Even the gacha aspect is just fine imo, but these god forsaken croissants just had to be implemented to ruin your experience past a certain level. If you want to play just the story then drop the game, you'll have a nice and enjoyable experience. However if you decide to take it to the next level, you'd better have your wallet nearby or be insanely patient. So much potential wasted just makes my blood boil, this is really infuriating. I hope nothing but the worst for this company devoted to develop well designed games behind the thickest pay walls I have ever seen. Expand

Sure, the game is fun if not amazing for the first 2 weeks, but sooner or later, you are going to hit a wall when it comes to progression, being able to play the game for only 15-20 minutes a day because of "Resin", the energy system of this game and also the reason for it’s downfall. If you’re playing the game as F2P, you’re pretty much screwed, since the only way to refill Resin in this game is to either wait a whole 16 hours for it to completely refill (As i said, it takes 15-20 min to use it all up BTW) or use primogems to instantly refill it, which can be bought with real life currency. This is what i meant when i said that you’re screwed as a F2P player. It doesnt help that MiHoYo doesn’t give a damn about it’s playerbase, saying that they will respond to player feedback by changing the Resin cap from 120 to 160. Now this might seem like a good thing, but it’s really not. It will still take 8 minutes to recharge 1 resin, whether the resin cap was 120 or 160. To put it more simply, the playerbase asked for more water but instead got a larger bowl.

In conclusion, stay away from this game, at least until they overhaul the resin system, which i doubt will hapen.

This game is beautiful, has a great combat system, interesting characters, abilities, the story is interesting and makes me want to learn more. Now i bet you're thinking, whats the problem? The problem is that once you have gone through this Open World Action RPGs storyline and even slightly before. This game ABRUPTLY stops you from any real progression. The majority of games you play that are open world action RPGs allow you to play and progress to your hearts content. But Genshin forcefully stops you from being able to make any real progression with a system called "resin". Aside from the fact that it has the oh so well known Scummy Gacha gambling system. It also prevents you from doing any important progression parts of the game, which all require Resin, to be able to collect the rewards. It stacks up to weeks upon weeks, just to be able to use a single character that you might have paid hundreds of dollars or more to get through the aforementioned Gacha system. This game has a lot of potential. But without some serious Overhauls to the games mid-endgame gatekeeping. Only allowing you to make any real progress for maybe 15 minutes a day. I would recommend you look elsewhere. Expand

Once you've done those two things, which you can do in the span of a week of after-work play, Mihoyo's idea of endgame amounts to a daily 20-30 minute grind, limited by a horrible gacha-game stamina/energy system (called Resin System in GI) aimed at incentivising you to pay money to reduce the necessary grind OR buy more stamina to enable the grind. Even among gacha games, which this is to it's core, it's bad. Never before have I played a gacha game with an stamina/energy system this restricting, and I've played my fair share of them, including the notorious F/GO.

Not only is the energy/stamina system one of the worst, if not THE worst, among it's peers, it also boasts some of the all-time worst rates for the gacha component. A laughable 0.6% chance to get a 5* unit. Again, F/GO is infamous for it's horrible rate of 5* characters and that game has nearly TWICE the chance of getting one such character at a 1% rate.

Once the honeymoon phase wears of (the 8-10 out of 10 game score phase) so do the rewards for actually playing the game. You simply don't get any premium currency anymore. Playing normally, no events, no login rewards, you get 1/3 of a summon each day. To get a guaranteed 4* (not 5*!) you need 10 of those summons.
To get a guaranteed 5* you need 90.

"But hold on, what about the events!" I hear you say. "Surely the events make up for the lack of daily things to do!" No. The event rewards are pathetically low. The gameplay of the events is boring and repetitive. And the events cost stamina/resin/energy. So if you want all the rewards from the events you need to use your resin, which means you can't do anything else that day!

Co-Op is underwhelming at best and non-existent at worst. I can't explore with my friends because I can't open chests or do side-quests while in their world. Sure, I can do the boring and repetitive events with them, which makes them somewhat more bearable, but that shouldn't be the point of playing with friends. Co-Op feels like it was only shoehorned in at the last second because people assumed it was going to be in and Mihoyo didn't want to deny it in fear of damaging their marketing campaign.

The core game itself is fun and I'd like to play more of it, preferably with my friends. The game activally gates me from doing the former and isn't build to do the latter. It's made to look nice, shiny, inviting, wholesome and fun, but underneath the hood it tries it's very damndest to get you addicted so you spend your money for towards its predatory practice.

I enjoy the gameplay very much, but the greed of the cash shop and mechanics will kill the game off. The resin system which heavily limits progression is, honestly, offensive. The recent response to resin complaints and their planned change is pointless and does nothing to address the issue that you get too little of it to do any significant progression.

