameplay, at the start of the review I said its a good game when it works, well when bugs are disrupting your playthrough the game is actually pretty fun. You have a decent sized map to work with when hiding from the neighbor and along side that there are quite a bit of interesting puzzles that get you thinking but are not at hard even for those who aren't very good or even hate puzzles. A lot of the puzzles are based around the way you explore the environment and also physic based as well.

The main focus of the gameplay however is by dealing with the neighbor and it's supposedly amazing A.I. Now i'm just going to say it as it is, the A.I. is kinda dumb and doesn't always work the way its suppose to and I think overall the A.I. was the biggest let down. I wasn't expecting a great story or anything, what originally got my interest was the concept of how the A.I. was going to be used in the game. The A.I. from my first playthrough got stuck/lost 3 times, when you have an A.I. thats not that great fiddling around with traps and other tactics your result is usually going to be disaster. Half of the time the methods he uses to stop me end up being used against him even when I have no part in it. The most common way he gets stuck is when he boards himself in a room that has no other way out and sometimes his A.I. path finding gets confused if you stay in certain areas.
When these things aren't happening you can get some pretty fun and intense situations happening but they can be rare depending on your approaches of playing the game.

So to sum everything up, the game was over hyped and the developers were dishonest about how advance the game really was. (Hello Neighbor) Is not a bad game, its just a disappointing game. Hello Neighbor is sort of like No Man's Sky, both are good games in their own ways but sadly both were rushed, both developers lied about the features of their games and were over hyped by the general public. If all the bugs were fixed and the game had more polished content to offer I would give this game a (6/10) or (7/10) but due to how the game was published, its just left a bad taste in my mouth... this game gets a (4/10).

Controversial but good gameplay, complex but simple puzzles and more beautiful graphics than water, but in itself there are mistakes that can be fixed with patches but despite these bugs, they did not hurt me the game and I enjoyed the game to the fullest.

The game is fine... but it could have been better to be completely honest.

The game was unfortunately released with a lot of bugs making what could have been good game become hard to enjoy to the fullest. The game is nothing big or ground breaking like we were all led to believe from all the hype, but if you are willing to look past these flaws just a little bit, there is still some fun

The game is nothing big or ground breaking like we were all led to believe from all the hype, but if you are willing to look past these flaws just a little bit, there is still some fun to be had with Hello Neighbor. The story is pretty standard and the AI was nowhere near as advanced as what the developers were making it out to be. But now that I think of it, I had the most fun with this game from just messing around with the bad A.I. and seeing how much I can break the game. If this is something you don't enjoy doing and you actually want a game that is polished and have a great amount of content to play with, then this game probably isn't for you.

I'm not going to lie even with some of the laughs Iv'e had screwing around with the game, I was still pretty disappointed with the final product and refunded the game. This game for the way it is right now is totally not worth $30, but it wouldn't hurt to check it out if it goes on sale for like 50% off on steam.

I'm sorry but recommending this game at its current state right now should be considered a crime.

I was super exited for this game after playing Alpha 1 and the ironic thing is Alpha 1 was the best and most stable version of the game, every update since felt like a downgrade and just added more problems to the game. Even after the game is apparently fully developed, I still feel like

Even after the game is apparently fully developed, I still feel like I'm playing the beta version just slightly more extended. This is by no means a finished game and I'm just sick of these early access games being left half finished or just rushed out with a ton of bugs.
This game does not deserve a rating above 5/10, I don't plan on buying another game made or published by these guys since obviously these devs could care less about the quality of their own games.

Do not buy this game for $30, instead just watch a lets player on youtube, it will be more entertaining than playing the actual game plus its free. :-P

The game has a nice art style, but besides that there is really nothing to this game, its just another generic game that offers nothing new to the table. The game still feels unfinished, its riddled with bugs/glitches, a good number of them are game breaking and the A.I. sucks which completely ruins the game for me since the main focus of gameplay is based around the A.I.

    Clearly this

Clearly this game was rushed and had little to no care for it when it comes to the quality of the "finished" product, If you still feel like checking it out... Don't buy it for the full $30, wait for it to go on sale for like $15 - $10.
