I absolutely loved all of the sidequests in this expansion. There was so much to explore in each and every area. I am amazed at how they got it all done in 2 years.

Like I remember almost being annoyed at how much it rained in Thavnair; and then I remembered the thavnairian rain we had to collect to upgrade stormblood resistance materials. Same with Sharlayan and finally finding out how all the scions got their tattoos. Aside from the main msq, the devs really did go back and make sure that all those sub plot points and lore were handled particularly well.

Just when you thought Shadowbringers was the best expansion, Endwalker tells us to hold it's beer and blasts the expections out of the park.

I was a bit skeptical at first especially since Shadow bringers was such a fantastic expansion, and didn't think they could outdo it. I can happily say that I was proven wrong, though the story is a bit wordy it is a fantastic expansion that the devs have put their hearts and soul into!

I have been playing this game steadily since its re-release in late 2013 (with healthy breaks that last months at a time sometimes). It has been a driving force in finding peace in my life, and helping to process a lot of things that went on with my mental health and my experience of maturation of my worldview in my 20s which were full of strife, mistakes, and questions of what the point is of living.
This expansion pack explores these themes and executes them in a story that hits me so hard that Its almost theraputic.

In 2019 during the previous expansion: Shadowbringers, I was finishing college at the end of my 20s, reeling from a breakup of an 8-year relationship, and finding the will to live for myself and to find the happiness that I WANTED to seek, and not what others expected me to. So the remainder of the last expansion I managed to find that answer for myself. It was exciting to then have my favorite game wrap up it's first major 11-year long story arc with similar themes to those that had been integral to my growth in my own life the past few years.

I know i'm talking about myself more than the game but this personal background info is the lens through which i'm seeing what makes this game so amazing. I can say that my long-time love for the Final Fantasy series couldn't shield me from criticisms I initially had of this game when it was rebooted, a time during which i only managed to play it for a few months. After coming back in 2016 to see the immense improvement of Heavensward, I was slowly engrossed further and came to the realization that this was probably my favorite game to come back to. So with each expansion since, I've fallen more and more in love with it. This expansion however is a MAJOR leap in quality in almost every aspect from the expansions that came before it.

I still find frustration in things like the "Raubahn EX" server issues during Stormblood, and now the "Login Que Ultimate" that we are dealing with now. But I know that running a game like this, that is finally getting recognition after years of fixing it diligently, listening to the players, and experiencing a WoW refugee migration, cannot be easy. This is especially true with the silicon and semiconductor shortage that definitely makes it difficult and unreasonably expensive to improve the servers like SE had initially planned to. If I put these issues aside... this game is a perfect sendoff for this story arc. Bringing back old names of those we've lost, giving us hope to move on to a brighter future, and always reminding us that Life is precious, and Sorrow and Joy are inextricably linked and must be experienced together in the same life, for there to be of any meaning in either... And the fact that this game reminds me of that, will forever cement this story as among the best stories in a game that I have ever experienced.

Now let's just hope they continue to make Savage and Ultimate raiding as fun and engaging as they have the past few expansions, and that the patches that are to follow over the next few years, can lay down the foundation for more beautiful stories to come.

An epic tale of Tolkeinesque proportions delivers a finale for the ages. 10 years on, Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker looks to all that came before to create a singularly satisfying ending - and a new beginning.

Fans of the game will need no convincing: Endwalker was made for them and, in many ways, by them. The one consistency across the timeline of FFXIV's growth has been improvement.

Again and again the game just keeps getting better, even when it didn't seem like it could. At any given point, Endwalker doesn't far surpass the peaks of Shadowbringers - though it certainly rivals them - so much as it smooths out the valleys between. Quest design; art design; and especially dungeon design and music quality are phenomenal across the expansion.

Yet, as ever, it is the game's story that makes Endwalker a masterpiece. What they've done is a thing of beauty, but what they did not do is perhaps even more so. It would have been easy for the writers to wrench players' hearts from their chests with a Song of Ice and Fire-style bloodbath. Instead, the game's themes deliver a message that so many of us desperately needed to hear: unyielding determination when facing impending doom; undying hope when facing deepest despair; and boundless love when facing our worst enemies.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is a triumph not just for its brilliant narrative and game design, but for its deep humanity.