Now I have to say the existence of the resin system itself is not the problem, but the fact that it so aggressively hinder your progress. This game require a lot of grinding, either for character exp, character limit break material, gold (or Mora in this game), character talent up material, weapon upgrade material, artifact which themselves has RNG drop AND substats decided by RNG. Tons of resource which you need for EACH character you want to invest to (and you want at least 8 properly geared characters for the endgame), all require resin just to farm at all. With the pitiful amount of resin available you get at best 1 hour of playtime each day, which is not too bad for a mobile game, but Genshin impact clearly strive to be something more. There is a beautiful open-world in this game but the resin system discourage me for immersing in it, and I don't feel like spending on getting new character because I can't properly levelling them up anyway.
I would probably stick around with this game hoping for eventual fix to the resin system, but definitely would recommend it to anyone, or spending anymore money on it.

THE GAME IS NOT ONLY PAY TO WIN BUT ALSO PAY TO WAIT thanks to the most atrocious stamina system that you can see in smartphone games, even whales can't play the game... While also being a gacha with LOOTBOXES having the LOWEST DROP RATE for something good in the whole gacha genre. Being a gacha means that you must spend thousands upon thousands of dollars trying getting the character you want, but wait, there is more. To get the character's full potential you need to pull it from the gacha SIX TIMES, but not only that, you have to level it up to max level, right? Too bad the monsters always give 12-20 experience so you will need to kill thousands to get just ONE LEVEL. Oh, but wait, there is something called experience books that level up your character in no time, well, that would be perfect if you could have them because you run low on them everytime, AND, you also need Mora, a currency that is surprisingly used in ANY aspect of the game so you WILL also run low on Mora, hell, I'm surprised they don't charge you Mora for walking, but you what is worse? You can't farm those resources because you need resin to get them, yes, the stamina system that sets up artificial walls for you to stop playing the game. And you know what is worse? Apart from the whole system of stamina/energy by itself? You have to wait EIGHT MINUTES TO RECHARGE ONE POINT, IT'S CAPPED AT 120... But wait, in 1.1 they will increase the cap to 160 :)... TOO BAD THE RECHARGE BEING 8 MINUTES FOR 1 POINT OF RESIN MEANS THAT YOU, ME AND ALL PLAYERS THAT PLAY DAILY WILL NEVER REACH THE CAP, THIS ONLY SHOWS HOW BRAINDEAD THE DEVELOPERS ARE, THEY DON'T LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY AT ALL, THEY EVEN NERFED REROLLING 3 TIMES, AND LET'S NOT FORGET THAT YOU HAVE TO SPEND 20 TO EVEN 60 RESIN PER DUNGEON, AND LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT DUNGEONS, THEY OFFER YOU ENJOYMENT FOR 15 MINUTES UNTIL RESIN GOES TO ZERO, AND THERE ARE ALSO TWO DUNGEONS THAT OFFER YOU THE BEST EQUIPMENT BUT YOU CAN ONLY DO THEM ONCE A WEEK AND THEY REQUIRE 60 RESIN. Oh, but wait, you can refill resin with primogems!! WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD PAY 15 DOLLARS TO RECHARGE RESIN SO THAT THEY COULD PLAY LIKE 5 MORE MINUTES?
The dungeons give you materials for your character "ascension" to make them stronger by leveling them up, leveling up their weapons or leveling up their skills, this wouldn't be a problem but LEVELING JUST ONE CHARACTER TO MAX STATS TAKES YOU 22 DAYS OF FULL FARM WAITING FOR RESIN REFILLS, GRINDING EXP BOOKS, MORA, ASCENSION MATERIALS, WEAPON MATERIALS, TALENT BOOKS MATERIALS... IT'S TOO MUCH GRIND FOR A GAME THAT SHOULD BE ENCOURAGING YOU TO GET NEW CHARACTERS.
Hell, this game was good when it launched, you get to explore a new world full of things to do, places to explore, quests to complete... It was a game so good that I even felt bad for it being a free to play. Those were the good times in low Adventure Rank 1-30. But when the story and side quests end you face the reality, the game you have been playing is empty, there is no end-game content, and if it does have end game content it is extremely difficult to achieve because it requires you to have TWO FULL TEAMS OF FOUR MAX LEVELED CHARACTERS TO COMPLETE, DO THE MATH.
The game has NO LOGIN SYSTEM, FOR LOGGING IN YOU GET NOTHING whereas other gacha games offer a free 1 pull a day. Did I mention the lowest rates?? But wait, you can buy a "Blessing of the welkin moon" for 5 dollars to receive 3k primogems along 30 days!! Too bad that gives you 90 primogems, and you need 160 for 1 pull.
Also, coop sucks and the frames are capped at 60.
In conclusion: this game will die sooner or later because not even whales can play and if they did and they removed resin, they will take a long time of no-life grinding anyway so... If you read this far and thought about playing this game, just don't, or just play it for the story quests and drop it.
I'm not going to ever play a game of this company anymore and you should do the same.

