    This is a great game, dark and deep story, solid gameplay mechanics, great replayability. I would give this game a 9 or 10 even. But the crappy ass rockstar launcher ruins most of the experience.

    Story is so interactive and characters are really good too. Guns feel a little off but still fun.
    Main grind for me is that driving is really boring and the player is punished way too much for dying. But still a great game to play even today.

    GTA IV has a darker tone than its predecessor. I missed the individualisation options that GTA San Andreas had. But the story is great, the atmosphere of Liberty City is excellent, and the gameplay is fantastic.

    While this game is a masterpiece, the same thing can't be said with PC version of GTA 4.

    Apprezzo l'aggiornamento fatto in passato dalla Rockstar per la complete edition su steam, però sono già passati un paio di anni e invece di moddarlo preferirei che riaggiungessero alcune musiche delle radio che hanno levato e se fixassero qualche bug o ottimizzare la compatibilità con i nuovi sistemi operativi
    Comunque in fin dei conti è sempre un bel gioco

    I liked gta 4 this is one of the only gta games that i likesd story wise however there are some problems like how there are pc fps issues and how over 10 years later i can only manage 60 fps max on an rtx 2060 and how i had to reinstall the game when i find graphical and cutcene issues apart from this the game is perfect the story and plot are some of the best in the gta serise and theI liked gta 4 this is one of the only gta games that i likesd story wise however there are some problems like how there are pc fps issues and how over 10 years later i can only manage 60 fps max on an rtx 2060 and how i had to reinstall the game when i find graphical and cutcene issues apart from this the game is perfect the story and plot are some of the best in the gta serise and the graphics rival games relased today (the remakes of gta 3 - SA)… Expand

    Це дуже хороша гра! З сюжетом дуже гарно попрацювали,він пророблений до найменьших деталей. Дуже ощасливила СНГ тема. Сподобалась технологія eiphorya physicks, та реалістичне поводження транспорту.

    Именно 4ая часть GTA вышла просто не в своё время. Игроки конца 2000х годов ждали от игр онлайн, а изначально в GTA 4 его небыло, а то что подгрузили потом, можно назвать  - стыдом и позором Rockstar.
    Так что это конечно полный провал в серии, хотя игра супер. Просто вышла не в своё время.

    Best game ever! Nostalgia! GTA IV is very nostalgic for me. I remember I played this game on a PS3 in a hotel I went to with my family when I was just 7-8 yo. I forgot this game and I saw an gameplay on YouTube. I remembered that this game was so perfect so I bought this game on PS3 and PC. I also have a GTA IV collection with more than 10 GTA IV game.     As a kid I never really liked GTA too much. I used to consider it a "dirty" franchise, which is a term I used for things that you'd expect your elder brother to like when you were kids. It didn't have too much colour, there are no colourful characters, there is no comedic storyline and so on. Turns out I had been thinking this way about GTA because of this very game. So after I finished GTA V last year before the pandemic started, I decided to give this game a try. I started playing this game before the pandemic, and finished it after it. Turns out this is now my favourite game in the franchise.
    I don't know why, but I think there's something about East Europeans that they can never be taken casually. And this game is something that has expanded over that. GTA IV is the only serious, grounded game in the entire GTA franchise that actually follows a grim, dark storyline of Niko Bellic, a Serbian man who has come to America to start his new life. He has nothing left back in his country other than sad memories, but in America he has the thing he needs the most in life, a new, positive hope, something his cousin Roman is giving him. But it turns out Roman had been lying to him the whole time.
    Niko saves Roman from the Russian mob he had set them upon, gets a girlfriend, meets many new friends and tries to get over his past and start life with a fresh page, except the Russian mob, the FIB and even Roman himself just won't let him be in peace. And this is the reason why this game is so good. Unlike V, San Andreas or Vice City, this one makes the plot so powerful it makes you feel both happy and sad at the same time. In every serious scene there is a subtle humour that will take away the grim tone that it gives without making the jokes look forced. The bank robbing scene, Niko killing Vlad, Niko telling his story to Roman while he dozes off - there are plenty of such scenes.
    Another thing that makes this game so metal is the tone. The colour palette looks very, very bleak in spite of not actually being so. Although I think this is because the Rockstar games made back then used to look like this (since Bully also has the same colour palette), it really suits this game's tone. The cars are also very realistic. In GTA V, every car has a very luxurious interior. Even the dump trucks have digital screens. Tell me, does such a thing happen in real life? Do cars actually look anything even close to being that good? No, right? This is what I like about this game. The cars look very filthy from the inside, just like how they are in real life.
    Speaking of cars, this game surely has a bad mechanic for driving. Personally this is the only complaint I have with this game. Steering a car feels like steering a boat. It gets even worse when it comes to driving a truck or a bus. The weapon combat, however, completely makes us for that. This is probably the only GTA game to have an even combat. In GTA V the combat is more biased in the player's favour while in GTA San Andreas the combat is more biased in the opponent's favour (depending on who the opponent is). The weapon usage is also much better in comparison to the previous games, and this was made even better in GTA V.
    Another thing I really like about this game is the music. The menu music of this game is probably the best one in existence. The loading screen also really looks like it means business, with all the characters appearing on the screen with Soviet Connection playing in the background really gives a bossy feeling to it. While driving the car I always switched to Vlodovstok to listen to Eins Zwei Drei Schicke Schicke Schweine. It was my favourite song in the whole game (do give it a listen on YouTube, it's amazing).
    GTA IV is, in simpler words, metal. It's metal from start to end, irrespective of what choices you make. It's really surprising it does not have the same reputation as GTA V or San Andreas, even though this is the highest rated game in the franchise.     Это потрясающая игра, лучшая часть серии GTA и одна из лучших игр Rockstar Games. Сюжет великолепный, а главный герой Нико Беллик лучший. Определённо каждый должен пройти эту замечательную игру.