The new dungeons and trials were incredibly satisfying to play both visually and gameplay wise and the areas are some of the best in the game.
My biggest complaint being a fair amount of reskins were used, although having more choices of color on certain gear is nice, it feels a bit over done and the still rather large lack of hair styles for Viera as well as helmets are mildly frustrating. But, I am just nitpicking at this point.

I struggled with Stormblood, not being very fond of medieval Asian culture, I remained somewhat stoic.
But Shadowbringer was a huge slap in the face with a deep questioning of myself and what I'm looking for in a mmorpg. This story, this immersion, these characters, everything was absolutely incredible, from start to finish, with each patch, this question: But how will he do to do as well or better than that in the next patch?
The next patch gave me the answer.
Shadowbriner has finished converting me completely to ff, no longer finding my account on wow, especially after all the concerns related to the culture of the company.
I was very scared of Endwalker. I was afraid of being disappointed after Shadowbringer, but it is not.
At the time of writing, I haven't finished the Endwalker story yet, but I already know that for me, what this extension makes me experience is exceptional.
I never thought I would experience a story and emotions like this in a mmorpg.

I have been playing this game for a couple of years now. Started around the start of Shadowbringers.
When i went into the game i had low expectations as i was very new to the final fantasy genre.

However, as i finished the base game "a realm reborn" and moved onto the first expansion "heavensward" i got instantly hooked in the story and narrative. When i then arrived to the second expansion "stormblood" i just got further and further invested in the world.

And when i reached Shadowbringers, which i thought was the studios "Magnum Opus", i was blown away by how amazing a story could be written.

This game is perfect for me. The gameplay is fun, the story is one of the best i have experienced so far, and i have made friends for life. The music is legendary.

Endwalker... was for me as a long time fan, and as a player who was gone through all the of story.. the perfect "ending" to the arc. The gameplay upgrades, the new abilities, the music, the new zones, the new enemies, the atmosphere, the story... Again.. The story and narrative... is godlike..

I have never cried so hard to a game before, partially because of the story and game itself... but because of the way it made me care and invest myself.. Which is something i havent experienced before. I was so sad when i was to do the last quest.. that i sad and just... stared at it. I really didnt want to finish it.. knowingly that i was going to complete a year long journey..

And even as i sit and cry as i write this.. The developers tell you through characters that is not the end. I have never had so much respect for a company before.

It is perfect for me, simply perfect.

There is a free trial of the game, for the base game and first expansion... basically months of content... completely free.

I would always recommend doing that first. As i know that some people cant handle paying a subscription for a game, which is completely fine..

But i would gladly pay my sub, for the rest of my life with a smile on my face. If it means that i will get as golden and perfect content like this expansion.

Never have I encountered a story that compels you to feel such a range of emotions so consistently. From elation to despair, from frustration to relief, this story has it all. Despite having finished the expansion three days ago, I can still scarcely believe that I went on such an incredible adventure. Before I played Endwalker, Shadowbringers was what I considered to be the pinnacle of not just the MMO experience, but gaming in general. No more can I hold fast to that view. Endwalker builds on what on the foundations and techniques used in previous expansions in such an ingenious way. Every cutscene invokes countless feelings within the player. The combat does not feel forced and is used in a way that makes narrative sense, none of that "We're on a journey to save the world but first, kill those 3 snakes barring our path".

I'll refrain from commenting on the balance of the jobs, as of the time of this review I've only played Summoner to 90 and Sage to 84. While I won't say anything too explicit, I will say that Job balance is rarely a concern for FFXIV. If any large discrepancies between jobs appear, I've no doubt that they will be addressed and patched quickly. FFXIV Is well known for its soundtracks composed by the now-legendary Masayoshi Soken and once more, they do not disappoint. With a mix of re-vamped songs used previously in the game, to breath-taking new zone music. There have been several times where I've just stopped what I was doing so that I could fully immerse myself in Soken's latest masterpieces.