There have been a lot of complaints about it, be it CN players or global players... They said that they have listened to our voice, but guess what? Instead of increasing the rate of resin regen, we get increased resin cap instead!? We asked for more water but given bigger cup?? How does that make sense? If we are not getting an increase in regen rate then bigger cap does not change anything. Previously we need to log in twice a day, burn resin in 10 minutes for trash items and log out, now they give us a QoL that is you only need to log in once a day, burn your resin in 10 mins and don't bother play the game again until the next day at the same day time. This is the problem of endgame players with slow content updates from developers, until they truly listened to players' voice, this review stands at 0 rating! Expand

The quests abrubtly stop with no resolution The world is empty once you solve the puzzles and collect the chests (chests don’t respawn despite earlier popular belief they do, confirmed but the company)

The resin system dictates every aspect of character progression to around between 3 to 15 minutes gameplay per 16 hour period. In a game with a combat system that promotes party composition diversity and multiple set ups you cannot level more than 3 characters due to lack of resources.

Even then the resin system is not for time gating either. Given you can pay $15 A DAY. To triple your daily allocation of resin. And the fact that later character upgrade materials are locked behind bosses that have weekly lockouts who have a CHANCE to drop those materials.

Then to top it off with global communities complaining about this, content creators, whales and f2p alike the devs simply raise the cap of resin (not offer more) so instead of 16 hours to regenerate 120 it’s now 21 hours to regen 160. The company is so out of touch with a) the community b) the console and PC market c) the western playerbase it’s actually a joke.

    1. Want one of the new characters or weapons? The only way to get characters and weapons are to spend on average $180 for enough LOOTBOXES to get a random 5* character or weapon. Repeat this till you get it fully powered, this takes seven copies of a character and five of a weapon. New stuff, for the most part, are their 5* rarity, the drop chance is 1/167 gambles but you are guaranteed to get one by the 90th gamble. This is also how you get any decent weapon in the game, which competes against getting a character as well. A new character is, so far, released monthly.

    2. Want to make meaningful progress for more than an hour a day? That will be up to $10 a DAY to progress for an extra couple hours.

    3. Sold your car to finally get that character you want? Please see the above transactions, stop progress on everything else, and wait a month for random weekly drops to make them playable compared to your older characters.

    4. So, you can't get materials or new stuff, so doing the staple of any RPG and kill monsters in the game's beautiful world? Have fun roaming a landscape devoid of rewards and punching bags that fall over after being sneezed on and don't even grant you enough character experience or in-game currency to be worth looking at. You need millions while monsters give you on average 15.

    5. The most recent announcement to fix some of the issues is to increase the total amount of stamina a player can have at any one time, which is used to make meaningful progress. While this looks good at first, it does nothing as the rate at which stamina regenerates was untouched. They're giving us a bigger cup when there isn't enough water pouring in to fill the smaller cup.

Not to even mention the feedback of Closed Beta Test players on the issue of the Resin System

You grinded your Adventure Rank because you want to level up your characters? Well here's a giant wall to block your progress from obtaining anything and only allow you to play ~10 min per day. The world becomes a desolate wasteland as chests do not "re"-spawn and there is literally nothing to do. Even the chests give a measly amount of primogems are garbage loot, so it feels like you are a "garbage collector" (term used from Chinese forums) when you are chest hunting.

Now lets talk gacha. 0.6% chance to get a 5*, with 90 rolls being the pity timer. Lets do the math shall we? 90 * 160 = 14,400 primogems. Pure free to play players, once reaching the end-game, will only have daily commissions as a steady source of gems (Spiral Abyss doesn't count, the refreshable reward levels are just flexing grounds for whales, have fun fighting lvl 100 enemies on Floor 12), which ends up being a measly 60 primogems per day. A lack of a permanent login reward system also hurts this further. It will take 14,400 / 60 = 240 DAYS FOR A F2P TO GET TO PITY WITH ONLY DAILY COMMISSIONS. Also that 0.6% summon rate is a joke, Chinese players made a joke already of spontaneous car glass exploding at 0.3% and that we should be happy its twice the rate. Now imagine you hit pity on the permanent banner. Well, there's now a near 50/50 chance of getting a weapon instead of a character. Now let's get this straight. 5* weapons are nice but they just can't compare to characters. What use is a 5* weapon when you don't even have a character to equip it to? What a joke.

