It is a damned good game by all measures with addictive gameplay, catchy music, a great art style, and just the right amount of challenge. If you're looking for your next favorite roguelike platformer, look no further.

The frequent deaths will turn off many, and it will take a lot of time to properly master the game. But for those who persevere, GoNNER is a rewarding, challenging experience that is a blast to play.

Gonner delivers a roguelike that new comers to the genre can enjoy while the more experienced player will find a charming and different take on the subject.

Fun and frantic, with plenty of challenge. GoNNER is weird and beautiful, despite its lack of depth.

Gonner is a single gameplay mechanic away from being a fantastic run & gun roguelike, and if you don’t mind passing up a set of options, that problem can be ignored. It has a wonderful aesthetic, blending cute and cartoon-creepy, rendered in a unique art style that does a wonderful job of tying all the elements together.

  1. GoNNER is this year’s Downwell – a neat, short-form action game that has found the perfect visual style to communicate its near-misses and big hits. Whether you want to show off by pushing its systems to the limits or play at a more relaxed and careful pace, basking in the gorgeous music, it’s an absolute delight.

The graphical design is based on flashy, epileptic colors that change as you perform combos. Gave me headaches once or twice...

For the rest, the game is a demanding, die-and-retry, nervous roguelike that requires quite some reflexes. The gameplay in itself is simple but enjoyable, though it will only appeal to those who like challenge. Since I am generally more of the contemplative kind, there is not much there for me to enjoy.

All you get for con trolls is what looks like a keyboard or controller drawn in ms paint with some areas highlighted vague enough for you to be like OK what key is that. If the game actually told you what button to press that would be nice. that major failure of the tutorial gets this game a three. That one down fall 100% kills this game for me. The main thing any game should have is some thing that tells you what button does what. Not a vague hey push a button in this area of your keyboard. Full Review »