While I've spoken of the many positives, as you'll learn from playing Endwalker, only through contrast can you divine true meaning. So as to stay faithful to that declaration, I shall endeavour to talk of the negatives. That said, there really is not much that comes to mind when I try to do so. In fact, the only negative I can think of at the moment is the fact that the queues, at least on my server, are constantly several thousand players large. Which in turn, means that If I want to play then I have to start getting ready 4/5 hours beforehand. I do not blame Square Enix for this queue issue as due to Covid-19, there is a Semiconductor shortage so acquiring adequate server space is simply not feasible, regardless of how much they try. These queues have been consistent since Endwalker's early access came out over a week ago. While this is a shame, especially to those that have less flexible schedules. It also goes to show just how much people are enjoying their time playing Endwalker.

If a non-FFXIV player gets to the end of this review then I'd strongly recommend them to play this game, I can promise you that it is a decision you will not regret. I know I do not need to make the same recommendation to any current FFXIV fans, especially if they've played Shadowbringers as I've no doubt they're either playing Endwalker or preparing to embark on this brilliant final chapter to a decade long story.

Login queues aside, this is probably the best story I have experienced in a game. The character work, soundtrack, and content are some of the best in the game and in any game I have played. I had serious doubts that they would be able to top Shadowbringers, but here we are. They did it.

Endwalker has been one heck of an experience so far. Picking up where Shadowbringers post-patches left off, it continues and concludes the story of Hydaelyn and Zodiark in a masterpiece.

Of course, everybody has been talking about the dreaded error 2002 that has been bothering the game since launch. Personally I haven't had many issues for this (and I log in about 4pm local time),

Of course, everybody has been talking about the dreaded error 2002 that has been bothering the game since launch. Personally I haven't had many issues for this (and I log in about 4pm local time), even though the queues have been long (on average around 6 hours on day 1, and still now around 3 hour queues to get in the game). I did get one kick out of the queue on release day, but haven't had any issues personally since then.

Once in the game however, it is one of the most stable online experiences on launch day I was able to ask for, with no further disconnects and I was able to get into the story. On another note, the way they have responded to this issue, given the current worldy circumstances, has been better than required, thanks to the development team's obvious love for the game and desire to see it succeed.

The story itself goes places that you can only expect from Square Enix, and they took some huge risky moves that paid off in the end. However, when it comes to risky all I would need to do is mention the original game and A Realm Reborn to state that SE are no stranger to risk. There are some slower parts, but with where the story goes I found myself appreciating those as once things get started you'll be strapped in for a while and glued to your seat as things all start falling into place.

The gameplay has definitely felt more responsive since Shadowbringers, and the dungeons have been some of the best added to the game so far. The trials are all exquisite showpieces as can be expected from Square, and new interesting mechanics were well executed and communicated.

The hardcore content is fully available yet, as raids come at a later date, but I will say that one Extreme trial is definitely more engaging and interesting than the other. I won't go into further details about this to avoid spoilers.

Overall, a wonderful but also emotional experience as we close the final chapter in the tale that has been being told for a decade. Good job SE, and look forward to seeing what you do next.

WoW. While this has some gameplay issues with the new added quest archetypes it in no way detracts from the final product. The story this time around is longer but it picks up oddly faster ( around lv 83 ) and it never slows down. The dungeons and Raids are all amazing and the music, oh the music. Soken is a genius. My first ever review, sorry for the bad grammar English is not my first language.

I will go through it by few categories: Gameplay, Story, Music, Performance, Etc

    Gameplay:
So far the newly release jobs seem very positive. Reaper was really fun to try out. Sage has such a great aesthetic but is very similar to scholar playstyle (without a pet).
Dungeons are very enjoyable and great. The trash pulls somehow don't feel as tedious and the bosses are so much fun to fight.
Trials are just perfect, it was amazing going through them.
Combat really is peak MMO, it is fast pace, engaging, and when u master the rotation it just feels great to play your jobs(and I have all jobs to 80, and they are all fun).
The jobs rework seem very positive, I really like the changes they make to the healers, Summoner and Monk.

    Story:
I don't know how to even start, it was a masterpiece for me. This is really the accumulation of ALL of the previous expansions. It links everything together and ties a beautiful bow. The characters' growth is insane. I have too many I love these cast moments. The plots can be confusing at times since they get REALLY DEEP but they touch me in ways I never thought they should. No spoiler here but the main theme is really about the meaning of keep going on living, why do we suffer, why do we need to suffer. If you skip all the previous expans though, you not going to love the story as much. This is a very character-heavy story, if you do not care for them, you will not love the story as much.
The ending forces me to take a break from the game for a bit because of the emotional turmoil (thx u so much SE).