    Создатели четвёрки крепко перелопатили свою же серию, выкинув, как по мне, всё лишнее. По максимуму сосредоточились на истории и атмосфере, и в итоге всё вышло великолепно. Мне также очень понравилось то, как они раскрыли персонажей. Помимо квестов, которые Вы можете выполнить за второстепенных персонажей, Вам даётся возможность сблизиться с ними при помощи дружественных посиделок. ВыСоздатели четвёрки крепко перелопатили свою же серию, выкинув, как по мне, всё лишнее. По максимуму сосредоточились на истории и атмосфере, и в итоге всё вышло великолепно. Мне также очень понравилось то, как они раскрыли персонажей. Помимо квестов, которые Вы можете выполнить за второстепенных персонажей, Вам даётся возможность сблизиться с ними при помощи дружественных посиделок. Вы можете перекусить, бухнуть, поиграть в бильярд, боулинг, дартс. И сделано это очень качественно; Вы узнаёте много нового о персонаже, и Вам на его дальнейшую судьбу будет далеко не насрать. Плюс у каждого свои история, переживания и взгляды на мир, что позволяет Нико раскрываться и самому. Пусть он и не очень приятен внешне, но по ходу повествования им очень сильно проникаешься и понимаешь, что играешь не просто за трёхмерную модельку, а за настоящего персонажа.
    Сам Либерти-Сити (прототипом которого является Нью-Йорк) очень впечатляет. Лично мне безумно нравится его архитектурное величие и тяжесть. А когда начинают идти дожди, вообще диву даешься, насколько может запасть в душу видеоигра. На этом и выстроился мой личный симбиоз к GTA IV. Я по-настоящему полюбил эту игру, этих персонажей, эту атмосферу, музыку, ливни. Игра стала мне очень родной. Конечно, я могу понять альтернативные взгляды, мол игра слишком серая, унылая, в ней мало того, что кто-то раньше полюбил; я это понимаю, но не соглашаюсь. Моё мнение в том, что серия GTA в своей четвёртой номерной части достигла самого большего величия и восхищения и доказала, что игры могут быть в первую очередь искусством, а уже потом обычным развлечением.    … Expand