Now some may say, "other "gacha" games started out with poor systems as well, just wait for Mihoyo to improve with QoL changes!". Well first of all, Genshin Impact isn't supposed to be a gacha game. It was supposed to appeal to the global audience, including PC/Console players and not JUST mobile players. Can't wait for Cyberpunk to be released and have the entire PC/Console playerbase die out! (Sarcasm, but the reality of this happening is not very unlikely). Secondly, this isn't even Mihoyo's first "gacha" game. It has a terrible system even considered in today's "gacha" games, and Mihoyo isn't stupid. They already have experience with Honkai Impact 3 (Which I heard they improved drastically in terms of QoL changes), so what does this mean? THIS MEANS THAT MIHOYO IS DOING THIS ON PURPOSE. The reason for this is unknown. Thoughts of mine on this are they want to do a cash-grab approach and try to keep the player base with freebies once the hype starts dying down.

Now you can dispute my opinions if you wish. Not everyone plays this game in a grindy way, and some enjoy playing it slow-paced and don't experience this problem. BUT please, just respect other people's opinions on this game. We are trying to improve the game, it's not like we're just scummy people to Mihoyo for no reason. The countless amount of "white knights" I see on Twitter, Reddit, and the official forums is baffling. It's like they either are bots or just can't read.

If you made it this far into my review, congrats. Genshin Impact has a chance to make history as a game with record-breaking numbers. Don't get me wrong, there are aspects of this game I enjoy, such as the story, characters, and the music (it's amazing, trust me, especially the Liyue soundtrack).

Please don't screw this up Mihoyo. Please listen to your playerbase. I would rather see this game succeed and just die out as a laughingstock.

Its like lottery which is normally regulated by agencies that regulate gambling. Login rewards. Like so many other mobile games, but definitely unsuited for this type of game.

Progression are locked behind map exploration and mini quests like that of guild wars 2. But in guild wars 2 map exploration is purely optional. Very very slow movement speeds to make sure you can't progress quickly.

Flying is exactly the same as guild wars 2, even the rate of decline and updraft mechanic, they work and look essentially the same. I can understand the game choosing a climb and glide gameplay, but the way gliding is done just tells you that its a straight up copy and it is done to restrict movement and slow game progression.

    Conclusion:

Largely a copycat with different skin challenging the originals. Could have been top game if done properly. End game maybe better but it will take too long to get there. Something that's ok for casual relaxation. May change with game updates.

    4. Free to play, but pay for satisfaction. A 0.6% Gocha rate for a random 5-start is only a little better than winning a lottery ticket.

    5. Please take care of more of your valuable money and gamer life. stay away from sh!tty games like this, horse excrement may better than it. Hope this review will help. :D

Beginning of the game is truly amazing. It's sad to see that the game is neglected during adventure rank 30+. It feels more like a chore or a task than a game. I truly hope that the company will see it's issues and fix the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Genshin Impact starts out unbelievably entertaining and exciting. It's so easy to get hooked and spend hours playing. You get to meet delightful and endearing characters that you would want to be able to play with and level up. It's seemed a little too easy to ascend them all at first. You could easily believe that the game will be consistent in impressing you.

You don't really mind investing resources, thinking the game will be generous to let you grind out upgrade materials because it's a no-brainer, people not only want to pull a character just so they could collect them.

Early on, it’s easy to think like it's a great idea to pull as many characters as you can only to hit a certain Adventure Rank level to realize that you shouldn't have invested in all the characters you got from pulls. Why? Their stamina system, namely Resin, is a heavy time-gate. How much resin you can get is how fast you'll advance. Resin will force you to prioritize building characters that you will need to advance further. What I don't understand is that Resin can indirectly discourage players from spending on pulls, because more characters, more items, that need to be upgraded to become relevant in your current World Level.

Resin takes a whopping 16 hours to fully regenerate to the max capacity, but it just takes 2 weekly bosses to spend it all, or 3 Elite Bosses, or 6 domain runs. Resin is so heavy on time-gating players that it takes too long to regenerate, collecting rewards cost too much resin and there are too many Resin sinks. It does not scale in any way with your Adventure Rank. Meanwhile, the resin costs scale up, because higher AR means more access to resin sinks. The materials required to ascend and to level up not only scale up, but it also skyrockets!

After you happily blaze through all the quests currently available, what’s left are daily commissions and a few world quests with rewards that do not scale up. Doing meaningful activities that push your progress forward becomes mind-numbingly slow.

What do players do without resin? Some are smart and start planing out and getting materials that do not require Resin to collect and open chests that they find along the way. But the more frequently you explore, the emptier and baren the world becomes.

Genshin Impact is just a recently released game so I am hopeful that it will improve to keep the player base invested. While I am truly infuriated by Resin, I am still excited to see how miHoYo will expand the world that is Teyvat.

Would be a good game but the problems all start at AR 30-35 where the game becomes a chore and you have to wait for resin which is the stamina system that cripples the game.