    Music:
Soken is a god. The scores are perfect, they capture the feeling TOO WELL. Like the story already hit you hard like a wooden bat. But no soken have to jump in and turn this wooden bat into a diamond bat. I really REALLY thought he cannot top Shadowbringer OST but I was again wrong.

    Performance:
I play this game with the shader(which I really recommend). The game runs great and smooth, I have one disconnect when I start the first quest but that's about it. Playing shield healer feels amazing now since shield works better now(they figure out a workaround so shield doesn't get impact as much by server tick). If you are in-game, the game just runs amazingly, there are no bugs whatsoever when I play through it.

    New zones and texture:
The new zones are too beautiful for their own good. It is great to see how much they improve in art style. It does make me feel kinda sad seeing older zones since they are just.... well very old. I wish one day SE consider upgrading ff14 texture and just make the rest of the game look as good (texture-wise) like endwalker. And please can we make so I don't see pixels in characters models. I got used to it but sometimes when I see it, it bothers me to no end.

    Queue time(launch week):
I didn't play the game the first 5 days when it launch due to server issues. they literately suffering from success. There are just way too many people wanting to play the game and not enough server hardware to go around. I was able to pretty much avoid this completely by playing in the morning or really late at night. But I know people who have a 9-5 work schedule prob not going to have a lot of fun queueing for hours.

the queue time will get better as the weeks go on or when SE finally gets their server hardwares. Please stop blaming SE for not getting a better server, there is a semi-conductor shortage and MANY companies cannot get the parts they need. From what I know SE offer to pay lots of money to get these servers components and they still could not get them since there are none, to begin with.
I read so many entitled comments on how SE is so lazy with the server and the launch is terrible. I play through launch way, wayyyyy worst. and when you get in there are no issues at all.

    Errors:
The first week we have the legendary queue ultimate due to rampant errors kicking people out of the queue. it was...bad, this is quickly fixed in 2-3 days and now I never have the errors again. I read that some people still have these errors very frequently. For me, though I never encounter them again after the fix.

    Conclusion:
This expansion was just so perfect. Besides the queue time complaints, it was just a complete experience. Again this wasn't a standalone story, it was a beautiful conclusion of multiple expansions before it. If you already play through all of them, this is a MUST play.

While it isn't without fault; and its' foundations may even be a little too shaky or rocky given it's newest antagonist, the introduction of Dynamis (lampshaded or not aplenty without a proper name until now), and a few questions or new questions on prior elements like Time Travel; it performs incredibly well.

I will say that Mare Lamentorum's second-half, and Labyrinthos had weak points within them (primarily the Loporrits), and Garlemald took a smidge to set-up, but otherwise the plot proceeded with characteristic aplomb. Though a touch heavy-handed, the expansion begins immediately to build upon the core theme that will run through it's course.

    Is life meaningful?

In this regard; I found there to be pay off for years of playtime, acknowledgement of investiture, and a fitting conclusion to all that came prior.

Alphinaud and Alisaie obtain their own subplot and grow just a little bit more. Urianger too has a strong plot.

G'raha Tia and Estinien both have great moments as well with their own flavorful charms.

Thancred's arc resolved in Shadowbringers, but the threat ahead does eventually reach home with him.

And even Y'shtola, who is by far one of the least-developed of the Scions, claims some moments to her pile of treasures.

Krile astoundingly has a stake in the plot once more, and Tataru shines in an unforeseen way.

Zenos will be polarizing, but I believe we've seen at the very least; a taste of what his writing led toward. Simple, but fun.

And of the questions of Hydaelyn and Zodiark; well...

If you believe that the story has a clear-cut ending in which you embark to slay a God of Darkness, and then put down a tyrannical Goddess of Light...

You would be mistaken. It's an easy assumption and many would presume to be the natural path.

Endwalker endeavors to go beyond the anticipated and expected to provide something more succinct and more fulfilling.

Every encounter is akin to a Final Boss; and the stakes have never been higher. A hackneyed saying, true, but I believe FFXIV has reached an apex.

From here on, the threats will need to, on some level, deescalate. Even the hinted at 'Void Expansion', that looms in the distance; while grand in scope, shouldn't surpass the grandiose endeavor we've just wrought forth.

