    Don't let the "fanboys" ruin the gaming industry any further.

    The first 10 hours are fun with nice progression, but after, you just find it is a typical gacha mobile game that asks for cash everywhere with no actual end-of-game content and boring world exploration. The worst is that Genshin is a hollow and empty game pretending to be something great. -Gatcha system is bad to a degree I    Don't let the "fanboys" ruin the gaming industry any further.

    The first 10 hours are fun with nice progression, but after, you just find it is a typical gacha mobile game that asks for cash everywhere with no actual end-of-game content and boring world exploration. The worst is that Genshin is a hollow and empty game pretending to be something great.
    -Gatcha system is bad to a degree I have never seen in online games. The cash required for 1 pull is super expensive, and the 5-star grantee at 100 pulls still only has 50% for the desinatied character in the pool - a greedy and disgusting mechanic to further lower your chances and increase the player game time or top-ups. For perspective, Korean MMOs require heavy grinding, but you can pay a much smaller amount to get your desired item guaranteed; Genshin? A black hole and a lottery machine - if you are lucky, just calculate the probability of your 5 stars and use that luck to buy the lottery and you are already multi-millionaires.
    -No point and meaning to exploring worldwide unless you want to pick up trash daily.
    -Don't even want to mention how unfinished and polished the combat system is.
    -Some good art designs, but you can sense the map design copied many elements from other older MMOs.
    -Good music (the only reason I gave 2 scores)
    -Company with a huge amount of marketing instead of spending money to make a good game, and Mihayo is good at picking their target audience - mostly people who never played many great games in life. This casing the fanboys are ruining the entire gaming industry these days, and I won't support such companies.
    -Some story is good, but the progression is tedious. As a fairly experienced gamer, the overall feeling is like even some cartoon I watched in childhood is even more mature than the world Genshin impact created in the game.    … Expand

This game really captivates you for the first hours with countless activities and unlocks that let you experience the game in many ways.     Genshin Impact is a game that honestly runs and plays far better than most free games have the right to do so. While it does borrow many aspects from Breath Of The Wild, it uses them as a base to further build upon and in my opinion, really comes into its own game after the first tutorial prologue by implementing features such as elemental synergies, special ability combos, weapon and character levelling and more.

    Being a F2P game, it has to make its monetization somehow and the way Genshin has approached it is through the gacha system.

    For those that don't know, Gacha is a form of entertainment popular in Japan where coins are inserted into a dispenser to get a toy capsule out of it, the catch being you have no idea what you will get on the other side. Genshin has implemented this feature through the "Wish" system where new characters and weaponry can be summoned using either in-game currency or premium currency...or a combination of the two.

    While this may put off a lot of people (and I don't blame them, coming from a background of gacha addiction) Genshin has 4 key distinct features I would like to turn your attention towards

    1. Genshin provides you with a base set of characters for free and they are more than capable of carrying you through the game on their own. No Story related content exists which is inaccessible to your party as long as you have these base characters. They may be relatively low tier characters overall, but the game doesn't halt your progression unless you pull a lucky draw on the gacha, unlike a certain game I could Star Wars Battlefront 2...I mean mention.

    2. While I did mention the characters you are given for free are low tier, Genshin is a single-player (with co-op) game with NO PvP as of the writing of this review. Meaning if you and your friend rolled the gacha and he lucked out with a 5 star and you didn't, you are not in a statistically weaker position. So while the gacha characters are better and more appealing, they are not mandatory to complete the game and you can play the game from start to finish with the characters provided to you, their tier list placement be damned.

    3. Genshin Impact has a pity system where if you don't get a 5 star within your first 89 rolls, your 90th one is guaranteed to be a 5-star (and if the 5 star happens to be a weapon instead of a sought after 5-star character, then your 180th roll will be guaranteed to be a 5-star character). As a result it is heavily, HEAVILY advised to save up your Primogems and Intertwined Fate (your summoning materials) for a banner that has a character you covet so not only can you have a greater chance of rolling them, but you can take advantage of the pity system as well. Genshin also has 4-star characters available in the shop on a monthly rotating basis, so if you are feeling particularly unlucky today and the shop has a character you want (and you have the resources to buy them), they're as good as yours, no gacha needed (as far as I know, this doesn't extend to the 5-star characters)

