    Almost a year since release and game still has broken balance and absolutely nonsensical rating system where you have to waste your time each month to do pointless celestial challenge. Still no way to check ping before match, still no proper way to tell a skill level of a player. Half of the cast still absolutely braindead overtuned unga bunga gorillas.
    Only netcode and visuals are great.

    Good gameplay, good netcode, questionable lobbies. My main criticism is the lack of single player content as well as the laughable unlockables that come through fishing. Youtube trailers, character art and shoes for your avatar... really ArcSys? Will you ever step up and give us any sort of incentive to grind in this game? Maybe some costumes, unlockable characters, color palletes..Good gameplay, good netcode, questionable lobbies. Maybe some costumes, unlockable characters, color palletes.. anything outside of irrelevant stuf that can be easily accessed through the internet. There's also a lack of steam collectibles for this game. Story is also a big long cutscene, which adds to the very little content there is to do for offline play.

    It's a good game, but only for the people that are planning to go hard online. Outside of that, game doesn't offer much outside of a very good and detailed tutorial mission.    … Expand

    I really want to love this game as the combat mechanics, art and music design are all incredible. Unfortunately the online experience is remarkably sub-par. Second from the worst only to Smash Ultimate, the decisions Team Red decided to follow through with through an onslaught of negative user review during the beta process is baffling. The online lobby is a slow, clunky nightmare that bogs down what could be done with a menu. An inability to review connection before a match is mitigated by some tremendous netcode, but this is a basic feature that has been a staple of online games for over a decade. I cant love this game when it gets in its own way so often. I have more complaints, but it's depressing me just to talk about it.… Expand

    GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- is a great fighting game and a great sequel to an old franchise which successfully caters to both genre veterans and newcomers. It is a bit on the expensive side, but the gameplay, art, and music all justify it.

    Each fighter is very unique, so, even though there is a good tutorial, it will take a long time before you’ll learn how to fight properly. Still, if you have even a slightest interest in Japanese fighting games – you absolutely have to check out Strive. [Issue#254, p.56]

    In summary, Guilty Gear Strive is an excellent evolution of a series that’s always provided players with a unique and interesting approach to weapons-based combat, and now it’s slightly less impenetrable for newcomers. It’s got room to grow, but it’s a stylish, standout fighter whose strengths absolutely outnumber its flaws.