The game is good, the combat action is fun, the map is beautiful and it has a cool BGM. However the creators decided to lock the content from the players with the resin system.

Every single monetization is predatory in this starting with abyssmal gacha rates, out right malicious resin system, the extreme limitations on currency and how everyone of them is tied to the resin again . Even if you roll new characters it is pointless cuz u will never have resources to anything with them.I wonder how many of these so called critics that are supposed to supposed to play the game first before reviewing actually did it, how the hell does anyone even give it 5 much less an 8 for the systems in place. Let's talk Genshin. A game that spent several months in Closed Betas, where Mihoyo had the chance to listen to the criticisms of the many beta testers who participated. They complained about the Resin system being too restrictive, as well as the Wish System being too unforgiving with its 0.6% rate for 5 star units/weapons (yes, when you pull a 5 star, you can get a weapon instead of a unit. Who thought this was a good idea? What did Mihoyo do? Simply ignore all those criticisms and release a game out into the wild jungle of the Internet hoping to catch players in its revenue net with its attractive visuals and characters. They throw wishes/summon currency at you in the beginning to give you a small taste of their in-game gambling system to rope you and your credit card into the game.

Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy playing this game for a time. I loved the character design, the pretty visuals of the map, as well as the story. Hell, I even thought the music score was done fantastically. But when you get pulled in, then you will realize what a trap this game is, and how incomplete it is.

Good video game companies start with listening to feedback from its players. Only time will tell if Mihoyo decides to make Genshin a simple cash grab or a masterpiece of a video game.

However, at the end of the day, it is still a gacha game with abysmal rates as well as extremely expensive rolls (avg $2 USD per roll). Right now a lot of players aren’t complaining about this because of the games honeymoon phase but this is detrimental to F2P player base months down the road if Mihoyo doesn’t address this issue.

Now to address the resin issue. For starters, you can’t even finish the weekly resin usage missions on the battle pass without spending primogems or fragile resin to refresh. What kind of joke is this if you’ve bought the battle pass? It’s like paying $10 for the pass, then requiring to spend extra resources/money just to complete the pass. 8 min per 1 resin capped at 120 is a ridiculously low cap and slow regeneration rate even for a gacha game. At least in Fate Grand Order they allow you to raise your cap through levels and let you stack a lot of energy regen materials like golden apples for events for free.

After AR30, the game becomes super dry in terms of content, I just log in, do dailies, use up resin for 20 min, and just log off. I think this problem will be resolved once new content gets released, but is also a byproduct of the poorly designed resin system.

I really hope Mihoyo listens to players criticism and feedback. Like I said, this game has great potential, and I want to see it succeed, but this starts with communication and cooperation between the developer and player base.

I give it 1/10 out of respect for the amazing art/music in this game. But the core gameplay system is just straight up terrible

A really, really awesome F2P game, been playing this game non-stop since launch, here's my two cents about this game:

Pros: 1. Non-competitive F2P, which means you can spend money if you'd like, but there's no harm in playing it completely free. 2. Beautiful graphics on PC, 60fps, unlike on PS4 3. Controlled progress, they use resin system to limit your progress. This is really good

    4. Addictive, there's TONS of contents inside this game, which could take weeks to complete if you're a casual gamer. I've always found myself lost in the world doing a lot of different stuffs.
    5. Waifus

    Cons:
    1. No custom key binding --> hope they fix this in future updates
    2. Artifact enhancement is not really optimized (cannot see what artifact are we sacrificing)
    3. No equipment lock
    4. Monster variation is limited

Overall this is a pretty solid game, and there's none other game similar to Genshin Impact. There's still a lot of room for improvement, hope they listen to us and make it even better!

Not only does it force you to smash into a paywall as soon as you are addicted - and believe me they do everything they can to achieve that- but also changes the genre from entertaining to boring at the same time, so even if you do pay, it's not going to be fun. Buy hey, if you already paid 10 thousand dollars for the characters you like as it literally is that expensive, paying a hundred dollars every day to be allowed to kill another 500 of the same slime monsters in a single room "dungeon" is worth it because then you don't have to admit you have been scammed and the open world game was a lie.

For a F2P game, this is one of the best I have ever played. Not all is good though. The resing system (the timer) has issues and needs to be evaluated. There is not much content for the endgame portion, once you hit Adventure Level 35 you can feel there is a wall that you won't be able to surpass even if you spend some money in terms of content. The game is only one-month-old so I think this won't be an issue in the long run and I expect this to be solved with future updates. I'm more worried about the problems with the resin system, which can fixed easily, but I don't know if Mihoyo is willing to. They already got their money back, what if they just want to keep making money the same way they are making it right now? I'm not very hopeful about changes to the resing system and this could destroy the game in the short run. For now, it is good enough.