That said; the feeling of an ending does not eclipse the future. A rather hamfisted bit of dialogue, albeit touching, does ensure that the future of FFXIV is without a doubt, endless and boundless. That between the remaining worlds, and the untold tales within the Source, we've only scratched the surface. Let alone things like meddling in history's flow, or alternate timelines.

And so to that end; I am excited in a new way.

The ending was tremendous, and in a few fashions, I feel it was shackled. Shackles it wore without shame, but bound by what it built.

Now the game is free to tell a new story, a new plot, a new overarching grand tale that can head in any avenue it so wishes.

That said; the game's age will undoubtedly arise. And at this, the most delicate of junctures, a transition will transpire.

14 may be in it's golden age, and time will tell if this expansion will usher in the next with applause and more players than before, or if we begin to see the the end of this MMO's grand sprawling journey.

But what can be said, in the here and now...

The ride took many risks. And I believe for the majority, it will pay off.

For the road we've walked to get this far, was nothing but delightful. Worth it. And fulfilling nearly every step.

Hands down the best story of any game I've ever played. I did not think they could match the quality of Shadowbringers, but they actually somehow blew it away. The new jobs are super fun and the changes to current ones are excellent as well.

The gameplay feels way more fluid, can't tell if it's because of the gcd changes or not.
Graphics wise they really improved since Shadowlands, which can be felt on my fps.

Feels like the story of some characters just either got the cut, or the devs were not really sure what to do with them anymore. To mention one, Zenos. I love that character since the first time. They gave him like 10 minutes of screen time in the whole journey? He was supposed to be one of the mayor points of the expansion..

    So far if Heavensward story is 11/10 then Endwalker is 10/10;
Subject to change once we get to 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 etc. etc, hope no one forgot it's far from the end.

Starting 3 months ago, this has been an exceptional journey. After giving up MMOs two years ago, this has been a gift, being one of the best stories in gaming history and showing that even MMOs can have a wonderful story and incredible gameplay. Especially standing-out the Trial Fights, Job Mechanic and Phase-based Music!

The ups and downs, the high points and no low points, every thing is planned perfectly and gets me without fail. An emotion roller coaster and topped shadowbringers without doubt in terms of story. The ending part starting from hydaelyn, with Emet, Hythlodaeus and the scions coming next, hurts so deep it is incomparable by any other game i played before.
In terms of maps and scenery, Ultima Thule is amazing, literally "the end of the universe". The main city for players, old sharleyan is amazing too. Razadhan is good enough, but just doesnt catch me enough.
Music wise, Soken topped himself from Shadowbringers. Almost every single song hits me hard enough when the story goes on, while the ambience songs are perfectly fitted with the map itself.
And finally, in terms of gameplay, lots of tedious work had been deleted, and most jobs are cleaner then ever. Best FFXIV expansion ever up to date.

FFXIV from the beginning to the 'End'walker, is one continuous visual novel where the player portrays their role as the main protagonist of the story. Each expansion is essentially the next novel in the series, continuing not only an expansion themed story, but also an overarching metaplot that develops one step at a time. The game can be hard to get into originally, but if one has stuck with it, it is highly rewarding. Endwalker is the end of that overall metaplot, which is almost 10 years in the making. The visuals of the new zones are stunning, the new trial bosses are challenging and it is a very entertaining game in one's humble opinion. Expand

A true masterpiece of videogame story telling with engaging gameplay that builds on 10 years of experience.

While the engine may now be dated and the start of the game remains slow, FFXIV is not simply the MMO to play right now but possibly the RPG most worth playing too.

This is my best RPG game from my perspective. I have played this game over 8 years, without any doubt, this game is part of my life. although I'm very busy sometimes, I often log in this game and visit my house and my company. Yoshida could just end the MSQ in a more ordinary way, but he didn't

If you didn’t like FFXIV before now, Endwalker will do nothing to change your mind. But if you’re in, this emotional rollercoaster will be rolling towards a satisfying conclusion, that absolutely will not disappoint.

FFXIV is currently the best MMORPG available. The main reason is because it’s RPG first, MMO second. The story isn’t just an afterthought, but an integral part of the experience, and everything else revolves around the tale of the Warrior of Light. It’s logical, well-planned, and presented with great, voiced (or not) cut-scenes.
