Genesis Noir’s gorgeous graphics may be mostly in black and white, but its cosmic journey through Earth’s past is anything but, though at times it’s a little too convoluted to be as ingenious as it could have been.

Genesis Noir is a very curious game, and mostly in a good way. The cosmic nature of its narrative is tied down interestingly in its humanized elements and the animation and music do a good job of giving every moment life and charm, even if it can sometimes get confusing. It’s not a long game, and some of its stretches are a bit too simplistic for their own good, but Genesis Noir also features a lot of creativity in prominent portions of its puzzles and progression. If you enjoy a good point-and-click adventure and don’t mind a game that just wants a moment to share its bombastic narrative of cosmic creation and love, Genesis Noir might very well be narrative worth your time and interest.

Genesis Noir will drag you in a very (VERY) strange love adventure, with hypnotic aesthetic and cozy smooth jazz soundtrack.

Genesis Noir is a simple puzzler with point-and-click elements that are stripped back to reveal an engaging and beautiful story. It may be too easy and rather linear, but it's still a well presented game that'll keep you engaged throughout.

Story driven narrative experience with gorgeous and astonishing visuals about a metaphoric cosmic love story that causes the big bang. Sadly, it's clunky and sometimes obtuse gameplay doesn't match it superb presentation. A fresh and original game not suitable for everyone.

Slices of Genesis Noir are much better than others, and certain interactive interludes are inarguably sublime. Still, fussing with a mouse cursor until something happens is hardly compelling as gameplay, nor is holding down a key to walk slowly and endlessly in one direction until interrupted with a short cinematic. It's the type of game where even a slight irritation risks breaking its spell, making them louder than its superb soundtrack. As a result, it's unlikely that Genesis Noir will seat comfortably with any and all gamers who catch its orbit, and it begs a surprising amount of patience for its overall brevity, but it’s also definitely one of a kind.

Genesis Noir stands out as an unique experience in the current landscape. There’s no argument there. However, for all of its gorgeous art, daring concepts and oblique storytelling, the gameplay and interaction required to succeed in this medium ends up failing to connect and doesn’t engage with the player in ways that feel significant.

This cosmic point-and-click looks and feels like no other game out there. [Eurogamer Recommended]
  2. The constant, unexpected transitions between visual schemes, the wild leaps in subject matter, and the sudden appearance of majestic stags, would all have slam-dunked me into the bin of my own subconscious like I’d stuck every Boards Of Canada album on simultaneously. Never let it be said I don’t appreciate the highbrow.

There’s handful of dazzling set pieces in the final third of Genesis Noir, none less so than the crescendo itself. I don’t think it's a spoiler to describe this as a dance across the cosmos, or that color does eventually explode into the game. Like the earlier duet, it offers another opportunity to wild out, to simply throw the cursor across the screen and see what emerges. It gets close to the loose-limbed and improvisatory nature of jazz—an opportunity to revel in the game’s singular and beautiful kind of cacophony. While an undeniable audio-visual marvel, the moment also transcends spectacle, hinting towards something profound about the act of creation, be that cosmic or indeed personal.

Pretty verging on beautiful, but cold, hollow, and ultimately dull experience. No single gameplay element can be said to work well. ThePretty verging on beautiful, but cold, hollow, and ultimately dull experience. No single gameplay element can be said to work well. The characters and plot are both incredibly thin (nobody does almost anything, almost nothing happens) and are told in wild abstractions such that it's hard to even say with certainty that anybody really interacted with anybody else in the entire game. Also, the game's sense of space and movement is absolutely **** Again, the visuals are nice, but not nearly nice enough to compensate for the extremely unrewarding, scattered gameplay. If this were a 15-minute (max) animated short, it might have worked to a degree. As it is, it's just a confused string of minigames. Full Review »

Not the best gameplay ever and a little buggy but it offers a nice experience, worth a try.