I literally hate this **** Because of this nonsense, I just wasn't able to turn on the game for a week until I finally made it. Although I got it, another problem came right away and that was optimization. OK. It's a fact that my PC at the time was not among the elite of the PC Master Race, but I still expected a smoother game. In the end, I had to settle for low detail and 20FPS. Well, somehow I survived. I really wanted to play the game. I'm a fan of the GTA series and I fell in love with San Andreas. So I had to play the fourth part at all costs, but it just didn't work out very well. What I was looking forward to was multiplayer. I could already imagine shooting with a friend around the city. He is horrible here because of the already mentioned platform, because Games For Windows LIVE gave me a nickname in advance and it was just really bothered with it, but I still managed to join a friend in the final, but after a while it starts to be totally nothing if you are free in the city and do not complete missions. Golden SAMP, where there was always something to do. OK. I've mentioned enough of my disappointment here. Unfortunately, this is not the end of it. While the previous parts were still adding something, for some reason GTA IV is taking away. I don't know if the Rockstar Games didn't have enough time or just decided not to put things into play that we could happily do in San Andreas. We are talking about diving, for example. Maybe stupid for someone, but I personally enjoyed diving a lot in San Andreas and here it could have been many times better thanks to the new engine on which the game runs. Also, we can no longer change our body based on what we eat or strengthen. I understand that not everyone has been a fan of our character changing according to how we behave, but what I don't understand anymore is that we don't have the opportunity to fly a plane here. Damn why? Since the airport is here, I was looking forward to flying over the Liberty City plane, which I will get to. But I'm at the plane, I press the enter button and nothing. Unfortunately, the error was not on my side, but on the side of the developers. In short, you can't fly here by plane. What totally stopped me was the control. The developers here probably tried for realism, which I would say they would succeed, but GTA is not a simulator for me, but a real violent game where you kill everyone around and do what you want. This is also helped by the main protagonist Niko Bellic, who came here to live the American dream and he gradually finds out that it is completely or according to his plans. Overall, the story is, in my opinion, perhaps the best in the series. The missions may not surpass San Andreas or Vice City, but the plot is perhaps the best GTA. Someone has called us here and there before, but this time you have the option to pull out your mobile phone when you want to, and for example call your cousin Roman if you don't want to go to a bowling alley.     Obviously, the main character (let me introduce you to the famous Niko Bellic) does NOT have the charisma we all expected with his jogging suit and sloppy appearance. He is included with a story with highs and lows, often awfully predictable, sometimes quite interesting. If you meet a huge number of different characters, I must admit that they don't evolve much, unlike you who keep climbing the social ladder. The map is huge but you can only get to some parts by playing a lot and it unlocks very slowly. Controls are a bit stiff and Niko is sometimes hard to manipulate. As in each and every GTA game, characters are overly-stereotyped and way too often reduced to their visual appearance. The major flaw of this game is surely its launcher and all the traps and bugs that Rockstar is responsible for, including the overall quality of the PC portage.

    However, online mode is fantastic. The fact that you can take random objects in the streets and throw them away is amazing (too bad they erased this ability in GTA V). Phyiscs are great, the death scenes are fun to watch. Driving in the whole state is fun. The world around you is truly living and reacts to your actions, even if AI is not always at its best. Story is really long and forces you to explore different places and activities (even if missions become honestly repetitive at the end).     It definitely gets beaten out by GTA5 in almost every category, but that doesn't make this game any less fun.

    My biggest gripe with the game is that there's not much to do in the City as in San Andreas there's no deep character customization no airplanes no managing parapets and you're money had nothing to spend on other than guns and clothes, at the end of game you'll have a half million dollars that you can do almost nothing to spend it but this issue it's not big deal for me at least you can do side activities like playing bowling or pool and going to burger shot and visit some comedy club and watch some hilarious shows and the radio stations are fun to listen at, you can hang out with some characters you met through out the story and listen to some more dialogues, the side missions are great especially the random encounters and the assassination missions.

    Cons:
    -Terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE optimization, the PC port is plain garbage
    -Severe waste of potential on some absences like having different haircuts, customizing cars, weapon customization and/or variety, or having a wider variety of places to hang out in / activities to do
    -Tedious secondary character interaction in the form of dating and hanging out with in-game friends
    -Repetitive and frustrating 100% checklist

    I think this is the most overrated gta ever. It does nothing better than gta sa, so many things got worse. There are a few open world activities, they are boring. Driving physics are simulationistic but that is unnecesarry because that makes the game even harder when driving. Because it has good physics, that doesn't make the game better.     The online didn't have much content but it managed to be a lot of fun with just a few missions, races, deathmatches and a free world at the airport

    Details as incredible as that niko improves his English over time or if you fail the mission will have new dialogues, internet, physics, driving, the a.i. and many more details that to this day continue to surprise me.