You are very likely to not get what you want. The game is not f2p friendly by any means. The main story won't take you long to beat. Even if you decide to put $60 which is equivalent to a AAA game, it will not get you much. The rate that you earn in-game currency to try to earn another character is abysmal after level 30. As a single-player game, it's great to float around and explore the map. However, the best/better weapons and characters are locked behind a THICK paywall. I can not emphasize this enough. Each character feels unique and offers very different things to the team that you build. Which is an excellent feature that would be better if you could actually unlock characters at a decent rate. The only hope you have as a f2p or AAA spender to get an upgraded team is by dumb luck. This game was designed only to appease whales. If you have $700+ to blow on nothing else, then by all means go for it. But as it stands, I have seen content creators blow $5k to get what they wanted. The rewards are given to you as a f2p is only what you get for the first 20 levels after that expect to not get anything. If you grind every day for 7 days a week you should be able to get a 4* once a week. Once you have finished the first Act there is literally nothing but grinding that requires extra grinding to grind. I.E. the materials you need to level characters/weapons typically require you to use resin. You have a max resin of 120. It recharges at an abysmal rate. In one day if you play early in the morning and then later at night you should be able to spend about 160 resin in a day. This isn't enough daily to grind through to level weapons/characters unless of course, you spend that sweet in-game currency which is your only hope to acquire new characters. If you want one of those sweet 5* characters, as a f2p kiss that dream goodbye. You need 90 wishes to get one. Unless your stupid lucky that one time. Let's break this down, you get a 4* after 10 wishes, as a f2p you can get this once a week if you grind diligently every day. That means after 2 months you get to open a 5*. Updates with new characters are expected at this time period. They promised that there will be free events that will give rewards. This past event only gave 2 free wishes. This was factored into the average wishes per week. After level 40 you can kiss this sweet average goodbye. You will receive wishes based on chests which net you 1 - 5 gems, you need 160 for one wish. Daily missions can net you 40 gems. In-game rewards vary but will come to a roaring halt after level 40. I will revise my review if MiHoYo fixes the resin system and the rate to acquire primogems. I propose that they give more rewards for events, dailies, and more goals. I propose that with daily and heavy grinding a f2p player should be able to open a 5* once a month. With weapons needing 5 copies to max level and 6 copies of a character to max level, getting a 5* once a month should seem reasonable. They do offer a character banner that you can get a guaranteed 5* after the 2nd pity. Which is after 180 wishes. If they are changing the banner 1 - 2 months, as a f2p you are very likely to never hit the pity for the character you want, even when it's "guaranteed". If you are just looking for a quick f2p rpg that has plenty of exploration and a decent albeit generic story this is a great game. I would give it an 8. But since it throws the other characters and weapons behind a paywall that is nearly impossible unless you whale it out, it gets very generous 4. I hope they change it so it is more rewarding for the f2p and at the VERY least for those who decided to put some $$$ get more bang for their buck. Whales don't even need to be considered as they will throw as much $$$ as they can and won't need the content.

As of right now, it seems like whales are going to plunge in more money. The company could care less for f2p. If you want to spend money, don't spend more than a AAA game as you will not receive ANYTHING close to what you should. The company is not going to reward players as long as people keep dropping paychecks every update. If you have the thousands to spend on this game, by all means go for it. But if your not ready to game hundreds of $$ don't waste your time or money.

    - World is empty, even though it feels and looks amazing at the start when you're doing chapter 1 and 2 of the main story, there are interesting characters, but after that you're gated with adventure level, keep doing dailies and wait for your level to go up.. Or go spend the money and buy yourself some resin so you can level up faster. There are few types of puzzles all over the map, after completing you will get a chest with useless weapons and currency.

    - Wishes, of as it is better know - gatcha system, greedy, totally killed experience of the game, Don't get me wrong, I played few gatcha games and they were fun and I willingly put some money into them, but this game just doesn't value your money. Chance for getting a 5* star character are lower that 1%... Are you serious? They are expecting 100$+ from each player. Oh, you're not paying, or you're not paying enough? - No good characters/weapons for you.
Other gatcha games at least give you some "premium" currency so you can accumulate it and go for pulls. But this game gives you 5 currency for every achivement, and you will be saving up a week to do one 10-pull (which costs 1600). And you will get same ****, like you're opening common chests all over the map.

    - Combat system is okay, i like the element mechanic.

All in all, pay-to-win, don't bother if you're not planning to throw some $$$ every few days. Biggest gaming let-down of 2020. Not coming back.

