A very solid rogue-like RPG-lite packed full of procedurally generated content. It looks great, and the developers are still adding new content and features. The game also has several game modes, from campaigns to extended dungeon dives and lets you unlock new game content (loot, encounters, classes and cosmetics) as you play through by finding Lore books.

It can be punishingly hard though, and you are totally at the whim of RNGesus. If you want to fully enjoy the game, even if you are a veteran RPGer, I'd still recommend starting on Apprentice difficulty to fully enjoy your initial experience.

I bought it on sale for a couple bucks. 54 hours of fun with friends. Totally worth it.

The game also lacks any strategy, tactics, or thinking. You can't move your characters, the only thing you can do is press their attack button and see them attack. That's it. Rinse and repeat. The Good:

    - This game is like playing a really smooth, well-designed board game.
    - It has 3 main modes: an overland mode where you move across and discover an isometric map, JRPG-style battles, and linear dungeon crawls. The 3 modes nicely dovetail into each other, leading to interesting strategic choices and a surprisingly deep game in terms of mechanics, tactics, and strategy.
    - The game's difficulty is really well-balanced. Along with the fact that save-scumming is very difficult (you can go back at most 1 turn), it can make the game a real nail-biter to play! I found myself frequently yelling obscenities at the monsters because it was so intense!
    - The game's random mechanic (based on "slots" or 1d100 die rolls, basically) is very subtle, and it took me many hours of game play to fully realize its implications.

    The Bad:
    - if you're looking for fun story or whatnot, this game doesn't have anything but the most simplistic plot. This isn't a bad thing if you know to expect that, but obviously the game would be even better with an engaging story.
    - The character special abilities and the combat status effects are very poorly explained in the in-game documentation, and I had to refer to the Wiki a lot.

    The Ugly:
    - The character classes are really weird and it can take a while to grasp how to build items for them.
    - There's a Hobo class! ... !!!!

This game is really a seriously under-appreciated game that you can play again and again! In a age where roguelikes and roguelites pop up fairly regularly this one was clearly a labor of love by the devs!

Probably the best hidden gem I discovered thank to Epic Games giveaway.
Coop game D&D like turn based rpg, for some chill time with friends or randoms.
Right soundtrack and squared game art make you sit down and relax at least on lower difficulty. The game, however can give a true challenge with harder difficulties. Super fast turns and the possibility to save each round (but not cheat

Super fast turns and the possibility to save each round (but not cheat save to avoid deaths ;) ) perfect for 3 friends. You can unlock new character within few hrs so the game can be actually quite long considering all the campaigns I would say at least 50 hrs with a lot of re playability as maps are procedurally generated (but campaigns quest are not) .
Im am genuinely surprised, I paid for so many worse games. It surely needs more attention!

    VOTO: 8/10

Basically just a glorified coin-toss. No interactivity besides pressing buttons to roll chances, and for a game claiming it has strategy, the hardest choice you'll make all runs down to "Do I have enough HP or not?".

3/10 cause the art style and presentation is neat.

A good roguelike to play with friends. Good game design and interesting mechanics taken from the best RPGs. The randomness factor surprises and at the same time upsets, it is ABSOLUTELY EVERYWHERE here. In addition to all of the above, there is a fairly high level of difficulty. So you need to have good luck and thinking to complete the game 100%. My rating is 6/10.

I’m highly impressed with Ironoak Games’ debut. If you’re ready for a long and painful (the difficulty level is so high!) but immensely satisfying wander across colorful fantasy realms, do not delay and buy this wonderful roguelike. [07/2018, p.48]

For The King is a very creative take on the Boardgame and RPG genres with a great focus on multiplayer. The single player mode is more an afterthought than anything else, depriving For The King of much of its allure.