    The b.s.o. It is good with its main theme and stations like the journey, the gunplay improved a lot compared to other gta as being able to aim manually or automatically depending on the pressure of the trigger or cover yourself even rolling to a cover

    Every time I play it again I discover or remember some detail that seems incredible to me that it was in 2.008

    the pc version is not very well optimized even today it is difficult to move it to current computers, even so most of the time you can move it to 60fps with everything at maximum and the graphical difference compared to the xbox 360 and ps3 versions is very big

    Относительно поздно понял какая это все же пушка.Сюжет и история топ 1 из всех серий,протагонист вообще лютый штэмп.Крч это топ 2 жта без базара,плюс серьезный графон для того времени.

    Well it's GTA so I liked it, but the port for PC was abysmal. The main character is not as memorable for me as the previous ones, but overall not bad. And let's not forget "Nico, you wanna go bowling?".

    GTA IV is the second GTA game I’ve played, The first being the latest game, GTA V. I loved that game. It was a ton of fun and I still play it a lot to this day. And GTA IV is pretty close to matching it. The story is very good. It is a lot darker than 5, but the missions (except for the last one) are a lot of fun. Sometimes, you are asked to kill someone, and their death will have consequences and it’s hard to remember exactly who they are because there are a lot of missions like that in this game. A quick google search or mission walkthrough thankfully solves that issue. My favorite part of the game was all of the characters. They are all memorable, and I really enjoyed Niko Bellic, the protagonist. The story relies on the characters a lot and it succeeds in that department in flying colors. The gameplay is decent as well. I had heard that the driving was bad, but it was manageable. It’s more realistic I guess but I only had issues with the braking. It took forever for most of the cars to stop. However, the helicopters and especially the bikes had bad controls and I disliked the chase scenes involving them. My biggest issue with this game is the lack of checkpoints. If you fail a mission at any point, you have to do the whole thing again and it is extremely frustrating, especially in the last mission. You would have to do the very long driving sections again as well and they get really long as the game goes along. Sometimes, the game lets you do missions in your own way, which I thought was creative, but sometimes it gets really cheap and makes your target invincible just so you can get to a certain area. I don’t mind linear games, but I kinda wish it was more consistent. The game has a great theme song, although I wanted a full score like 5 had. The graphics and sound design hold up pretty well and to this day. Finally, I played this game on PC. Don’t. It is one of the worst PC ports of all time. I played the 2020 rerelease (the complete edition) and it didn’t fix any problems as far as I’m aware. The game runs poorly even on top end hardware and there are a lot of bugs. The controls are very clunky and can cause you to go to something far away instead of the thing you want to go to which is right in front of you. Combat is fun, but the cover system is pretty bad. There are also 2 huge bugs that completely break the game. One of them causes the game to softlock and get you stuck in a garage unless you skip a cutscene. The other one is in the last mission and you have to lower your framerate through task manager to beat the game. It’s impossible to beat at 60 FPS+ if you don’t do that. Overall, GTA IV is a fantastic game that I enjoyed playing. It has a great story, memorable characters, decent gameplay, and some bad technical issues. Play the game on console if you can.     I started recently playing it after long time and it holds up extremely well. Story is fun enough, there's so many buildings you can go inside and that's huge for 2008 game. Absolute classic.

    Although is was extremely impressed by GTA V, for some reason i always keep going back to GTA IV and i usually play this one way more. I like darker tone of this game, i like story more than V. Story is also longer in this one, V was way too short and last two missions were just meh. Can't believe 2008 game can be that amazing and still be ahead of so many modern games.

    Absolute masterpiece! It's not fair that it has so low score, because it had bad performance back in 2008. Runs perfectly well on every up-to-date system in 2020. Can't believe this map design, everything still holds up so well, even from graphical standpoint.

    Absolute masterpiece by any means possible. Yeah it didn't run well in 2008, but it runs well in 2020 and it holds up wonderfully in terms of graphics, story, gameplay. It was at least 3 years ahead of it's time.

