A mainline Halo game has finally come to PC as part of a much larger compilation. If you desire high-octane Halo action on PC, Reach is as good a start as any, but heed this port's rough edges and missing features.

Halo: Reach has an engaging campaign and numerous multiplayer game modes to keep you pre-occupied. Unfortunately, various issues abound from technical woes and lack of options, to matchmaking problems, and it's hardly what you'd expect from the flagship FPS franchise's arrival on PCs. Like the protagonist's namesake, this effort is more of a "six" unless we see more patches down the line.

And since this is an older game being smashed into working shape on PC, that means we can rest (mostly) assured that Xbox Game Studios won't be bolting extra obnoxious systems on top, particularly microtransactions. Halo Reach now is like Halo Reach then. And that's arguably the greatest comfort of all this time around.

Nostalgia will probably carry Halo: Reach and the rest of The Master Chief Collection even if the ports aren’t great. That’s the short of it. I’m hoping 343 can fix some of my issues, especially with the controls, but it’s a faint hope. As I said, 343 ran a multitude of beta tests this year, enough to delay the release by six months or so. The fact that these problems weren’t ironed out makes me worried they can’t be.
  3. Reach is decent. There are moments when the campaign shines, as you’re charging about to thumping rock music, zapping squishy enemies rather than plugging away at Elites. Or jumping onto tanks and punching them to death. There aren’t enough games nowadays that let you jump onto tanks and punch them to death.

I rarely write reviews on websites like this but I felt compelled to considering how hyped I was for this, and how let down I am. They had so much time and so many betas that the expectation was that the launch would be spot on. Issues at launch include absolutely atrocious audio quality, lack of HDR support for PC entirely, issues with framerate and mouse controls, among other things. The audio quality is really the kicker though because it's so horrible it makes the game completely unplayable. Every weapon sound is completely muffled like it's 480P youtube quality audio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9mY0SFTLjk this is a video displaying how it sounds. I'm going to wait until they fix this or get a refund. Full Review »

This game is just amazing. Awesome campaign and a really fun multiplayer, well optimized for PC version. Audio needs release corrections.