    4. Genshin has a unique rotating summoning banner where pulling a 10 roll guarantees you a 4 star or higher character (not a weapon, character), so you never feel cheated out of getting at least a character for your efforts

    So in conclusion, Genshin is a fast, fun and most importantly FREE ARPG with a lot to offer for its price of $0. I hope this becomes the new hallmark for free games, as Mihoyo has shown that if you put the effort into your game, the players will naturally flock to your game (17 million downloads as of this review, good job Mihoyo!). It's worth giving it a try at the very least because you can't beat the price tag of zero dollars

    It is a good pastime. I like to do my dailies commissions and farm some artifacts while hearing an podcast since the game doesn't really need the full awareness of the player but I really only play because of the rewards (primogens), it isn't funny at all to farm the same set for de 908th or to do the same stupid commission to protect a Ballon for the 67th time.

    The story of the game is just a miss or hit, some are good, others are not. One thing annoying is the amount of unnecessary dialogues this game has that doesn't add anything to the stories or the event and it is just an annoying thing between you and 60 free primogens that 80% of the time is just worth it 1/3 of a wish that you get a literally useless 3* weapon.

    Many people complain about the gatcha system and I agree it sucks sometimes. I had my bad moments but also has lucky moments. I like this system simply because I am 100% F2P and honestly I have all characters that I need to beat any challenge in this game and if I managed to get this without paying 1 cent, at least for me, this system worked just fine so I don't have any reason to complain. I think people have to know, they can't have all characters in the game. They need 2 top-tier DPS and pull for good supports only.

    The combat system is cool, many people say they don't like the Spiral Abyss, I like it. I pretty much always get 36* on every abyss reset, not because 50 primogens are a great reward (they are trash) but because I like the challenge that only floor 12 (and sometimes floor 11) bring to the game. I always wanted more content like Spiral Abyss or new floors but Mihoyo never brought it. It is a shame, so I can only play Spiral Abyss every 2 weeks.

    The exploration of this game is one of my favorite parts. I like to solve puzzles and explore the world and the maps of this game is really beautiful. It is a shame that the content ends so fast.

    The graphics of this game are ok, the models of the characters are kinda bad, they lack models of musculus type of characters. Actually, they pretty much only have 3 models of characters, child characters, teen characters and adult characters. All are slim.    … Expand

    Pretty amazing game impressively huge and ever expanding.

    The world design and music are top notch, and let me just say that when it comes to music in my opinion no game has as many impressive tracks. Even after releasing 2 regions this world design and music quality has not gone down. Just don’t think of the game as a character collector gatcha chore fest and you’ll have fun. All the local problems that we solve do not affect our goal in any way.

    The community of this game also deserves a special mention. This is a disgusting, toxic and stupid community. They point blank do not see the obvious shortcomings of the game (there is no CD reset on restart, etc.). They try to give advice without understanding the specifics. The game has artifacts that can be obtained, but each player will have a unique one in terms of performance. No two artifacts are exactly the same. This fact is simply ignored by these advisers.

    If you don't spend money you will get disapointed.

    They still haven't fixed Monas C1 after 2 years. The devs don't care about bugs unless they reduce their profit. Just shows how much the devs don't care about the game or the community.

    It's a good Gatcha Game to play :
    +Interesting mecanics and characters gameplay
    +Lot of Boss, chests and puzzles
    +All 4 stars and 5 can be play and find a usefull on teams compositions

    But It's not perfect :
    -Gatcha with a 50% lost the pitty, the worst part for F2P players
    -Multiplayer are useless and not very usefull (only for help news players or rush boss)

    It's a great game, I liked the story, the music, the characters, etc. But in my opinion it gets too difficult and you have to spend *so much time* to even have a chance at beating the bosses. I've been stuck on one quest for almost a year now. And don't even get me started on upgrading characters- the grind is endless. 4 points for the first quest- after that it just goes downhill. TheIt's a great game, I liked the story, the music, the characters, etc. But in my opinion it gets too difficult and you have to spend *so much time* to even have a chance at beating the bosses. I've been stuck on one quest for almost a year now. And don't even get me started on upgrading characters- the grind is endless. 4 points for the first quest- after that it just goes downhill. The game would be so much better if there was the ability to cancel quests. I'm so sick of not being able to co-op.… Expand

You don't have to spend a single dollar, just enjoy the show.