Genshin is an ARPG open world game with an interesting combat system that feels fun with different elements and really grabs your attention when you first start playing. However, there are quite a few problems with this game. First one being the lowest rates for 5* characters out of any Gacha game I have ever seen, 0.6% to be exact. Your chances of getting the character you actually want are absurdly low. There are content creators who have spent thousands and still haven't gotten the character they want. You need to pull 90 times to get a guaranteed pity and it's only guaranteed to be a 5* character if it's on a special rate up banner for characters, otherwise you could potentially get a weapon. You need around 14,400 primos just to land that pity which is more than $100 on their store. Pricing is very greedy and the rates are very stingy...but it doesn't stop there.

In the beginning of the game you hardly notice the energy system or much less care because you're busy exploring, doing quests, and finding chests among other things. Once you've done all that and hit around Adventure Rank 30 character upgrades such as ascension, leveling, and even talent books start to become a real problem because you run out of either Mora (money or credits in the game you get in game), exp books, or materials really quickly. So how do you get more?

Enter Resin. Probably one of if not the worst implementation of an energy system I have ever seen in any gacha type game. You have to use your pool of 120/120 energy (resin) to try and get a few of some of the materials/money you need for character progression. At this point of the game progression slows down tremendously. All activities that help with your progression are gated by this energy system and not in a good way. Costs to claim rewards from these activities such as leylines/domains/world bosses can range anywhere from 20-60 resin per activity even though some of them are already restricted by being available one time for a whole week, not to mention Resin regenerates at a snail's pace. About 16 hours for a full recharge.

That being said you need lots to level up a character and make them strong but you are limited in how much you can do per day unless you spend primos (banner rolling currency-premium currency)/fragile resin/ or really money to get more primos to spend for only 60 resin. This isn't even taking into account weapons or artifact leveling which is also gated by Resin. Players have to make a choice each day about how they will spend their resin and as certain domains change what they give you each day based on a schedule it really make the player feel pressured from this energy system and not rewarded for using it except by not letting it go to waste.

MiHoYo also has not said a publicy let alone addressed this issue in-game even though it is a pressing matter to change the resin system to a lot of players, MiHoYo stays silent and refuses to acknowledge this problem. If they don't make meaningful changes to this system, lots of players, including myself are going to drop this game one for better ones in the coming months.

(Perhaps a ghoul was keeping my CPU cool) This game is very well optimized, I can even play it on my typewriter! Though, the problem is that I use an Intel typewriter. This means that I can't really play the game along with the other 80% of people who use Intel processors. Another thing I enjoyed about this game is that it provides its player base with a genuine challenge. I haven't been able to experience these for myself, but I have heard many tales of these treacherous trials being weaved in the technical-help section of the official discord server, while attempting to get a moderator to respond to question (Which is a challenge in of itself). While they are a welcome addition, I feel that some challenges are far too common, for example the 'AHELP MY GAME KEEPS CRASHIGN I HAVE TRIED TURNING GRAPHICS DOWN BUT IT DOESNT WORK HELP' challenge which I've seen popping up regularly. In order to combat the frequency of these 'challenges', the developers went for a week-long holiday upon the games launch. Sadly, I've had to deduct a point since I can't play the game for more than a minute. However, it does LOOK like a pretty good game, and that's more than enough for me. Expand

3.Feed players with limited daily/weekly/monthly activities that give resources so players don't starve, but never give them enough if they don't PAY.
4.Players who played for an enough long period will be very attached to the game as they've spend so many time keeping log into the game to finish those repetitive activities as a part-time job. They now are the Gacha slaves who will defend the game no matter what because they just do not want to admit the characters they rolled and the resources they spent actually does not worth too much.

This is typical Chinese mobile/web game routine. Chinese players notice this pattern since Genshin's 1st day of launching as they are already very familiar with this. That's why its scored so low in Chinese gaming communities. I worked in Chinese mobile game industry before and what I can tell you is they do not value fun gameplay so much, they always treat that as a hook to innocent players. Instead they believe the business model and monetization is the only valueable thing in game industry. A famous quotation in the industry ,given by Shi Yuzhu who made a top grossing mmorpg about 10 years ago says "Put 95% of your good art resource in to the first 5% of the game". For the past 15 years, this twisted value in game industry almost killed Chinese console/PC game industry, especially blocking the single player game studio from having any resource. This is why Black Myth: Wukong is given so much credit as it is really a brave act to even try to make a good single-player game that focus on gameplay in China.

I admit Genshin has a much longer single-player RPG gameplay period than those typical P2W or Gacha mobile games. However as I suspect the game is still applying this terrible routine and as long as their management team still believes in the value of business model and monetization instead of gameplay, there's absolutely no reason the resin system will be reworked. They will probably feed you more resin when you get raged with activities until less people talks about it.

Well I'm not a Mihoyo employee so you might consider all this just my personal guess. Actually if Mihoyo decide to change Genshin into something more like a single-player RPG or an MMORPG I would be happy as well. But again, taking consideration from what this company has done in the past, for Genshin CBT and other games, that chance is too low.