Because I was playing this game in 2020 I didn't experience any problems with the optimization of the game (of course). So if you are thinking about trying it out for the first time or the last time you played it your potato computer couldn't run it properly give it a second chance. The game made an enormous leap from its predecessor (GTA:SA) and even 12 years later still looks decent. The world feels like one of the most elaborated and detailed open worlds in history of video games (I bet in 2008 it was THE MOST elaborated open world). The character of Niko Bellic feels real and relatable, though the other characters in the game (besides Roman) have some space for improvement (many of them really felt like they all are made of the same **** material). Many of the main story missions would be better off as side quests because often they didn't add anything to the main plot and existed only for the sake of extending the playing time. Though I can't say they were repetitive - each mission tried to be unique in its own way (the emphasis is on the word "tried"). What I am not a fan of is the radio. The playlist there is quite uninspired. There were only few songs I really enjoyed while driving through Liberty City but it is nitpicking and hey, you can create a playlist of your own (what I eventually ended up NOT doing).… Expand

    Awesome game but it has a game breaking issue, at the last mission, the one with the helicopter where you have to tap space to climb...Rockstart did not bother to fix that...so it's a BIG ZERO from me...if I can't finish the game then ZERO it's what it gets...I liked it but IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE A GAME BREAKING ISSUE in the final version...

Even the recent GTA V is no match to this in terms of game physics. It has proper torque for car doors(shooting bullets at a different distance will give different results unlike GTA V)    Great game.

    El mundo se siente más vivo que en ningún GTA, los personajes dejan de ser NPCS y son personas que quieren quedar contigo para comer, ver cosas o jugar mientras te hablan de como se sienten como están o como les va la vida, mantienes una relación con aquellas personas que conoces, puedes quedar con ellas, pedirles favores o consejo mientras haces una misión.

    Es absurdo la cantidad de opciones que tienes en el juego para hacer cosas o interactuar con personajes, simplemente con decirte que cada misión tiene 2 conversaciones distintas mientras vas de punto A y B, de modo que si se da el caso de que mueres y tienes que repetirla no vuelves a escuchar la misma conversación otra vez. Y esto se aplica a absolutamente todo lo cual es una locura, pero hace que se sienta natural y vivo, lo cual es muy difícil de hacer en un juego de esta escala.

    Es cierto que en la conducción tal vez intentaron hacerla "demasiado realista" haciendo que muchos vehículos sean muy jodidos de llevar cuando en otras entregas eran fáciles y divertidos, pero no encontraras nada que no te puedas acostumbrar.

    Uno de los mejores GTA´s que hay ahora mismo, aunque se entiende que a mucha gente que solo quería hacer el cabra no le guste.    … Expand

    Годная часть гташки, мрачная, серая, очень атмосферная. Визуал на высоте и до сих пор смотрится нормально, история Нико была интересной и трагичной, да и геймплей не просел относительно других частей.

Вечно орущие люди, когда ты чутка дал газу или дрифтанул в километре от них, это очень сильно раздражает. Посредственные миссии, такое ощущение что реально игра просто "Hitman", но беда в том, что наш главный герой не дресированный агент или выращен из пробирки с лучшими генами, а ще не лысый, а обычный вояка, который приехал в страну за лучшим будущим и к своему любимому Брату Роману.
    Полиция, тоже отдельное разочарование этой игры, такое ощущение что ее тут просто нет, ну то есть, есть копы и спецназ на этом все, если в той же "GTA:SA" и "GTA V" есть армия и тебя грубо говоря "Ебашат со всего", то здесь 4 звезды = 6 звезд, поэтому RockStar, когда перевыпустили игру добавив в нее ачивки, сделали ачивку уйдите при розыске в 4 звезды, а не 6, потому что ничего координально не меняется вообще.
    Итог
    Игра получилась спорной, после перевыпуска у многих начались с ней проблемы, я уже не помню когда-то давно в нее играл, но перепройдя ее сейчас было тяжело играть, особенно в моментах ,когда игра при железе которое 3 такие игры тянет, она работает с перебоями от 30 до 60 ФПС, но без вертикальной синхронизации играть прям глаза режет, да и так картина то не особо и меняться 7 Рузге палец из 10.    … Expand