    Only a few would admit spending money or an absurdly amount of time on this game, slogging through menial tasks and one bland fetch quest after the other, to farm pitiful amounts of premium currency for another "free" pull at the slot machine.

    Yes, running from point A to B and back again might get very boring but, you see: "You get 4 free summons for it, too. That is, if you do the 5 extra missions after. It’s a pretty great trade."

    So, chop chop, don't be lazy. Ok, "sometimes" players feel bad after they got nothing worthwhile, pull after pull after pull, hours upon hours, dollars upon dollars, down the drain. "But you get so much content for free, you see?!" Yes, it's hard to admit to have wasted your time or money because of all the sunk cost fallacies. Yet, wasting your time seems even worse. Many people seem to forget that their time on this planet is infinitely more valuable than the money they did or did not spend.

    But let's forget about gambling and talk about player retention... er, the "Epic Open World Gameplay Experience ".

    Genshin Impact features a boss fight against an "Oceanid". It talks to you very sagely: "With no place to flow, even the purest of water will begin to envy the forms of living things who can roam about freely. It is this 'water' that will be used to drown you and the pollution ..." etc. etc.

    This boss will drop 2 "Cleansing Heart" items which are required to upgrade a character attuned to the water element. Like many items in this game, this challenge is the only source of that upgrade material in the entire game. To upgrade one single character, you need 46 of these "Cleansing Hearts". Imagine the fun farming this boss, hearing the same lines repeatedly... "With no place to flow, even the purest of water..."

    So, you got another character attuned to the water element? Have fun doing it all over again. And that’s just the beginning: For 1 character, you need to farm 6 different materials including "gold" and experience tomes. To upgrade their talents, you need another 2 different materials plus more gold. For their weapons, you need another 3 different materials plus more gold. Now multiple the time needed to grind for all these resources for every single character you want to level up. And this is still just the tip of the iceberg. See all the other reviews mentioning the endless "soul-crushing grind" to get specific artifact sets with viable stats. It’s layers upon layers of grind.

    From a children's novel (The Phantom Tollbooth) which seems quite relevant today:
    "'Well, I wish I knew how long it was going to take,' Milo wondered. (...) Milo took out the shiny pencil from his pocket and quickly calculated that, at the rate they were working, it would take each of them eight hundred and thirty-seven years to finish.
    'Pardon me,' he said, tugging at the man's sleeve and holding the sheet of figures up for him to see, 'but it's going to take eight hundred and thirty-seven years to do these jobs.'
    'Is that so?' replied the man, without even turning around. 'Well, you'd better get on with it then.'
    'But it hardly seems worthwhile,' said Milo softly.
    'WORTHWHILE!" the man roared indignantly.

Other than that, there is still one major issue I have with the game. It's the lack of actual content. When people who play the game regularly run of content to play, and ask miHoYo to add more things to do, they interpret that as rereleasing the same stuff almost every single time. Sure, it technically adds something to do, but that's not what people want. This also poses a problem for the people who just started playing and are overwhelmed by the amount of content they have to go through. This makes the game feel like a chore more than an enjoyable past time. The art style and a lot of the character designs are pretty good, and so is the combat.     I have two AR60 accounts and I still hate this game. It's very expensive to get all the content in the game. The game has pitiful F2P rewards. The devs never rework the kits of garbage characters. The censorship is getting worse and worse. We'll never see character skins like the ones they released in 2020 again. I can't wait for a real competitor to come out that's not run by prudes.

    6. Adding the Blazing Heat status without adding ways to counter it (i.e. Goulash counters Sheer Cold);

    7. Characters protected by shields receive damage from Smoldering Flames inside the Taishan Mansion talent level-up material domain;

    8. Characters protected by shields still receive damage when attacked while switching characters;

    9. Ruin Cruisers (triangle shaped automatons) can lock-on & unleash their AoE attack to the player even when they have no/zero visual of the character;

    10. In Dragonspine, Cryo Cicin Mages are generating new Cryo shield right after breaking previous Cryo shield like they don't have any other moves;

    13. Characters with Alternate Sprint get stuck in various things on the ground.

    14. Bow-using characters get stuck (like Alternate Sprint characters) in various things on the ground while they are in Aimed Shot mode;

    15. Electrograna are blocking the Aimed Shot mode of bow-users;

No, I'm not installing 3rd party software to get around such a ridiculously amateurish oversight. Uninstalled in the first 10 minutes after forced to player on controller and the game froze up.