Haven't had fun with these type of games for years since Kingdom of Hearts (sorry no BOTW since I have no switch). The game's graphics is so beautiful yet it is not that heavy on the PC's GPU. The cash shop is too pricey for me, but the money that others spend allows me to play this fantastic game for free.

I'm currently AR lvl 38, almost 39. I've done most of the content that game offers, except abyssal dungeon (currently on floor 7-3). All story content ends at level 34 so you're left with 4 daily quests each day and 10 randomly spawned world events, if you've collected most of the games loot chests and other collectibles (geo fragments etc.)

I haven't used any money to this game and neither should you. The current way how the system works, you need constantly resin (this games energy). As a free to play player, you'll run out of resin within 15-30 minutes of gameplay (daily). It'll take 15 hours to recharge full energy. If you want to buy gems (premium currency) to get more resin, even with 100 euros purchase you'd run out of resin approx in span of a few hours if you're hardcore player.

The current monthly "subcription" that gives 90 primo gems daily feels borderline insulting if you think about the fact that it's only enough to refill your resin gauge by 60 points. Thats approx 1 elite boss, or 3 dungeons or 3 experience or money orbs that you can do / daily. You have to choose which content you're going to do, as energy isn't enough for all of it. All in all, that's about 15 minutes extra gameplay (daily).

I'll update my review score if things change for the better. This game would easily get 8/10 but as it currently stands I give it 4/10. I'd love to give some money to the developers to support otherwise fun and well crafted game, but the way they are currently handling games energy system it feels very predatory and unfair.

I don't know why I strongly dislike this game so much. The game is just for a certain type of person and I personally find it boring and repetitive. I'm not telling you to refrain from getting the game but I prefer some other rpg games.

Monetization in this game is atrocious. 200+ dollars (90 pulls) to guarantee a single RANDOM 5 star (rarest and strongest) character. And to max out the character you need to get the SAME EXACT character SIX TIMES. This is simply ridiculous even if you intend to spend money, and it is straight up impossible to do as a F2P player, as you dont get nearly enough currency for 90 pulls.

The game looks good, my highest praises to artists, and you very well may like it, but i highly suggest not spending money unless they change their pricing. This company do not deserve any support, this is straight up predatory.

The Anime style of this game really has a different feel to what I am normally used to, but it isn't hard to look pass that once you realize how enjoyable the game is. This game has a better designed world and NPCs than a lot of triple A title games. Everything feels so engaging and alive. I definitely feel like it would have been a game I would have paid for when I play sometimes.

A lot of bad reviews stems from those who want more for less, even though you can play this completely free. I ran out of content but so what, there's more updates coming and it's all free. It's a single player game, I don't expect to keep grinding after I finish all the content, I will just wait for more. Maybe I am just a casual and I am not interested in the endgame. It might get better or worse in future content, who knows but so far I really enjoyed it. My experience with it has been superb.

Don't skip this game because there's a paywall.. because you can ignore it. It's just what the monetization the devs decided to go with unfortunately. I honestly would have just paid for this game.

Do consider before you start playing if you have an addiction problem or is a perfectionist who wants 100% because this game will eat your wallet. I spent a little to support the devs but I know I won't get suckered in.

Donate approximately 300$. Levelup my team (up to 40 lvl). But after all of this i can't beat a secret Qingce quest because of 3 30lvl mobs. WTF? It's truly unfair. This game has a good story, good fighting system, great sound. But that quest ruined all of this. And I think that moment is only the first. My ass is on fire.

Pretty solid for a F2P game, but not perfect. The resin system can be improved. The rate at which it recharges is acceptable, but the 120 cap is terrible. Its like you have to wait for 12 hours to fully recharge your resin, and you can spend all your 120 resin in like 15 mins just doing few domains, and you have to wait again. Also, why only support 60fps? Honkai impact 3, a game from the same developer supports up to 120FPS, so its weird why MiHoyo just didnt implement 120FPS support for this game as well.

The best thing about GI is the rewarding exploration and the characters.

Rather than a typical online game, Genshin Impact resembles a traditional single-player jRPG with a real-time combat. For a free-to-play title it is very impressive, but turns out to be pretty derivative and quickly slumps into monotony. [13/2020, p.52]

Oh, the joy of exploring this beautiful world. Oh, the clever combat, the great voice acting, the compelling story. This is one of the best RPGs of the year. And it’s almost beyond comprehension that you can get it for free.

Overall, in spite of things that should bring Genshin Impact down, the game is so much fun to play that the negatives are ultimately minor gripes. [...] The gameplay is smooth and simplistic, and it works great on all platforms - though I’m still not sure why the PlayStation version can’t be linked to a Mihoyo account so I could play on my phone when I’m not at home (PS Vita version please??) but it’s a small gripe to an otherwise terrific game.
