Beautiful to look at and listen to; frustrating to play.

I really want to like this game - it has a very unique & appealing art direction, quirky macabre sense of humor, the inimitable Sir Patrick Stewart's superb voice talents, and the fun sound track. However, as a puzzle games, it falls short on many different ways. For instance, it's hard to tell how long of a shadow an object

I really want to like this game - it has a very unique & appealing art direction, quirky macabre sense of humor, the inimitable Sir Patrick Stewart's superb voice talents, and the fun sound track.

However, as a puzzle games, it falls short on many different ways. For instance, it's hard to tell how long of a shadow an object will cast. And does it vary over different levels? I think it does, but couldn't be sure. This is even more problematic because the environment will cast shadows too, but then it's even MORE uncertain how long the shadows will be at a glance. Also, items that can be picked up are too hard to tell apart from static objects, and it's uncertain which objects can be stacked on top of others and where. The flags are problematic as well, as it's hard to tell where its shadows will land, especially when they change positions. There are numerous problems like these that makes it hard to play.

It’s a quite nice puzzle game with a quirky character and visual design but also which doesn’t actually stand out in any meaningful way. [01/2020, p.74]

Felix the Reaper is a challenging puzzle game that is supposed to be a romantic comedy about life and death, but for some reason leaves the romance and some of the comedy aspects out of almost the entire game.

Felix the Reaper is a short, entertaining puzzle game that offers a great atmosphere, charming characters and a rich world. Unfortunately, the sometimes frustrating level design keeps it from becoming a hit.