    The core gameplay is great, you can combine different elements and do combination attacks, use the environment against the enemies and have fun, but the grinding is ridiculous, and the only way to unlock new characters is by either buying them with real money or getting them through a "lootbox" mechanic.

    There isn't really an actual story, or rather... it's not very engaging and important, but there are indeed main quests, side quests and challenges but they barely differ.

    Multiplayer mode is also not working very well, only the host of the lobby can properly interact with the world.

    In the end it's merely a good game, it looks and plays very well but it gets boring after a while, and if you want a change of pace then you'll have to deal with gacha mechanics.

    Final Rating: "Good" ~ 7/10.    … Expand

Crappy energy system makes friends not want to play with you because they don't want to use up all their resin helping you with bosses or domains because they need to do their own and will have to pay to do more.     A few years ago i heard about Genshin Impact but at the first glance i wasn't interested in it because as far as i understood it was a Single Player MMO or something what i have found weird.
    Last week it got my attention again and following the quote "The taste comes with eating" i gave it a shot.

    The intro starts with a brother and sister who have mighty personalities but an enemy appeared. Now you can choose to be the brother or the sister. Depends on your decision you will be separated from your family and then the journey begins.

    In your journey a cute and adorable mystic girl named Paimon accompany you in order to find and save your family. In the meantime you meet many peoples and stories what give Genshin Impact a recognizable face.

    The World is quite huge and detailed. I saw two cities and especially the second city which has real asian style was very beautiful and invites you to stay there even longer. The Flora and Fauna is also well integrated into the world whereas the weather conditions have a negative impact on your health.

    I like the anime-style and the characters i just met are detailed and are irreplaceable characters

    The soundtrack is very cool and contains an asian-flair that creates a deepening and serious atmosphere in Genshin Impact. The composer really knows what he is doing. The music still is in my mind what confirms the right choice of the soundtrack.

    Right now i'm in the prologue so i can't tell too much concerning the story. What i can tell is that the family that you try to save could become your enemy. The other thing is that the enemy who appeared in the intro seems to have a personal interest in you but it is not clear what she is really up to. These elements cause question marks and that's why following the story line is motivating.

    You are in a Four-Man-Squad and you fight the battle with one person whereas you can switch easily to the other warrior. There is basic-attack, special-attack and a very special-attack but there seems to be no counter-attack. Every warrior has a different style and how to attack. It is right that you can develop your own character very very far while you can unlock certain talents. Unfortunately your character cannot learn more new attacks.
    In connection to this kind of Development and Battle-System the Gacha-System takes a huge and important place in Genshin Impact. There are many characters that you can get in the Gacha-System whereas you can another characters through certain story-lines. But i have to admit that the fighting style of the characters in the Gacha-System is more interesting and refined than the other ones you can get in the story itself. The Gacha-System offers three banners which includes 4- and 5-Stars characters. I noticed that mainly the 5-Stars characters can cause a very-special-attack with an animation while i love the animation-attacks.

    Well, now we come to an issue with what many Genshin-Warriors have a problem. In order to get these 5-Stars characters you have to spend for example about 150-200 € in one banner. You have to draw a 10x-Ticket (in Genshin Impact it is called: Prayer) about 9-10 times to get a 5-Stars Character whereas there is a high chance that you get 4-Stars Characters. We are lucky that there is a pity-system or else it would be even worse. The problem is that you can draw a character you already have. In such cases you can get an exchange. You also get other kind of coins which you can spend at the Tradesman.
    My point of view is that it is reasonable to get the necessary money so that you can finance Genshin-Impact, new projects like "Zenless Zone Zero", the company, the employees and even the cleaning ladies. Paying at maximum 50-60 € per month would be very fair but not 150-180 €. To be honest, i just checked if there is some sort of a subscription-pass like in other MMO and yes there is one. You can get a pass for about 10,99 € and you can get a subscription for 4,99 € where u can get the necessary coins day for day. This pass for about 10 € is available at Adventurer-Level 20.
    This seems to be fair but nevertheless the users are very frustrated of the Gacha-System anyway. So seeing it in a long term i cannot tell if the pass is the solution of the whole Gacha-Issue.