    Juego que disfruté en PS3, en PC se disfruta también por sus posibilidades como los mods pero no por su mala optimización, y yo personalmente lo disfruté más en PS3. El modo historia está bien, ya que se centraron en esto y sus físicas estaban adelantadas a su época. No lo recomiendo por su mala optimización y porque vale 20 euros a día de hoy, yo pillé una key, y para los años que tieneJuego que disfruté en PS3, en PC se disfruta también por sus posibilidades como los mods pero no por su mala optimización, y yo personalmente lo disfruté más en PS3.     Техническая сторона порта не дала насладиться игрой на момент выхода. Из плюсов, отличная физика, хорошее радио, отличный город и симуляция. Сюжет скучный и растянутый, цветовая гамма навевает тоску.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'd say that GTA IV truly has the best story of all GTA games. Yes, even GTA SA. Let's be fair here, GTA SA's story is great but it is far from a masterpiece,in fact oftentimes CJ pulls off insane stunts which make the entire game feel kind of pointless sometimes, like if CJ can literally enter the most secure place on planet Earth (Area 69) and massacre a bunch of soldiers, steal a $60 000 000 jetpack and literally GET AWAY with it, and can quite literally break the laws of physics during the mission "Freefall" (hijacking a plane MID AIR is pretty much impossible, especially in the **** way CJ does it), what's stopping him from just killing Pulaski and Tenpenny when he meets them? True, Tenpenny did warn CJ not to harm them or else Sweet would die, but Toreno tells CJ that Sweet is "In prison up state, D wing, cell 13", so why doesn't he just break his brother out of jail? Etc. etc., there are plenty of more errors and plot holes that make the entire story of GTA SA kinda overrated.

    Woah, enough of ranting about GTA SA, let's get back to GTA 4. GTA 4 has an amazing story; Niko Bellic (Niko Belić in serbian) is an illegal immigrant trying to escape his unfortunate dark past and seek the american dream alongside his cousin Roman, only to find out that the american dream is a lie and that he, as a criminal can never just "walk off into the sunset" and just quit the criminal game because he wants to. The story is crafted masterfully, and when taking the other two GTA 4 games (TLaD and TBoGT) these three games make up one giant masterpiece of a story, trully Rockstar's magnum opus in GTA storytelling. The music is also well done, the physics are literally better than GTA 5 (most of that can be observed through minor details, such as the apparent absence of torque physics in GTA 5 during certain situations), the gameplay, especially the shooting mechanics are a step forward from GTA SA, however that being said, the game itself doesn't have much going on in it except for the story, and most of the missions of the game follow the following formula:
    1. Niko meets his mission boss
    2. His mission boss tells him that some random character has wronged him somehow
    3. Niko finds out where said random character lives through various methods, though most times he is simply told that by the mission boss.
    4. Niko goes to the place.
    5. A shootout ensues, where Niko kills the target.
    6. Repeat.
    This formula makes up, I'd say, 90% of all GTA 4's missions, maybe even more. Though despite that, most of those missions are fun just because of the simply fun combat mechanics in the game and the utilization of physics. Still, despite that, it seems that in order to be more gritty and realistic than GTA SA, GTA IV had to sacrifice much of the fun that you would have by playing GTA SA. Taking all of that into consideration, I give GTA 4 a 9/10 rating, and I consider it the best GTA game to date.    … Expand

The game ran at about ~40FPS on medium settings at 1024x768 resolution on my C2D E6600 2.4GHz 2GB DDR2 Quadro 410, but I faced serious stuttering.     I really liked the driving and cover system of this game, which were refreshing after playing the same styled GTA's for the previous 7 years. The story was okay but it never was appealing to me to finish it as GTA V's story is, but still, its a great story. I recently got the game again for my modern PC, and still wasn't able to finish it (probably due to me being busy with GTA V).

    Overall this game is 7/10, but I won't recommend it to people who have little to no patience as this game still has performance and optimization issues on modern PC's. I would suggest downloading community based patches to improve your experience. But to people who want to experience a good open world game with realistic driving, I'd recommend it.    … Expand

    Nice game with a good storyline. Interesting drama. The developers for the first time decided to abandon one ending, which I think is the right choice. I can not call this game a masterpiece. Yes, I liked her, this is a breakthrough for her time, but she is not good enough for me. In addition, she has poor optimization.