    It would be useful to create a subscription-pass with a price of 10 to maximum 50-60 € per month and depending how much you pay you can get more coins for buying the tickets. So it would be great that if you pay 50-60 €, you get more than 12000 crystal coins for drawing the 10xTickets. I think this kind of concept could lower the frustration-grade of the Genshin-Warrior.

    Genshin is a pretty good game. I’m not sure if it’s the first game to put a gacha in an open world rpg but it does both well in my opinion. I started the game close to launch, dropped it for a bit, and picked it back up as I saw new characters that interested me. Have been playing consistently for a few months since.

    I think the story and quests are decently executed. Depending on your tastes the dialog can be a little bland. But the combat is where it shines. Combining elements of different characters to form reactions that augment your play by either increasing the damage you do, or protecting you from damage with shields is a cornerstone of the gameplay. There are many viable team comps for exploration and abyss and if you manage to pull a lot of characters it can be fun to try different combinations.

    A few gripes I have are with the content outside the abyss, which while mihoyo does update the game often with new content, can either be bland, or temporary. I can understand not wanting too much large scale permanent content for now, as the game hints at a possibility of at least 7 major zones (one for each of the seven elements in the game, and of which we have 3 as of version 2.6). However it is a little disappointing and it is nice to see some temporary events make reruns, such as the theater mechanicus. The main sources of endgame content are the aforementioned spiral abyss and exploring the open world to 100%. For those of us who have yet to 36 star the abyss and finish exploration, there is still motivation to play, but I can understand why people get burned out of it.

    Before I end this review I have to address the gacha. For the most part, I think the character gacha is mostly fair, as you can get a five star limited character guaranteed in less than 180 rolls. But obviously the problem is getting those rolls, right? Buying a welkin moon for 5 usd, which basically gets you 2700 primogems in 28 days, and the paid battle pass, combined with the star glitter and stardust you receive from wishing, can get you a decent amount of wishes, but depending on the events available it may or may not net you enough to guarantee the character you want. So I get peoples frustration. At the end of the day, this is a gacha game, but most of the four star characters are perfectly serviceable, and it’s really only recommended to pull for a five star if you like their aesthetic and play style. Story events provide opportunities to try out every single character in the game. One issue though, is reruns aren’t guaranteed to happen for every character, but as mihoyo has only relatively recently been doing double banners, it opens up the possibility for more reruns in the future.

    All in all I think Genshin is a fun game. I think new players can get put off by the gacha and the fact that you can’t fully enjoy some content without a decent amount of investment, and I do hope Hoyoverse addresses the new player experience. But I have put countless hours into it and enjoy it for the most part. Also would be nice if they fix some of the artifact rng, and/or put in reforge options. If they address those concerns I’d rate this game higher.    … Expand

    - Character and gameplay mechanics regularly don't work (for example Sucrose's first normal attack often fails to trigger and EVERY movement and camera system is half-programmed).
    - Artifact mechanics are 80% unspecified and very inconsistent. - Hitboxes and enemy attack tracking are often unfair    This game gets a -3/10 from me, because it's gameplay is maliciously designed to be bad.

    - Artifact and character RNG is so bad even playing for a whole year every day won't give you enough resources for the hard and reasonable content to play to feel moderately easy.
    - The devs regularly patch the game, but if you read the patch notes, they never fix gameplay/quality of life things that have been broken from the start, they pretty much only fix compatibility issues for phones so that more and more new players can come to the game, spend their money, and then leave.
    - It's disguised as a game where you can collect characters and builds... But you don't collect most of them, you don't get to pick which characters, and you don't get to level up and play most of them.

    They basically got like 3 inexperienced programmers, 3 random artists, and made a game that wastes massive amounts of money and time from players. It may or may not be an extreme example of how much money can systematically force most products to have bad quality.    … Expand

    I can only say that the gameplay is good at best, the open world is decent and the soundtrack is great but the gacha system, the devs giving middle fingers to the community , the repetitive gameplay, the story, the automated animation and and the grinding really make the game bad.     Overall, in spite of things that should bring Genshin Impact down, the game is so much fun to play that the negatives are ultimately minor gripes. [...] The gameplay is smooth and simplistic, and it works great on all platforms - though I’m still not sure why the PlayStation version can’t be linked to a Mihoyo account so I could play on my phone when I’m not at home (PS Vita version please??) but it’s a small gripe to an otherwise terrific game.
